Raymond Bolster
January 17, 1997
Raymond J. Bolster, 99, of the St. Johnsville Nursing Home, and formerly of 385 Fical St., St. Johnsville, died Friday at the nursing home.
He was born Nov. 8, 1897 in Oppenheim, the son of Milton J. and Dorn B. (Barker) Bolster.
Mr. Bolster was married to the former Clara C. Kraft on July 10, 1923 in Fort Plain. The two resided in the St. Johnsville and Lassellsville areas their entire lives. The two then resided at Pineview Commons Adult Home in Johnstown from June 1995 until Mr. Bolster was moved to the St. Johnsville Nursing Home in October 1996.
He was employed by Niagara Mohawk Power & Light Corp beginning in 1928 until retiring in 1965.
Mr. Bolster was a member of F&AM Masonic Lodge 611 in St. Johnsville for 47 years. He also was a 40-year member of Odd Fellows Lodge in St. Johnsville.
At the time of his death, he was a member of Lassellsville Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife Clara of Johnstown; a daughter, Joan R. Capece of St. Simon's Island, Ga.; two granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Bolster was pre-deceased by a son, Roy Bolster, who died in 1930.
There will be no calling hours.
A graveside service will be conducted at the family's convenience at St. Johnsville Cemetery in the spring.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are by the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville.

Olga Randazzo
January 17, 1997
Olga T. Randazzo, 84, formerly of Forben Street, Amsterdam, died Friday at Green Manor Nursing Home in Ghent.
She was born Jan. 12, 1913 in Ben Alfro, Provence of Isermia, Italy, a daughter of Oresti and Angelina Manselli Bombardieri. She was educated in Italy.
Mrs. Randazzo was employed as a seamstress before moving to this country. She moved to the United States and on Dec. 15, 1967, became a citizen.
She was employed at Adirondack Knitting Mill until her retirement.
Mrs. Randazzo was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.
In 1961, she married Antonio Randazzo. He died Oct. 24, 1989.
Survivors include three brothers, Bruno Bombardieri, Oresti Bombardieri and Mandini Bombardieri, all of Milan, Italy; one sister, Concetta Maria Galunturmo of Milan, Italy; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no calling hours.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 p.m. today at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam.
Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.

Mary Furman
January 17, 1997
Mrs. Mary Furman, 78, formerly of Schuyler Street, died Friday afternoon at Montgomery Meadows in Amsterdam.
She was born Jan. 28, 1918 in Amsterdam, a daughter of Anthony and Madeline Mierzwa Tybor. She was educated in Amsterdam schools and was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Furman had been employed by the former Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Mills.
She was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church.
Her husband, Edward Furman, died Nov. 4, 1977.
Survivors include a daughter, Jacqueline Cole of Huntington Beach, Calif.; a brother, Stanley Tybor of Johnstown; three sisters, Lillian Renzo, Isabelle Palilunas and Bernadine Tybor, all of Amsterdam; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be private.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9 a.m. Monday at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 50 Cornell St., Amsterdam.
Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam.

Barry Winney
January 17, 1997
Barry G. Winney, 64, of Stevers Mill Road, Broadalbin, died Friday at the Montgomery Meadows Residential Health Care Facility where he had resided since December.
He was born in Broadalbin Dec. 4, 1932, the son of LeRoy and Myra Harvey Winney. He was a 1950 graduate of the former Broadalbin High School. In 1961, he received a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Mr. Winney was a lifelong area resident.
He was a self-employed machinist and welder in Broadalbin.
Mr. Winney was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of American Legion Post 337 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8690, both of Broadalbin.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his mother, Myra Winney of Amsterdam; three brothers, Jack Winney, David Winney and Philip Winney, all of Broadalbin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, 38 W. Main St., Broadalbin.
A memorial service will be conducted 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Herbert Johnson officiating. Cremation will be at Parkview Crematory, Schenectady.
Final interment will take place in the spring at the Union Mills Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Victoria Levandowski
January 16, 1997
Victoria Nowak Levandowski, 98, formerly of Maple Avenue, Hagaman, died Thursday at the Palatine Nursing Home, Palatine Bridge, where she had resided since September 1996.
She was born Oct. 25, 1898 in Amsterdam, the daughter of Zacharia and Marjanna Wachel Nowak.
Mrs. Levandowski was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, Amsterdam, and St. Stephen's Church, Hagaman.
Her husband, John Levandowski, died Oct. 25, 1958.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Guzielek-Pomykaj Funeral Home, 13 Belmont Place, Amsterdam.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Stanislaus Church.

Harold Barber
January 17, 1997
Harold L. Barber, 87, of Amsterdam, died Friday at Montgomery Meadows, Amsterdam, after a long illness.
Born July 31, 1909 in Bennington, Vt., he was the son of Jessie and Maude Sawyer Barber. He attended Vermont schools.
Mr. Barber was employed as a machinist at the General Electric Co., Schenectady, before retiring in the late 1960s.
Survivors include his wife, the former Pansy Harrington; a daughter, Carole Ann Kilgus of Dushore, Pa.; two sons, Harold "Clay" Barber of Amsterdam and Raymond Barber of Ocala, Fla.; two sisters, Retta Eddy of Florida and Ruth Freemyre of White Creek; a brother, Carl Barber of Patchogue, Long Island; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Calhoun, pastor of Perth Bible Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Schenectady.

Freda Hladik
January 18, 1997
Mrs. Freda E. Hladik, 77, of County Route 122, Gloversville, died Saturday at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
She was born July 21, 1919, in the Town of Johnstown, a daughter of Fred and Elizabeth Foland Walter.
Mrs. Hladik was a 1937 graduate of Gloversville High School and a lifelong Gloversville area resident.
She was employed by the General Telephone Co., formerly of Gloversville, for several years. She then worked as a representative for Avon products for more than 20 years.
Mrs. Hladik was a life member of the Bleecker Street Church of Christ in Gloversville.
On Oct. 21, 1938, she married Anthony M. Hladik. He died Feb. 12, 1994.
Survivors include a son, Jack Hladik of Johnstown; two sisters, Edna Moore of New Milford, Pa., and Ruth Henry of Johnstown; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker St., Gloversville.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Sandra D. Geer, officiating.
Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Johnson-Lindsay Funeral Home, Amsterdam.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bleecker Street Church of Christ, 97 Bleecker St., Gloversville.

Edward "Sarge" Turek
January 19, 1997
Edward A. Turek, 74, formerly of Gilbert Street, Amsterdam, died Sunday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Turek was the son of John and Agens Gryzewna Turek . He grew up and was educated in Galway. He later moved to Amsterdam. He was educated in Galway and was a 1941 graduate of Galway High School.
At one time he was employed by Mohawk Carpet Mills in Amsterdam. He later worked for the General Electric Company in Schenectady in the Grounds, Building and Maintenance Division as a carpenter. He retired in 1985 after 38 years.
Mr. Turek was a member of St. Stanislaus Seniors, a member of American Legion John Wyszomirski Post 701. He was a World War II Army Veteran and a member of St. Stanislaus Church.
He married Anna Sajta Turek on Nov. 27, 1948. She died Aug. 16, 1987.
Survivors include one brother, Theodore Turek of Galway; one sister, Florence Reedy of Galway; and also nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place, followed at 9 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stanislaus Church.
Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral chapel. The American Legion Post 701 will conduct a service at 7 p.m..
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Amsterdam, 40 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, or to St. Stanislaus Church.

Howard Hill
January 19, 1997
Howard S. Hill, 85, of 311 N. Main St., Gloversville, died at home Sunday after being stricken.
Born Feb. 26, 1911 in Gloversville he was the son of Harry S. and Florence L. LeRoy Hill. Mr. Hill graduated from Gloversville High School in 1928, and took courses at Cornell University.
In 1937, Mr. Hill was elected as alderman of Gloversville's Fourth Ward, a position he held until 1956 when he resigned due to moving to the Fifth Ward.
From 1940 to 1944 he was employed at General Electric Company in Schenectady.
He served as commissioner of Assessment and Taxation for the City of Gloversville from 1958 to 1962, when he was appointed deputy commissioner of Social Services for the County of Fulton, also serving as director of Social Services at the same time. He was later appointed commissioner of Social Services and served until his retirement in 1976.
He was a member of the North Main Street United Methodist Church of Gloversville where he previously taught Sunday School for 20 years and was currently serving on the finance committee. Also a member of the Gloversville Foresters and Johnstown Moose Lodges. A former member of the Gloversville YWCA Board of Trustees, and the Board of Directors of the Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens Center of Gloversville. For many years he was a member of the Board of Directors of AAA of Fulton County, currently AAA Northway of which he was recently president.
Mr. Hill bowled in many area bowling leagues, and in his younger years was a semi-professional baseball pitcher. He later was an umpire for 15 years at local baseball and softball games.
He married Ruth Hobbs on Nov. 10, 1940. She died Sept. 20, 1985. Mr. Hill is survived by his daughter, Linda Lunman of Gloversville; two grandchildren and several cousins.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Walrath & Bushouer Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Steven Clunn, pastor of the North Main Street United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda.
Memorial contributions may be made to the North Main Street United Methodist Church, Gloversville.
