Kenneth K. Bell
March 18, 2002
Kenneth K. Bell, 62, of the Town of Mayfield died Monday March 18, 2002 at his home.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii on January 5, 1940 the son of Opal and Clara Louise (Robertson) Bell.
Mr. Bell lived in Hagaman until 1992 when he moved to his present home in Mayfield.
Mr. Bell was a 1958 graduate of Floral Park High School on Long Island, he attended SUNY Potsdam where he received his Bachelors and Masters degrees. Mr. Bell was an elementary school teacher in the city of Amsterdam for many years. He taught students remedial reading and was a member of the Amsterdam Teachers Association.
Mr. Bell is survived by his good friends Keith and Kathy MacDougall of Gloversville.
Services for Mr. Bell will be private and the interment will be in Hagaman Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.

Antionette T. Hess
March 18, 2002
Antionette T. Hess, 81, of Colonie, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2002 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home. Mrs. Hess was born in Albany and was the daughter of the late Leo and Theresa Losavio DiPierro.
She resided in Colonie for over 40 years. Antionette was employed with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles for many years before her retirement.
Mrs. Hess enjoyed crocheting, ceramics and reading.
Antionette is the wife of the late William F. Hess. She is the beloved mother of Mary Ann Kruger and her husband Daryl of Siloam Springs, AR, William F. Hess, Jr. and his wife Theresa of Berne and Anthony John Hess and his wife Kim of Wall, NJ. She is the sister of Cosmo DiPierro of Ravena and the late Grace Girzone and Mary Gisotti. She is the devoted grandmother of Stephanie Brasel, Kristina Franklin, Courtney Kruger, Alexina Hess, Abigail Hess and Sydney Hess. She is the cherished great grandmother of Arlin (Bo) Brasel and Madison Morgan Brasel. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 7:45 at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Rt..155-south of Central Avenue) then to the Church of St. Clare at 8:30 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 7 Washington Square, Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Antionette T. Hess.

Antoinette M. Barnell
March 20, 2002
Antoinette M. Barnell, 92, of Phillips Street, passed away Wednesday evening at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born in Amsterdam on June 13, 1909 a daughter of Salvatore and Rose Pallotta Morini. She was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam.
She attended St. Mary's Institute in Amsterdam.
She was employed as a bookkeeper and accountant for her father at Morini Coal and Oil Co. in Amsterdam for many years. She also worked for the Department of Welfare in Amsterdam and the World Book Encyclopedia.
Mrs. Barnell was a talented singer, dancer and actress participating in many local musicals.
She also enjoyed cooking and baking.
She married Mr. Gerald P. Barnell on October 12, 1940. He passed away on September 27, 1998.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Barnell and his wife Terri of Schenectady; one sister Phyllis Miller of Amsterdam; two sisters-in-law Irene Morini and Edith Barnell Mercurio both of Amsterdam. Several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 10:15 a.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Amsterdam. Interment will be in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gerald P. Barnell Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.

Kathryn Tygert Taylor
March 20, 2002
Mrs. Kathryn Tygert Taylor, 42, of Robinson Road, Esperance, NY died Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady, NY after a long battle with melanoma (skin cancer).
Kathryn was born October 5, 1959, in Schenectady, NY, the daughter of Robert and Judith (Brown) Tygert. She was a 1978 graduate of Schenectady High School. She had been employed by New York State Department of Motor Vehicles in Albany for the past four years, and had previously been employed by Kelly Temp Services. Several years ago, she worked at Key Bank serving as a floater in the Capital Region for nearly 10 years.
She was a member of the Esperance-Sloansville United Methodist Church, its church choir, and the youth group, along with assisting in the food pantry. She was a former member of the Esperance Volunteer Fire Department. Kathryn was also a member of the Mohawk Valley Chorus in Amsterdam. She also enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.
Kathryn's loving family includes her husband, George R. Taylor Jr., whom she married on May 17, 1980; one daughter, Karen Jean Taylor of Esperance; one son, Keith Robert Taylor, of Albany; one sister Karen Tygert Gort, of Las Vegas, Nevada; one brother, Karl Tygert, of Schenectady. Her parents, Robert and Judy Tygert of Rotterdam, along with several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2002 at the Esperance-Sloansville United Methodist Church, Route 20, Esperance, NY. Reverend Robert IIundemann, Pastor, will officiate along with the former Pastors: Reverend Robert Boston, Reverend Alden Asborson and Reverend Dewey Armitage. Burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
A visitation period will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23 at Langan Funeral Home, 227 Main Street, Schoharie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Kathryn to the Esperance-Sloansville United Methodist Church, Route #20, Esperance, New York 12066.

Harold Van Denburgh
March 21, 2002
Harold Van Denburgh, 67, of Union Street passed away suddenly Thursday afternoon at his home.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Amsterdam with the Rev. William E. Siis officiating. Family and friends are welcome at the church at 12:30 p.m. prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.

Franklin John "Dutch" Heeder
March 16, 2002
Franklin John "Dutch" Heeder, 82, of St. John's Nursing Home, died Saturday, March 16, 2002 of heart failure.
He is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Alice J. (Scheck) Heeder; his parents John Henry Heeder and Bessie Pearl (Culver) Heeder, a brother William Heeder; sisters Florence Bertsch and Carol Wilson.
Mr. Heeder was born on July 14, 1919, Rochester, New York where he graduated from John Marshall High School (class of 1937). He attended Ohio State University where he was a member of Beta Phi Chapter of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. From Ohio State he served in the United States Army under General George Patton in Germany where he received an honorable discharge.
After a long and successful career in engineering and manufacturing he retired as executive vice president of Ward Products, Inc., Amsterdam, NY on December 29, 2000 after 36 years of service at age 80.
Mr. Heeder is survived by his only child Jeffrey (Nancy) Heeder of Rochester; three grandchildren, Jennifer Heeder Gustafson of Georgia; Melanie Heeder of Georgia; and Jeffrey Heeder II; sisters, Betty Heeder Balch and Marilyn Heeder, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
No prior visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial service celebrating his life on Saturday, March 30, 11:00 a.m. at the Paul W. Harris Funeral Home, Inc., 570 Kings Highway South (corner Titus Ave.). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John's Home, 150 highland Avenue, Rochester, NY 14620 or The American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220.

Walter F. Hickey
March 23, 2002
Walter F. Hickey, 85, of the Stratton Apartments, Division Street, passed away Saturday evening at St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Schenectady on January 9, 1917, he was educated there and lived there until he moved to Amsterdam fifteen years ago.
Walter was employed by the General Electric Company in Schenectady for twenty five years before he retired in 1982 and was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club.
During World War II, he served with the US Army in the Pacific, and fought in the Aleutian Islands. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal.
He is survived by several dear friends, including Veronica Bindulski of Amsterdam.
Walter was a special person who had friends that cared about him.
A prayer service will be held on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue. Fr. Lawrence J. Decker, officiating. Calling hours are Wednesday after the service, until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will take place in St. Michael's Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 40 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Frank Testa
March 24, 2002
Mr. Frank Testa, 81, of Northern Boulevard died Sunday morning at the Wilkinson Skilled Nursing Facility.
He was born January 18, 1921 in Amsterdam, New York a son of the late Daniel and Angeline Natole Testa. He was educated locally and always resided here.
Mr. Testa was a custodian in the Greater Amsterdam School District for many years before retiring.
He was a member of St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church in Hagaman, NY.
He was married to Helen Wilkevitch Testa. She died in 1984.
He is survived by one son, Timothy F. Testa and wife Arlene, Cobleskill, NY; three grandsons Timothy, Gregory and Nicholas Testa, of Cobleskill, NY; four brothers Alphonse Testa of Florida, Frederick Testa of California, and Joseph and Anthony Testa of Amsterdam, NY; one sister Lena Bucciferro of Perth, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held 10:15 Wednesday morning at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 o'clock at St. Stephen's Church, Hagaman, NY. Interment will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Hagaman, NY later in the spring. Calling hours are 4-7 Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

Harold Van Denburgh
March 21, 2002
Harold Van Denburgh, 67, of Union Street, passed away suddenly Thursday afternoon at his home.
Born in Amsterdam on March 21, 1935 a son of Harold and Anna Jones Van Denburgh, Sr.
He was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and attended local schools.
Mr. Van Denburgh had most recently worked as a School Crossing Guard for the Greater Amsterdam School District before retiring.
He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Amsterdam. He was an avid bowler in the Thursday night leagues at Super 30 Lanes in Amsterdam. He also was a member of the Guan-Ho-Ha Fish and Game Club.
Mr. Van Denburgh was a former member of Troop 25 and 23 of the Boy Scouts of America in Amsterdam and former member of the Big Brothers and Big Sisters in Amsterdam.
He was also in the Army National Guard.
He married Shirley J. Pohlman Van Denburgh on November 29, 1969.
In addition to his wife survivors include, two brothers-in-law, Rev. Stewart Pohlman and Harold Fredericks; two sisters-in-law, Joan Pohlman and Mildred Fredericks. Several nieces, nephews and cousins survive.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Amsterdam with the Rev. William E. Siis officiating. Family and friends are welcome at the church at 12:30 p.m. to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.

Roy Gunnerson
March 22, 2002
Roy Gunnerson, 83, of Shady Lane, Fonda died Friday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born in Lundlow, Vermont on May 14, 1918 a son of Walter and Helen (Northup) Gunnerson. His family moved to the Mohawk Valley in 1922 where Roy has lived his entire life except for those years spent in the Army. Roy was a dairy farmer who worked his own farm when he could.
Mr. Gunnerson served his country faithfully during WWII in the US Army. During the war he was taken as a prisoner of war in Africa, was forced marched through Italy and was held captive in Germany for two years until 1945. For his efforts in the armed services he receive numerous medals including three Bronze Stars. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 942.
Survivors include his sister, Eunice Wemple of Amsterdam; his brother, Earl Gunnerson of Fonda; two nieces, Claudia McDuffie of Fonda and Eloise Paro of Fonda; a nephew, Richard Gunnerson; three greatnephews, Christopher Paro, Richard Gunnerson and Douglas Gunnerson.
His sister Ruth Ortell passed away in September of 2000.
Services will be held Tuesday 12:00 noon at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville with Pastor Joyce Jennings officiating. Interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery with full military honors. There will be a calling hour preceding the service at the funeral home.

Henry (Hank) Cerrone
March 23, 2002
Henry (Hank) Cerrone, 93, of State Highway 67, Johnstown died Saturday at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born January 8, 1909 in Italy the son of Camillo and Maria DiFazio Cerrone. He came to Johnstown at the age of two.
Mr. Cerrone attended Johnstown Schools. He owned and operated Cerrone's Tavern from the 1940's until 1969 when he turned it over to his late son Gary Cerrone, He was a Golden Gloves boxer and also trained many fighters including the late Tommy Baker, a middleweight national contender. He promoted professional wrestling in Fulton County.
Mr. Cerrone also managed and played Championship Baseball with the former Fulton County Glovers, a semi-pro baseball team which traveled to the National Championship in Wichita, Kansas from 1955 - 1958.
He served as president of the Tryon Kennel Club for many years, and was a member of the Johnstown Moose Lodge.
Mr. Cerrone was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church of Johnstown.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years Dorothy Hamilton Cerrone; two daughters Patricia Dudley of Amsterdam, Sheila Habla of Bleecker; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son Gary Cerrone in 1988 and three brothers, Joseph, Robert and John Cerrone; four sisters Helen, Theresa, Betty and Marguerite.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. The Rev. James Fitzmaurice, Pastor of Immaculate Conception, as celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in the spring.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, corner of Main and Melcher Street.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gary Cerrone Scholarship Fund in care of Jack Callery, 23 Cady Street, Johnstown, NY 12095 or the Fulton County SPCA, 486 Stevers Mills Road, Broadalbin, NY 12025.

Robert S. Jones
March 25, 2002
Robert S. Jones, 64, of Dygert Road, Canajoharie passed away suddenly Monday morning, March 25, 2002 while helping out at his daughter's home, leaving his life as he lived it - a devoted and loving father.
He was born on November 4, 1937 in Amsterdam, and lived his entire life in the Marshville area. He was the oldest son of Harry and Dorothy Poole Jones. He attended country schools and graduated from Canajoharie High School. He was lifelong member of Marshville Evangelical Church.
After working in the pea fields for Beech-Nut for a few years, he was employed for 32 years as a burner man for Agway until his retirement in January 2000. There are few homes in the area that he has not been in to fix or install a furnace at some time.
He was married to Betty Saltsman Jones on August 24, 1963. Together, they built a home for their three children behind his parent's home so that he could lovingly care for his parents for the rest of their lives.
His hobbies and interests centered around things done with or for his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed taking them all to the family camp in Wells, or tenting out on one of the islands of Indian Lake. He and his son enjoyed hunting and fishing together. He has left behind memories in every corner of his family's homes because of his hobby of wood-working, and the flower gardens and fruit trees which he enjoyed planting and caring for will continue to bloom in his memory. He also took pride in being the family mechanic and handyman.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Betty J. Jones, Canajoharie, NY; two daughters, Jennifer and her husband Kevin May of Canajoharie, NY and Beckie Jones and her companion Steve Soodsma of Canajoharie, NY; one son, Craig Jones of Canajoharie, NY; six grandchildren, Ashley, Andrew, Alyssa and Alex May of Canajoharie, NY and Cora and Jared Soodsma of Canajoharie, NY; one brother Alan and his wife Ellen Jones of Jordanville, NY; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is also survived by his beloved dogs Hershey, Jake, and Kecia.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2002 at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, with Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating.
Calling hours will be 7:00-9:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 27 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marshville Evangelical Church, St. Hwy 10, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
