Harold E. Whitlock
June 17, 1997
Harold E. Whitlock, 94, of North Road, Benson, died Tuesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a short illness.
Born Dec. 31, 1902 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Edward and Minnie Bramer Whitlock. He was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He lived in Amsterdam for most of his life, until moving to Benson 21 years ago.
Mr. Whitlock was employed by General Electric in Schenectady for more than 30 years, retiring in 1968.
He was a member of Fish House Masonic Lodge 298 in Northville and then Artisan Masonic Lodge in Amsterdam. He was also an honorary member of the Northville Fish & Game Club and was a ham radio operator.
He served as Benson town historian.
He was a member and former deacon at First Baptist Church in Amsterdam.
Mr. Whitlock served many years as treasurer of the Cerebral Palsy Center in Amsterdam.
He married Mary Rocco Whitlock on Sept. 2, 1939.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Robert Whitlock of Northville, three step-grandchildren and one niece.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge St. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the Masons will conduct a service at 7:30 p.m.

Bruce Kennerknecht
May 24, 1997
A memorial service for Bruce Holland Kennerknecht, who died May 24, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain.

Elsie D. Vosburgh
June 19, 1997
Mrs. Elsie Daggett Vosburgh, 71, of Oneonta, died Thursday at her home after a long illness.
Born Sept. 7, 1925 in Broadalbin, she was the daughter of James M. and Jennie Codding Daggett. She was a graduate of Perth Central School, the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and was later engaged in graduate studies at Syracuse University.
For several years, she was a home economics teacher at Estee Middle School in Gloversville and also at the Roscoe Conkling School in Utica.
She married Donald R. Vosburgh on Jan. 15, 1949 in Fort Plain. The couple attended the presidential inauguration in Washington on their honeymoon.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Mark E. Vosburgh of Hudson, Ohio; a daughter, Melanie Anthony of Waldwick, N.J.; two brothers, James W. Daggett and Cecil N. Daggett, both of Amsterdam, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no funeral service or calling hours. Her body will be cremated.
Memorial contributions may be made to an animal care facility of one's choice.

Thomas Zeppieri
June 18, 1997
Thomas A. Zeppieri, 24, of 372 Guy Park Ave.., Amsterdam, died Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy.
Born Aug. 25, 1972 in Troy, he was the son of Thomas and Margaret Mead Zeppieri. He was a 1990 graduate of Amsterdam High School and a 1992 graduate of Hudson Valley Community College.
Mr. Zeppieri was employed as an electronic technician at Capital Amusement Co. in Mechanicville.
He is survived by his parents.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Riley Mortuary, 110 Division St., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 156 E. Main St. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S. Main St., Mechanicville, and from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Riley Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Mary Estes
June 19, 1997
Mrs. Mary A. Estes, 86, of Broad Street, Fultonville, died Thursday at her home following a long illness.
Born May 7, 1911 in Bolton Landing, she was the daughter of George and Grace Pearl Howard Crockett. She moved to Fultonville as a young child and lived in the area since that time.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Estes was a member of the Charleston Christian Church and was also a member and past president of the Women's Christian Temperance Union.
She married Harold G. Estes on Oct. 9, 1929. He died in 1981.
Survivors include four sons, Vernon E. Estes of Carlisle, Pa., Robert A. Estes of Sprakers, Harold G. Estes Jr. of St. Johnsville, and Phillip C. Estes of Palm Bay, Fla.; two daughters, Rose Marie Ring of Fonda and Kathryn A. Smith of Carlisle, Pa.; three brothers, Ellsworth Crockett of Ira, Vt., Howard Crockett of Concord, N.H., and Horace Crockett of Rockville, Conn.; 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Charleston Christian Church with the Revs. Phillip Sears and David Howell officiating. Burial will be in Charleston Christian Church Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or the Charleston Christian Church.
Arrangements are by the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home Inc., 15 Main St., Fultonville.

Monsignor Edward R. Glavin
June 21, 1997
The Reverend Monsignor Edward R. Glavin, 84, pastor emeritus of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam, died Saturday at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany after a brief illness.
Born Oct. 24, 1912 in Albany, he was the son of James E. and Anna Redmond Glavin.
In his youth, he was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Parish in Troy and was a 1928 graduate of St. John's High School in Rensselaer.
He was a graduate of Georgetown University and the American College in Rome, and held graduate degrees from three Roman universities, including a doctorate in philosophy from Urban University, a licentiate in sacred theology from the Gregorian University, and a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Institute of Canon and Civil Law of the Lateran University.
Monsignor Glavin was ordained into the priesthood on the Feast of Immaculate Conception, Dec. 8, 1935, in the Chapel of Our Lady of Humility of the American College in Rome.
In addition to serving the church, Glavin also served on the faculty of Catholic Central High School in Troy from 1936-1943. He was Superior of the Graduate House of the American College in Rome from 1946 to 1949 and was chaplain of the College of St. Rose from 1946 to 1960.
In 1960, Monsignor Glavin became the principal of St. Mary's Institute in Amsterdam and directed the financing, construction and initial programming of Bishop Scully High School. He was appointed pastor of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam in 1964.
An infantry chaplain in World War II, Monsignor Glavin served with the American Long Range Penetration Unit in the Burma jungle known as the famed Merrill's Marauders and the Mars task force. In China, he served with the Chinese Combat Command and later with the Shanghai Base Command.
He directed the Tribunal of the Albany Roman Catholic Diocese for 11 years, wrote the original Due Process Procedure for the Due Process Board and served on the Due Process Board for an initial term. He served several terms as Diocesan Consultant and for 25 years was Bishop's Vicar for Religious and was a member of the National Conference of Vicars for Religious. He wrote the Constitution of the National Conference and was chairman of the Constitution Committee. He was also an advisor in the founding of the Consultation Center of the Diocese of Albany and ex-officio served on the board of that center for 20 years, representing the bishop of the diocese.
Monsignor Glavin was appointed pastor of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam in 1964.
Monsignor Glavin was also a founding trustee of Fulton-Montgomery Community College, serving on its board for 21 years. He was also a founding member of Fulmont Development Facility and served on its board until retirement. He was a member of St. Mary's Hospital advisory board, and served on various committees of the Urban Renewal Agency and the Amsterdam Arterial program.
He was a trustee of the Montgomery County Historical Society and president of the Amsterdam Clergy Association. For 40 years he was editor of the American College in Rome alumni newspaper and for many years was chairman of the Executive Committee of the Alumni Association of the American College. He was national chaplain of the Merrill's Marauders Association and of the China/Burma/India Veterans Association.
Survivors include a sister, Anne McGuirk of Albany, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 N. Allen St., Albany.
Monsignor Glavin will lie in state from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of St. Mary's Church, 156 E. Main St., Amsterdam.
A reception of the body will be conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Church, followed by a Mass to be celebrated at 7 p.m. by the Rev. James Gullet, pastor of St. Mary's Church.
A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Church with The Most Rev. Howard J. Hubbard, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Albany officiating.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church.
Arrangements are by the Riley Mortuary Inc., 110 Division St., Amsterdam.

Thomas Donlon
June 19, 1997
Thomas F. Donlon, 67, of Pennington, N.J., died Thursday at the Medical Center of Virginia in Richmond.
He was born in Amsterdam and had lived in New Jersey for the past 33 years.
Mr. Donlon earned a bachelor's degree from Union College in Schenectady, a master's degree from Fordham University, doctorate degree from Columbia University and his law degree from Rutgers University.
He was employed by Educational Testing Service in Lawrenceville, N.J. for 25 years before retiring. He was director of test development at Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, N.J. and operated a private law practice in Pennington.
He was a member of the Pennington Business and Professional Association, the Amsterdam Educational Research Association, the National Council on Measurement in Education and the American Association for Higher Education. He was also a trustee of the North Eastern Educational Research Association.
He was married to Jeanne M. Donlon.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his step-mother, Ethel Donlon of Amsterdam; a son, Mark F. Donlon of Lambertville, N.J.; a daughter, Karen Letonoff of Rehoboth Beach, Del.; three brothers, Charles Donlon of Seneca Falls, John Donlon of Ledyard, Conn., and Edward Donlon of Wellsley, Mass., and one granddaughter.
Funeral services were private. A memorial service will be announced.

John Mihalik
June 20, 1997
John G. Mihalik, 75, of Crescendoe Road, Johnstown, died Friday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a long illness.
Born and educated in Johnstown, he was a self-employed leather worker for several years.
He was a member of St. Anthony's Church and the Johnstown Moose Lodge. He was a former member of Sokol.
He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Force.
He married Valeria Hlozansky Mihalik on June 12, 1934.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Dianne Spawn and Linda M. Keeler, both of Johnstown; a son, John D. Mihalik of Johnstown; a sister, Irene Kubinia of Johnstown; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Church. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Sunday at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, Main and Melcher streets, Johnstown.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Johnstown Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Doreen Yates
June 20, 1997
Doreen Yates, 89, formerly of Fultonville, died Friday at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Frederick, Mich., she was a graduate of Fultonville High School.
She was employed at one time as a waitress and later at Crescendoe Glove Co., retiring several years ago.
She was a member of Fultonville Reformed Church and its Women's Guild. She was also a member of the Charleston Historical Society.
Survivors include three nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown. Burial will be in Maple Avenue Cemetery.
A calling hour will precede the service at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
