Frank J. St. John, 84, of Wall Street, Amsterdam, passed away Friday August 1, 2003 at Montgomery Meadows Residential Health Care Facility.
Born in Amsterdam of July 11, 1919 a son of Frank and mary Danucci St. John. He was a lifelong are resident and attended local schools.
Mr. St. John was a U.S. Army Veteran from 1939 to 1940. He later was in the Army National Guard in the 105th Infantry. He was employed for many years at the Wood and Hyde Company in Gloversville before retiring.
He was of the Roman Catholic Faith.
He is survived by a daughter, Dawn Maine Alexander of Wisconsin; one sister, Mary Augilera of Gloversville, NY; four grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A Graveside Committal Service will be held today (Thursday) at 2:00 p.m. at the Fairview Cemetery in Amsterdam.
There are no calling hours.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.

David Haithwaite

David E. Haithwaite, 71, of Springfield, Mass., passed away Tuesday at Bayside State Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 5, 1932 in Amsterdam, the son of William and Irene Whitbeck Haithwaite. He was a graduate of Wilber H. Lynch High School, St. Lawrence University and received his M.B.A. from Cornell University.
He was employed at General Electric in Schenectady and Cluett Peabody Shirt Co. of Troy. In 1961, he moved to Springfield, Mass. and was employed by Mass Mutual Insurance Co. as a group pension consultant for many years.
He was of the Methodist faith.
Mr. Haithwaite was in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He enjoyed gardening, music, reading and watching all kinds of sports events.
Survivors include his sister, Doris M. Votry and her husband, Ned of Amsterdam; a niece, Susan Votry-Kundich of Waterford, Wis.; two grand nieces, Karrie Anne and Katherine and his good friend, Carol Quinn of Westfield, Mass.
Funeral services and interment are private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam. There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Michael A. "Trixie" Morrell

Michael A. "Trixie" Morrell, 62, of the High Rise Apartments, passed away Sunday morning at St. Mary's Hospital following a long illness.
Born in Amsterdam on August 16, 1940, a son of William and Catherine Casso Morrell, he was a lifelong resident and attended local schools. Trixie was employed as a printer for a time, and later tended bar for Liber's Tavern and Pink & Rock, later for Post 701 where he also was in the maintenance department.
He was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion.
His loving family includes his daughter, Deborah A. her husband Alexander "Sandy" Roginski of Amsterdam; his brothers, William (Patricia) Morrell of Titusville, Fla, and Robert J. (Linda) Morrell Sr. of Amsterdam; his sister Barbara Baker of Amsterdam, as well as nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and cousins.
Services are Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue. The Very Rev. James J. Gulley. officiating.
Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home where the Sons of the Legion of Post 701 will conduct a service at 6:30 p.m.
The family requests that contributions be made in his memory to the Community Hospice of Amsterdam, Manny Corners Road, Amsterdam, NY 12010 to whom they are most grateful for his care.
Timothy D. Mochrie

Timothy D. Mochrie, 36 of Kawkawlin, Michigan, passed away August 9, 2003 following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Saginaw, Michigan to Robert and Joanne (Jo Stetkiewicz) Mochrie on August 26, 1966. He was the grandson of Catherine and Kenneth Mochrie and Edmund and Eleanor Stetkiewicz.
Robert B. Whitford

Robert B. Whitford, 78 of Canajoharie and a long time Dolgeville resident, passed away on Saturday August 9, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, NY.
He was born July 28, 1925 in the Town of Oppenheim, the son of the late George and Florence (Looman) Whitford. Robert attended Little Falls High School and served his country in the United States Army, Company B, 343rd, Engineer General Service Regiment from November 9,1943 and was discharged on May 3, 1946 with the rank of Technician Fifth Grade. He served for 18 months in the European Theatre of Operations.
He was first married to Leta Lawson on February 1, 1947 who preceded him in death, on July 18, 1996. He was later married to Mary G. Loring on October 11, 1997 in Albany.
Robert was last employed as Superintendent of Highways for the Town of Manhiem from 1971 until his retirement in 1986. At one time he worked at North Hudson Wood Craft and the General Electric Company.
Mr. Whitford was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of the Dolgeville VFW and the Fort Plain VFW and was a member of the Association of Superintendents of Highways in Herkimer County.
In addition to his devoted wife, Mary; he is survived by his loving daughter, SandraSue Hoyle and husband James of Little Falls; his grandchildren, Andrew Hoyle, Daniel Hoyle, Mary Hoyle and Sarah Hoyle all of Colorado; a sister, Eleanor Lawson of Ilion; a sister-in-law, Martha Whitford and her companion Adrian Clark; a brother-in-law, Dominick Lapone; and several nieces, nephews grand nieces and grand nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Jean Whitford, a brother, Olin Whitford, a sister-in-law, Susie Lapone and a brother-in-law, Charles Lawson.
In keeping with Bob's wishes cremation will take place under the direction of the Roberts-Buck Funeral Home, 3 Faville Avenue, Dolgeville, NY.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday August 14, 2003 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Memorial services will be held on Friday August 15, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at Stratford Rural Cemetery.

William Manion

William Manion, 70, of Stratton Apartments, Amsterdam, passed away Saturday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on March 26, 1933, he was a son of Kenneth and Evelyn Green Manion.
Mr. Manion received his education at St. Mary's Institute, Amsterdam, and was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School.
Mr. Manion was employed at The Recorder and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Mr. Manion is survived by four sisters, Peggy Lucido of Royersford, PA., Evelyn Muscato and Mary Carol Burtt both of Amsterdam, NY, and Anne Mae Grennen of New Brunswick, NJ; nieces and nephews also survive,
Mr. Manion was predeceased by his brother, Robert Manion in 1991.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 at St. Mary's Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam.
Calling hours will be Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 at the mortuary.
Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial gifts in Mr. Manion's name may be made to the American Lung Association of Northeastern New York, 3 Winners Circle, Suite 300, Albany, NY or the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY both 12205.
Victoria Kryzak Barzyk

Victoria Kryzak Barzyk, 88, passed away Monday morning at Wesley Health Care Center, Saratoga Springs, NY.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on November 11, 1914, she was a daughter of Michael and Freda Cisek Kryzak.
Mrs. Barzyk received her education in the Amsterdam school system and was employed by the General Electric Company, Schenectady, and retired as a finisher from the former Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Company, Amsterdam.
Mrs. Barzyk was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Church, Amsterdam.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Barzyk.
Mrs. Barzyk is survived by two daughters Joan Alouf and her husband, Fred of Roanoke, VA., and Andrea Bublak of Amsterdam, NY; one brother, Thomas Kryzak of Schenectady, NY; five sisters, Lillian Tenney of Saratoga Springs, NY, Ann Korona of Roanoke, VA., Sophie Korona of Amsterdam, NY, Helen DeSorbo and her husband, Alfonse of Englewood, FL., and Dorothy Glimm of Austin, TX.; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning 8:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY, followed at 9:00 by a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at St. Stanislaus Church, Amsterdam, NY.
Interment will be at St. John's Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call Wednesday morning from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
Dr. Jere J. Hallenbeck

Dr. Jere J. Hallenbeck, 62, of Jamesville, died Saturday at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse.
Born in Little Falls, Jere was the son of Howard F. Hallenbeck and Gladys May Mosher. His former wife, Carole E. Smith, predeceased him.
Jere was founder and president of National Aquatic Service, Inc., in Syracuse.
Surviving are one sister, Jean H. Brockley of Altamont; two brothers, Howard C. of Syracuse and Jack E. of Lairdsville and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph' s Church in Camillus. Entombment will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum, St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
Arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home, Inc., 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
Albert John Rutauskas

Mr. Albert John Rutauskas, 78, of Reid Street, Amsterdam, NY passed away Monday morning at St. Mary's Hospital.
He was born April 18, 1925 in Minersville, PA a son of the late Michael and Veronica Rutauskas. Educated in Pennsylvania, he came to Amsterdam, NY in 1948 and resided in the area since.
He was employed by the Noteworthy Company in Amsterdam, NY for several years before retiring.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary Ellen Smith, Caroga Lake, NY and Linda Rutauskas, Lake City, Florida; one son, Vincent Rutauskas, Caroga Lake, NY; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and his companion, Mary L. Schrum, Amsterdam, NY.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
Interment will be in Rockwood Cemetery, Rockwood, NY.
There are no calling hours.
Arrangements are by the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, Amsterdam, NY.
Mabel Ross

Mabel Ross, 75, of Stratton Apartments, entered into eternal life at 1:50 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2003
Mabel was born May 4, 1928 in Saranac Lake, NY. She is survived by her son, Clinton Leggett and his wife Judy of Utica, NY; her daughter, Dolly Leggett of Chadwicks, NY; her brother, Lloyd Landry of Bennington, VT; two grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Leggett; her two special friends, Margie Bedell of Gloversville and Edith DeFredas of Castleton, NY, and her cat, Ozzie.
Mabel was very involved in organizing and participating in several of the March of Dimes fund raisers, and enjoyed working at the walk-a-thons. She served on the Board of the Residential Committee of Liberty Montgomery County ARC. Was an avid speaker at staff orientations for new employees, was very involved in the Stratton Seniors Activities, Liberty Seniors Club, was very instrumental in raising money for the S.P.C.A. in Amsterdam, and made many gifts for the Cranesville Youth Commission.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m. today at St. Mary's Church Chapel, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam.
Friends and staff may call today from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Chapel.
Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Castleton, NY.
Carol Mina Mickels
August 11, 2003
Carol Mina Mickels, 65 of Division Street, Amsterdam passed away Monday morning at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.
Born in Amsterdam on April 9, 1938 a daughter of George and Lillian Luke Argersinger. She was a lifelong area resident and was a 1956 Graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam.
She was employed at various mills in Amsterdam and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Pocahantus Lodge of Amsterdam.
Mrs. Mickels was of the Protestant Faith.
She was married to William A. Mickels. He passed away in June of 2001.
Survivors include two sons, Mark W. Mickels of Amsterdam and John D. "Micks" Mickels and his wife Valerie of the Town of Florida; three sisters, Katherine Argersinger of Amsterdam, Janet Aldinger of Duanesburg, and Alice Hillman of Gloversville; three dear grandchildren, Joshua and Jonathan Mickels and Danielle Mickels Pacillo all of the Town of Florida; one great granddaughter, Lynxzie Marie Mickels; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.
Interment will be in Maple Avenue Cemetery in Fultonville, NY.
The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday beginning at 12 noon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Albany, NY 12211.
