Mrs. Jean Stanton Gillis, 76, of Parsonage Pines Senior Housing, Schoharie, died Saturday at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany after being stricken at home.
Born in Esperance, Mrs. Gillis lived there until moving to Georgia in 1982. She had been a Schoharie resident since 1987. She was a graduate of Delanson High School.
Mrs. Gillis was employed as a clerk at the Esperance post office for several years and later was a clerk at the state Department of Taxation and Finance in Albany until retiring in 1972.
She was a former member of the Esperance Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Her husband, Charles B. Stanton Sr. died Nov. 24, 1971.
Survivors include two sons, Charles "Tinker" Stanton of Esperance and Gerald "Jake" Stanton of Latham; two daughters, Bonnie Jean Regeles of Lethi Springs, Ga., and Beverly Brodie of Eatons Corners, a sister, Rita Byrne of Johnstown; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A service is set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the White-Van Buren Funeral Home, 1779 Main St., Delanson. Burial will be in the spring in Esperance Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Scho-Wright Ambulance Corps., Schoharie 12157, or to the Esperance Volunteer Fire Department, Esperance.
Rose Petrosino
November 30, 1996
Mrs. Rose Petrosino, 84, of Guilderland, died Saturday at Albany Memorial Hospice.
Born in Amsterdam, Mrs. Petrosino lived most of her life in the Capital District.
She was married to Alphonso S. Petrosino until his death.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary G. Rockenstyre of Schenectady; a son, Joseph J. Petrosino of South Conway, S.C.; two brothers, Frank Scafidi and Thomas Scafidi; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Christ the King. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
Arrangements are by the Hearley & Son Funeral Home, 1561 Western Ave., Albany.
Ruth Murphy
December 1, 1996
Mrs. Ruth L. Murphy, 76, formerly of Stewart Street, Amsterdam, died Sunday evening at the Mount Loretto Nursing Home.
Arrangements are incomplete and under the direction of the Riley Mortuary Inc., Amsterdam.
John Salerno
December 2, 1996
John Salerno, 85, formerly of Florida Avenue, Amsterdam, died Monday at Mount Loretto Nursing Home after a long illness.
Born Oct. 31, 1911 in Youngstown, Ohio, he was the son of Giovanni and Marianna Salerno. He moved to Italy, was educated there and moved back to the United States at the age of 18. He settled in Amsterdam in 1929 and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Salerno was employed as a machinist helper in the large steam turbine generator department of the General Electric Co. in Schenectady, retiring in 1971.
He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church.
He married Rose Antinolfi on April 14, 1934. She died April 30, 1983.
Survivors include a son, Ralph Salerno of Amsterdam; two daughters, Marianne Micozzi of Selkirk and Dolores McClune of Schenectady; a brother, Gennaro Salerno and a sister Maria Rovelli, both of Italy; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the DeStefano Funeral Home, Route 5S, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Interment will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ruth Murphy
December 1, 1996
Ruth L. Murphy, 76, formerly of Stewart Street, Amsterdam, died Sunday at the Mount Loretto Nursing Home.
Born March 18, 1920 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Thomas and Lillian Morley Smith, and was a lifelong city resident. She was a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School Class of 1938 and also the former Amsterdam School of Commerce.
She was employed by the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital as a medical records supervisor, retiring in 1985.
Mrs. Murphy was a member of St. Ann's Episcopal Church and also the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Horace J. Inman Senior Citizens Center.
Her husband, George M. Murphy, died in 1977.
She is survived by a son, George T. Murphy, of Amsterdam; a daughter, Lynn Ann Aparo of Newington, Conn.; two grandsons, Shawn T. Murphy of Santa Ana, Calif., and Christopher Gilbert of Newington Conn.; a granddaughter, Kellie Gilbert of Newington, Conn.; also nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A committal service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Cemetery Chapel in Fort Johnson with the Rev. Christopher A. Smith officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Amsterdam, 40 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.
Local arrangements are by the Riley Mortuary.
Marjorie "Marge" John
December 1, 1996
Marjorie "Marge" Burke John, 64, of Patrick Court, Schenectady, died Sunday at Ellis Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Cohoes, she was a lifelong area resident.
She attended the Vincentian Institute Catholic High School in Albany and Flushing Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a registered nurse. She worked as a nurse at Schenectady Pediatrics for 26 years until the onset of illness. Prior to that, she was a public health nurse for the state Department of Health for a number of years.
She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church and its Rosary Society.
She married J. Edward John in 1955.
In addition to her husband, survivors include three daughters, Susan Brown of Jacksonville, Fla., Margie Kenney of Torrington, Conn. and Karen Puglisi of Amsterdam; a son, Kevin John of Glenville; a sister, Ellen Newport of Latham, and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m.today at the funeral home. The Rosary Society will meet at 7:30 p.m.

Barbara Scheuer
December 1, 1996
Mrs. Barbara "Mabel" Blass Scheuer, 95, of Route 146, Delanson, died Sunday at Eden Park Nursing Home, Cobleskill, where she resided since 1993.
Born in Brooklyn, Mrs. Scheuer attended a one-room school in the Levittown area and lived in Plainview most of her life before moving to Delanson in 1971.
In her early years, she and her husband operated a tollgate on the Long Island Motor Parkway, which was owned by W.K. Vanderbilt, until it closed in 1934.
Mrs. Scheuer was a former communicant of Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in Mineola. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Schoharie.
She also was a member of the Gallupville Gals Club and the Gallupville Senior Citizens.
Her husband, James "Carl " Scheuer, whom she married June 1, 1921, died in 1971.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth M. Godligkeit of Delanson; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Cemetery, Pinelawn.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Langan Funeral Home, 227 Main St., Schoharie, during which a service will be held at 8:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gallupville Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Scho-Wright Ambulance Service or to charity.
Harriet Loveys
November 22, 1996
Services were conducted in England for Mrs. Harriet Franko Loveys, 86, of Isle of Palms, formerly of Johnstown, who died Nov. 22 at the home of her daughter in England.
Born in Johnstown, Mrs. Loveys graduated from Johnstown High School and the Nathan Littauer Hospital School of Nursing in Gloversville.
Mrs. Loveys was the widow of Donald C. Loveys.
Survivors include a daughter, Dr. Donna Christensenn of Falmouth, England; two sisters, Mary Keavney of Johnstown and Evelyn Marshall of Summerville, S.C., a brother, Frederick M. Franko of Johnstown; and two grandchildren.
Spring burial will be in Fern Dale Cemetery.
Mark O'Hara
December 1, 1996
Mark T. O'Hara, 91, of Vley Road, Scotia, died Sunday at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after a short illness.
Born in West Carthage, Mr. O'Hara was a resident of Schenectady for the past 65 years.
He was the proprietor of Merican Systems in Schenectady for 40 years, retiring at the age of 62.
Mr. O'Hara is survived by his wife, Gladys Kopfstedt O'Hara; a daughter, Maureen L. Phillips of Amsterdam; and two grandchildren.
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the White Funeral Home,264 N. Ballston Ave., Route 50. Burial will be in Park Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Helen Scutt
December 2, 1996
Helen Arlene Scutt, 64, of the Montgomery Meadows in Amsterdam and formerly of West Main Street, Nelliston, died Monday after a long illness.
Born Nov. 13, 1932 in Nelliston, she was the daughter of Delbert Marshall and Katherine Bray. She graduated from Fort Plain High School.
At one time, she was a nurses aid at the former Canajoharie Nursing Home and later worked as a meat packer at the former Fort Plain Packing Co. in Fort Plain.
Mrs. Scutt lived at the Montgomery Meadows since 1977. She was a longtime Nelliston resident.
She was of the Reformed faith.
She married Graham Scutt on Sept. 28, 1963, in Fort Plain.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Kathleen M. Mykel of Fort Plain; three grandchildren, Rodney Summerfield and Scott Summerfield both of Gloversville, and Jeremy Mykel of Fort Plain; one nephew and two nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain, with the Rev. Jeff Thibodeau officiating. Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Marie DeSieno
December 2, 1996
Marie A. Dandreano DeSieno, 68, of 69 River Road, Agawam, Mass., died Monday at Health South in Ludlow, Mass.
Born Dec. 29, 1927 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Luigi and Orsolina Tambasco Dandreano and settled in Agawam in 1957.
Mrs. DeSieno was an office worker for the former John H. Breck Corp. of Springfield, Mass., for 29 years, retiring in 1988.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Agawam and a member of the women's division of the Sons of Italy Lodge 379 in Springfield. She was a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam.
Her husband the late Louis A. DeSieno died in 1980.
Survivors include a son, Louis, with whom she lived; two brothers, Anthony "Hank" and Vito Dandreano, both of Amsterdam; two sisters, Nellie Aragona of Schenectady and Ethel Poremba of Amsterdam; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 a.m.Thursday at the Tazzini Funeral Home, 22 Locust St., Springfield, Mass., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m at St. John The Evangelist Church. Burial will be in Agawam Center Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
