Richard A. "Ozzie" Osborn
July 19, 2003
Mr. Richard A. "Ozzie" Osborn 68, 0f Highland Terrace, Fort Plain, died Saturday, July 91, 2003 at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
Ozzie treasured every day this last year and did it with much courage and a sense of humor.
He was born on November 29, 1934 in Fort Plain, NY a son of Adelbert and Ethel Wells Osborn.
Mr. Osborn was educated at Fort Plain high School.
Mr. Osborn was most recently employed as a supervisor of the dietary department at Montgomery Meadows in Amsterdam. He was a former owner of Ozzie's News Room in Fort Plain until 1990. He retired in November 2002.
Mr. Osborn was a life long area resident.
He served as a Track Vehicle Mechanic in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959.
Mr. Osborn was of the Methodist faith.
He enjoyed watching horse races and football.
Ozzie benefited from the United Network of Organ Sharing.
He was married on June 8, 1957 in Fort Plain, NY to LaVerna Hoke Osborn. She predeceased him on July 15, 1999.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Andrea L. and Joseph Mancini of Fonda, NY and his loving grandchildren, Christopher and Cara Mancini of Fonda; one sister and brother-in-law, Nona and Gene Becker, of Fort plain, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins, several aunts and uncles.
Mr. Osborn was predeceased by one son, Rick Osborn i n 1992 and two brothers, William and Lester Osborn.
At Ozzie's requests, funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Ozzie's memory, may make memorial contributions to; Mended Heart Inc., Chapter 310, c/o Barb Ellinson, 97 West Broadway, Salem, New York, 12865 or to Fonda-Fultonville Football Backers, c/o FFCS, 112 Old Johnstown Road, Fonda, NY 12068.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY.

Eleanor H. Horigan
July 21, 2003
Mrs. Eleanor H. Horigan, 71, of Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam died Monday evening at her home.
Born on August 8, 1931 in Amsterdam, NY she was the daughter of Lewis and Melville Harrower. She was a lifelong area resident, attended local schools and went on to graduate from Pine Manor College in Massachusetts.
Mrs. Horigan was a member of St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary, and the Antler's Country Club. She was also very active with the Amsterdam Free Library Festival of Trees, was an avid gardener and skier and loved spending time with her family.
Mrs. Horigan was a daily communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.
She was predeceased in 1960 by her first husband, Peter H. Smeallie. Mrs. Horigan was also predeceased by a brother, Harold Harrower.
Survivors include her husband, Attorney Richard T. Horigan whom she married in 1979; five sons, James Donald Smeallie of Beverly, MA, Peter, John and Shawn Smeallie all of Alexandria, VA and Christopher Smeallie of Amsterdam, NY; a daughter, Melanie Mbuyi of Alexandria, VA; a brother, Lewis Harrower of Sarasota, FL; three step sons, Timothy J. Horigan of Galway, NY, Richard T. Horigan Jr. of W. Hartford, CT, and James Donald Horigan of Beverly Hills, CA; four step daughters, Agnes Baker of Winchester, MA, Mary Catherine Horigan of Cumberland, ME, Christine Kaledin of Niskayuna, NY and Hanna Horigan of Portland, ME; 30 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, East Main Street, Amsterdam with Rev. James Gulley officiating.
Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson.
Calling hours are Wednesday from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or St. Mary's Foundation, 425 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Francis B. "Fred" Guzielek
July 21, 2003
Francis B. "Fred" Guzielek, 72, of Pine Avenue, Johnstown died Monday, July 21, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a long illness.
He was born July 15, 1931 in Amsterdam the son of Francis and Evelyn DeForest Guzielek.
Mr. Guzielek was a graduate from St. Mary's Institute, Amsterdam in 1949. He then went on to graduated form the University of Tampa in 1959 with a Degree in Physical Education. He served in the US Army during WWII from 1951-1952.
Mr. Guzielek taught and coached basketball for St. Mary's High School in Little Falls then came to Johnstown and taught in the Johnstown school system and coached basketball for three years retiring in 1986. He then substituted in area schools.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Johnstown and a member of the Johnstown Eagles.
He also enjoyed all sports and traveling.
He married Theresa Zaklukiewicz on October 25, 1952 whom survives.
Survivors also include his sons, Fred Guzielek and his wife, Marcia of Johnstown, Charles Guzielek and his wife, Linda of Mechanicville, and William Guzielek and his wife, Dorothy of Johnstown; a sister, Ann Lipert of Amsterdam and nine grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Johnstown with Rev. Patrick Iannotti as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson.
Calling hours are Wednesday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher Street, Johnstown.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to JAVAC or the Johnstown Library.

Julius J. Alexander
July 21, 2003
Julius J. Alexander, 88, formerly of Prospect Street, Tribes Hill, died Monday evening at the Edward Wilkinson Health Care Facility after a long illness.
He was born in Amsterdam on December 9, 1914 and was the son of Antonio and Mary Zappone Alexander.
He was employed with Mohawk Carpet Mills as an inspector for 37 years and later in the shipping department of GE, retiring in 1977.
Mr. Alexander attended Amsterdam schools and was a life long area resident.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church of Tribes Hill.
He was married to Celia Agusta. She died in 1988.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ann Craig of Perth; two grandchildren, Timothy Craig of Amsterdam and Tracy Craig of Fonda, New York; also six great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church of Tribes Hill at a later date.
There will be no calling hours and burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church of Tribes Hill or to a charity of one's choice.

John W. Quinn
July 16, 2003
John W. Quinn, 66, of Rock City Road, Rock City Falls, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003.
Born July 25, 1936 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Mark and Florence Pepper Quinn.
John had been employed by Lockheed-Martin at the West Milton Kesseiring Site.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-58.
A cowboy at heart, he was a lifelong member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy's Association.
Survivors include a son, Shawn Quinn and his wife, Amy, of Schuylerville; a stepdaughter, Kim Brunelle and her husband, Tim, of Schuylerville; two brothers, James Quinn and his wife, Marilyn, of Amsterdam, and twin brother, Lewis Quinn of Rock City Falls; two grandchildren, Madison and Sydney Quinn; and nephews, Mark, Michael, Gary and James Quinn; and a niece, Kelly Quinn.
Funeral services were held July 21, 2003.
Interment was in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville with military honors.
Memorials in John's name may be to Community Hospice of Saratoga, Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

Herman J. Altieri
July 22, 2003
Herman J. Altieri, 85, of 68 St. Paul Street, Amsterdam, died Tuesday at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, after a long illness.
Born in Amsterdam on July 4, 1918, he was the son of Anthony and Anna Conti Altieri.
Mr. Altieri was a graduate of Amsterdam High School. In 1935 and 1936, he served with the Civilian Conservation Corps in New Jersey and Delaware. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Army Forces in the Pacific in the 618th Ordnance Battalion in the Philippines and Borneo. His wartime decorations include the Philippines Liberation Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and the WWII Victory medal.
Following the war, Mr. Altieri was employed by the Gas Turbine Division, General Electric Company, Schenectady, until his retirement. He was a life-long member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine (Mancini) of Amsterdam; his son, Richard Altieri and wife Jeanne of Alexandria, Virginia; his granddaughter Janice Lambeth and husband James of Alexandria, Virginia; his grandson, Peter Altieri and wife Carolyn, of Northfield, MN, and five grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mrs. Alice Chiricko and brother, Richard, both of Amsterdam.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday from DeStefano Funeral Home, Rt. 5S, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church.
Interment will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions on behalf of Mr. Altieri may be made to the American Lung Association.

Edward A. Etzkorn
July 21, 2003
Edward A. Etzkorn, 85, died at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, Monday, July 21, 2003.
He was born in Rozelle Park, NJ, the son of the late Edward and Mary Givens Etzkorn. He was a graduate of Fordham University, in New York with a BS in Accounting. Before moving to Delmar, he had resided in Fultonville and Long Island.
Ed was employed by Tri-Arts Press in New York City for 27 years and after retirement he and his wife operated the cafeteria at the Auriesville Shrine for ten years. He had been a member of the Army Aircorp during WWII. He was a communicant and active participant at St. Thomas the Apostle in Delmar.
He is survived by his precious wife of more than sixty years, Emily Fagan Etzkorn; seven children, Dr. Edward R. Etzkorn and his wife, Van of Fountain Valley, CA, Dr. Eugene T. Etzkorn and wife, Letty of Tacoma, WA, William G. Etzkorn and his wife, Wendy of Hurricane, WV, Robert J. Etzkorn and his wife, Doreen of Fonda, NY, Dr. Eloise Potenza and her husband, Vince of Delmar, Dr. Eileen Monuszko and her husband, Jim of Vero Beach, FL, and Dr. Emily Etzkorn and her husband, Jerry LaMori of Amsterdam, NY; a sister, Jeannine Salter of Freeport, NY; and sixteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, William and Robert and three sisters, Evelyn, Eileen and Dorothy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Delmar.
Relatives and friends are invited to call Thursday 4:00 to 7:00p.m. at the Tebbutt Funeral Home, 420 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar.
The family would like to thank the Delmar Rescue Squad, especially Phil and Schuyler, for all their efforts over the past few years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Delmar Volunteer Ambulance Co., 145 Adams Street, Delmar, NY 12054 or the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, 35 Adams Place, Delmar, NY 12054.
