Esther Butkus
December 20, 1996
Esther Hassfurter Butkus, 75, formerly of the Roosevelt Apartments, Wall Street, Amsterdam, died Friday evening at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility after a long illness.
She was born in Galway May 4, 1921, the daughter of John and Frances Hoffman Hassfurter. She was educated there and lived in this area all her life.
Mrs. Burkus was employed for 39 years in printing services for General Electric Co. in Schenectady before retiring in 1986.
She was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and the First Presbyterian Church of West Galway.
Her husband, William F. Butkus, died July 19, 1995.
Survivors include two sisters, Zelma Jackson and Beulah Pabis, both of Amsterdam; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the West Galway Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Amsterdam or the First Presbyterian Church of West Galway.
Arrangements are by the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam.

Esther McRorie
December 21, 1996
Esther Cole McRorie, 80, formerly of Paul Avenue, Rotterdam, died Saturday at the Mount Loretto Nursing Home after a long illness.
She was born in Coxsackie June 18, 1916, and lived in the Schenectady area since the early 1930s.
Mrs. McRorie worked for Draper High School for many years in the cafeteria, retiring in the mid-1970s.
She was a former member of the Carmain Methodist Church.
Her husband, Charles H. McRorie, to whom she was married for 48 years, died Jan. 31, 1988.
Survivors include three daughters, Marlene King of Rotterdam, Bonnie Kuk of Amsterdam and Christine McRorie of Westlake Village, Calif.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are 3 p.m. Monday at the Bond Funeral Home, Broadway and Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady.
Burial will be in Vale Cemetery, Schenectady.
Friends and relatives may call from 2:30 to 3 p.m. before the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 1107, Southwick, Mass. 01077.

Carl Farrington
December 19, 1996
Carl L. Farrington, 45, of Moyer Street, Canajoharie, died Thursday.
He was born March 25, 1951, in Schenectady, the son of Lorence and Mabel Bruch Farrington. He graduated from Scotia-Glenville Central School in 1969 and from Schenectady County Community College in 1971.
He was a manager for Stewart's Shops for the past two years in Esperance and Middleburgh. He was a resident of Canajoharie for the past eight years.
Mr. Farrington was a member of the Aldersgate Free Methodist Church in Canajoharie and a former Boy Scout leader.
He married Susan DeLong Feb. 14, 1975, in Schenectady.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Adam L. Farrington of Canajoharie; two daughters, Audra A. Farrington of Glen and Brooke N. Farrington of Canajoharie; his father, Lorence Farrington of Scotia; a brother, Louis H. Farrington of Ballston Lake; several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of the Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie, with the Rev. Wayne Cole officiating.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to Stewart's Christmas Wish, c/o Stewart's Shops, Saratoga Springs 12866; or to the Farrington children's education fund, c/o Central National Bank, 24 Church St., Canajoharie 13317.

Walter Kulbako
December 21, 1996
Walter A. Kulbako, 81, of Fiero Avenue, Rotterdam, died Saturday at home.
Mr. Kulbako was manager of Turbine Accounts Payable at General Electric for 35 years. He was a US Navy Radarman (Asia and Pacific) during World War II. He was a graduate of Albany High School Class of 1933 and also attended Albany Business College.
He was a member of the Rotterdam Elks No. 2157, St. Gabriel's Ushers Group, Rotterdam Senior Citizens Association, St. Gabriel's Church and Western Turnpike Country Club.
Mr. Kulbako is survived by his wife of 48 years, M. Justina Knapik Kulbako; two sons, Joseph A. Kulbako of Gaitersburg, MD., and James E. Kulbako of Schenectady; one daughter, Annemarie C. Cermak of Ballston Lake; two brothers, Stanley Kulbako of Albany and Frank Kulbako of Schenectady; one sister, Blanche Kulpa of Latham and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 8:15 a.m. from the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., and at a 9 a.m. Mass at St. Gabriel's Church.
Calling hours are today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment is in St. Stanislaus Cemetery Amsterdam.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Gabriel's Church Memorial Fund or the American Cancer Society.

Marjorie Johnson
December 22, 1996
Mrs. Marjorie Eckler Johnson, 86, of Truax Road, died Sunday morning at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, following a short illness.
Born Jan. 8, 1910 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Orrin and Addie Brown Eckler. She was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker.
She was a former member of the Mannys Corners Community Club, and was a former school tax collector.
She was a communicant of the Calvary Reformed Church of Hagaman.
She was married to S. Leland Johnson on June 15, 1929. He died on Nov. 22, 1985.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by a son, Robert L. Johnson of Amsterdam ; two daughters, Arlyn (Lynn) Smith and Nancy Harris, both of West Galway; two sisters, Lorraine Teets of West Sand Lake, and Marcella Cornell of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam with the Rev. Susan Crane officiating. The interment will be in the spring. Calling hours will be held today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Calvary Reformed Church, the Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department or the Hagaman Volunteer Fire Department in care of the funeral home.

Charles Bollacker
December 21, 1996
Charles Bollacker, 59, of Taurus Road, Schenectady, died Saturday at St. Clare's Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Bollacker was born in Schenectady.
He was a pressman and foreman for the Crest-Litho Company for 35 years.
His wife, Frances Tenace Bollacker, died September 1995.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Bollacker of Schenectady, Anthony Bollacker of Clifton Park and James Bollacker of Colonie; a daughter, Kimberley Slocum of Amsterdam; a brother, Richard Bollacker of Orlando, Fla., three sisters, Marlene Woodward of Pattersonville and Shirley Tyler and Joan LaBombard, both of New Port Richey, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St. Burial will be in Memory's Garden in Colonie. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Clarence Becker
December 22, 1996
Clarence D. Becker Sr. 92, of Mayfield died Sunday at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home in Gloversville where he was a resident since July 1994.
Born July 16, 1904, in Broadalbin, he was the son of John and Chloe Gifford Becker. He attended Mayfield schools.
He was employed at General Electric Company in Schenectady from 1942 to 1945. He owned and operated C.D. Becker Plumbing, Heating and Electrical for 50 years until retiring in 1980.
Mr. Becker was a member of Central Presbyterian Church of Mayfield, an exempt member of the Mayfield Volunteer Fire Department for more than 60 years, a member of the Foresters Lodge, and of the former International Order of Odd Fellows of Mayfield.
He married Violet Hunter Nov. 25, 1925. She died Nov. 20, 1961. He married Doris M. Haley June 2, 1962. She died Feb. 27, 1995.
Survivors include a son, Dennie Becker of Silver Spring, Md.; a daughter, Delores Brunner of Fort Plain; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Elaine Becker, in 1926.
Services will be conducted Wednesday, May 28, at the Walrath and Bushouer Funeral Home Inc., Gloversville.
Burial will be in Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mayfield Volunteer Fire Department or to the Mayfield Historical Society, Box 715, Mayfield 12117.

Anthony Kleabonas
December 22, 1996
Anthony B. Kleabonas, 84, of DeSoto, Texas, died Sunday in Dallas.
He was born June 22, 1912, in Amsterdam and earned his electrical engineering degree in 1935 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy.
After a 33-year career with General Electric in Schenectady, and NASA in Houston, he and his wife retired and moved to DeSoto, Texas.
His wife, Adele, died in 1992.
Survivors include three daughters, Ann Marie Jund of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Peggy Cady of DeSoto, Texas, and Susie Molena of Lancaster, Texas; two brothers, John and Valentinas Kleabonas; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Lancaster, Texas, with the Rev. Stephen J. Mocio officiating.
Private entombment will be in Holy Redeemer Mausoleum in DeSoto, Texas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Christopher Johnson
December 23, 1996
Christopher E. Johnson, 68, of State Route 5, Palatine Bridge, died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.
He was born May 2, 1928, in Waterbury, Conn.,the son of Edward Francis and Helen Gertrude Garrity Johnson. He was educated in Waterbury, Conn., and received his GED through the Canajoharie school system. He lived in Palatine Bridge since 1972.
Mr. Johnson was employed as a truck driver for Associated Transport Trucking Co. in Waterbury, Conn., and for eight years was a school bus driver for the Canajoharie Central School District. He retired due to illness in 1986.
He was a dispatcher for the Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service.
He married Gertrude Weaver Nov. 13, 1982, in Fort Plain.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kathy DeSimone of Waterbury, Conn., and Joanne Johnson of West Lebanon; two sisters, Betsey Johnson and Dorothy Johnson, both of Sarasota, Fla.; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at a time to be announced. Burial will be private and there are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service, P.O.Box 126, Canajoharie 13317.
Arrangements are by the Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Canajoharie.

Beverly Demars
December 23, 1996
Beverly E. Demars, 66, of Lepper Road, Fort Johnson, died Monday at home following a long illness.
She was born in Amsterdam Jan. 7, 1930, the daughter of John and Cecilia Brooker Martin. Mrs. Demars was educated in the Amsterdam school system. She was employed by the Grand Union Co. and Kem Cleaners, until retiring in 1991.
She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and the Irish American Club of Amsterdam.
Her husband, Joseph E. Demars, whom she married in 1975, died in 1993.
Survivors include two sons, Jack Prill of Fort Johnson and Christopher Prill of Lake George; two daughters, Judith Jones and Patricia Prill, both of Tribes Hill; four stepchildren, Joseph Demars Jr., Theresa Arthurs and Elizabeth Demars, all of Amsterdam, and Jean Marie Terwilliger of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters, Elizabeth Moran of Amsterdam and Dorothy Argersinger of Lakeland, Fla.; seven grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Friday at the Riley Mortuary Inc., 110 Division St., with the Rev. Robert E. Doxey officiating.
Spring interment will be in Hagaman Cemetery.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church or to Hospice of Amsterdam, 40 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam 12010.

Mary DiCicco
December 22, 1996
Mary Bombardatore DiCicco, 85, formerly of Division Street, Amsterdam, died Sunday evening at the Wealey Health Care Facility in Saratoga after a long illness.
She was born in Amsterdam Aug. 23, 1911, the daughter of Francisco and Giovanna Dallesandro Bombardatore. She lived here most of her life and was educated locally.
Mrs. DiCicco was first employed as a winder for Mohasco and then Barlow Manufacturing. She then worked as a cook at the former Isabel's Restaurant until her retirement.
She was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and a member of its Santa Sofia Society.
During the 1950s, she became one of the first Democratic women committee members serving in the city's 6th Ward.
Her husband, John DiCicco, died April 23, 1983.
Survivors include a son, Santo DeCicco of Amsterdam; two daughters, Nancy Rusiolas of Ballston Lake and Josephine Uhlinger of Ballston Spa; six sisters, Rose Bombardatore, Millie Bombardatore and Josephine Bombardatore, all of Amsterdam, Susan Gambardella, Carmella Kazlauskas and Jane Eliseo, all of Schenectady; a brother, Frank Bombardatore of Schenectady; a step-brother, Aureliano DeRossi of Amsterdam; a step-sister, Rose DaBiere of Amsterdam; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 8:15 a.m. Friday at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.
Interment is in St. Michael's Cemetery.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's Church or to the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Fund, both in care of the funeral home.
