Mary R. Smith
January 14, 2002
Mrs. Mary R. Smith, 78, of Stone Arabia St., Nelliston, died early Monday morning at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
She was born in the Town of Root on November 16, 1923 the daughter of Cesare and Maria Grazia Damico Rappa.
She was educated at Canajoharie Schools.
Mrs. Smith was employed as a machine operator for Life Savers, Canajoharie, retiring June 6, 1980. She was a life long area resident.
Mrs. Smith was a member of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Fort Plain. She was a member of Local Bakers & Confectionary Union for Life Savers.
She was married in 1950 to Earl "Ozzie" Smith in Canajoharie. He died in September 1966.
Mrs. Smith was also predeceased by two brothers: John and Christopher Rappa and two sisters: Anna Lamanna and Marion Donatucci.
She is survived by one daughter: Mary G. Clayburn of Palatine Bridge; two sons: Stanley C. Smith and Gregory C. Smith of Canajoharie; one sister: Margaret Salamone of Canajoharie; one brother: Salvatore "Zeke" Rappa of Ames; three granddaughters: Candice Smith, Jennifer Clayburn and Jill Clayburn all of Palatine Bridge; three grandsons: Gregory Smith of Fultonville, Jayson Smith and Anthony Smith of Canajoharie; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A 9:15 a.m. Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, January 17 at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., Canajoharie, followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Reid St., Fort Plain with Father Kenneth Swain. Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery in the spring. Calling hours are Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service, PO Box 126, Canajoharie, NY 13317.

Grace T. Passa
January 14, 2002
Grace T. Passa, 72, of Harvard Avenue, passed away Monday afternoon at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
Born in Amsterdam on December 29, 1929, a daughter of Gaetano and Assunta Giannecchini DeLuca, she was a 1947 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. In her youth, Grace excelled in sports and loved athletics. Mrs. Passa was employed as a bookkeeper for the former Mohegan Market, Slezak Brother's Oil Co., J. DeStefano Market for a time, and later was a proofreader for the Amsterdam Recorder until she and her husband moved to Florida in December 1972. While there, she worked as a sales clerk for Walgreen Stores in Pompano Beach. Mrs. Passa returned to Amsterdam in 1997. She was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, and was a member of St. Stanislaus Seniors.
Her beloved husband, Alfred A. Passa, whom she married on December 3, 1950, preceded her in death on March 12, 1979.
Her loving family includes her four daughters: Susan G. Kazilis of Broadalbin; Diane G. Pabis and her friend Steven Pye; Andrea Worthing and her husband John of Altoona, PA.; and Donna Volcheck of Bakers Mills, NY; her three brothers: P. Thomas DeLuca of Amsterdam; Louis DeLuca of Amsterdam and Plant City, FL; John V. DeLuca of Amsterdam; her sister: Yolanda Rogers of Amsterdam; her six grandchildren: Brenda and Sandra Pabis; Charles and Thomas Volcheck; Gina Mackey and Samantha Worthing; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are Thursday at 8:15 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Church. Fr. Lawrence J. Decker, celebrant. Interment is in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to St. Michael's Memorial Fund, the Amsterdam Cancer Center, or Community Hospice of Amsterdam all in care of Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home.

John V. Lolio
January 5, 2002
John V. Lolio, 62, a native of Frankfort, died unexpectedly on Saturday, January 5, 2002 at his home in Bullhead City, Arizona. John was born on April 30, 1939 in Herkimer, NY. He was the son of the late Anthony and Genevieve Durant Lolio.
He leaves his wife of forty years, the former Barbara Austin and his three daughters: Valerie Muncie and her husband Shawn, Bonnie Garcia, and Pam Madrid. His three loving sisters: Amelia Wood and her husband Harley of Mohawk, Ann Jenks and her husband Robert of Fort Plain, and Mary Schlotzhaurer and her husband Eric of Mohawk; also survive John. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 19, from 1-3 p.m. at Enea's Family Funeral Home, Main St., Frankfort, Reverend Alfred Lamanna will officiate at the service At the request of the family, all charitable contributions may be made to the Frankfort Volunteer Fire Department in his name.

Ann Levine
January 12, 2002
Ann Levine, age 94, of the Guilderland Center Nursing Home died Saturday, January 12, 2002. Mrs. Levine was born in Montreal, Canada. She lived in Amsterdam for more than thirty years where she worked at the New Paris Shop and later with her husband at the Amsterdam Business Machine Company. She had been a resident of the Ohav Sholom Apartments in Albany prior to moving to the Guilderland Center Nursing Home. She was a member of the sisterhood of Congregation Sons of Israel in Amsterdam as well as a member of the sisterhood of Congregation Ohav Sholom in Albany.
She was married to Joseph Levine until his passing in 1981. She is survived by a son Gerald Levine and his wife Judy of Clifton, Virginia, and a daughter Raylene Jacobs and her husband Richard of Albany. Sister of Frances Cherry of Montreal. Grandmother of Phillip Levine, Debbie Levine Snyder and her husband Kurt, Valerie Beth Levine, Margaret Levine Upbin and her husband Bruce and Alicia and Daniel Jacobs. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son William Victor Levine, two sisters, Vivian Abugov of Montreal and Rae Shapiro Nadler also of Montreal and two brothers, Louis Shapiro of Royal Palm Beach, Florida and Jack Shapiro of Montreal.
Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, Albany on Tuesday, January 15, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Beth Abraham Jacob Cemetery on Fuller Road in Guilderland, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Ohav Sholom, New Krumkill Road, Albany, NY 12208 or a charity of ones choice.

Gladys Mae Nellis
January 14, 2002
Gladys Mae Nellis, 80, of 123 South St., Johnsville Road, Fort Plain, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2002 at her home after a long and brave battle, with her family by her side.
She was born September 5, 1921 in Oppenheim, the daughter of the late Newell James and Ida (Bishop) Montana. Gladys was educated in Oppenheim Grade school and was a graduate of Dolgeville High School, class of 1937.
Her marriage to Howard J. (Bucky) Nellis took place on December 12, 1946 in Herkimer. The couple shared a blessed union of marriage for 54 years until the passing of Mr. Nellis on September 25, 2001.
Mrs. Nellis was once employed at the former Little Falls Foot Wear in St. Johnsville, and was of the Protestant faith.
A loving and caring woman, who will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and everyone that knew her. A person devoted to her family she spent her life being a super loving mother. In her leisure she enjoyed family barbecues and long rides in the country.
Survivors include her sons: Howard J. Nellis, III of St. Johnsville, and Ronald Nellis of Fort Plain, and a daughter Jodi Nellis of Little Falls, two sisters: Ruth Polenski of Oppenheim and Helen Johnson of Dolgeville, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins, and her life long friend: Mary Sotak of New Egypt, NJ.
She was predeceased by two brothers: James Newell Montana and Clayton Montana.
In keeping with Gladys' wishes cremation will take place under the direction of the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.

Antoinette (Edna) Przybylo
January 14, 2002
Mrs. Antoinette (Edna) Przybylo, 92, formerly of the Amsterdam Hi-Rise, died Monday afternoon at Montgomery Meadows Residential Health Care Facility.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, Amsterdam.

William Thomas Bradsell
January 7, 2002
Mr. William Thomas Bradsell, 77, of Minden, died suddenly Monday, January 7, at his home.
He was born on June 6, 1924 in Valhalla, NY the son of Richard and Myrtilla Foshay Bradsell. Mr. Bradsell lived in Valhalla, Hawthorne and Hopewell Junction until moving to Minden in 1993.
During World War II Mr. Bradsell served with the United States Navy.
He was employed in his early years delivering coal and then fuel oil until his retirement from Petro Fuels in Carmel, NY.
Mr. Bradsell was a former member of the Masons in Pleasantville, NY, and former active member of the Grotto in Mt. Vernon, NY. He was also a member of the Teamsters Local 456 and an active member of the local senior citizens.
Mr. Bradsell was of the Dutch Reformed faith.
Survivors include his wife Virginia Davis Bradsell whom he married on March 28, 1948; two daughters, Marilyn Johnson of Sleepy Hollow, NY and Judith Cotton of Poughquag, NY; a sister Marjorie Carlson of Accord, NY; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins,.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie with the Rev. Nancy Ryan officiating. The burial will take place in the Fort Plain Cemetery in the spring. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the St. Johnsville Nursing Home Resident Council, 7 Timmerman Ave., St. Johnsville, NY 13452.

Sybil Weaver Sirovica
January 15, 2002
Sybil Weaver Sirovica, 79, formerly of Seventh Avenue, Gloversville, died Tuesday morning at the Nathan Littauer Hospital after a short illness.
Mrs. Sirovica was born on July 3, 1922 in Gloversville, NY where she was a lifelong resident. She was the daughter of Thomas and Elsie Ridinton Weaver. She was a 1939 graduate of Gloversville High School and a 1943 graduate of Potsdam State Teachers College.
Mrs. Sirovica was an elementary teacher for 35 years in Mayfield schools retiring in 1979. She was committee woman and secretary of the Fulton County Women's Republican Club and was honored by the club as its 1996 Woman of the Year. As a member of the Gloversville Republican Committee, she served on the advisory board. She was elected to the Executive Committee and then became recording secretary. In 1986, she served as chairwoman in her Gloversville Ward after she was elected committee woman.
Mrs. Sirovica was a member of Fulton County Republican Club, The Women's Republican Club and Gloversville Republican Club. She was elected to serve in the capacity of secretary in both the Fulton County Republican Club and Women's Republican Club. She was treasurer of the Fulton County Children's Committee and member of the Friends of the Library and secretary of her high school reunion committee. Mrs. Sirovica was a charter member and past president of the N.Y.S. Association of Teachers of the Mentally Handicapped, past treasurer of the Fulton County Retired Teachers Association and member of the NYS Retired Teachers.
She was predeceased by her husband of 25 years, the late Frank Sirovica and predeceased by long time companion Louis R. Riccio of Amsterdam. She is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins: the Douglas Jinks Family of Gloversville and dear friends, Dr. Joseph and Mary Hope Giardino and family of Gloversville, Jane Rogers and family of Indian Lake, Mrs. Marilyn Kemp of Gloversville, Judge Robert Best and his wife, Suzanne of Gloversville, the Riccio families of Amsterdam, many political friends includingSen Hugh Farley, Assemblyman Marc Butler and attorney general of NYS Sandy Treadwell.
Calling hours will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at John W. Finocan Funeral Home Inc., 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville where funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday. Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematory, Schenectady. Interment will take place at St. Michael's Cemetery, Amsterdam.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Children's Committee of Fulton County, c/o Mary Hope Giardino, 23 Baker Road, Gloversville, NY 12078; the Senior Citizen Service Center of Gloversville and Fulton County, 53 Church St., Gloversville, NY 12078; the Trinity Anglican Episcopal Church, 14 Grand St., Gloversville, NY 12078 or charity of choice.

Antoinette (Edna) Przybylo
January 14, 2002
Mrs. Antoinette (Edna) Przybylo, 92, formerly of the Amsterdam Hi-Rise, died Monday afternoon at Montgomery Meadows Residential Health Care Facility.
She was born November 1, 1909 in Amsterdam, New York a daughter of the late Steve and Mary Gniady. She graduated from St. Stanislaus School and was a lifelong resident.
She was a Setter for the former Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Company. Later, she worked for the General Electric Company in Schenectady, New York. Lastly, she worked for Neisner Bros. (Big N) in Amsterdam before retiring in 1971.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church. She was a member of the St. John's Pierogi Ladies.
She was married to Raymond F. Przybylo on October 25, 1930. He died February 2, 1973. She was also predeceased by her daughter Marion H. Fleszar on June 17, 1999.
She is survived by: one sister Adeline Magielda, Amsterdam; one grandson Alfred J. Fleszar Jr. and wife Kathy, Ormond Beach, Florida; two great-granddaughters Ashley and Nicole Fleszar both of Ormond Beach, Florida and her son-in-law Alfred Fleszar Sr. of Amsterdam; nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held 8:30 Friday morning at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 o'clock at St. Stanislaus Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Church or the Church of St. John the Baptist.

Hildegarde I. Myers (Majewski)
January 14, 2002
Mrs. Hildegard I. Myers (Majewski), 87, formerly of Curry Road and recently of Kingsway Arms Nursing Home died Monday evening at St. Clare's Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Amsterdam, New York, she moved to the Schenectady area in 1947 and has resided there since. She was employed by the General Electric Company in the Small Motor Department for 35 years, retiring in 1978.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church and the General Electric Quarter Century Club and a volunteer at the Ten Eyck Apartments Senior Citizens.
She was married to Alfonse J. Myers who died in 1979. She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was the daughter of the late Veronica and Joseph Swinarski.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 17 at 8:15 a.m. at the Kayaka Funeral Home, Inc., 819 Eastern Avenue, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also call at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment, St. Adelbert Cemetery, Rotterdam. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 3034 Ford Avenue, Schenectady, NY 12306.

Mary E. Doonar
January 5, 2002
Mary E. Doonar, 60, of 80 Park Street, died Saturday, January 5, 2002, at the Nathan Littauer Hospital.
Born June 14, 1941 in Malone, NY, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Anne Lynch Doonar. They predeceased her.
She lived several years in Malone, and later she and her family moved to Gloversville. She attended schools in Gloversville and graduated high school in Gloversville. She attended and graduated from Nazareth College with her bachelor's degree. Following her graduation from college she resided and worked in Rochester, later moving to Kinderhook, where she taught elementary school for the Greenport School District. Later, she returned to Gloversville to reside and taught at Pleasant Avenue School in Johnstown. She was forced to retire from teaching in the early 1980's due to ill health.
She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Gloversville.
Three cousins survive her: John (Jack) Pelkey and Clarice Champagne, both of Malone, and Rev. John Kennehan of Potsdam.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by two aunts: Margaret Pelkey and Mary Lynch, both of Malone; also one uncle: James Lynch of Plattsburgh.
There will be no callinh hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be announced and celebrated in May 2002 in St. Joseph's Church, Malone. Spring burial will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fort Covington Street Road, Malone. Funeral arrangements are through St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home, Inc., Malone, NY.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Nazareth College.

Chester F. Bradley
January 13, 2002
Chester F. Bradley, 90, of Sebring, Florida died January 13. He was a former resident of Amsterdam, NY.
He was born in Silver Creek, New York.
Mr. Bradley was self employed in the bowling alley industry.
He is survived by his wife Eleanor of Sebring; one son Bruce Bradley of Boca Raton, Fl; two daughters: Sandra Bradley of Sebring, Fl and Kathleen Bradley of Topock, Az; one brother Donald Bradley of Sebring, Fl; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Cremation took place in Sebring.

Robert Oare Jr.
January 19, 2002
Robert Oare Jr., 75, of Church St., Hagaman, passed away unexpectedly Saturday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
Born in Broadalbin, NY on August 18, 1926 a son of Robert and Elsie Kisinger Oare, Sr. He was a lifelong resident of the Fulton and Montgomery County area. He attended Gloversville High School.
He worked first for Mohasco in Amsterdam. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He then was employed as a Millwright for General Electric in Schenectady for over 25 years.
Mr. Oare was of the Protestant Faith.
He was an avid fisherman, hunter and enjoyed camping.
He married the former Dorothy Orrey on October 7, 1950.
In addition to his wife survivors included: two sons, Robert M. Oare and his wife Nancy of Amsterdam, Edward N. Oare and his wife Donna of Westerlo, NY; two daughters: Bonnie L. Vascherault of Gainesville, Florida and Laurie Smith and her husband Jeffrey of Schenectady, NY; one brother Gerald Oare of Gloversville, NY; one sister Kathleen Kucel of Gloversville, NY; two grandchildren: Robert R. Oare and Arthur R. Vascherault; one great-grandson Joshua Hunter Oare; two step-grandchildren: Julia Presley and Nattiece Taylor. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Cremation will take place at Vale Cemetery Crematorium in Schenectady. Burial will be in Union Mills Cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery County S.P.C.A., State Highway 5S, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
