Mariano "Chickie" Duchessi, 73, of Amsterdam, passed away early Saturday morning October 29, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam following a long illness.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on January 26, 1938 a son of the late William and Domenica LoGuidice Duchessi. He attended Amsterdam Schools and went on to attend college at The Citadel Military College in South Carolina before transferring to the University of Maryland.
Mariano was a career U.S. Air Force Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He retired after 27 years of Active Duty service. He was stationed in Dover Delaware, Rhode Island and overseas in Germany for a time.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.
He is survived by his wife Mary Williamson Duchessi. Two children, William and Sharon Duchessi of Sacremento, California. Two grandchildren, William and Gabrielle.
Several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins also survive.
"Chickie" as he was affectionately referred to by his friends and family bravely confronted whatever life threw his way. He never stopped smiling and truly enjoyed his life to the very end.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday November 5, 2011 at 9:15AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, St. John St., Amsterdam, NY. Burial of cremated remains will be in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Amsterdam. Arrangements are under the direction of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church Cemetery Fund c/o the funeral home.

Stephen E. Mochrie, Jr.
Born in Amsterdam, New York on Feb. 24, 1956
At Rest Oct. 28, 2011 and resided in Amsterdam, NY.

Mr. Stephen E. Mochrie, Jr., 55 years old, of Harvard Avenue, died Friday at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born February 24, 1956 in Amsterdam, a son of Stephen and Frances Trzaskos Mochrie, Sr., and was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam. Mr. Mochrie was a graduate of the former Wilber H. Lynch High School. He had been employed as a machine operator with the Amsterdam Printing Co. for many years. Mr. Mochrie was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. He enjoyed bowling and playing golf.
Survivors in addition to his mother of Sarasota, Florida are his wife: the former Donna E. Playford; two brothers: Douglas Mochrie of Sarasota, Florida and Darryl P. Mochrie of Westchester, Ohio; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 10:00am Tuesday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, with Fr. John Medwid officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends Monday from 4 until 7:00pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made: St. Mary's Church, 156 E. Main Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Mary Anne Becker
Born in Amsterdam, NY on Jan. 25, 1954

Mary Anne Green Becker, 57, of York Street in Fultonville passed away on October 26, 2011 at Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville after a long illness, her loving family by her side.
Born in Amsterdam on January 25, 1954 she was the daughter of the Walter Sr. and Mattie Green, both of Amsterdam. She was educated in the Amsterdam Schools. Mary was a home health aid for several years, she then worked at Faulk Industries where she retired due to her failing health. She was a former member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
On March 9, 1972 she was married to Milton A. Becker. They shared a beautiful union of 39 years. She is also survived by her Daughters Laurie(David), Missy(Chuck) and Penny(Rick) and sons, Milton and Danny; grand children, Sandy, Marky, Joshua, Zachary, Kaleb, Charles, David, Kaytie, Kaylee, Danny, Daniel, Michael, Tomas, Jordan, Dillian, Giavonna, and a great grandson Leon. She is also survived by her loving and caring sisters Lil (Steve), Cora (Scott), Emily (Mel) and Ruth who were there for her every step of the way throughout her illness. Her brothers John, Carl, Tony and Rob also survive along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents Walter Sr. and Mattie Green she is also predeceased by oldest brother Walter, Jr. and her grandson Brandon as well as her best friends and mother and father in law, Kay and Archie Becker.
A heartfelt thank you to the Nursing staff at St. Mary's Hospital ICU and 4th floor as well as Mountain Valley Hospice, and Dr. Goslin's office.
A funeral service for Mary will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam NY 12010. Family and friends are invited to visit one hour prior to the funeral service beginning at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers.

Charles J. Skee
Born in Starkville, NY on Jan. 15, 1925

Mr.Charles James Skee, 86, of Amsterdam, NY, passed away on October 24, 2011 at Ellis Hospital following a long illness. His wife, daughter and son-in-law were by his side. He is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years, Adeline E. Skee, 5 children (Noreen S. M. Walter and her husband Kenneth, Dr. James Skee and his wife R. Gail, Charles Kerry Skee and his wife Donna, David Skee and his wife Janet and Kevin James Skee), 15 grandchildren (Duane Miller, Ronald Miller, Andrew Miller, Summer Skee-Franzen, Dustin Skee, Katharine Skee Yost, Benjamin Skee, Kelsi Skee, Tristen Skee, Justin Skee, Simon Skee, Jenna Skee, Jonathan Skee, Jessica Skee and Jason Skee), 3 Step-grandchildren (Gisella Walter, Rosanna Ely and Christina Knobel), 5 great-grandchildren (Alyssa Miller, Matthew Miller, Grace Miller, Joshua Miller and Logan Miller), 4 Step-great-grandchildren (Caleb Knobel, Emily Smith, Jacqueline Gilligan, and William Purtell), a twin sister Mary "Stacia" Billis and her husband Joseph, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by his infant son, Kevin Nelson Skee, who passed away in 1957 and his brother Frank Sidlauscus.
Mr. Skee was born in Starkville, NY on January 15, 1925 to Ignatius Kikeicius Skee and Aleksandra "Helen" Marmakeviciute Sidlauskus Skee, and educated at the Owen D. Young School in Van Hornesville, NY.
He left home at the age of 16 and traveled to California where he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. Reserve at San Diego on Nov. 12, 1941. He was one of the first Americans deployed overseas after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Private Charles J. Skee was first shipped to the Pacific island of Tutuila, American Samoa to aid in setting up the island's defenses. After seven months, he was then part of the Guadalcanal offensive, which was the first time the American forces were to strike back after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. On the island of Guadalcanal, he was wounded three times in action against the Japanese and awarded two Purple Heart Medals. He also received the Navy and Marine Commendation, as well as a Presidential Unit Citation for his actions on Guadalcanal.
After being promoted to Private First Class (PFC) and recuperating from wounds from Guadalcanal in New Zealand, he volunteered to take part in the offensive against the island of Tarawa, where he earned his second Presidential Unit Citation. Next, he was sent to Hawaii for training and then he was sent to take part in the offensives against the islands of Saipan and Tinian. Still suffering from the effects of malaria and wounds from action against the enemy, he was finally sent home in October 1944. While on 30 day furlough, he married his sweetheart Adeline Ambridge on November 18, 1944. He was then stationed at Portsmouth Naval Prison at Portsmouth, NH as a prison guard until he was honorably discharged from active duty on October 5, 1945.
Charles received the following medals and ribbons for service to his country during World War II: The Bronze Star Medal, two Purple Heart Medals, Navy & Marine Commendation Medal and Ribbon, Combat Action Ribbon, two Navy & Marine Presidential Unit Citations, Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal, American Defense Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with three stars and the World War II Victory Medal.
He continued to serve his country in the Marine Corps Reserve until his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps on December 9, 1950. On Memorial Day in 2011, he was honored for service to his country by the City of Amsterdam with The Veteran Service Medal.
After being discharged from active duty in the Marine Corps Reserve, he settled in Amsterdam, NY and started two successful businesses, with the first being Major Construction Co. and then in 1954 he started Amsterdam Wrecking and Salvage Co (incorporated in 1961) and demolished many residential and commercial buildings throughout the state over the years.
Mr. Skee was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a former pilot and commanding officer of the Sacandaga Squadron of the N.Y. Wing of the Civil Air Patrol (an auxiliary of the U.S.A.F.) achieving the rank of Captain and participating in many search and rescue missions throughout the state. He was also a former member of the American Legion, the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corp (GAVAC) and the Fort Johnson Volunteer Fire Dept. where he was once named "Fireman of the Year" for trying to save a child from a neighbor's burning house, nearly losing his own life in the process.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, October 28th from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Funeral Home followed by internment with full military honors at Fort Plain Cemetery, Fort Plain, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 12 Destefano Place, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Joan Mordecai
Born in Maidenhead, England on Jul. 18, 1923

Joan Mordecai, 88, of Lansing Street, Hagaman, died October 21, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.
Mrs. Mordecai was born Joan Boniface in Maidenhead, England, where she attended Art School as a teen. She served as a volunteer telephone operator during World War II, and first met her husband Max over the phone, as he was also a communication specialist serving in the US Army stationed in France.
Joan and Max married in 1946 and lived most of their lives in New York City raising their three children, Vance, Mallory and Glen. Upon Max's retirement in 1985, they moved to Schenectady, NY to be near their only grandchild, Adam. During this time, Joan Mordecai happily served as a curator at the Schenectady Historical Society, planning exhibits that often drew the attention of local television stations and government officials who took pride in her historical sensibilities.
Enjoying fifty five years of marriage, beloved husband Max passed away in 2001, at which time Joan moved to Hagaman to live with family.
Joan loved to paint, read mysteries and sing, and was a dedicated mother of son Vance Mordecai of Schenectady, daughter Mallory and her husband David Richstone of Hagaman, and son Glen Mordecai and his wife Debbie of New York City. As a proud grandmother, she adored grandson Adam Rackis, a graduate of the US Air Force Academy, and his wife Laura. Joan was immensely proud of her great granddaughter Katie Madison Rackis.
A service to celebrate Joan's life will take place Thursday at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday morning after 10:30 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made in her memory to the Montgomery County SPCA in care of the funeral home office, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Priscilla M. Scalzetto
Born in Brooklyn, NY on May 26, 1926

Mrs. Priscilla "Pat" Scalzetto, 85, of Mary Street, Palatine Bridge, NY died peacefully in the the arms of the Lord on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at home. Born in Brooklyn, NY on May 26, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Osterhout Hagen.

Pat was educated in Schoharie and lived in several communites in the Capital District during her lifetime. She was employed as a clerk for the Department of Motor Vehicles in Albany for several years. Pat also resided in Florida where she was employed for Barnett Bank for 10 years.

In 1998 she returned to the area to be closer to family. Pat was a member of the Johnstown Moose Lodge Women's Auxiliary and was of the Roman Catholic faith. Her passion in life was oil painting and she took great pride in giving them to family members. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and crafts.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Ralph P. Scalzetto; two daughters, Margaret Warner of Fonda, NY and Alyce Krug of Nelliston, NY; one son, Charles Orsini of Altamont, NY; one step son, David Scalzetto of Woodland Hills, CA; one sister Catherine West of High Springs Florida; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a step son, Stephen Scalzetto and a great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 12 noon at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. Interment will follow in Sloansville Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call one hour prior to the service beginning at 11 o'clock.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, PO Box 287, Fort Plain, NY 13339 or to the Kidney and Urology Foundation of America, 2 West 47th Street, Suite 401, New York NY 10036.
