Leona Kralovic
July 18, 1996
Mrs. Leona Simek Kralovic, 76, of Canal Street, Johnstown, died Thursday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a short illness.
Born in Gloversville, Mrs. Kralovik was a graduate of Johnstown High School.
At one time, she was a sales clerk for the Tot & Teen Shop and subsequently worked for several area glove companies.
Mrs. Kralovic was a member of St. Anthony's Church and its Rosary Society.
She was also a member of the Catholic Women's Association; the Catholic Daughters of the Americas; the 50-Plus Senior Citizens; and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Her husband, Frank Kralovic, whom she married Nov. 21, 1940, died in 1985.
Survivors include a son, Jon Kralovic of Delanson; three sisters, Bertha Hunt of Alexandria, Va.; and Mary Simek and Josephine Ralbovsky both of Johnstown and three grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Church.
Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, Main and Melcher streets.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wildwood School, 2995 Curry Road Extension, Schenectady, 12303.

Robert Clay
July 17, 1996
Robert C. Clay, 62, of Beacon Avenue, Albany, died Wednesday at the Stratton Veterans Affairs Medical Center Hospital.
Mr. Clay was born in Gloversville. He was a 1952 graduate of Gloversville High School and served with the Army until 1959.
Mr. Clay retired from the General Electric Company in Schenectady in 1976 due to ill health.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Harris Clay; three daughters, Lenise Clay Darden of Forest Hills, Shelley Clay of San Francisco and Fonda Clay of Albany; two brothers, James R. Clay of Washington, D.C., and Carl E. Clay of Portsmouth, Va.; a sister, Audrey Bowman of Gloversville ; and two grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at theWilborn Temple, First Church of God in Christ, 121 Jay St.
Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
Calling hours are from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Arrangements are by the Garland Bros. Funeral Home.

Ruth Hall
July 17, 1996
Mrs. Ruth Hall, 81, of East Pine Street, Gloversville, died Wednesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital after being stricken at home.
Born in Morehouseville, Mrs. Hall was a sewing machine operator at St. Thomas Leather.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur Hall Sr., whom she married in 1959; a son, Arthur Hall Jr., of Gloversville; and a sister, Orilla Youker of Edinburg.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher St., Johnstown.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.

Juan Carrero
July 19, 1996
Juan Carrero, 85, formerly of Division Street, Amsterdam, died this morning at the Montgomery County Infirmary after a long illness.
Born in Jauco, Puerto Rico, on Dec. 14, 1910, a son of Ramon and Juana Montero Carrero, he was educated there, and was a graduate of the College of Agriculture in Mayaguez Puerto Rico. Mr. Carrero was a self-employed contractor.
He moved to Amsterdam in 1986 to make his home with his daughter, Isabelle Torres.
Mr. Carrero was a member of the Iglesia Alpha & Omega Penticostal in Amsterdam.
His wife, Cristina Valentin Carrero, died Dec. 22, 1985.
He is survived by six sons, Miguel Carrero of New York City; Rafael Carrero of the Bronx; Carlos Carrero and Jose Carrero, both of Amsterdam; Luis and Efraim Carrero, both of Webster, Mass.; two daughters, Milagros Carrero of Amsterdam; and Isabelle Torres, also of Amsterdam. His grandson, Juan A. Carrero, died on April 8. He is survived by 21grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, with the Rev. Miguel Matos officiating.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Calling hours are Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Frank Szumowski
Frank T. Szumowski, 65, of 103 Pedrick Road, Gloversville, was pronounced dead on arrival at Nathan Littauer Hospital on Thursday, after becoming ill at home.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 38 West Main St., Broadalbin.

Stanley Pink
Funeral services for Stanley Pink, who died Wednesday, will be held at 8:45 a.m. Saturday at the Boice Funeral Home.

Edith Albers
July 19, 1996
Edith F. (Newkirk) Albers, 83, of Lent Court, Rotterdam, died Friday at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, after a short illness.
She was born in Scotch Bush and lived in the Schenectady County area for more than 50 years.
For more than 15 years she was a school bus driver for the Scotia-Glenville School District, retiring in 1975.
Mrs. Albers was a member of the Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Schenectady and its choir, and was a former Sunday school teacher. She also served on the church's ministry at the Baptist Retirement Center in Scotia.
Her husband, Kenneth Albers, whom she married Aug. 3, 1934, died in 1987.
Survivors include two sons, David J. Albers of Rochester and Lynnwood E. Albers of Vallejo, Calif.; a daughter, Donna G. Horning of Schenectady; two brothers, Hazlett Newkirk of Rome and Frank Newkirk of Fort Hunter; two sisters, Arlene Hodges and Edna LaRocco, both of Schenectady; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday at Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church, Rugby Road and Glenwood Boulevard, Schenectady.
Burial will be in Woestina Reformed Cemetery, Rotterdam Junction.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Bond Funeral Home, Broadway and Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady.

Elsa Jeffers
July 20, 1996
Elsa Mae Jeffers, 86, a former Broadalbin resident, died Saturday morning at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after a long illness.
She was born March 25, 1910, in Mayfield, the daughter of Arch and Minnie Granger VanBuren.
She lived in Broadalbin most of her life. Mrs. Jeffers also wintered in California and Florida years ago. She lived at Pine View Commons in Johnstown before entering the Fulton County Infirmary for several years.
Mrs. Jeffers was a school teacher in Hagaman, Fort Hunter and Fishouse schools, and retired in 1972 from the Meco School in Gloversville after 20 years of service.
She was a member of the Broadalbin Baptist Church.
Her husband, LaVerne Jeffers, died in 1979.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Jeffers of Santee, Calif.; a brother, Donald VanBuren of Holly Hills, Fla.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Irwin VanBuren, and five sisters, Mildred Kissinger, Lillian Sawyer, Sara Crannell, Emma VanBuren and Irene Merry.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Broadalbin Baptist Church, West Main Street, Broadalbin, with the Rev. Matthew Collins officiating.
Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Jeffords Chapel, 85 W. Main St., Broadalbin.
Interment will be in Broadalbin Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Broadalbin Baptist Church.

Kostij Stefiniv
July 20, 1996
Kostij "Kosty" Stefiniv, 80, of Fisher Road, Fultonville, died Saturday at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after a long illness.
He was born June 6, 1916, in Ukraine and was educated there.
He came to the U.S. from Ukraine in 1950 and began living with the Yurkewecz family in the Town of Glen.
He worked on the family's Glenridge Farm in Glen as a herdsman and farmer, retiring in 1992 after 40 years.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church in Amsterdam.
Survivors include his American family, Eugene and Katherine Yurkewecz of Glen; the family's four daughters, Carol J. Parenti of St. Cloud, Fla., Judith C. Murray of Fultonville, Cynthia J. Doherty of Broadalbin and Sharen K. Schnell of Westerville, Ohio; and the family's son, E. Kenneth Yurkewecz of Clifton Park.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Amsterdam. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church.
Arrangements are by the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St. Fultonville.

Cecil H. Dutcher
July 20, 1996
Cecil H. Dutcher Sr., 65 of Gray Road in Mayfield, died Saturday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a long illness.
Born in Edinburg, Mr. Dutcher was educated in Mayfield.
He served with the Navy from 1948 to 1952.
For 20 years, Mr. Dutcher worked for Coleco Industries, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the Parent-Teacher Organization in Mayfield and the AFL-CIO.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Donna Ostrander Dutcher, a son, Cecil H. Dutcher Jr. of Mayfield, two daughters, Selena and Ruth Ann Dutcher, both of Mayfield, a sister, Irene Bulger of Johnstown; and his mother, Lottie Dutcher of Mayfield.
A service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge St., Northville.
Burial will be in Robinson Cemetery, Edinburgh.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Laula Bunn
July 21, 1996
Laula H. Bunn, 81, formerly of Beech Street in Gloversville, died Sunday at the Fulton County Infirmary.
Born in Schoharie County, Mrs. Bunn attended Mayfield Schools, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a glove maker at various local glove companies.
Her husband, Freeman Bunn Jr., whom she married in 1934, died in 1973.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth and Edward Bunn, both of Gloversville; a brother, George LaMont of Gloversville; two sisers, Hazel Gallup and Arlene Snyder, both of Gloversville; 10 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
The service will be held at 9:30 this morning at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave.
Burial was in Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.

Monroe Schere
July 20, 1996
Monroe Schere, 83, of Guy Park Avenue in Amsterdam, died Saturday at Peekskill Hospital.
Born and educted in New York City, Mr. Schere attended the University of Alabama.
For 35 years, he was a publisher, editor, and writer of novels for Prentice Hall.
Mr. Schere was a member of the Authors Guild of New York City, the Bat Conservation Association, and the American Museum of Natural History.
Survivors include his wife, Maybelle Stewart Schere, whom he married Aug. 23, 1990, two sons, Jonathon Schere of White Plains and Ivan Schere of Coral Springs, Fla; three stepsons, Duncan J. and Thomas A. Stewart, both of New York City, and Douglas W. Stewart of Hingham, Mass.; a stepdaughter Margaret S. Walker of Athens, Ohio; four grandchildren, and six step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Presbyterian Church, 25 Church St., Amsterdam.
Cremation was at Ferncliff Crematory, Hartsdale.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Amsterdam or the Amsterdam Free Library.
Arrangements are by the Johnson-Lindsay Funeral Home, Amsterdam.
