Marion E. Hughes, 94, formerly of Francis Street, passed away peacefully Saturday evening at the Edward L. Wilkinson R.H.C. Facility.
Born in Broadalbin, NY on April 5, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Pearlia Dopp MacVean. Educated locally, she lived here her entire life. Marion worked as an office clerk for The General Electric Company and later for the Mohawk Carpet Mills. She retired as an aide for the Sanford Home for Elderly Women. Marion was a member of the United Methodist Church and it's women's group.
On Dec. 27, 1940, she was united in marriage to Robert J. Hughes Jr. He predeceased her on Dec. 1, 1977. Her son, Robert "Bucky" Hughes III also predeceased her.
She leaves her brothers, Clarence R. MacVean and Arthur C. MacVean both of Johnstown, and Donald B. MacVean of Amsterdam; a sister, Ruth A. Beyer of Vails Mills as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her siblings who also have passed away were Clement "Mike", Percy "Tink" D., Robert R., H.Ross, and Charles J. MacVean, Hazel A. Brownell, Thelma I. Lester and Grace I. Everest.
A service will take place 11:00 am Friday, Sept. 30th at the United Methodist Church, Golf Course Road, the Rev. Greg DeSalvatore officiating. Interment will follow in the Hagaman Mills Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 10 am Friday before the service at the church. Memorials may be made in Marion's name to the United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home office. Her family has entrusted her care to the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam 12010.

Norman L. Bowne
Born in Ozone Park, Long Island, New York on Dec. 1, 1921
At Rest Sep. 24, 2011 and resided in Amsterdam, NY.

Norman L. Bowne, 89, of Wall Street, passed away Saturday morning at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after being stricken at home on Thursday.

Born December 1, 1921 in Ozone Park, Long Island, New York, he was the son of the late Langford John and Elizabeth Huber Bowne. Norman lived most of his life in Cobleskill, NY. He was a graduate of Saugerties High School of 1942 and later he graduated from State University of NY at Cobleskill, with an Associate’s Degree in Agriculture.

Norman was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He served as a Surgical Technician and Combat Medic in Central Europe, Northern France, and the Rhineland.

Norman was employed as a Dairy Inspector for Dairy Lee, Borden and last as a Dairy Products Specialist for the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets.

He was a parishioner of St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Amsterdam. Norman enjoyed woodworking, reading and his computer.

On June 17, 1943 he married the former Marjorie Fake. Besides his wife of 68 years of marriage, he is survived by a daughter, Judy Furman (Richard) of Fort Johnson, NY; two granddaughters, Melissa Metzger of Amsterdam and Jennifer Smith (Col. Dennis, U.S. Army) of Carlisle, PA; five great grandchildren, Christopher, Owen, Sam, Jack and Natalie; several nieces and nephews survive.

Norman was predeceased by a son, Jeffery Bowne who passed away on May 3, 2000.

A memorial service will be held on Friday at 11:00am at the St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Corner of Pine and Division Streets, Amsterdam with the Rev. Dr. John Califano officiating. Burial of Norman’s cremated remains will take place in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery, Friday, September 30, 2011 at 1:00pm, with Military Honors. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made in Norman’s memory to St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 24 Pine Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 615 East Main Street, Cobleskill, NY 12043.

Catherine Mason
Born in Cleveland, Ohio on Jan. 19, 1931
At Rest Sep. 24, 2011 and resided in Palatine Bridge, NY.

Mrs. Catherine Mason, 80, formerly of Floral Avenue, Canajoharie, NY died on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown following a brief illness.

Born on January 19, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio she was the daughter of the late George and Anna Sakelious. Catherine was of the Christian faith who believed whole heartedly in the bonds of family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her 9 children: Russell (Judy) Mason, Rich (Pat) Mason, Ronald Mason, Randall Mason, Roger (Rachael) Mason, Susan (Larry) Carpenter, Sandra (David) Williams, Sharon (William) Zinzow and Sheila Mason; the father of her children, Russell Mason; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by four siblings.

Funeral services will be conducted Today, Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 1 o'clock at Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with the Rev. Nancy Ryan presiding. Interment will follow in the Fort Plain Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call prior to the service beginning at 11 o'clock at the funeral home. Contributions in Catherine's memory may be made to Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance, who helped her extensively throughout her life.

Erastus Corning Davis, III
Born in Albany, NY on Jan. 7, 1920

Erastus Corning Davis III, 91, of Fonda passed away on September 16, 2011, at the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility. He was born in Albany, NY on January 7, 1920, a son of the late Erastus Corning and Blanche Robinson Davis, Jr.
He attended Albany Public school, Boys Academy and graduated from Miline School in 1938. Shortly thereafter he became the proprietor of Davis News in Fonda and entered the insurance business. He was a WWII Veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps in the North Africa and Foggia, Italy with the 96th Squadron, Second bombardment group for thirty months. Sgt. Davis was awarded twelve battle stars. Upon his return stateside, Erastus was employed for many years at the General Electric Company, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing bridge, going to the flat track, dining at Saltsman's and watching the NY Yankees. He was a member of the Fonda Reformed Church where he formerly served on the Consistory and American Legion Post 701.
Mr. Davis married Lois Nesbitt on August 15, 1942. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his sons Douglas (Norma) Davis of Albany and James Davis of Fonda, a daughter Lydia (Anthony, Jr.) Cacace of Canton, MI. Cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth (Javier), Cassandra and Anthony Cacace, Jr.; beloved great grandchildren Nathaniel and Angelina; a special niece and nephew Sharon (Jim) Gebhardt and John Nesbitt. He is predeceased by a brother, Joel Robinson Davis.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 1 PM at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street in Fultonville, NY 12072 with Rev. Joshua Baron presiding. The family will be receiving relatives and friends at 11 AM preceding the funeral service. Cremation will take place at Vale Cemetery Crematorium; burial will take place at the convenience of the family at Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Fonda Reformed Church, Window Fund or a charity of ones choice in care of the funeral home office.

Sharon L. Wheaton
Born in Amsterdam, New York on Jan. 23, 1953
At Rest Oct. 21, 2011 and resided in Perth, NY.

Sharon L. Wheaton, 58, of County Highway 107, passed away peacefully on Friday at the Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.

Born January 23, 1953 in Amsterdam, New York she was the daughter of Amelia Rust Wheaton and the late Robert Wheaton. She attended Amsterdam Schools and was a life long area resident.

Sharon was employed by Target Distribution Center on 5S in the Town of Florida until retiring in 2010 due to ill health. She was a NASCAR fan and never missed a televised race.

Survivors include her mother Amelia "Mimi" Rust Wheaton of Perth, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her father Robert Rust who passed away in 1976 and her sister Linda Richardson who passed away in 1991.

It was the request of Sharon that there be no funeral service. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, from 5 to 7 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY. Cremation will take place on Thursday at the Vale Crematory in Schenectady.

Nancy N. Bogan

Nancy N. Bogan, 47, of Amsterdam, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, following a long illness.

Nancy was born on March 30, 1964 in New Hartford, the daughter of Terrence and Doris (White) Nicholson. She was a graduate of Clinton High School, St. John Fisher College and Albany Law School. She was employed at the law firm of Thorn and Gershon, Albany before retiring due to illness. On August 7, 1993 she married Jerome Bogan at St. Barbara's Chapel, Caroga Lake.

Nancy was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Amsterdam, the Amsterdam PTA, a supporter of the American Cancer Society and the Susan B. Komen for the Cure.

Nancy was passionate with everything she believed in and did. She was a "super" mom, wife, daughter, sister, granddaughter and friend. She loved spending time with her family and friends at Caroga, always thinking of new ways to make camp a little better. That was how she approached life, always trying to make things a little better for everyone else.

She is survived by her loving family, her husband, Jerry, her son and pride and joy, Ben, her parents, Terry and Dori, her brothers, Stephen (Tori Lapointe) Nicholson of Plattsburgh, NY, John Nicholson of Utica, Brother & Sisters In-law, Tom (Debbie) Bogan of Hamilton; John Bogan of Clinton; Patrice Bogan of Utica; Elizabeth (Dave) Eaton of Cleveland, OH; Jim (Heather) Bogan of Chapel Hill, NC; Roberto Belmonte of Feurabush, NY. Nancy was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Mary De Belmonte earlier this year.

Friends and relatives are invited to call from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Annunciation Parish, 7616 East South St., Clark Mills, NY.

Nancy's family requests that in lieu of flowers, remembrances in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
