Mary Carmen Wheeler, 58, of Lincoln Avenue, passed away suddenly Tuesday evening at her home.
She was born in San Diego, Ca., on December 21, 1943, a daughter of Anthony and Carmen Pena. She moved to this area from Houston three years ago and was a housewife who enjoyed being with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband Richard N. Wheeler to whom she was married September 29, 1984; her son, Wayne Hollen of Temecula, Ca., her daughters, Marie Shelton of Hammond, Ind., Nina Banta of Amsterdam, and Kelly Rhoades of Tulsa, Ok.; her brothers, Ernesto and Anthony Pena of San Diego; fourteen grandchildren, Anthony and Matthew Hollen, Theresa and Rex Wheeler, Helen and Thomas Shelton, Kevin Jr., Joshua, Cecilia and Carmen Banta, Caleb, Kassandra, Alicia and Joshua Rhoades; nieces, nephews and cousins survive.
Services are Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue with Pastor Jeffrey Keady of Perth Bible Church officiating.
A calling hour will begin at noon, prior to the service.
Cremation will take place at the Vale Crematory, Schenectady.
Benjamin Rose
December 4, 2002
Mr. Benjamin Rose, 70, former resident of Center Street, Fonda and the Pine View Commons in Johnstown, NY for the past three years, died Wednesday at the Palatine Nursing Home after being a resident for the past three weeks.
Born June 21, 1932, in the Town of Root, NY, he was the son of Charles H. and Ruth H. VanDerVer Rose. He attended Canajoharie Schools and lived most of hi s life in Fonda.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Rose was employed as a truck driver for the Bolsters Lumber Mill in Fonda and later for General Electric Company of Schenectady, retiring in 1987.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was married on August 26, 1972, to the former Arlene Shubert, who died on March 27, 1996. He was predeceased by two daughters, Genevieve Costanzo who died in 1989 and Tina Marie Rose who died in 1979.
Mr. Rose is survived by his family, two sons, Benjamin M. Rose Sr. of Fultonville, NY and Joseph C. Rose of Fonda; five daughters, Gwen Hutchins of Fonda, Penny Rose of Fort Plain, NY, Peggy Carpenter of Johnstown, NY, Laurie LaVoie and Pamela Manchester of Fultonville; eighteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, with the Rev. Newton Perrins officiating.
Burial will take place at Maple Avenue Cemetery in Fultonville.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Fonda Fultonville Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Stuart M. Cotton
December 4, 2002
Mr. Stuart M. Cotton, 91, of Lafayette Street, Palatine Bridge died early Wednesday morning, December 4, 2002 at the Palatine Nursing Home after a long illness.
He was born October 29, 1911 in Springfield, NY a son of Lester and Cornelia Ostrander Cotton.
Mr. Cotton was educated in Canajoharie schools.
Mr. Cotton was employed in the maintenance department at Beech-Nut Corp., Canajoharie for 20 years, retiring in 1969.
He was a resident of the Palatine Bridge area since 1997, previously residing in the Fonda area from 1992-1997 residing with his beloved friends, Lula and Ronald Wilmont and family. Prior to that he resided in the Johnstown, Florida, Canajoharie and Ames area.
Mr. Cotton was a veteran of the US Army serving in WWII in the 66th Division-Panther, as a Corporal-Dispatcher in the Motor Vehicle.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He was a member of the Smith-Schultz American Legion Post 222, Canajoharie, 32 Degree Mason, Ziyara Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Utica, Hamilton Lodge No. 79 F&AM, Canajoharie, and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Chapter Consistory Valley of Utica.
He was married to Marie Winsman Cotton on August 3, 1934 in Gloversville, NY, she died March 14, 1990.
Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Margaret Cotton of SC; one niece, Joyce Hayes, SC; one beloved sister-in-law, Iva Zajicek, Johnstown, NY; family friends, Lula and Ronald Wilmont and family, Fonda, NY and several cousins and friends.
Mr. Cotton was predeceased by one brother, George Cotton; one sister, Wary Wicks and one nephew, Jim Hayes.
A 4:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 6, 2002 at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with the Rev. Chris Degraff, pastor of Fonda Reformed Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda at the convenience of the family.
Calling hours are 2-4 p.m. Friday, December 6 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Dorothy Elizabeth Myers Smith

Dorothy Elizabeth Myers Smith, 91, a resident of Seneca Lake Terrace, Pre-Emption Road, Geneva since April, died December 4, 2002 at Geneva General Hospital after a heart attack.
Born May 1, 1911, in Geneva, she was the daughter of Kitt Sears Burr and Frank DeWitt Myers. Her husband, Orlo E. Smith, to whom she was married September 17, 1938, died September 25, 1975.
She was a lifelong resident of Geneva.
Prior to her marriage she taught piano with Mrs. V.V. Rogers, and was a one-time member of the former First Presbyterian Church.
Her family held in highest esteem her chocolate chip and molasses cookies and (sometime without the raisins) oatmeal cookies.
Surviving are her son, Barry E. Smith and Cathy Roe of Newark, Ontario Co., NY, and a daughter Eileen S. Broyles and her husband, Brad of Hagaman, Montgomery Co., NY; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Palmisano Funeral Home, Inc., 28 Genesee Street, Geneva.
A calling hour will begin at noon.
Burial in Whitney Cemetery, Town of Geneva, will follow the service.

Francis I. "Stub" Neale
December 7, 2002
Francis I. "Stub" Neale, 63 of 223 Allen Road, St.Johnsville, passed away on Saturday December 7, 2002 at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born September 14, 1939 in Edmonston, NY the son of the late William and Mary (Green) Neale. Francis was educated in Mohawk schools and moved to the St. Johnsville area in 1981.
His marriage to Elizabeth Sanders took place on June 25, 1983 at St. Johnsville United Methodist Church.
Mr. Neale served his country during the Vietnam Era, being discharged on March 31, 1969 with the rank of SP4.
For 25 years, Francis worked for BeechNut in Canajoharie, retiring in September 2001.
Mr. Neale was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Elizabeth; three daughters, Linda Guile and husband Harold of Dolgeville, Tammie and Willard Green Jr. of Germantown, NY and Judy Bauer of Gloversville; four sons, Thomas Juwett and wife Carol of Bridgewater, NY, Steven Juwett and wife Donna of Ilion, Ronald Juwett of Mohawk and William Juwett and friend Lorraine Cagwin of Dolgeville; three step children, Linda Passero of Johnstown, Elizabeth McDermott of St. Johnsville, and Robert Lyons and wife Shelly of St. Johnsville; one sister, Ruthann Gott and husband Thomas of Edmonston, NY; 26 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by two brothers, William and Larry Neale; one sister, Esther Dennison and one step daughter, Marilyn Jane White.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at 8:00 p.m. from the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center Street, St. Johnsville, NY with Reverend R.W. Williams, Pastor of Mt. Valley Hospice officiating.
Spring interment will take place in West St. Johnsville Cemetery.
Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 10, 2002 from 6:00 p.m. until the time of the services.

Laura C. Argersinger

Mrs. Laura C. Argersinger, 85, formerly of Johnstown, died Monday, December 23, 2002 , at the home of her daughter in Clayton, Jefferson County, after a long illness.
She was born October 27, 1917 in Canajoharie the daughter of Angelo and Augusta Heroth Waite.
She was a member of New Covenant Community Church, Johnstown.
Mrs. Argersinger was employed by the former Cresendoe and Superb Glove Company's until her retirement in 1979.
On October 27, 1939 she married Thomas C. Argersinger and he died June 4, 1992,
Survivors include two daughters, Martha Wrobel of Clayton, Jefferson County, and Margaret Gray of Johnstown; one sister, Edith Frederick of Johnstown; eight grandchildren, several great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.
Friends may call on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnston.

Caroline M. Mabbett

Mrs. Caroline M. Mabbett, 70, of Main Street, Fort Plain died Tuesday at the home of her daughter on Fishkill Road, Fort Plain.
Born on February 9, 1932 in Little Falls, NY she was the daughter of Walter and Caroline Bergen. She was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools.
She was first employed by Luxury Mills in Fort Plain. Following her first employment she then was employed by Anderson Department Store, Fort plain, and then the Ben Franklin 5 & 10 until her final employment at the Fort Plain news.
She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fort Plain.
Mrs. Mabbett was an avid NASCAR fan, her favorite driver being Jeff Gordon, and enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was predeceased on December 17, 1987 by her husband Herbert E. Mabbett whom she married on June 30, 1950. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Debra Delaney; a grandson, Robert Delaney Jr.; a brother, Henry Bergen and a sister, Betty Snyder.
Survivors include a son, Walter Mabbett and his wife Betsy of Fort Plain; a daughter, Pamela Spaulding and her husband Dana of Fort Plain; a brother, Walter Bergen and his wife, Sandy of Sprout Brook; four grandchildren, Jason Mabbett, Erin Nare, and Matthew and Angela Spaulding; five great grandchildren, McKay, Dawson and Garret Nare; Makail Mabbett and Ethan Spaulding; three step grandchildren, Cory and Mike Scanlon and Vicky Keeler and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 36 Lydius Street, Fort Plain with the Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating.
Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery in the spring.
Calling hours are Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Mountain Valley Hospice or St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Archie R. Stewart
December 22, 2002
Mr. Archie R. Stewart, 69, of Chestnut Street, Johnstown, died Sunday, December 22, 2002, at the Wells Nursing Home Inc., Johnstown, after a long illness.
He was born December 29, 2002 in Nelliston the son of Charles and Marie Smith Stewart.
Mr. Stewart was a 1950 graduate of Fort Plain High School, and received as A.A.S. from Utica Technical School in 1952.
He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the U. S. Army.
Mr. Stewart operated the former Stewart & Bergen Hardware that is now Stewart & Bergen Lock Smith. He was a certified scuba instructor at the YMCA for over forty years. An avid woodworker he created Archie's Rocking Friends, creating over 30 figures. He was a voting machine custodian for the City of Johnstown and County of Fulton. He was an artist and writer.
Survivors include hi son, Alex Stewart of Johnstown; one brother, Walter Stewart of Florence, Kentucky; two sisters, Cynthia Stewart of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Helen Stewart Friderici of Schenectady; nieces,nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown, with the Rev. R.W. Williams officiating.
Friends may call prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
It was Archie's request to make an Anatomical Donation to Albany Medical College.

Paula Scribner

Mrs. Paula Scribner, 48, of Fonda, died suddenly Tuesday at Albany Medical Center Hospital, after being stricken at home.
Born in Wellsville, NY, September 26, 1954, she was the foster daughter of Robert and Cecile Gallaway of Guilderland.
She was a graduate of Guilderland High School, and attended Albany College of Pharmacy.
Mrs. Scribner was a Health Care Supervisor for Liberty Enterprises in Amsterdam, and also worked part-time at Dunkin Donuts in Amsterdam.
Her and her husband were members of the Mr. & Mrs. America Bowling League in Amsterdam, and she was of the Catholic faith.
She is survived by her husband, Garry Scribner,whom she married July 7, 1990; a son Aaron Scribner of Fonda; a step daughter, Aura Scribner of Gloversville; a sister, Barbara Gallaway of Guilderland; a brother, Mark and his wife Lisa Gallaway of Guilderland; her foster parents; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 4:00 p.m. from the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker Street, Gloversville.
The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00-4:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematory, Schenectady. Interment of cremains will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville a the convenience of the family.
Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to a charity of choice.
