Josephine Anna Ford, 88, formerly of East Main Street, Fonda, NY and most recently a resident of the Teresian House in Albany, passed away Monday evening at Albany Memorial Hospital.
Born in Scotia, NY on October 10, 1942 a daughter of Dominic and Theresa Angelillo Compani. She was a lifelong Fonda area resident and attended local schools.
Mrs. Ford was a homemaker. She worked for a time at the Fonda Knitting Mills.
She was a communicant of St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church in Fonda. She was a member of the church's Altar Rosary Society, the Catholic Daughters of America and worked on various committees of the church. Mrs. Ford was also a member of the Fonda-Fultonville PTA for a time.
She was very active in collecting for the American Heart Association's Heart Fund Drives for many years
She married John R. Ford on October 10, 1942, he passed away on June 12, 1999.
Survivors include one son, Joseph R. Ford and his wife Karen of Fonda, NY; three daughters, Teresa Campochiaro and her husband Robert of Scotia, NY, Roberta J. Young and her husband Ralph of Latham, NY, Barbara A. James and her husband David of Clifton Park, NY; four cherished grandchildren, Michelle McLaughlin and her husband Scott; Kelly Wilder and husband James; Kristy Ford and Michael Campochiaro and his wife Elizabeth; two beloved great grandchildren, Joseph and Jillian Wilder; three sisters-in-law, Shirley Compani, Myrtle Wemple and Edith Colson; nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Mrs. Ford was predeceased by two brothers, Patrick Compani in 1985 and Stephen D. Compani in 1998; and one sister, Anna C, Compani in 1918.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 9:00 a.m. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church, Fonda.
Interment will be in St. Cecilia's Cemetery, Fonda.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Cecilia's Church, 26 Broadway, Fonda, NY 12068; the American Heart Association Fund and the American Cancer Society both in c/o the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY 12072.
Elizabeth J. Cole

Mrs. Elizabeth J. Cole, 91, of Folts Home, Herkimer, NY, formerly of Arkell Hall, Canajoharie died Sunday, September 21, 2003 at Little Falls Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born October 12, 1911 in Manchester, CT a daughter of William and Letitia Mullen Johnston.
Mrs. Cole was a graduate of Manchester High School, Class of 1929.
Mrs. Cole was most recently employed as a secretary at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, Connecticut. Prior to that, she worked for Burr Nurseries. She retired in 1975.
Mrs. Cole was a local area resident for the past five years previously she had resided in Winterhaven, Florida for three years and Manchester, CT.
She was a lifelong member of the Salvation Army of Manchester, CT and also a 60 year member of the Salvation Army Choir and taught Sunday school, she also was a 25 Year Member of the League of Mercy.
She was married to Ernest L. Cole, he died on February 16, 1974.
Survivors include one son, Rev, Wayne Cole, Nelliston, NY; one sisters, Evelyn Pallein, Manchester, CT; three granddaughters, Katheryn Gadoury, Florida, Linda Grego, Connecticut, and Mary-Elizabeth Cole, Nelliston, NY; three grandsons, Robert Cole, Florida, Bryan Cole, Florida, and Seth N. Cole, Nelliston, NY; several great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Cole was predeceased by two sons, Robert E. Cole and Barry J. Cole and one grandson, Joshua B. Cole on May 18, 1990.
A 7:00 p.m. Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at the Grace Congregational Church, 20 Center Street, St. Johnsville, NY with her son the Rev. Wayne Cole officiating..
A 1;00 p.m. Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, September 25 at the East Cemetery in Manchester, Connecticut.
Memorial gifts may be sent in memory of Mrs. Cole to the Salvation Army in c/o Rev. Wayne Cole, P.O. Box 89, Palatine Bridge, NY 13428.
Mrs. Anna E. Rakstis

Mrs. Anna E. Rakstis 90, of Brookside Avenue, Amsterdam, died Monday evening at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.
Born May 27, 1913 in Amsterdam, She was the daughter of John and Anna Butis Raila.
She was a life long resident and attended St. Mary's Institute.
Mrs. Rakstis was employed by Mohawk Mills and later Consolidated Novelty until retiring in 1975.
She was a communicant of St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.
Mrs. Rakstis was a devoted mother, always had high spirits, was a very hard worker, loved gardening and care giving.
She was married on August 27, 1933 to Charles J. Rakstis who died in 1994. She was also predeceased by a son Charles W. Rakstis who died in 1967.
She is survived by her loving family; a son John F. Rakstis of Amsterdam; a sister Frances Luzinas of Amsterdam; five grandchildren, Susan, Mary Lou, Charles, John and Christina; five great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 8:45 AM at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, New York.
Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30 AM at St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church, East Main Street, Amsterdam. Burial will take place in St. Casimir's Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the St. Casimir's Church Memorial Fund.
Leah Rose Myers
September 21, 2003
Lean Rose Myers, age 60, of Honeywell Corners Road, Broadalbin, died Sunday morning September 21, 2003 at home following a long battle with cancer.
She was born in Dayton, Ohio on July 3, 1943 a daughter of Loran J. and Rose Marie Polokovics Heys and attended school in Ohio. She lived in Quantico, VA for a time where she was to meet her future husband. She moved to Scotia and later to Hagaman.
In 1968, Mrs. Myers moved to Broadalbin. Upon retirement, she enjoyed spending winters in Lake Wales, FL.
Mrs. Myers was employed at the former Myzal's Market in Broadalbin. She later worked at Amsterdam Print & Litho. Mrs. Myers was employed as a bus driver and aide with the Broadalbin-Perth School District, retiring in December 1994.
She was a member of the Broadalbin United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school at one time.
Mrs. Myers was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Broadalbin, and served as treasurer several years ago.
She enjoyed playing bingo but was most content spending time with her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Frederick Heys.
Survivors include her husband, Robert C. Myers, Sr. whom she married in Washington, D.C. on July 28, 1962; three sons, Robert C. Myers Jr. and his wife Sheri of Lake Wales, FL, William P. Myers and his companion Angel Miller of Rotterdam, and Joseph L. Myers and his wife Deandra of South Glens Falls; a very special niece and husband, Cindy and Donald McClarren of Broadalbin; a special niece and her husband, Cindy and Donald McClarren of Broadalbin; a special nephew, Adam Kronour of Cucamonga, CA; five brothers, James Heys, Alan Heys, Edward Heys, Loran Heys Jr. all of Dayton, OH; and John Heys of Saugas, CA; a sister, Darnella Abrams of Cucamonga, CA; eight grandchildren, Amber, Courtney, Christopher, Ashley, Robert, Nathaniel, Matthew, and Noah; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation was performed at the Parkview Crematorium, Schenectady.
A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at the Broadalbin United Methodist Church, 67 North Main Street with the Rev. John Chesney and the Rev. R.W. Williams co-officiating.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Mountain Valley Hospice in care of the funeral home.
Arrangements are by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home. Inc., 38 West Main Street, Broadalbin.
Ethel E. Smith

Ethel E. (Bungie) Smith entered into eternal rest on September 21, 2003,
Ethel E. Smith, wife of Frank L. Smith Jr. formerly of Amsterdam. She had been residing in South Carolina the past five years.
The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith Jr. are invited to attend the funeral services of the latter in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, Thursday morning, September 25, 2003 at 11:00 o'clock.
Interment will be private.
Friends may call at Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel Thursday morning from 10:00 o'clock until time of service.
Ethel was born in Middleburg, New York, July 20, 1936, the daughter of Howard and Jenny Slater.
She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Diane Plummer of Laurel, Del. and Michelle A. Forbes of Amsterdam, NY; six sons, Frank J. Smith III and John E. Smith of Charleston, SC, Alan J. Smith, Timothy R., Smith, and Brian D. Smith all of Amsterdam, NY, and Joseph E. Smith of Fonda, NY; three brothers, Harold Slater and Donald Slater of Randall, NY, and Roger Slater of Perryville, Arkansas; one sister, Louise Phillips of Amsterdam, NY; 14 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association of SC, Coastal Branch, 1941 Savage Road, Suite 200A, Charleston, SC 29407.
The family of Ethel Smith would like to express their gratitude to Hospice of Charleston for all their support these past months.
Esther Ceterski

Esther Ceterski, 85, died Monday, September 8, 2003 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Esther Irene Curtis was born April 10, 1918 at Thief River Falls, MN to Jon Emil and Ingeborg (Gausen) Curtis.
Moving to Baudette as an infant she grew up in Baudette, graduating from Baudette High School in 1935. During her high school years she enjoyed clerking in her father's drugstore.
She attended the University of Minnesota and the Minneapolis School of Business.
She married Dr. Victor Ceterski on April 5, 1942 at Minneapolis. During the war years she worked as a stenographer in the office of the U.S. Surgeon General in Washington, D.C. from 1942 to 1946. After her husband's discharge from the Army they lived in Amsterdam, NY where he had a dental practice. He died in 1968. Returning to Minnesota in 1962 she worked as a bookkeeper for Curtis Rexall Drug. In 1985 she moved to Moorhead where she resided with her son, John, until her death.
Esther is survived by two sons, John, Moorhead, Minnesota and Tom (Martha) Iron Mountain, Michigan; one daughter, Dorothy, Red Lake, Minnesota and two grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Verna (Vince) Peck, Oakland, California, and one brother, Carl (Helen) Curtis of Baudette, Minnesota; a brother-in-law, Jack Ceterski and a sister-in-law, Gertrude Ceterski both of Amsterdam.
Edward W. Lockrow

Mr. Edward W. Lockrow, age 86, of County Highway 110, Broadalbin, died Friday, September 26, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam.
He was born September 7, 1917 in Gloversville, the son of Russell and Alida Williamson Lockrow. He was a proud 1936 graduate of Broadalbin High School, and later served his country in the Navy during World War II.
Mr. Lockrow was employed by General Electric Company in Schenectady for most of his life, retiring there as an inspector in the turbine division. He was a member of the Broadalbin American Legion Post #337, the G.E. Quarter Century Club, and a former member of the Broadalbin Baptist Church.
His main interests include the Town of Broadalbin where he served as Town Justice from 1956 until 1984. He was a member of the State Magistrates Association and the Fulton-Hamilton Magistrates Association.
He loved spending time on his boat, and was a life-member of the Sacandaga Boat Club.
He also was a photographer, avid fisherman, and a Saratoga Raceway fan.
Mr. Lockrow is survived by his wife, Doris Smith Simmons Lockrow of Broadalbin; daughter, Carol Andersen of Penn Yan, NY; granddaughter, Julie Andersen; stepdaughter, Carol Sherman, Midlothain, NY; stepson, Robert Close and his wife, Cathie of Ballston Lake; brother-in-law, Harold Smith of Ocala, FL; six step grandchildren, and five step great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife E. Hatherine Lockrow in 1994.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main Street, Broadalbin.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church of Broadalbin with the Rev. Paul R. Moyer officiating.
Interment will take place at Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 54 W. Main Street, Broadalbin, or the Broadalbin Volunteer Ambulance Corps, P.O. Box 23, Broadalbin, NY 12025.
Marisa Elena Ramirez
Marisa Elena Ramirez, 7, of Rotterdam, formerly of Amsterdam, died at Ronald McDonald House in Albany.
Marisa attended St. Pius X School in Albany and played intramural soccer.
She is survived by her loving parents, Jose and Anna Ramirez; one brother, Estaban Ramirez; two sisters, Melina E. Ramirez and Marisol E. Ramirez. She is also survived by grandparents, one aunt, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 2635 Balltown Road, Niskayuna.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday evening 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam.
The family would like memorial donations be made to Andrew's Warriors, 24 Duncan Lane, Troy, NY 12182.
Virginia C. Richardson Lackmayer

Mrs. Virginia C. Richardson Lackmayer, age 76, of Third Street, Gloversville, died Sunday morning, September 28, 2003 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville.
She was born January 16, 1927 in Gloversville, the daughter of George Sr. and Ellen Schrum Richardson. She was a member of Fremont Street United Methodist Church, Gloversville.
On December 14, 1969 she married Kenneth M. Lackmayer, who died December 7, 2002.
She is survived by four children, Larry Gray of Cortland, NY, Robert Gray of Amsterdam, and Stephen Gray and Martha Wilson of Gloversville; a sister, Dorothy Calhoun of Gloversville; 15 grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Catherine Ann Gray, and by a brother, William Richardson.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. today (Monday) at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Inc., 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Wayne E. Jones Sr. officiating.
Interment will take place at King-Northampton Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211.
Dorothy Peech
September 26, 2003
Miss Dorothy Jean Peech, 79, formerly of Catherine Street, Amsterdam, died Friday afternoon at Park Hill Adult Home.
Born on April 6, 1924 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Frank and Apolonia Slezak Piech. She attended Amsterdam schools.
In 1959, she moved to California, where she was employed as a tec for the Hewett Packard Co. in Palo Alto, Calif. She returned to Amsterdam in 1988.
Miss Peech enjoyed many sports, including skiing, golfing, swimming and speed skating. She also liked to play cards, especially bridge. Miss Peech was a member of the Century Club in Amsterdam. She also was a member of St. Stanislaus Church.
She is survived by three brothers, Edward Piech of Amsterdam, Raymond Piech of Broadalbin and Florida and William Piech of Eureka, Calif.; three sisters, Stella Gegzna, Eleanor Wills and Betty Piech, all of Amsterdam; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Miss Peech was predeceased by four sisters, Mary Cichy, Helen Jaracz, Lottie Kiuber and Edna Taylor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. Stanislaus Church.
Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Donations may be made in Miss Peech's memory to St. Stanislaus Church, the Park Hill Adult Home or Hospice of Amsterdam.
Arrangements are by the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place, Amsterdam.
