Miss Rose Fontanella, 91, of Erie Blvd., Canajoharie died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital after a short illness.
She was born on September 2, 1909 in Palatine Bridge, NY the daughter of Joseph and Maria DiBona Fontanella. She was a lifelong area resident and attended Canajoharie schools.
Rose worked at Beech-Nut Nutrition Corp. as a machine operator in strain foods for many years until her retirement.
She was a member of St. Peter & Pauls Roman Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Rosary Society of the church.
Survivors include her loving sister, Virginia Fontanella of Canajoharie; a niece, Peggy Bowmaker of Canajoharie, two nephews, Richard Nalli of Hialeah, FL, and William "Boomer" Nalli of Canajoharie; and several great nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:15 a.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be Celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Peter & Pauls Roman Catholic Church, Cliff St., Canajoharie with the Rev. William Gaffigan officiating. The burial will take place in the St. Peter & Pauls Cemetery, Canajoharie. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Rose's memory to the Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service or a charity of ones choice.
Louise J. Barker

Louise J. Barker, 66, of Cranes Hollow Road, Amsterdam, passed away Thursday morning at her home with her family at her side.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut on September 19, 1935 the daughter of Byron and Olive Berner Cutler, she moved to the Amsterdam area in the year 1949. Louise was employed as charge person for seven years at one of the Liberty residences, then became employed as a cook at Jesuit Retreat House in Auriesville, and most recently was employed as an associate at the Amsterdam Wal-Mart.
She was of the Protestant faith and a member of the Cranesville Reformed Church. Louise loved sewing , crocheting, and crafts.
Her loving family includes: two sons: Leslie Carpenter of Amsterdam, Ken Carpenter of Gloversville; three daughters: Wendy Carpenter, Ella Sweet and Debbie Coons all of Amsterdam; one sister Edna Cutler of Nassau, NY; ten grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
Services are at the convenience of the family with interment with her parents in Nassau. There are no calling hours, and contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam and to Amsterdam Community Cancer Center in care of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, to whom the family has entrusted the arrangements.
Donna Hardenburg

Donna D. Hardenburg, 60, of Pleasant View Drive, Town of Johnstown, died Friday evening at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 38 West Main St., Broadalbin.
Lloyd Woodbeck
August 23, 2001
Mr. Lloyd F. Woodbeck, 93, formerly of Enders Avenue, Central Bridge, died Thursday at the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, Amsterdam, where he had been a resident since January of 1999.
Mr. Woodbeck was born June 27, 1908 in Charlotteville, the son of Sanford and Mary Woodbeck. He had lived in Central Bridge since 1944, having previously resided in the Town of Esperance.
Mr. Woodbeck was a carpenter working for Loren Chase in Central Bridge many years ago, and later, worked for the Howard Burt Co. in Cobleskill, also as a carpenter. He then worked as a self-employed cabinet maker at his home in Central Bridge until retiring in 1994.
He was a member the the Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church in Central Bridge.
Mr. Woodbeck was married to Ethel Grace (Bivins) Woodbeck on Feb. 26, 1930, and until her death, Nov. 21, 1982.
Survivors include two daughters, Mabel Johnson of Rhinehholds, Pa. and Marion Wood of Perth; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Langan Funeral Home, 21 N. Main St., Central Bridge. Burial will follow in the Central Bridge Cemetery. Rev. Steffen A. Zehrfuhs, pastor of the Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, will officiate.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Langan Funeral Home, 21 N. Main St., Central Bridge.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 40 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, 12010 or to the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, c/o Amsterdam Memorial Hospital, 4988 St. Hwy. 30, Amsterdam, 12010.
Orlando Yacobucci

Mr. Orlando J. Yacobucci, 91, formerly of Phillips Avenue, Canajoharie, died Friday at St. Johnsville Nursing Home, where he had been a resident.
He was born on April 9, 1910 in Canajoharie, the son of Angelo and Vittoria Piroli Yacobucci. He was a lifelong Canajoharie resident and attended local schools.
During World War II, Mr. Yacobucci served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Yacobucci worked with his brother, Albert, at the Sonoco Gas Station in Canajoharie for 10 years after the war. He then purchased the gas station from his brother and was the owner-operator until his retirement in 1971.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 222, Canajoharie; the VFW Mohawk Valley Post 3275, Fort Plain and the Tony R. George Italian-American Post in Herkimer. Mr. Yacobucci was a member of the St. Peter and Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Canajoharie.
He was married to Antoinette Talarico on Sept. 8, 1934. She died on Dec. 12, 2000.
Survivors include a brother, Silvio "Sipe" Yacobucci of Canajoharie; two sisters, Ida Flomsbee and Noreen Jones, both of Canajoharie; nieces; nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Lenz and Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at the St. Peter and Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Cliff Street, Canajoharie, with the Rev. Nellie Slappy

Nellie Slappy, 87, of Sarasota, Fla., passed away on Friday.
She was born on April 30, 1914 in Amsterdam and moved to Sarasota 33 years ago from Amsterdam.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Siesta Key, Fla.
Survivors include a brother, Anthony Novak of Amsterdam; two grandchildren, Lisa A. Pelotte of Sarasota and Michael Weinstein of Breckenridge, Colo.; three great-grandchildren, Kristopher Pelotte, Lindsay Pelotte and Blake Weinstein.
Services and entombment will be held in Sarasota, Fla.
If so desired, memorial donations may be made to St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 5394 Midnight Pass Road, Sarasota, Fla., 34242.
Stanley Michalowski

Stanley Michalowski, 76, of Academy Street, Amsterdam, passed away Monday evening at Mount Loretto Nursing Home where he had been a resident since 1997.
Arrangements, under the direction of Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, are incomplete.
Eva Mount

Ms. Eva R. Mount, 67, of Francis Street, Gloversville, died Saturday at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after a short illness.
Born in Fultonville on July 30, 1934, she was the daughter of Donald W. and Mildred Cook Mount. She was a graduate of Fultonville High School and in later years continued her education at Fulton-Montgomery Community College. Ms. Mount lived in Fultonville until 1969 when she moved to Johnstown and later, Gloversville.
She was employed by the former Johnstown Knit Co. for a number of years. In her early years, she was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and also was affiliated with forming the Fultonville Drum Corp. She also enjoyed crocheting.
Ms. Mount was a former member of the Fonda-Fultonville United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Aime (Vaughn) Barnett and her son-in-law, William Barnett Jr. of Gloversville; a granddaughter, Brittney Hofmann; her sisters and brothers, Betty Craver of Gloversville, Marilyn Anderson of Fultonville, Richard Mount of Berkley, MA, Robert Mount of Sprakers and Arthur Mount of Fonda. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Ms. Mount was also a loving foster grandmother to many children of close friends.
She was predeceased by a brother, Irving Mount of Canajoharie.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville. Burial of cremains will take place in Maple Avenue Cemetery at a later date.
Family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Barbara M. Gallagher

Barbara Killip Gallagher, 82, formerly of Arnold Avenue, died Thursday noon at the Hospice House in Concord, N.H. She had moved to be near her daughter, Sandra, in 1999, and had resided at the Birches of Concord. Her death was the result of complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Born in London, England on November 14, 1918, a daughter of Douglas Graham and Elsie Anderson Killip, she emigrated to the United States at the age of five. She lived in Long Island and attended finishing school in New York City and was also a Barbizon model there.
Mrs. Gallagher came to Amsterdam in 1950. A homemaker, she was active in civic affairs. She was a den mother, Girl Scout leader, life member of the PTA, and past president of the Arnold Avenue School PTA. She served as a Red Cross Gray Lady, was a member of the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Automobilists of upper Hudson Valley, Automobile Club of America. An accomplished skater, she was a former president of the Earl VanHorne Dance Club of Mineola, Roller Skating Club of New York and Rye, a national judge and past member of the Women's Sports Committee of the A.A.U.; the U.S. Figure Skating Association and Roller Skating Association. In 1947, she was the World, US and New York State Roller Skating Champion and received bronze, silver and gold medals.
Barbara loved her family and was active in St. Ann's Episcopal Church, serving as a Sunday School Teacher and a member of its altar guild. She had also served on the diocesean altar guild.
Her beloved husband, Harvey P. Gallagher, whom she married April 8, 1945, died May 14, 1985.
She is survived by her daughters: Sandra and her husband Tim Kolojay of Hopkinton, NH and Catherine S. McClellan of Marshfield, Mass., her son: William Harvey and his wife Patti Gallagher of Ohio; eight grandchildren: David, Shannon and Julie Kolojay, Cathy, Christine, Peggy and Michael McClellan, and Jeffrey S. Gallagher. Barbara was predeceased by her siblings: Sidney Anderson and Joan Slevin. Nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews also survive.
The Order For The Burial Of The Dead was read Monday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann's Episcopal Church, Division St., the Rev. Christopher Smith, rector, officiating. Interment was in Green Hill Cemetery. Arrangements were by Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.
Contributions may be made to either Hospice House, Pleasent St., Concord, Mass, or the Foundation of Amsterdam Memorial Hospital., Rt 30N, Amsterdam.
Neil J. Peacock

Kevin J. Sarullo
August 31, 2001
Kevin J. Sarullo, 21, of Union Street, Fultonville, died Friday as a result of a motorcycle accident.
He was born March 26, 1980 in Amsterdam, the son of Joseph and Martha Feldmann Sarullo. He was a lifelong area resident and attended Fonda-Fultonville High School.
Kevin was currently working as a machine operator for Capital Vial in Fultonville.
Survivors include his loving parents, Joseph W. Sarullo Sr. and Martha Feldmann Sarullo of Fort Plain; his brother, Joseph W. Sarullo Jr. of Johnstown; and sister, Amanda M. Sarullo of Fort Plain; and his companion, Annamarie Baldwin of Fultonville. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in Freysbush Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Lottie Dunn

Lottie Sowizdrzal Dunn, 88, of Largo, Florida, died Friday, August 30, 2001, in Pinellas Park, Florida.
Born in Amsterdam, she moved to Florida in 1983 from Albany where she retired as a cashier at State University.
She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Clearwater, FL.
Surviving family includes her son, Michael J. Dunn, Palm Harbor, Florida; brothers Edward Sowizdrzal, Plant City, Florida and John Sowizdrzal, Fort Plain; sisters, Virginia Marcella and Josephine Harris, both in Largo, Florida; grandchildren, Michael V. and Maria E. Dunn.
A memorial mass will be celebrated September 10, 2001 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
The family prefers, if you wish, contributions to the church Memorial Fund, 1955 South Belcher Road, Clearwater, FL 33764 in memory of Mrs. Dunn.
Arrangements are by Curlew Hills Funeral Home, a Golden Rule funeral home, Palm Harbor, Florida (727-789-2000).

Elizabeth Vink Schaffer, an Amsterdam native, died Sunday at St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady. Mrs. Schaffer, of Austin Texas, was 80. Private burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery.
Samuel H. Fox
September 4, 2001
Samuel H. Fox, 87, of Van Dyke Avenue, Amsterdam, died Tuesday morning at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born in Providence, RI, June 21, 1914, he was the son of Maurice and Bernice Hersch Fox. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Bryant College in Providence.
During World War II, he served in combat on the USS Hayter (DE 212) and had four years active duty with the Naval Reserves.
Following the war, he moved to Amsterdam and was president and former owner of Holzheimer & Shaul clothing store.
His numerous memberships include: past president and director of the Kiwanis Club, member of the executive committee of the Sir William Johnson Council Boy Scouts of America, district chairman of the Erie Towpath, also past leadership training chairman; past president of the Montgomery County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, a life member, past commander, historian and safety officer of the Sacandaga Power Squadron, served two terms as director of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce; served three terms as vice president of the Retail Council of New York State, member of the National Retail Merchants Association; past treasurer and director of the Amsterdam Mall Merchants; past director of Industries for Amsterdam; Montgomery County Cooperative Extension Director and president in 1994, a life member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge 101, member of the Welcome Lodge 829 F&AM the Oriental Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Troy; Amsterdam Shrine Club, life member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Corning Consistory, Post 55 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Jewish War Veterans, past president of Temple Israel, president of the Temple of Israel Cemetery Corp., past secretary of Amsterdam Jewish Charities and a member of B'nai B'rith.
Sam's beloved wife, the former Maxine Rose Fuld, formerly of Albany, whom he married May 29, 1949, died October 8, 1994.
Surviving are his son, Alan F. and his wife, Holly B. Fox of Guilderland; his daughter, Amy F. and her husband, Lyle Richardson, of Englewood, Ohio, and two grandchildren, Dana and Marcie Richardson. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Mr. Fox was predeceased by his two sisters, Helen Slachman and Alice Silbert.
Funeral services will be held 12:15 p.m. Thursday at Temple of Israel Cemetery, Cranesville, with Rabbi Deborah Gordon officiating. Burial will follow the service. A Masonic service will be held 12:00 noon preceding the funeral service at the cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation at St. Mary's Hospital or to a charity of one's choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.
A period of mourning will be observed Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-4 p.m. at the home of Alan and Holly Fox, 707 Sachem Circle, Guilderland, N.Y.
