Emma Mae Persse
May 9, 1997
Mrs. Emma Mae Persse, 70, of Route 30 A, Fonda, died Friday evening at her home after a long illness.
She was born in Amsterdam on Jan. 25, 1927, the daughter of Alton and Lula Mae Henry Dillenbeck.
Mrs. Persse was educated in Fonda and attended the Gloversville Business School. She was a teacher's aid in the Fonda-Fultonville School District for 27 years before retiring in 1992.
She was a member of the Caughnawaga D.A.R., Fonda Chapter, a committee member of the Little Red Schoolhouse Museum in Fonda and also a member of the F.O.N.D.A. (Friends Organized for a Nicer Dwelling Area)
Mrs. Persse was a member of the Fonda Reformed Church for 57 years. For the past 48 years she was a Sunday school teacher and most recently serving as superintendent. She was also active in many church organizations and prayer groups.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Persse, whom she married Oct. 23, 1946; a son Thomas R. Persse of Fonda; a daughter, Nancy Persse-Dence of Fonda; a sister, Eunice D. Bethel of Johnstown; a granddaughter, Katie Elizabeth Dence; two nephews and several cousins.
She was predeceased by a brother, Alton H. Dillenbeck, Jr.
Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville.
The funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m Tuesday at the Fonda Reformed Church.
The interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fonda Reformed Church or to the American cancer society, care of the funeral home.

Wilhelmina Ritchie
May 9, 1997
Mrs. Wilhelmina Miller Ritchie, 90, formerly of Frances Street, Amsterdam, died Friday evening at the Bethesda North Hospital in Montgomery, Ohio.
Born April 2, 1907 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Hubert and Wilhelmina Grade Miller. She resided in Amsterdam for most of her life. She had resided with her daughter since 1987 in Middletown, Ohio.
Mrs. Ritchie was a homemaker.
Mrs. Ritchie was a member of St. Monica Court No. 61, Order of the Amaranth of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam Senior Citizens.
She was a communicant of the United Methodist Church of Hagaman.
She married Thomas D. Ritchie in 1950. He died March 22, 1984.
Mrs. Ritchie is survived by her daughter, Margaret Helen Pankau of Middletown, Ohio; two grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, with the Rev. John Becker officiating.
Interment will be in Hagaman Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the United Methodist Church of Hagaman.

Cecelia Anderson
May 11, 1997
Cecelia Anderson, 90, a resident of the Baptist Retirement Center in Scotia, formerly of Golf Course Road, Amsterdam, died Sunday at the center after a long illness.
Born Nov. 18, 1906 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of John and Frances Bojanka Andrzejewski. She was a lifelong area resident and was educated in local schools.
Mrs. Anderson was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church.
Mrs. Anderson is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place, followed at 9 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stanislaus Church.
Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Josephine Trzaskos
May 12, 1997
Josephine K. Trzaskos, 81, formerly of the Sarah Jane Sanford Home for the Elderly, Guy Park Avenue, died this morning at the Montgomery Meadows Residential Health Care Facility.
Born Feb. 1, 1916 in Amsterdam, she was a daughter of Paul and Mary Skaradek Trzaskos. She attended local schools and lived in Amsterdam before moving to Schenectady, where she lived for 30 years before returning to Amsterdam in 1981 upon her retirement. She was employed for many years at General Electric Co. in Schenectady.
She was a member of the Good Shepherd Polish National Catholic Church and the M&K Society of the church. She was also a member of the GE Women's Club and the GE Quarter Century Club. She was also a member of the Annie Shaffer Senior Citizens Center in Schenectady.
She is survived by five brothers, John Trzaskos and Casimir Trzaskos, both of Amsterdam; Matthew Trzaskos of Pine Lake and Florida, Frank Trzaskos of Coventry, Conn. and Paul Trzaskos of Sharon Springs; three sisters, Helen Bogatka of Schenectady, Irene Powell of Scotia and Frances Mochrie of Sarasota, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Good Shepherd Polish National Catholic Church.
Interment will be in Good Shepherd Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Shepherd Polish National Catholic Church or to Hospice of Amsterdam.
Arrangements are by the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam.

Eugenie Farhart
May 10, 1997
Mrs. Eugenie Farhart, 85, of Dean Street, Gloversville, died Saturday at her home.
Mrs. Farhart was born in Beirut and came to Gloversville in 1930.
She and her husband owned and operated the Farhart Grocery Store at 106 E. Fulton St. for more than 40 years before retiring.
She married Fay Farhart on June 22, 1930. He died in 1965.
Survivors include a son, George J. Farhart of Gloversville; two daughters, Georgette Deraney of Wayne, N.J., and Marguerite Potter of Oneonta; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Fulton County, 73 Main St., or to Nathan Littauer Hospital and Nursing Home, 99 East St., both in Gloversville.

Rita Boynton
May 10, 1997
Mrs. M. Rita Boynton, 97, of Gloversville, died Saturday at the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility.
Mrs. Boynton was born in St. Marys, Pa., and attended school there. She lived for several years in the Buffalo area before coming to Gloversville in 1931, where she resided for more than 40 years. She moved to Mayfield in 1969.
Mrs. Boynton was employed as a nurse's aide for 17 years at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gloversville, the Bannertown Senior Citizens Center and the American Association of Retired Persons.
Her husband, Walter H. Boynton, died in 1969.
Survivors include a son, Walter J. Boynton of Venice, Fla.; a daughter, Lois Rosi of East Greenbush; a brother, Alfred Sarginger of Cleveland; two sisters, Esther Kunsch of St. Marys and Lucille Schalcher of Maryland; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer.
Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Gwendolyn Wilcox
May 10, 1997
Miss Gwendolyn N. Wilcox, 90, of Chapel Street, Cobleskill, died Saturday at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County.
She was a graduate of the Plattsburgh Normal School and later received two master's degrees from Columbia Teachers College.
Miss Wilcox was employed for 41 years at Boonton High School, first as a business teacher and later as a guidance counselor. She retired in 1969 as dean of students.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Boonton, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Richford, Vt.
Survivors include a sister, Alma Wilcox of Cobleskill.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home, 1 Chapel St., Cobleskill. Burial will be in West Village Cemetery, West Charleston, Vt.
A calling hour will precede the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation of Northeastern New York, 1717 Central Ave., Albany, 12205.

Kevin Williams
May 10, 1997
Kevin R. Williams, 29, of Gravel Switch, Kent., a former resident of Canajoharie, died Saturday as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Lebanon, Kent.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Canajoharie.

Rose Kerible
May 20, 1997
Rose Kerible, 82, formerly of Jay Street, Amsterdam, died Tuesday evening at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility. She was a resident of the Hillcrest Home.
Born Dec. 24, 1914 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Karl and Kristyna Warsaga Weklar.
She was educated in local schools and was employed for 50 years as a housekeeper for the Everett Singer family until retiring.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.
She married Peter Kerible on June 1, 1935. He died Nov. 1, 1967. She was also predeceased by a son, Peter Jr., in 1938.
Survivors include two daughters, Sylvia Milosek of Saugerties and Sandra Hidde of Amsterdam; two sisters, Josephine Vitale and Ann Martin, both of Amsterdam; a brother, John Weklar of Albany; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Institute Fund.

Lyman Saltsman
May 19, 1997
Lyman Jay Saltsman Sr., 74, of Persse Road, Fonda, died Monday at Saratoga Hospital after being stricken.
A lifelong area resident, Mr. Saltsman was born in Mohawk and attended Berryville and Fonda schools.
In his earlier years, he worked for Dueslers Garage in Ephratah.
During World War II, Mr. Saltsman served with the U.S. Navy aboard the battleship U.S.S. South Dakota in the Atlantic and the Pacific. He was the recipient of two Bronze Stars.
After his discharge, Mr. Saltsman worked for the state Department of Environmental Conservation, and later for Parson's Ford Garage in Gloversville. In 1956, he began working for the former General Telephone Co. in Johnstown, retiring in 1981.
Mr. Saltsman was an accordion player, and at the time of his death was a member of the Bleeker Mountain Folks Band.
He was a member of the Fonda Reformed Church.
Mr. Saltsman was a member of the National Rifle Association, Johnstown Moose Lodge, Fulton County Antique Car Club, National Muzzleloaders Association, American Association of Retired Persons and the Coon Hollow Engine Club.
He married Elizabeth Knott Saltsman on Aug. 23, 1969.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Lyman Jay Saltsman Jr. of Lake Luzerne.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital.
