Frederick Arthur Williams Sr., 80, of Chestnut Street, Gloversville, died Tuesday at home.
Born and educated in Gloversville, Mr. Williams was a lifelong area resident. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Williams worked for various area leather companies and later for the Gloversville Highway Department for more than 15 years, retiring in 1983. He was also employed by Green Thumb in Schoharie and Robison & Smith in Gloversville.
He married Betty Dorman Williams on Jan. 26, 1946.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons, Roger, Jonathan and Frederick A.Williams Jr., all of Gloversville, Roy Williams of Susquehanna, Pa.; five daughters, Shelby Schumacher, Judith Cooper, Mary K. Jones and Rebecca Paul, all of Gloversville, and Debie Foreman of Mayfield; three sisters, Edna Gregory of Florida, Alice Bartholomew of Illinois and Ruth Williams of Averill Park; 35 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 4 to 7 today at the funeral home,.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice.
Maria Gonzales
May 19, 1997
Maria Gonzales, 80, of Lewis Street, Paterson, N.J., formerly of Amsterdam, died Monday evening at St. Joseph's Hospital following a long illness.
Born Jan. 15, 1917 in Yauco, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of Domingo Gonzales and Manuela Ruiz Gonzales. She was educated in Puerto Rico before moving to Amsterdam many years ago.
Following the death of her first husband and five children in a tragic Amsterdam fire in 1955, Mrs. Gonzales returned to Puerto Rico. She moved to Paterson three years ago to make her home with her surviving daughter.
Mrs. Gonzales was a communicant of St. Michael The Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.
Her first husband was Juan Rivera and she later married Geraldo Santiago, who died in 1988.
She is survived by her daughter, Margara Rivera of Paterson; four brothers, Domingo Gonzales of Walton, Fransisco Gonzales of South Carolina, Eugenio Gonzales of Amsterdam and Hector Gonzales of Fonda; a grandson, Rafael Cedeno of Paterson; eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 at St. Michael The Archangel Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Lawrence J. Decker will officiate. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
William Gormley
May 19, 1997
William T. Gormley, 77, of Venice, Fla., died Monday.
He was born March 30, 1920 in Cohoes.
An avid golfer, one of seven brothers, "The Golfing Gormleys" dominated the local and New York golf scene from the 1940s to the 1960s.
A veteran of World War II, he served as first sergeant and saw action in Italy and North Africa.
After the war he held government positions at Scotia Naval Depot and Watervliet Arsenal until his retirement in 1972.
He worked and played golf professionally throughout the 1970s.
Mr. Gormley retired to Venice, Fla., in 1975.
He was a member of Jacaranda Golf Club and the Waterford Golf Club.
He was also a member of BPO Elks and the American Legion.
He was also a member of Epiphany Parish, Venice, Fla..
For the last 20 years, he worked as a golf club repair and as a clubmaker.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Dorothy; a son, William of Scotia; two brothers, Robert Gormley of Schenectady and Tom Gormley of Whiting, N.J., a sister, Helen Myers of Clifton Park and two grandsons, Shane and Cavan Gormley.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Helen Shelly
May 21, 1997
Mrs. Helen J. Shelly, 78, of Elizabeth Street, Amsterdam, died Wednesday at her home after being stricken.
Born Nov. 15, 1918 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Stanislaw and Frances Wyszomirski Jaracz, and was a lifelong city resident. She was educated in Amsterdam schools and was employed by Ward Products as an inspector until retiring several years ago.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church, its Rosary Society, and was a charter member of the Irish American Club Auxiliary.
She married William F. Shelly in 1941. He died in 1991.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia S. Conrad, a sister, Frances Wojcik, both of Amsterdam, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the Riley Mortuary Inc. 110 Division St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to MontgomeryCounty Meals for the Elderly, 25 Church St., or St. Mary's Institute, Upper Church Street.
Rose Kerible
May 20, 1997
Rose Kerible, 82, formerly of Jay Street, died Tuesday evening at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility. She was a resident of the Hillcrest Home.
Born Dec. 24, 1914 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Karl and Kristyna Warsaga Weklar. She was educated in local schools.
Mrs. Kerible was employed for 50 years as a housekeeper for the Everett Singer family until retiring.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.
She married Peter Kerible on June 1, 1935. He died Nov. 1, 1967. She was also predeceased by a son, Peter Kerrible Jr., in 1938.
Survivors include two daughters, Sylvia Milosek of Saugerties and Sandra Hiddle of Amsterdam, two sisters, Josephine Vitale of Amsterdam and Ann Martin of Amsterdam; a brother, John Weklar of Albany; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 at St. Mary's Church. Interment is in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson.

Mary Farnan
May 21, 1997
Mrs. Mary T. Farnan, 64, of the Trackside Homes, formerly of Gloversville, died Wednesday at home after a long illness.
Born and educated in Stillwater, Mrs. Farnan was also educated at Albany Business College.
She worked for the Park Davis Pharmaceutical Co. in Menands for a short time before becoming a homemaker.
Mrs. Farnan was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.
She married Thomas J. Farnan on July 18, 1953.
In addition to her husband, survivors include three daughters, Colleen M Farnan of Malta, Joyce C. Vietri of Naperville, Ill., and Mary Beth Papa of Johnstown; and a sister, Elizabeth Dunham of Schaghticoke.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Immaculate Conception Church, Cayadutta and Warren streets.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher St.
Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Stillwater.

Dorothy Davis
May 21, 1997
Dorothy W. Davis, 88, of 44 Bridge St., Broadalbin, died Wednesday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Born June 18, 1908 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Myndert and Ella Putman Wemple.
She resided in Perth as a child, and then all her life in Broadalbin.
She was a graduate of Broadalbin High School and Oneonta Normal School.
Mrs. Davis was employed as an elementary school teacher at Perth School for three years, then at Broadalbin Elementary School for 32 years.
She was a member of the Broadalbin United Methodist Church for 70 years, where she was previously a member of the Financial Committee, the Administrative Board, the Women's Society of Christian Service, and a former supervisor of the Sunday School program.
She was also a member of Broadalbin Chapter No. 487 Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years, and the New York State and Fulton County Retired Teachers Associations.
She married Orton S. Davis on Aug. 23, 1933. He died Aug. 22, 1985.
Survivors include a son, Philip O. Davis of High Point, N.C., three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Jeffords Chapel, 85 W. Main St., Broadalbin, with the Rev. Patricia Bush, pastor of the Broadalbin United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery in Broadalbin.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Watson Vollmer
May 22, 1997
Watson Vollmer, 84, of 2 Finlay St., Amsterdam, died Thursday after being stricken at his home.
Born May 4, 1913 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Andrew and Grace Blanchard Vollmer. He was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools.
Mr. Vollmer worked as a mechanic for 36 years at Mohasco Industries. He was then employed as a security guard for the State University of New York at Albany for 12 years before retiring in 1978.
He was of the Methodist faith.
Mr. Vollmer was a former member of the Bigelow Weavers and was also a member of the Perth Senior Citizens.
He married Grace Keator on July 2, 1937.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Thomas Vollmer of Amsterdam, two daughters, Linda Maryanopolis of Colonie and Vicki Vollmer of Fort Johnson; a brother, George Vollmer of Scotia;, two sisters, Katherine Iacano of Amsterdam and Grace Reuter of St. Augustine, Fla.'; five grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, with the Rev. Cal Briggs-Harris officiating. Burial will be in Hagaman Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the local chapter of the Society to Prevent Cruelty to Animals.
Frederick Ellers Jr.
May 20, 1997
Frederick N. Ellers Jr., 73, of Atlanta, Ga., died Tuesday.
Born April 4, 1924 in Harrison, N.J., he was the son of Frederick and Margaret Valente Ellers. He moved to Amsterdam as a child and was educated in local schools, graduating from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1942.
He also attended the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and spent his seniuor year tourning Europe and the Balkans. Upon graduation from SUNY-Plattsburgh, he pursued a post-graduate degree at SUNY-Albany.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served aboard the aircraft carrier Yorktown.
He was employed as a news announcer at radio station WIRD in Lake Placid for many years and he was also a professional photographer, owning two newspapers. He was also employed as a teacher in Los Angeles, Mexico, Taiwan and China.
Mr. Ellers was extensively involved in musical theater productions, including performances with the Lake Placid Center for Music, Drama and Art, The Galway Players, The Schenectady Light Opera and others.
He married the former Audrey Nolte in 1951 at St. Mary's Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Andrea and Margaret of Santa Monica, Calif. and Gabrielle of Amsterdam; five sons, Fred Ellers III of East Hampton, Hansz and Eric of Pecos, N.M.; Gerard of Lake Placid and Kurt of Jersey City, N.J.; a brother, Richard of Warren, Ohio; two grandsons and three granddaughters.
Funeral arrangements were by the Honis A. Ward Chapel, Stone Mountain, Ga. Burial will be in Pecos, N.M.
