Dominic J. DeMaria, formerly of Amsterdam, NY passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on July 30, 2010 in Port Richey, Florida after a brief illness. Born February 9, 1929 he was the son of the late Jerolome and Teresa DeMaria.
Dominic served proudly with the United States Navy as a Seaman, 1st Class in WWII aboard the USS Tedius. He received the Victory and the Good Conduct Metal. He worked for Longview Fibre Co. and was a trouble shooter for the paper industry for more than 50 years, retiring in 1997.
Mr. DeMaria was a member of the Catholic War Vets bowling league for many years. He was also a member of the city softball league. Dominic was an avid New York Giants and New York Yankees Fan. Following retirement, he moved to Florida where he has resided ever since. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was predeceased by his late wife, Stella DeMaria; a son, Michael DeMaria; a brother, Thomas DeMaria; his mother in law, Marge Darmstadt; and brother in law, Joey Messina.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Darmstadt DeMaria, of Port Richey, Florida; his sons, John (Denise) DePhillips, Anthony (Tony) DeMaria, Jerry (Harpo) DeMaria; and his daughter, Teresa (Bruce) Bottisti, all of Amsterdam, NY. He is also survived by his father in law, Merritt Darmstadt; a brother in law Michael Darmstadt; two sisters in law, Sandy Messina and Helen DeMaria; 22 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Service of Remembrance will take place on Monday, August 16, 2010 at 9:30a.m. at the Cemetery Chapel of St. Michael the Archangel, Cemetery Road, Amsterdam, NY with Fr. Pascal Iannotti officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church or the charity of one's choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
Ethel Yates
Born in Amsterdam, New York on Oct. 5, 1912

Ethel Perfetti Yates 97, formerly of the Hi-Rise Apartments, passed away peacefully Friday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility.
Born in Amsterdam on Oct. 5, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Augusto and Maria Bellardini Perfetti. Educated locally, she lived here her entire life. During World War II, she was employed by the General Electric Company for several years. A home maker, she was a devoted communicant of Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church. Ethel remained keen of mind to the end and was always considerate of others.
Her beloved husband, Milton Yates predeceased her on November 10, 1972.
She leaves dear friends Dorothy Bombard and Amy Kondrat and their family as well as nieces and nephews.
The Mass Of Christian Burial will be offered Monday at 9:15 am at Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church by Fr. Pascal A. Iannotti. Interment is in the parish cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited. It was Ethel's request that there be no calling hours and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel Church.
Marylin P. Bylina

Marylin P. Bylina, 77, of Jonathan Lane, Amsterdam died peacefully on August 9, 2010 at home following a valiant battle with cancer. Born in Amsterdam on January 1, 1933 she was the daughter of the late William and Angeline Palamara Gahr.
A lifelong city resident, Marylin was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School and worked for Breton Industries as a supervisor for 27 years, retiring in 1990. She also was a homemaker and was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling and sewing. She also was a Republican Election Commissioner for Montgomery County and school board elections. Above all, she loved her family and spending time with them. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Her family includes her husband of 59 years, Peter P. Bylina, Jr.; two daughters, Kathleen Izzano and her husband James of Amsterdam, NY and Pauline Dominiak of Amsterdam, NY; one son, Peter W. Bylina and his wife Christina of Bennington, VT; six grandchildren, James Izzano, Marleen Izzano, Lauren Dominiak, Lynae Dominiak, Sophie Bylina, and Carly Bylina. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Marylin was predeceased by her brother William Gahr.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 9:15a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Lawrence J. Decker as celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 from 4 until 7p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam where her arrangements have been entrusted. Memorial contributions may be made in Marylin's memory to Community Hospice of Amsterdam or Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in care of the funeral home office.
Katherine "Katie" Young

Katherine "Katie" Young, 29, of Cliff Street, died unexpectedly Saturday, August 7, 2010 at her home. She was born in Amsterdam October 14, 1980 a daughter of David C. and Rosemary (Field) Reese of Canajoharie.
Katie enjoyed playing softball and basketball, horseback riding and music. Her greatest joy, however, was being a devoted mom to her loving daughter.
In addition to her parents, Katie's loving family includes her daughter Michelle Reese of Canajoharie, her husband Stephen Young of Canajoharie, her grandmother Margaret Siegle of Palatine, her sister Andrea Swain of Margate, FL, her brother Carl W. Reese of Sprakers, her mother-in-law and father-in-law Charlotte and Harry Young of Palatine Bridge and her godmother Marie Smith of Ft. Plain. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral Services will be at 3:00PM on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie, NY 13317 with Pastor Zach LaBagh, officiating.
The family will receive relatives and friends prior to services on Thursday from 2:00 to 3:00PM at the funeral home.
William Frey

Mr. William Frey, 85, of Phillips St., Amsterdam, passed away Saturday morning August 7, 2010 at his home with his family at his side.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on September 13, 1924 he was a son of Carl and Marion Green Frey. He was a life long area resident and was a graduate of Amsterdam High School.
Mr. Frey was first employed as the lumber manager in building 106 at the Scotia Naval Depot. He later was the co-owner of the former Murray�s Service Station on Guy Park Ave in Amsterdam for over 30 years. He last worked for Slezak Petroleum in Amsterdam and retired in 1987.
William was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving stateside. He was a member of the John J. Wyszomirski American Legion Post 701 in Amsterdam and was a former member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #101 in Amsterdam. He was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.
He married Constance Gambardella Frey on April 11, 1948. She passed away on August 19, 2005.
Survivors include one son, Mark V. Frey (Douglas Vogel) of Seattle, Washington. One daughter, Nancy D. Mattas (John) of Amsterdam. One sister, Linda Holt of Broadalbin. Five grandchildren, Constance Ziskin (David), C. William Staley (Carola), Sara Mattas, Hanna Vogel Frey, and Rebecca Vogel Frey. Five great-grandchildren, Andrew and Emily Hastings, Tommy Ziskin, Mia and Aidan Staley. A sister-in-law, Rae Soulla. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. William was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur Frey, one sister Betty DeHart and brother-in-law Steve Soulla.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday August 10, 2010 at 7:00P.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with Father Robert O. DeMartinis presiding. Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Amsterdam with full military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday evening August 10, 2010 prior to the funeral service from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny Corners Rd., Amsterdam, NY 12010.
John Douglas Pond

John Douglas Pond, 62, a former resident of the Perth-Amsterdam area, died on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C.
He was born on February 20, 1948 to parents John Walter Pond and Martha Button Pond in Wellsboro, Pa. He is survived by wife, Judith Ann Hildberandt Pond, of Calabash, N.C.; son, Jeremy Daniel Pond, of Las Vegas, NV; and, daughter, Jana Katherine Tierney (Thomas), of Manchester, CT. He adored his only grandchild, Cora Jude Tierney. He is also survived by sisters, Jill Mears and Joy Versetti, both of South Carolina; brother, James Pond, of Florida., and several nieces and nephews.
He worked as a funeral director early in his career in the Amsterdam-Gloversville area. He was a decorated veteran of the United States Army, earning a Silver Star, four Bronze Star medals and the Army Commendation Medal during his tour of duty in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1970. At John's request, funeral services will be private.
