Carmen Mercedes Rosado, 91, of Forbes Street, passed into the arms of her Lord on Saturday evening at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Teresa Hrycaj, 87, of Coolidge Road, passed away peacefully Wednesday noon at her home, with family at her side.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 29, 2008, at 8:30 am, at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, at 9:15 am, Father John Medwid, celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery. Calling Hours will be Sunday, September 28, 2008, from 2 to 5 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church or St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
Vaughn J. Zemken

Vaughn J. Zemken, 51, of Riverview Drive, Niskayuna passed away Tuesday at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany after a long illness.
Born December 3, 1956 in Amsterdam, NY. He was the son of Josephine Crockett Zemken and the late Helmet Zemken. He was a graduate of Canajoharie High School Class of 1974. Vaughn was first employed by Continental Mills in Gloversville, a hardware finisher for Carriage House in Sprakers and last he worked as a transporter for Budget Car Rental Company at the Albany Airport and retired in 1998 due to ill health.
He was a former parishioner of St. Helen's Roman Catholic Church in Niskayuna and is a parishioner of the Church of St. Ambrose in Latham. He was a former member of the Rural Grove Fire Department and is a member of the NRA and the Watervliet Fish and Game Club. He loved fishing and hunting and loved singing country western for various bands in the area. He loved history and anything pertaining to submarine warfare and very knowledgeable regarding the Titanic.
Survivors include his mother, Josephine Zemken Mulligan and step-father Paul Mulligan of Niskayuna. His grandmother; Jeannette Crockett of Gloversville; three brothers; Pete Zemken of Johnstown, Ron Zemken of Amsterdam and John Zemken and (Cynthia) of Latham; a sister, Rachael Zemken of Niskayuna and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a great nephew also survive.
Vaughn was predeceased by a brother Dennis Zemken who passed away in 1976.
A private graveside memorial service will be held on Friday the 19th at 1:30 pm, for family and close friends, at Maple Avenue Cemetery in Fultonville. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Vaughn's memory to the American Diabetes Association, 7 Washington Square, Albany, NY 12205.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY.
Edna Tarnowski
Edna Tarnowski, 89, of Brookside Avenue passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born in Amstedam February 8, 1919 a daughter of the late Sylvester and Nellie Polinski Alisauski.
Edna grew up on her family's farm and attended area schools. She was proud of taking a large role in the upbringing of her siblings in earlier years. She was of Roman Catholic faith and was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church. She married Stanley Tarnowski on February 19, 1937 at St. Stephen's Church in Hagaman, he predeceased her on August 3, 1985. Edna enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading and spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters.
Her loving family includes her daughter, Lillian Barone of Amsterdam, her son William Tarnowski of Amsterdam, her granddaughters, Serena Barone and Theresa (Alex) Barone-Lopez, her great-grandchildren, Tia, Jacob and Zoe Orlosky and Victoria Lilly, Juliana and Anthony Barone-Lopez, and her sisters, Amelia Jablonski, Bernice Vitus, and Theresa (Valentine) Kerbelis. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins also survive.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Edna was predeceased by two brothers, Francis and John Alisauski, three sisters, Florence Eaton, Frances McCoski and Martha Barejka, and her son-in-law, Anthony Barone.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 19, 2008 at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, Reid Street, Amsterdam with Fr. David Mickiewicz as celebrant. The Catholic Rite of Committal will follow in the parish cemetery. Contributions in Edna's memory may be made to the Montgomery County SPCA, PO Box 484, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or the Amsterdam Free Library, 28 Church Street, Amsterdam. Arrangements have been entrusted to Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home in Amsterdam.
Charles E. "Chuck" Gillis, Sr.

Charles "Chuck" E. Gillis, Sr., 75, of East Lykers Road, passed away Saturday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital with his loving family at his side.
Born August 14, 1933 in Amsterdam, New York he was the son of the late Edgar V. and Bessie Seeley Gillis. He lived most of his life in Amsterdam until moving to Sprakers eight years ago. Chuck was a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School and he also attended University of Southern California for training as a U.S. Air-force mechanic.
Chuck was a U.S. Air-Force Veteran of the Korean War where he served with the 6516th Flight Line Maintenance Squadron.
He was employed by General Electric Company in Schenectady for 25 years in the Micro Tube Department until retiring in 1993.
Chuck was a former member of the AMVETS and was a former coach for the AMVETS baseball team. He was also a former Scout Master for Troop 23 at Trinity Reformed Church. He was a member and past president of the Iroquois Seniors and a member of the Christian Church at the Charleston 4 Corners in Sprakers.
Chuck was an avid Yankees and NY Giants fan.
On September 18, 1955 he married the former Joyce Bellows.
Besides his wife Chuck is survived by two sons, Clifford F. Gillis (Carmella) and Charles E. Gillis Jr. (Doreen) all of Amsterdam; two daughters, Laura A. Kauhane (John) of Honolulu, Hawaii and Sharon E. LaPort (Rob) of Sprakers; a brother, Robert P. Gillis of Tribes Hill; two sisters, Betty Cole of Gloversville and Delores Fitzdam of Tribes Hill; twelve grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Chuck was also predeceased by a brother Edward G. Gillis and a sister Marjorie J. Langdon.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2008, at 11:00 AM at the Christian Church at Charleston 4 Corners in Sprakers with the Rev. Bret Popp officiating. Cremation will take place at Vale Crematory in Schenectady. A calling hour will be held on Thursday from 10 to 11 AM at the Church.
Memorial contributions may be made in Chuck's memory to the Christian church at the Charleston 4 Corners, Sprakers, NY 12166.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.
