Homer Douglas
July 27, 1996
Homer F. Douglas, 85, of Route 5S, died at home Saturday after a short illness.
Born in Stark, Herkimer County, on Sept. 27, 1910, he was the son of Howard and Veda Galusha Douglas. He was educated at the Dutchtown Country School in Minden. He was a lifelong area resident.
He was a dairy farmer in Minden all his life until retiring in 1993.
Mr. Douglas was of the Lutheran faith and a member of the Holstein Fresion Association.
His wife, Rosa Schlotzhauer Douglas, whom he married March 27, 1937, died Aug. 5, 1994.
Survivors include four sons, August P. Douglas and Howard F. Douglas, both of Little Falls, Gerald D. Douglas of Fort Plain and George G. Douglas of Stephentown; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a grandson; August Douglas Jr., in August 1984.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St. Fort Plain, with the Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating. Burial will be in Springfield Center Cemetery, East Springfield, Otsego County.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service, Box 126, Canajoharie, N.Y. 13317.

Helena Gardiner
April 18, 1996
Helena Gardiner, 101, former resident of County Club Lane, Fort Johnson and summer resident of Wells, died April 18 at the Greenbrook Nursing Home in St. Petersburg, Fla. where she resided.
A graveside memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Green Hill Cemetery in Amsterdam with her nephew, the Rev. Gordon Marcellus, officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.

Beverly Brundige
July 28, 1996
Mrs. Beverly Ann Brundige, 58, of 36 W. Eighth Ave., Gloversville, died Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a short illness.
Mrs. Brundige was born Dec. 19, 1937 in Gloversville and was the daughter of Joseph A. and Eva Geraldine DeMars Beaulieu. She lived in the Gloversville area all of her life and attended Gloversville schools.
She was a homemaker and was a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Gloversville.
She married Fred Brundige on Jan. 23, 1954.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, Fred Brundige Jr. of Erie, Pa. and Raymond Brundige of Johnstown; one daughter, Lori Lynn Gallagher of Brackney, Pa.; two brothers, Joseph A. Beaulieu Jr. of Benson and Richard Beaulieu of Schenectady; three grandchildren; Michael and Joseph Brundige and Shawna Gallagher, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Walrath & Bushouer Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, N. Kingsboro Ave., Gloversville with the Rev. Thomas Boyle, Administrator, as Celebrant. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Box 261, Gloversville, 12078.

Carmen Fernandez
July 28, 1996
Mrs. Carmen Fernandez, 63, of Division Street, died Sunday.
Mrs. Fernandez was born in Moca, Dominican Republic, on Mar. 9, 1933, the daughter of Belarmino and Maria Gardia. She moved to New York City in 1969 and worked for a jewelry company there before coming to Amsterdam in 1988. She was a member of Secondo Sinagoga Penticostal .
Survivors include three daughters, Maria Rodriguez, of New York City, Carmen Mendoza of Brooklyn and Jaqueline Rivera of Amsterdam; and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home, where a service will be held at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Luis Torres officiating.

David Tyree
July 27, 1996
David Tyree, 41, of 28 S. Main St., Batavia, died Saturday at his home.
Born Nov. 28, 1954, in Mount Sterling, Kent., he was the son of John and Ruby Tyree of Johnstown.
He was a 1975 graduate of Fonda-Fultonville Central School and attended Genesee Community College in Batavia. He resided in Batavia for the past 19 years.
He was a former member of the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his parents, John and Ruby Tyree; two sisters, Martha Fields of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. and Patricia Johnson of Johnstown; one brother, Michael Tyree of Iowa, La., and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Claudia Tyree, who died Aug. 4, 1944.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Gilmartin Funeral Home, 329-333 W. Main St., Batavia.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New York State School for the Blind in Batavia.

George Svolos
July 28, 1996
George Svolos, 71, of Route 29, died Sunday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a short illness.
Born in Johnstown, Mr. Svolos was a lifelong area resident. For 34 years, he owned and operated the Farm Fresh Market until retiring in 1990.
An U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Svolos received two Purple Hearts.
He was a life member and former treasurer of the Sir William Johnson Volunteer Fire Department and was active in the Sir William Johnson 4-H Club, Joseph's House and Shelter in Troy, the Regional Food Bank in Latham and the Firemen's Bowling League.
Mr. Svolos was a member of the former Royal Mountain Moonlighters Snowmobile Club and the Town of Johnstown Democratic Club.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Alter Svolos, whom he married Dec. 24, 1947; a son, William Svolos of Johnstown; three daughters, Nikki Ann Svolos of Carlisle, Sharon Svolos of West Lebanon and Stephanie Blowers of Gloversville; a sister, Eleanor Gardner of Albany, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Edward Brado
July 27, 1996
Edward B. Brado, 71, of Route 163, died Saturday at his home.
Born Aug. 4, 1924 in Clay, Onondaga County, he was the son of William H. and Mabel H Warren Brado and was educated in St. Johnsville schools. He lived in this area most of his life.
He was a heavy equipment operator for the state Department of Transportation in Fultonville for 35 years, retiring in 1981.
An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Brado was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3275.
He married Joanne Knoeck Brado on Sept. 7, 1946. She died Nov. 16, 1990.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara J. Barker of Fort Plain and Catherine Brado of West Winfield, Herkimer County; a brother, William Brado of Browns Mills, N.J.; a sister, Hazel Teeter of Richfield, Ohio; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Private graveside services were conducted in Fort Plain Cemetery with the VFW Memorial Squad conducting graveside military honors. Services were conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Digman. There were no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service, Box 126, Canajoharie 13317.
Arrangements were by the Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home.

Doris Stone
July 26, 1996
Mrs. Doris Crowley Stone, 82, of Terhune Avenue, Branford, formerly of Fultonville, died Friday at the Waltrous Nursing Center in Madison, Conn., after a long illness.
Born May 5, 1914 in Parishville, St. Lawrence County, she was the daughter of James B. & Mildred Copeland Crowley. She was educated in Parishville schools and graduated from the Potsdam Normal School.
She was employed as an accountant in New York City for many years until her retirement.
Her husband, Elbert Stone, whom she married in 1935, died in 1973.
Survivors include two sons, David Stone of Fultonville and Roger Stone of Branford; two sisters, Ruth Planty of North Syracuse and Beverly Miglietta of Fairfield, Conn.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, with the Rev. Karen Patterson, pastor of the Fonda Reformed Church, officiating.
Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Fairview Cemetery, Parishville.
Memorial contributions may be made to charity.

Daisy Rupert
July 28, 1996
Daisy Rupert, 91, formerly of Johnstown, died Sunday at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility.
Born in Johnstown, Miss Rupert attended local schools. She moved to the home in 1988.
She was a glove worker at the former Ireland and Cresendoe glove companies of Johnstown, retiring in 1962.
Miss Rupert was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Johnstown.
Survivors include two nieces, Patricia Abbott and Arlene Miller, both of Johnstown.
The service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown.
A calling hour will precede the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.
Memorial contributions may be made to charity.

Edward Gardenier
July 20, 1996
Dr. Edward Gardenier, 71, of Amsterdam, formerly of Montvale, N.J., died July 20 at home.
Born in Montvale, N.J., Dr. Gardenier attended Northampton, Mass., Preparatory School and later the Citadel. He was a cum laude graduate of the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery in 1953. Subsequently, he interned at Brook Army Hospital in Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
During World War II, he served with the Navy and during the Korean War, he served with the Army.
Dr. Gardenier maintained a dental practice in Westwood, N.J., until retiring and moving to Amsterdam to become a tree farmer.
For nearly 20 years, he also was a firefighter in Montvale. He served as chief from 1973 to 1974 and again from 1978 to 1979.
Dr. Gardenier was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Woodcliff Lake, N.J.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Nimmo Gardenier; a daughter, Nancy Jean Gardenier of Amsterdam; and five grandchildren.
Services were held July 24 in New Jersey.
Burial was in Pascack Reformed Church Cemetery, Park Ridge, N.J.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Cranesville Reformed Church.
Visitation will follow the service at the Cranesville Fire Department.
Memorial contributions may be made to charity.
Arrangements were by the Robert Spearing Funeral Home, Park Ridge.

Alma Fudger
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda for Alma Fudger, who died Nov. 5, 1995 in Bisbee, Ariz.
Arrangements are by the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker St., Gloversville.

Michael Hill
July 28, 1996
Michael Hill, 42, of East State Street in Gloversville, died Sunday at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
Born in Kings County, Mr. Hill attended Willowbrook State School before moving to Lexington Center in 1988.
He worked for the Lexington Day Treatment Center.
Survivors include two brothers, Ricky and Ronnie Hill, both of Kings County; and a sister, Didi Hill of Kings County.
A service will be held at noon today at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave.
Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 10 this morning to noon, prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lexington Center.
