Mr. Charles L. Post, 84, of Ridge Road, Amsterdam, NY and Avon Park, FL, passed away Wednesday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born in Charleston, NY on June 6, 1919, he was a son of Fred and Blanche Vunk Post.
Mr. Post received his education at the Oak Ridge School House and was employed as a die setter in the generator department at General Electric Company, Schenectady, NY.
Mr. Post was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the Red Bunch Fish and Game Club in Mayfield, NY.
Mr. Post is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mae James Post to whom he was married on December 9, 1941; his son, Robert J. Post and his wife, Debera of Guilderland, NY; his daughter, Melissa Ross and her husband, James of Broadalbin, NY; three brothers, John Post of Fonda, NY; Bernard Post of Amsterdam, NY and Glen Post of Esperance, NY; five sisters, Doris Rose of Avon Park, FL, Janet Becker, Norma Spaulding and Beryl Millspaugh all of Schenectady, NY and Oramae Fancher of Esperance, NY; his only grandchild, Megan Ross of Broadalbin, NY; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Post was also predeceased by a brother, Lyle Post.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial gifts in Mr.. Post's name may be made to Fulton County SPCA, 486 Stevers Mills Road, Broadalbin, NY 12025.
Arrangements are by the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
Josie A. Lieckfeldt
June 15, 2003
Josie A. Lieckfeldt, 89, formerly of Willard Street, and more recently the Roosevelt Apartments, passed away Sunday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility.
Born in Amsterdam on February 26, 1914 a daughter of Anthony and Aniela Belz Bartman.
She lived here all her life and was a graduate of the former Amsterdam School of Commerce. She was employed as a bookkeeper for the First National Bank in Amsterdam until 1950, when she left to devote her time to her family.
She was active with various local senior groups such as the Guy Park, Perth and St. Mary's Seniors.
Josie was a communicant of the Church of St. John the Baptist in Amsterdam.
On July 2, 1949 she was united in marriage to Charles F. Lieckfeldt Jr. He preceded her in death on August 20, 1986.
She also lost her daughter, Joan Snyder in 2002.
Her loving family includes her son Charles F. Lieckfeldt III of Amsterdam; her sister, Catherine Knapik of Perth; six grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. at the Church of St. John the Baptist, VanDeveer Street. Father Stanley J. Swierzowski, celebrant.
Interment is in Fairview Cemetery.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
It was Josie's request that contributions be made to St. John's Church.
Jacqueline Peters
June 12, 2003
Mrs. Jacqueline L. Peters, 80, of Proust Road, Virginia Beach, Va. passed away Thursday morning at her home.
Born in Amsterdam on June 9, 1923, she was a daughter of Arthur and Sarah Stanley Hoefs. Mrs. Peters received her education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School.
Mrs. Peters was a homemaker.
Mrs. Peters is survived by her husband, Anthony Peters, whom she married on April 1, 1945; her son, Donald Peters and his wife, Roberta of Virginia Beach, Va.; three grandchildren, Jeremy Peters and Katy Peters of Kill Devil Hills, N.C. and Seth Peters of Virginia Beach, Va.; nieces; nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Peters was predeceased by four brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 156 E. Main St., Amsterdam. Interment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Schenectady.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at St. Mary's Church Chapel, 156 E. Main St., Amsterdam.
It is the request of the family that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, 427 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, 12010.
Arrangements are by the Riley Mortuary Inc., 110 Division St., Amsterdam, 12010.
Craig Packer
June 24, 2003
Craig Packer, age 44 of Brice Street, Amsterdam, NY died suddenly on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital after being stricken at his residence.
Craig was born in Amsterdam and was a lifelong resident. He attended FultonMontgomery Community College. He was employed by Benchmark-FLG of Rochester and Boston in sales at the time of his death. Prior to that he was associated with the Packer Wholesale Meats for many years. He was a graduate of the Amsterdam High School and was a member of Congregation Sons of Israel in Amsterdam.
He is survived by his loving wife Deborah Martuscello Packer. His children, Brandon Packer and Alison Packer both of Amsterdam, NY. Brother of Neal Packer of Niskayuna, NY, Bryan Packer of Florida, Gary Packer of Scotia and Heather Engle of Florida. Beloved son of Beverly Packer of Schenectady and the late Murray Packer. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother Shirley Harvey of Schenectady, and many nieces and nephews.
Craig had a great love for life, his family and his children meant everything to him.
Services at Congregation Agudat Achim, 2117 Union Street, Schenectady on Thursday, June 26, 2003 at 10:00 a.m.
Interment will follow in the Congregation Sons of Israel Cemetery in Cranesville, NY.
The period of mourning will be observed at the home of Andrea and Neal Packer, 20 Covington Court in Niskayuna, NY.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Packer Children's Scholarship Fund in c/o Hudson River Bank and Trust Company, 161 Church Street, Amsterdam, NY.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, Albany, NY.
Martin Rebis
June 24, 2003
Martin Rebis, 80, of Rebisz Road, Broadalbin, died Wednesday morning at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam following a short illness.
He was born in Garfield, New Jersey on May 1, 1923 a son of Martin and Mary Wyka Rebisz and moved to Broadalbin in 1928. Mr. Rebis was the Valedictorian of the Class of 1941 at the former Broadalbin High School. He also served as his class president.
Mr. Rebis was employed with the New York State Bill Drafting Commission, retiring after 20 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army/Air Corps stationed in Harlingen, Texas from 1942-1946 and attained the rank of sergeant.
Mr. Rebis was a committee man and also served as treasurer of the Broadalbin Democratic Club. He was a former member of the Board of Assessment Review for the Town of Broadalbin.
Mr. Rebis was a member of the Broadalbin Baptist Church and served as a trustee for many years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
On January 22, 1944, he was married to the former Jean Crannel Rebis. She died on January 14, 1993.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Mary Alice Rebis of Broadalbin; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Aubrey Graham of Charleston Heights, SC; four granddaughters, Isla, Stephanie, Connor, and Kathleen; two sisters, Josephine Boyle of Delanson and Jean Montgomery of Broadalbin; two brothers, Joseph Rebisz of Gloversville and John Rebisz of Broadalbin; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Broadalbin Baptist Church, 40 West Main Street with the Rev. Doug Blanc officiating.
Burial will be in the Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc., 38 West Main Street.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Broadalbin Baptist Church.
Eli Timothy Banks
June 16, 2003
Eli Timothy Banks, 8, of E. Lykers Road, Town of Charlestown, NY died Monday, June 16, 2003 in the Village of Palatine Bridge, NY following an accident.
Eli was born in Cooperstown, NY on April 4, 1995 the son of Corey R. and Nancy L. Tangen Banks.
He was being home schooled by his parents.
Eli was a life long area resident.
He attended Faith Bible Church with his family.
Eli enjoyed nature and art.
Eli is survived by his parents, Corey and Nancy Banks, Town of Charleston, NY; one older brother, Zachariah C. Banks, Town of Charleston, one sister, Heidi L. Banks, Town of Charleston; maternal grandparents, Tim and Linda Tangen, Town of Root, NY; paternal grandparents, Larry and Marjorie Banks, Homer, NY; matrnal great grandparents, Charles and Evelyn Grandy, Palatine Bridge, NY maternal great grandmother, Audrey Tangen, Town of Root, NY; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
An 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service celebrating Eli T. Banks' life will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at the Faith Bible Church, corner of Carlisle and Crosby Road, Sprakers, NY. Pastor Mark Kelly of the Faith Bible church will officiate.
Burial will take place in Christian Church Cemetery, Charleston, NY.
There will be no calling hours.
Eli and his family enjoyed many summers of camping, so in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Eli's memory to, Camp Bayouca Dining Hall Fund, Box 204, Marathon, NY 13803.
Evelyn M. Byrnes
June 25, 2003
Miss Evelyn M. Byrnes, 56, of Swart Hill Road, passed away Wednesday morning at the Mount Loretto Nursing Home.
Visitation will be held from 8:00-10:00 a.m. at the Mount Loretto-Mary of Fatima Chapel , Friday, June 27, 2003.
A Funeral Mass will follow starting at 10:00a.m.
Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Loretto Nursing Home in her memory.
Judith A. Silk Palmer
July 8, 2003
Judith A. Silk Palmer, 63, of Wilton Commons, Ganesvoort, passed away Tuesday evening at Ellis Hosptial after a long illness.
Born in Amsterdam on September 17, 1939 the daughter of the late William and Isabel Warfield Silk, she was educated in Amsterdam where she was employed by Mohasco and later Niagara Mohawk. She lived in Mayfield for a number of years and was the office manager for Federal Machine Co. in Johnstown. Mrs. Palmer was the co-owner of the former Stuffed Shirt Restaurant also in Johnstown. Following retirement she moved to Gansevoort to be closer to her son. An avid card player, she recently enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
She was a member of St. Ann's Episocpal Church in Amsterdam.
On September 5, 1959, she was united in marriage to Eugene Palmer at St. Ann's.
He preceded her in death on September 12, 1983.
Besides her parents and husband, her twin brother, Donald Silk passed away in January.
Her son Scott and his wife Jennifer Palmer of Saratoga Springs survive as well as nieces, nephews, grandnieces, nephews and cousins.
The Office For The Burial Of The Dead will be read Friday at 1:00 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue by the Rev. Christopher A. Smith, rector of St. Ann's Episcopal Church.
Interment will take place in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.
Calling hours are this evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the Amsterdam Free Library, in care of the funeral home.
Jeanne K. Bush
June 2, 2003
Mrs. Jeanne K. Bush, 87, of Tupelo, MS formerly of Perth Rd., Amsterdam died Monday June 2, 2003 at the Cedars Health Center in Tupelo after a long illness.
Born on May 27, 1916 in Amsterdam, NY she was the daughter of Joseph and Antonia Bialon Krygowski. A lifelong Amsterdam resident, Mrs. Bush was a graduate of the Wilbur Lynch High School, Class of 1933, and went on to graduate from the Spencer Business School.
Mrs. Bush and her husband, Frank J. Bush whom she married on June 2, 1934, owned and operated Bush's Poultry Farm in Perth for over 15 years. They then owned and operated Bush's Liquor Store in Perth, for over 26 years, until retiring in 1981.
She was a member and past president of the Perth Fire House Auxiliary. She also was a member of the Amsterdam Memorial Hosptial Auxiliary for over 30 years and worked in the gift shop at the hospital. Mrs. Bush was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Amsterdam.
Mrs. Bush was predeceased by her husband, Frank J. Bush in 1979. She was also predeceased by a brother, Joseph Krygowski; and two sisters, Mayme Januszewski and Amelia Tokarczyk.
Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl B. Pine and her husband James of Tupelo, MS; a granddaughter, Kimberly P. Turner of Jackson, MS; a great grandson, Nolan Reed Turner; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A committal service will be held on Saturday July 12, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Stanislaus Cemetery Chapel. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Fund, 50 Rt. 30 North, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to the Perth Volunteer Fire Department, Co. Hwy. 107, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Arrangements are by the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.
