At Rest Jul. 21, 2010 and resided in Fort Plain, NY.

Mrs. Lucy M. Ponzi, 84, of Crouse Street, Fort Plain, NY died peacefully on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the Palatine Nursing Home. Born in Canajoharie, NY on December 13, 1925 she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Paluzzi Conti.

A lifelong area resident, Lucy attended local schools and was the owner of the Boulevard Tavern in Canajoharie for many years. She also worked at Beech- Nut for a short time. Lucy loved to cook and was known for her homemade spaghetti. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her husband, Louis Ponzi; and her siblings, Dominic Conti, Josephine Russell, Theresa Weegar and Rose Conti.

Survivors include her devoted daughter, Barbara Wilder and her husband Richard of Fort Plain, NY; three grandchildren, Richard Wilder, Gregory Wilder, Sr. and Gina Wilder; two great grandchildren, Gregory Jr. and Cheyenne; two sisters, Loretta Pryor of Canajoharie, NY and Catherine Putman of Virginia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 11 o'clock at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, 115 Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY with the Rev. James E. Clark as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Peter's & Paul's Cemetery, Canajoharie, NY. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday morning from 9 until 10 o'clock at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home; where her arrangements have been entrusted.

Dorothy "Dottie" R. Ambroz
Born in Manhattan, New York on Nov. 29, 1925
At Rest Aug. 15, 2010 and resided in Charleston, NY.

Dorothy (Dottie) R. Ambroz, 84, of Goewey Road, Charleston, NY died Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after surgery complications with her family at her side.

Born in Manhattan, NY on November 29th, 1925, Dottie married Bernard J. Ambroz. In the late 70s, they bought property in Charleston, NY where they built their very first house and lived there until both their deaths. They were married 49 years before Barney's untimely death in July 1996. Dottie's son, Charlie, temporarily resided with her in Charleston and died at the young age of 52 in June 2002.

Survivors include her son, Wayne (Deborah) of Charleston, her daughter, Nancy of Tribes Hill as well as eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, dogs, reading, sewing and woodworking. She was always a giving and trusting person and never hesitated to help family when they were in need.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, August 18th at 11 am at Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Montgomery County SPCA, Sprakers Animal Shelter or any charity of your choice.

Julia A. Hazzard
Born in Amsterdam, NY on Aug. 12, 2010

Mrs. Julia A. Hazzard, 44, of Flat Creek Road, Sprakers, NY died peacefully Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville following a brief illness. Born on November 19, 1965 she was the daughter of John and Donna Wilson.

A lifelong area resident, Julie attended Canajoharie Schools and was a member of the Boiling Pot Eagles #3846. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her parents Joanna Paula Wilson and Donna Sharp.

Survivors include her husband, Everett E. Hazzard; her sister, Anna Elizabeth Wilson; nieces and nephews, Butch and Rene Hazzard and Cheryl and Jim Brownell; a step daughter, Christine Nettles; and many cousins.

A Service of Remembrance will take place graveside on Monday, August 16, 2010 at 10 o'clock at the Canajoharie Falls Cemetery in Canajoharie. At Julie's request there are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Boiling Pot Eagles in care of the funeral home office.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.

Sadie I. Kenna
Born in Amsterdam, New York on Apr. 9, 1914
At Rest Aug. 12, 2010 and resided in Amsterdam, NY.

Sadie I. Kenna 96, of the Hillcrest Springs Adult Home, passed away peacefully Thursday evening at St. Mary's Hospital with family at her side.
Born in Amsterdam April 9, 1914, she was the last surviving daughter of the late John and Stella Miscauskas Samolis. A lifelong city resident, she attended local schools. Sadie worked for Mohawk Carpet Mills for a time, and later at St. Mary's Hospital where she served as a nurse's aide. Extremely dedicated to her profession, she was well known for her diligence and kindness to patients and their families. Her devout Catholic faith poured out to all she met along her long life's journey.
Sadie was a parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Secular Third Order of St. Francis. She and her late husband Ken were the proprietors of the former Stone Jug Antique Shop in Fort Johnson for a number of years. Sadie was predeceased by her parents, her first husband Vernon Ruska, her second husband Kenneth Kenna and sisters Regina Maksym and Virginia Belfance.
Her loving family includes her niece, Edwina Maksym, nephew Vernon Colditz; brother in law Rudy Colditz; step daughter Sheila (Jim) Wheeler; grandchildren; Rick (Ronda) Morey, Mark (Cathy) Morey, Deanna (Stu) Palczak; great grandchildren; Rick, Rob, Reanna Michelle, Angelina, Aubriella, Tiffany, McKenna and Jake; a great great granddaughter Aurora.
Services are Monday at 10:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church. Fr. John Medwid, celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Casimir's Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 1-3 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Sadie's name to St. Mary's Hospital Foundation in care of the funeral home office.

Margaret M. VanSchaick
Born in Brooklyn, NY on Jan. 25, 1914

Margaret M. VanSchaick, 96, of Main Street Fultonville, passed away Thursday morning at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam, with her loving family at her side.

Born January 25, 1914 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Edward H. and Catherine O’Leary Brown. Margaret was a graduate of Ridgewood High School in Ridgewood, New Jersey. She moved to the Fultonville/Charleston area in 1944.

Margaret was employed for a short time at the Amsterdam Print & Litho Company. She lived in the village of Fultonville since 1948 and she owned and operated the The Cloisterie for 25 years until 1980.

A very devoted member of the Fonda-Fultonville United Methodist Church, Margaret served as treasurer until four years ago. She was also a member of the Christian Women’s Group of the church and worked very hard throughout the years at all of the bake sales, church dinners and functions.

Margaret loved oil and watercolor painting, sewing, wallpapering, redecorating and restoring old houses.

On March 21, 1935, she married Herbert C. Matteson, who passed away in 1972. She later married Ervin VanSchaick on December 5, 1983, he passed away in 1996.

Survivors include two sons Mark A. Matteson and his wife Victoria of Canajoharie and Charles H. Matteson and his wife Sharon of Mount Gilead, NC; four grandchildren Ronald Matteson, Charles Matteson, Gilbert Matteson and Daniel Matteson; five great grandchildren Cheyenne, Grayson, Matthew, Mark and Ronald and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held Monday August 16, 2010 at 10:00 am at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY. Interment will follow in Maple Avenue Cemetery in Fultonville. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Fonda-Fultonville United Methodist Church.
