George W. Hay
July 9, 2003
George W. Hay, 78, of Wall St., Amsterdam, passed away Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born in Cohoes, NY a son of George and Helen Chaput Hay Sr. He moved to Schenectady as a child and attended Schenectady Schools.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He took part in the invasion of Normandy and was part of the first wave of the landing. He received Three Bronze Stars.
After the war he lived in Schenectady until moving to Amsterdam in 1963. He was employed at the Watervliet Manufacturing Co. for a number of years. Mr. Hay was a member of the John J. Wyszomirski Post 701 in Amsterdam. He was also a member of the 40 et 8 and was a Past Chef De Gar and Past Shemino. He was also a Past Commander of the VFW Post 55 in Amsterdam and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 100. He was currently a member of the VFW Post 2077 in Gloversville.
He married Marie Paleen Hay in 1974. She passed away in 1981.
He was re-married to Hazel Eckert Hay in 1983.
In addition to his wife survivor's include one sister Mary LaMont of Buffalo, NY; nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2:30 PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. Brian Gould presiding. Interment is in Green Hill Cemetery in Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 1:30 to 2:30 PM prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the John J. Wyszomirski Post 701, West Main St., Amsterdam, NY 12010.

James C. Caputo
July 8, 2003
Mr. James C. Caputo, age 66, of Woodside Ave., Gloversville, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville.
He was born April 25, 1937 in Gloversville, the son of Patrick and Nellie Peretta Caputo. A 1955 graduate of Gloversville High School, he served in the Army National Guard from 1957 to 1960.
He was employed by Townsend Leather of Johnstown until his retirement last year.
Mr. Caputo was of catholic faith.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah A. Fagant and her husband Louie of Gloversville; son James P. Caputo and his wife Doreen of Johnstown; mother Nellie Caputo of Albany; brother, Richard Caputo and his wife Alice of Albany; sister, Linda Jarvis and her husband Robert of Loudonville. He cherished and worshiped his two grandchildren, Stacy L. May and Adam J. Caputo. Several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Friday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a prayer service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday with the Rev. Donald Czelusniak, pastor of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church officiating. Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.

Willis (Bill) Hall Jr,
July 11, 2003
Mr. Willis (Bill) Hall Jr., 64, of Gloversville, died Friday at Nathan Littauer Hospital. He was born in Gloversville on January 30, 1939, son of the late Willis and Elizabeth Billa Hall Sr. Bill was educated in Gloversville Schools and a 1956 graduate of Gloversville High School. He subsequently enlisted in the Navy, serving in an active and reserve duty. He was employed as a Bio Medical Supervisors at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital for 30 years, retiring in 2001.
An avid outdoorsman, Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his family. He was a member of the Church bowling League for 25 years, and also bowled with his wife Carol in the Lad's and Lassie's Bowling League for many years. He also greatly enjoyed golf, and was a member of Kingsboro Golf club. Earlier in his life he coached Pop Warner Football in Johnstown.
He was a member of the North Main Street United Methodist Church in Gloversville.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Scribner Hall, whom he married July 24, 1976. His children, Eva Mraz and her husband Aaron, and Tina Morey and her husband Jeff, both of Johnstown, Diane Hall of Gloversville, and Scott Rowe of Maryland; one brother, Robert Hall and his wife Elayne of Amsterdam; his grandchildren, Joshua (Guy) Mraz, Benjamin (Jake) Morey, Alysha (Al) Mraz, Amanda (Rosie) Morey, and Samuel (Luke) Morey, several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday 10am from the Kobuski-Konik Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker Street, Gloversville, with Reverend Christopher Hamm, Paster of North Main Street United Methodist Church officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday 2-4 and 6-9 pm at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.

Andrienne Hansen Swanker
July 8, 2003
Andrienne Hansen Swanker, 85, of Pensacola, Florida, died Tuesday July 8, 2003.
Mrs. Swanker was born August 22, 1917 in Amsterdam, New York to George Hansen and Mary McCleary Hansen. She attended and graduated from Wilbur Lynch High School in Amsterdam, New York then went on to attend Spencer business Institute. Mrs. Swanker loved sailing and was an honorary member of the Mayfield Yacht Club. She worked as a secretary for many different businesses retiring from Whiting Field in Pensacola, Florida.
Mrs. Swanker was a member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Amsterdam, New York.
Survivors include her daughter, Jahnn Gibson and husband David of Johnstown, NY; and granddaughter, Rebecca Gibson of Kings Park Long Island, NY.
Per Mrs. Swanker's wishes she will be cremated and a private service will be held at Fairview Cemetery at a later date.

Edward Fettinger
July 10, 2003
Mr. Edward J. Fettinger, 70, of Moyer Street, Canajoharie, died Thursday at home following a brief illness.
Born in the Town of Canajoharie on Oct. 10, 1932, he was the son of John and Marion Van Wie Fettinger. Mr. Fettinger was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, class of 1949 and attended Fulton-Montgomery Community College. He was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Fettinger was employed as a journeyman machinist in the Print Dept. at Beech-Nut Corp. for over 25 years. He was also a former deputy with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Dept. He was a former member of the Board of Appeals in Fort Plain; a member of the United Methodist Church, Fort Plain and a member of the 25-Year Club at Beech-Nut.
He married Marilyn Klock Fettinger in St. Johnsville on July 16, 1955. She died on Sept. 19, 1989.
Survivors include two sons, Mark E. Fettinger of Johnstown and Eric T. Fettinger of Gloversville; a daughter, Lisa F. Pezzolla of Knox; a sister, Lois Fettinger of Canajoharie; six grandchildren, Hannah and Emily Fettinger, both of Johnstown, Dana and Scott Fettinger, both of Gloversville and Destiny and Joseph Pezzolla, both of Knox.
A funeral service will be held on Monday at 12 p.m. at the chapel of Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home Inc., 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie with Rev. Carter Adriance officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at Fort Plain Cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Banewicz
July 11, 2003
Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" Banewicz, 77, of Stairs Road, Amsterdam, passed away Friday morning at home following a long illness.
She was born June 6, 1926 in Amsterdam, a daughter of the late Joseph and Antonia Slusarz Dybas. Educated in Amsterdam schools, she also attended Fulton-Montgomery Community College in Johnstown and was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Banewicz was employed by the New York State Dept. of Equalization and Assessment for several years before retiring. She was also a homemaker.
She was instrumental in the formation of Mary's Polka Band and played trumpet. She encouraged her grandchildren in music, resulting in the formation of Tony's Polka Band.
She was a member of St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church in Hagaman and its choir. She was also a member of the Horace Inman Seniors Choir and the F-MCC Choir. For many years, she participated in the Messiah at St. Ann's Church.
She was predeceased by a son, Raymond Banewicz and a brother, Joseph Dybas.
Survivors include her husband Edward Banewicz, whom she married on June 4, 1944; a daughter, Mary Panton (Joseph) of Amsterdam; seven sons, Edward Banewicz (Sharon) of Hagaman, Arthur Banewicz (Alyce) of Amsterdam, John Banewicz (Carol) of Cortland, Joseph Banewicz (Teresa) of Schenectady, Benjamin (Mary Ann) Banewicz of Glensfork, Ky., Anthony Banewicz (Marilyn) of Hagaman and Francis Banewicz (Lori) of Hagaman; 26 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lillian Borowski of Amsterdam; a brother, Raymond Dybas of California; nieces; nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held at 10:15 Tuesday morning at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen's Church, Hagaman. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Amsterdam.
Relatives and friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or St. Stephen's Church c/o the funeral home.

Kenneth Brown
July 11, 2003
Mr. Kenneth H. Brown, 66, of 248 Main St., a longtime resident of Pleasant Valley, passed away unexpectedly on Friday at Little Falls Hospital.
He was born in Sharon, Conn. on April 22, 1937, the son of the late Harry P. and Edna Demarst Brown. He attended schools there and graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School, Fall Village, Conn. with the Class of 1955.
Mr. Brown was employed as a work control manager for Wassaic Developmental Center, Wassaic for many years until his retirement in 1992. He was a longtime member of the Hudson Houndsman Association; he served as a UKC Master of Hounds throughout the Northeast, CSEA and served as an ASA umpire in the Hudson Valley.
Kenneth is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, K. Stephen and Emilie Brown of Fort Plain and Nathan C. and Tracie Brown of Chesapeake, Va.; a sister, Margaret Boyd of Lakeland, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Lana Brown of Millerton, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Paul Brown, Jacqueline Brown and Asher Brown; his nephew, Tim Brown of Rochester and several cousins.
His funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 9:30 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi and Burns Funeral Home, 239 S. Washington St., Herkimer with the V. Rev. Fr. Igor Burdikoff officiating. Interment will be in Salisbury Cemetery, Salisbury, Conn. on Wednesday morning at 11:30.
Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi and Burns Funeral Home.

William Bierman
July 12, 2003
William Bierman, 81, of Johnstown passed away Saturday morning at Nathan Littauer Hospital, after a brief illness.
Born in Richland, NY, on March 29, 1922 he was the son of John and Eva Oldenburg Bierman. He grew up in Amsterdam and was a 1940 graduate of Amsterdam High School.
Mr. Bierman was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. 8th Army Air Force, serving as a crew chief in the European Theatre from 1942 to 1945.
He was employed with the March Central Labs of Utica for many years as a chemical salesman.
Mr. Bierman was the scout master of the Tribes Hill Boy Scouts Troop 34, a member of the Order of the Arrow and was the Amsterdam District Commissioner of Scouting for many years. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Johnstown Lodge 1185 and was a member of the Tribes Hill United Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Hallam Bierman whom he married on March 10, 1945 in Leeds, England; a daughter, Linda Callahan and her husband, John of Gloversville; a sister, Mrs. Pat Timmons of Upland, CA; one granddaughter Erin Callahan of Nashua, NH; a grandson, Michael Callahan of Gloversville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are private and under the direction of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY.
There will be no calling hours.
Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill, NY.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tribes Hill United Presbyterian Church, Mohawk Drive, Tribes Hill, NY 12177.

Dorothy Cooper
July 13, 2003
Mrs. Dorothy Slowakiewicz Cooper, age 79, of State Highway 29, Gloversville, died Sunday morning, July 13, 2003 at Nathan Littauer Nursing home, Gloversville.
She was born June 4, 1924 in the city of Amsterdam, the daughter of John and Mary Knapik Slowakiewicz. She grew up on the family farm in Mill Point and graduated from Amsterdam High School in 1940. She also graduated from the State University College of Agriculture and Home Economics at Cobleskill, NY. She was employed at the Greer School in Millbrook, NY and at the Buffalo Deaconess Hospital before moving to her current address. She was employed as a glove sewer at home and at various glove companies in the Fulton County.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the convenience of the family at St. Joseph's Church, Broadalbin.
Interment will take place at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Health Center, Inc., 2 W. Main Street, Johnstown, NY 12095, or Nathan Littauer Nursing Home, 99 E. State Street, Gloversville, NY 12078.
Arrangements are by Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main Street, Broadalbin.

Wanda M. Dybas
July 12, 2003
Mrs. Wanda M. Dybas, 80, formerly of Vrooman Avenue and most recently of the Amsterdam Hi-Rise died Saturday evening at St. Mary's Hospital.
She was born August 16, 1922 in Providence, Rhode Island and came to Amsterdam as a young girl.
Educated locally, she was a 1940 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. She was also a graduate of the former Amsterdam City Hospital School of Nursing and received her Registered Nurse Degree there.
She was employed at Amsterdam City Hospital as a nurse. Later, she was a caseworker at the Montgomery County Department of Social Services in Fonda, NY until retiring.
She was a member of St Stanislaus Church. She was also a member of the Alumni of Amsterdam City Hospital.
She was predeceased by her sons, Joseph A. Dybas Jr. in 1963 and John J. Dybas in 1997.
She was married to Joseph A. Dybas Sr. on August 6, 1949. He died October 7, 1990.
Survivors include, one brother, Alfonso Jakszta, Hillsborough, New Jersey; one nephew, John Jakszta, Flemington, New Jersey; one niece, Susan Korzenowski, Bethlehem, PA; and one great niece, Melissa Korzenowski, Sayreville, New Jersey.
The funeral service will be held 8:30 Wednesday morning at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 o'clock at the Church of St. John the Baptist.
Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.
Calling hours are 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 385 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham, NY 12110, GAVAC or St. John the Baptist Church in c/o the funeral home.

Matthew J. Famularo
July 13, 2003
Matthew J. Famularo, 38, of Glen Terrace, Glenville, passed away peacefully Sunday morning at his home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Amsterdam on July 30, 1964, a son of Salvatore and the late Virginia Ross Famularo, he was a 1982 graduate of Burnt Hills Ballston lake High school.
Matt attended Schenectady Community College and was employed as a corrections officer and deputy for the Schenectady County Sheriff's department for a number of years. He was also self employed contractor. He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Glenville.
His loving family includes his father Salvatore Famularo of Glenville; his brothers, Mark and his wife, Debra Famularo of Latham, and David Famularo of Suffern; sisters, Mary Margaret McNichols and Linda Famularo both of Rhode Island; his uncle Dominic and his wife Nancy Famularo of Glenville and many cousins. also surviving is his fiance, Charlotte Willams to whom he was to be married this year.
Services are Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street.
Interment is in the family plot in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308, to whom the family is most grateful for their assistance.
