Concetta Nicosia
Born in Amsterdam, New York on Jan. 30, 1915
At Rest Nov. 7, 2007 and resided in Amsterdam, NY.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007

Mrs. Concetta Nicosia, 92, formerly of St. John Street, Amsterdam, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, November 7, 2007.

Born on January 30, 1915 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of the late Libero and Giovannia Marcucci Viscusi. Mrs. Nicosia worked as a seamstress at the former Montco Company. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church. She also was a member of the Christian Women and the Inman Seniors.

Her loving family includes her husband, Benedetto Nicosia; three daughters, Louise Drozic of Amsterdam, Joanne Belev and her husband George of Scotia and Monica Kaiser and her husband Robert of Amsterdam; one brother, Anthony Viscusi of Syracuse; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Louise Cipullo and her brothers, Gary and Dominick Viscusi.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at 11:15a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, St. John Street, Amsterdam with the Rev. Lawrence Decker as celebrant. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.

George B. Bergh, Sr.
Born in Cobleskill, New York on Jan. 22, 1943
At Rest Nov. 7, 2007 and resided in Amsterdam, NY.

George B. Bergh Sr., 64, of Cochrane St, Amsterdam, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday November 7, 2007 at his home.
Born January 22, 1943 a son of Abraham and Mary Teabout Bergh. He was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and was a 1961 Graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam.
Mr. Bergh was employed for many years at Sofco Co. in Amsterdam. He later worked for several years at Hill & Markes in Amsterdam as a salesman before his retirement.
George was an avid bowler in various leagues in Amsterdam and was currently a bowler at the Imperial Bowling Center in Amsterdam in the mixed nuts league.
George is survived by his wife Joanne E. Bergh of Amsterdam, Two sons, George B. Bergh Jr. (Millicent) of Syracuse, NY, Darren R. Bergh (Lisa) of Amsterdam, one daughter, Kristine Pennick (Anthony) of Amsterdam, NY. One Brother, Richard Bergh of Amsterdam, two sisters, Mary Janet Bergh of Amsterdam and Marcia Buckman of Albany, NY. Eight grandchildren, Mickiel Bergh, Seth Bergh, Julia Presley, Arianne Pennick, Deshawn Bergh, Mackenzie Pennick, Ryan Bergh and Kory Bergh. Two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Devon Bergh. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was predeceased by one sister Isabelle Bergh.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 10, 2007 at 2:00P.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with the Rev. R.W. Williams presiding. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday November 10, 2007 beginning at 1:00P.M. prior to the funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 7 Washington Square, Albany, NY 12205 or to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.

Jacquelyn Ann Yurkewecz
Born in Amsterdam, New York on Nov. 11, 1929
At Rest Nov. 8, 2007 and resided in Fultonville, NY.

Mrs. Jacquelyn Ann Yurkewecz of State Highway 30A, Fultonville, passed away November 8, 2007 at the North East Center for Special Care.

Born in Amsterdam, NY she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Myra Whitbeck Van Alstyne. She was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of the former Fultonville High School.

Jacquelyn worked for 25 years for the Town of Glen as an assessor and owned and operated “Jackie” A. Yurkewecz Realty. Jackie loved her community and enjoyed working with her neighbors.

Jacquelyn was a faithful member of the Fonda Fultonville United Methodist Church where she also served as a Sunday school teacher. She also enjoyed being a 4-H leader, and working with children.

Jackie, along with her husband, owned and operated Spring Hill Farms. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and homemaker. She will be missed by all who knew her.

On April 29, 1950 she was united in marriage to William G. Yurkewecz Sr. That union lasted 57 years, until his recent passing on June 24, 2007. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Teri Lee and her brother, Robert Van Alstyne

Her loving family includes, three daughters, Bonnie Couture (Michael) of Fultonville, Melanie Gessinger (Raymond) of Fultonville, Jody Yurkewecz of South Carolina; two sons, William G. Yurkewecz Jr. (Cindy Boyer) and Randy Yurkewecz, all of Fultonville; 11 grandchildren, Justin (Connie), Jarred, Joshua (Ashley), Seth, Bethany, Eli, Zoey, Tori, William III, Samantha, Charles; 3 great grandchildren, Tyler, Nikolas, Natalia; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Jacquelyn’s request there are no calling hours or funeral services. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the Fonda- Fultonville United Methodist Church, Sunday School, in care of the funeral home.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville.

Nancy J. Seitz
Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on Aug. 10, 1947
At Rest Nov. 2, 2007 and resided in Amsterdam, NY.

Nancy Seitz, 60, of Woodrow Road passed away on Friday, November 2, 2007 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam. She was born in Elizabeth, NJ on August 10, 1947 a daughter of the late Chester and Ruth (Maloney) Staples. Nancy was raised and attended schools in New Jersey. She was of Protestant faith and married Roger Seitz in Edison, NJ on June 17, 1967, he predeceased her in June of 2000.

Nancy previously worked as a telephone operator for Contel in Johnstown and as a daycare provider in the area. She was a communicant of the Faith, Hope and Love Church in Canajoharie where she often looked forward to attending services. In her childhood years, Nancy had a passion for music, having sung in the school choir, and very much enjoyed dancing. As years passed, Nancy still enjoyed music very much, spending time with her family and friends, and always helping those in need.

Her loving family includes her son, Jeffrey Seitz of Amsterdam; two sisters, Susan (Don) McLean of Fonda and Linda (Louis) Donaruma of Satellite Beach, FL; and four brothers, Peter (Patty) Staples of Edison, NJ, William Staples of Highland Park, NJ, David (Lisa) Staples of Ilion, and Timothy (Amy) Staples of Ft. Plain. Several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00AM on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to services on Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00AM. Interment will follow cremation at a later date.

Ruth E. Harris
Born in Fultonville, New York on Apr. 16, 1915
At Rest Nov. 6, 2007 and resided in Amsterdam, NY.

Ruth E. Harris, 92, of Tryon St. Amsterdam, passed away November 6, 2007 at the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam.
Born in Fultonville, NY on April 16, 1915 a daughter of Ivan and Bessie Hiam Haskin. She was a graduate of Tonawanda High School Class of 1934. She was a resident of Fredonia, NY for 14 years until moving to Saratoga, NY in 1961. Mrs. Harris later moved to Amsterdam, NY in 1996. She was employed as a clerk at Leech’s Toy Store, and worked as a secretary at the First Presbyterian Church and the YMCA office all while in Fredonia, NY.
Mrs. Harris taught religious education and was very active in the First Presbyterian Church in Fredonia, NY.
She married Elmer W. Harris on May 5th 1938. He passed away on January 2, 2000.
Survivors include two sons, David Harris (Carol) of Gilroy CA and Steven Harris (Patricia) of Amsterdam. Four Grandchildren, David Harris Jr., Nancy Harris, Steven Harris Jr. and Maria Harris. Four great grandchildren, Kimberly, Kristina, Victoria and Brandon Harris. Nieces and cousins also survive. Ruth was predeceased by her grandson Thomas Harris and a sister, Elizabeth Shutes.
Funeral Services are private. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Montgomery County, 1 Kimball St., Amsterdam, NY 12010.

David A. Dority
Born in Camden, Maine on Jul. 25, 1945
At Rest Oct. 25, 2007 and resided in Amsterdam, NY.

Service: Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007

David A. Dority, 62, of Crescent Avenue, Amsterdam, died Thursday, October 25, 2007 at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Born on July 25, 1945 in Camden, Maine he was the son of the late Earl and Doris Bennett Dority. He was educated and raised in Maine before moving to Amsterdam in 2001.

David was employed for U.S. Corrugated in Amsterdam as a supervisor. He enjoyed working and being around his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved to remodel his home, and being on the computer. He was an avid Red Sox and enjoyed NASCAR. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

His is survived by his wife, Bonnie Dority, whom he married on June 13, 1981; two daughters, Meagan Goff and her husband Darek of Oak Hill, NY and Melissa Brooks of Steuben, Maine; a brother, Ralph Dority and his wife Mary Lou of Carroltown, Texas; five grandchildren, Danielle, Tylar, Amanda, Hailey and Natalie; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a close family friend, Leroy Dodge and his wife Pat of Lincolnville Beach, Maine.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Helen Raschaeck and Howard Dority.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a legacy candle ceremony and celebration of life on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at 11a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, P.O. Box 91840, Santa Barbara, CA 93190 or www.marf.org.
