Mr. Joseph J. Pawloski, 79, of Third Avenue, Gloversville, formerly of Grand Street, Amsterdam, died Thursday morning at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
Born Sept. 3, 1918, in Amsterdam, he was the son of John and Frances Kosciow Pawlowski. He attended local schools and Russell Sage College in Troy.
Mr. Pawloski was employed by the former Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Co. For several years, he was a machinist at the General Electric Co. in Schenectady, before retiring in 1978. He also held licenses as a real estate and insurance broker. He was also a Notary Public.
He was a member of the Church of St. John the Baptist in Amsterdam. He also was a member of the St. Casimir's Seniors.
He was first married to Theresa Bojarczuk Pawloski. She died Sept. 29, 1978. He then married Frances Orleanski Skretkowicz Pawloski. She died March 27, 1995.
Mr. Pawloski then married Norma Davis Pawloski on April 25, 1996.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, John Pawloski of Hagaman, James Pawloski of Glenfield and Joseph M. Pawloski of Mayfield; three daughters, Mary Anne Page of Tribes Hill, Stephanie Siwik of Mayfield and Theresa Pawloski of St. Johnsville; 11 step-children, 15 grandchildren, 18 step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren and two nieces and a nephew.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Church of St. John the Baptist, Van Derveer Street. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Earl Hartig
January 26, 1998
Earl Hartig, 82, of Francis Street, Amsterdam, died Monday morning at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born Oct. 4, 1915 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Louis and Clara Hartig and was a city resident for all of his life.
During World War II, Mr. Hartig served with the U.S. Navy.
He was employed by Mohasco Industries in Amsterdam for 46 years, most recently as a buyer, retiring in 1980.
Mr. Hartig was a communicant of St. Ann's Episcopal Church of Amsterdam.
He was at one time very active in local bowling and golf leagues.
He married Doris Dreaney on Sept. 20, 1941.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, James Hartig of Danville, Calif.; three grandsons and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. There will be no calling hours.
Cremation will be at Vale Crematory, Schenectady, followed by burial in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Arrangements are by the Betz Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.
Natalie Laizer
January 23, 1998
Natalie Browning Laizer, 72, of Brewster Road, Griswold, died Friday at the Laurel Rose Convalescent Home in Norwich after a short illness.
Born April 23, 1925 in Norwich, she was the daughter of Dr. Frank and Mildred Akerley Browning. She and her husband resided in Somerdale, N.J., for many years before returning to Connecticut in 1975.
After graduating from Griswold High School in 1939, she attended the University of Connecticut's School of Nursing.
Mrs. Laizer worked as a telephone operator during the 1930s and 1940s, as a purchasing agent for Gimball's Department Store, a proprietor for Harambee, and she helped in opening the first Children's Place.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She married Bernard T. Laizer Sr. on Nov. 14, 1947.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Bernard T. Lazier Jr. of Fort Plain; a daughter, Ernestine Stokes of Newport, Vt.; a brother, Frank Browning Jr. of Hanover, N.H.; five grandchildren, a great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. tonight at the Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home, 490 Voluntown Road, Route 138, Jewett City.
Irene Voehringer
January 26, 1998
Mrs. Irene Voehringer, 86, of Goode Street, Ballston Spa, died Monday at the Maplewood Manor after a short illness.
Mrs. Voehringer was a lifelong Ballston Spa resident.
Her husband, Rudolph Voehringer, died in 1970.
Survivors include five daughters, Dorothy Spoonogle and Barbara Voehringer, both of Ballston Lake, Arlene Ostrander of Galway and Martha Baker and Kathy Rybicki, both of Ballston Spa; three sons, Richard Voehringer of Ballston Spa, Robert Voehringer of Easily, S.C., and Frederick Voehringer of Hadley; a brother, Irving Twitchell of Udora, Ark.; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Briggs Cemetery, Ballston.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 25 Hyde Blvd.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ballston Lake Emergency Squad or the Albany unit of the American Diabetes Association.
Donald Peek
January 24, 1998
Donald Guenther Peek, 78, of Vero Beach, Fla., died Saturday at home after a long illness.
Born in Rotterdam Junction, Mr. Peek resided in Schenectady before moving to Florida in 1980.
For 40 years, he worked in the gas turbine department of the General Electric Co. in Schenectady, before retiring.
Mr. Peek was a member of Lakewood Park Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Al Peek of Vero Beach; a daughter, Donna Fairlee of Schenectady; a brother, Allen Peek of Springfield, Va.; two sisters, Margaret Coulter of Roanoke, Va., and Irene Triebel of Venice, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to charity.
Arrangements are by the Lowther Cremation Service.
Theodora Mauger
January 26, 1998
Mrs. Theodora Turner Mauger, 87, of Tower Avenue, Schenectady, died Monday at St. Clare's Hospital.
Born in Burlington, Vt., Mrs. Mauger lived in Schenectady most of her life.
For six years, she was a nurse's aide at the Albany Veterans Administration Hospital, retiring in 1971. Prior to that, Mrs. Mauger worked at the Glendale Nursing Home, St. Clare's Hospital and the General Electric Co.
She was a communicant of Sacred Heart-St. Columba's Roman Catholic Church and a member of its Altar Rosary Society and its Ladies of St. Ann.
Also, Mrs. Mauger was a member of the Eagles Club Women's Auxiliary.
In addition to her husband of 67 years, Philibert Mauger, survivor include two sons, Robert N. Mauger of Royersford, Pa., and Ted Mauger of Clifton Park; a daughter, Sister Phyllis Mauger CSJ of Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville; two brothers, her twin, Theodore Turner of Tampa, Fla.; and Spencer Turner of Florida; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart-St. Columba's Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
Anthony B. Liberis
January 16, 1998
Anthony Benedict Liberis, 80, of Plantation, Fla., died Jan. 16 at his home.
Born in Amsterdam, Mr. Liberis was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School.
During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army as an infantry instructor and attained the rank of second lieutenant.
For 25 years, Mr. Liberis worked for Mohasco Industries in Amsterdam, before moving to Plantation in 1968. After moving to Florida, he worked in the construction and retail sales fields until retiring.
His wife, Veronica Kuras Liberis, died in 1993.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan Hill of Plantation; a brother, Edmond Liberis of Amsterdam; a sister, Ronnie Gizelba of Amsterdam; and two granddaughters.
Funeral services and burial were in Florida.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church, Amsterdam.
Arrangements were by the T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home.
Russell Kelly Sr.
January 27, 1998
Russell Kelly Sr. of Scott Road, Fultonville, died today at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a short illness.
Funeral arrangements, by the A. G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main St., Johnstown, are incomplete and will announced.
Robert J. Nadler Sr.
February 24, 1998
Robert J. Nadler Sr., 81, of Lindbergh Avenue, Amsterdam, died Tuesday morning at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
Born March 5, 1916 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Joseph and Katherine Rector Nadler. He was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School and then went on to Cornell University for one year where he received a degree in dairy management. He later graduated from R.P.I. with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and from Cal-Tech with a degree in aeronautical engineering.
Mr. Nadler was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a second lieutenant.
He was first employed by Beech-Nut Nutrition Corp. in Canajoharie and New York City for several years. After World War II, he was co-owner operator of Nadler Brothers Dairy of Amsterdam until retiring in 1968.
Mr. Nadler was a communicant of Trinity Reformed Church of Amsterdam. He was also a former member of the Elks Club of Amsterdam.
Mr. Nadler married Anne Burns in 1941. She died in 1943. He then married Elizabeth Miller in April 1945. She died Oct. 8, 1976. On Nov. 23, 1978, Mr. Nadler married Gretchen LaBahn.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Robert J. Nadler Jr. of Medford, N.J.; a daughter, Judith Nadler of Siesta Key, Fla.; a step-son, Lewis LaBahn of Amsterdam; two step-daughters, Cheryl Simeone and Deborah Miseno, both of Amsterdam; four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, with the Rev. Dan J. Wheeler officiating. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Margaret Kelleher
February 24, 1998
Mrs. Margaret Kelleher, 99, of the Baptist Retirement Center, Scotia, died Tuesday at the home.
Born in Troy, Mrs. Kelleher was a former clothing factory supervisor. She subsequently became a homemaker and moved to Schenectady. She also lived in Charlton for 24 years with her daughter before moving to the home in 1991.
She was a communicant of St. Helen's Church in Niskayuna.
Mrs. Kelleher was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Glenville.
Her husband, Daniel Kelleher, whom she married in 1922, died in 1958.
Survivors include two sons, William J. Kelleher of Delmar and Daniel F. Kelleher of Poughkeepsie; three daughters, Mary Kelly of Schenectady, Joan Holzhauer of Charlton and Marjorie Shea of New York City; two sisters, Mary Mahoney of Troy and Helen Balon of Charleston, W. Va.; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:15 a.m. Friday at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Route 50, Glenville. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Birthright of Schenectady, 164 LaFayette St., Schenectady, 12305 or the Baptist Retirement Center, 297 Ballston Ave., Scotia, 12302.
Anne P. Hartgraves
January 4, 1998
Mrs. Anne P. Hartgraves, 80, of Tulsa, Okla., died Jan. 4 at the Wood Manor Nursing Facility in Claremore, Okla., after a long illness.
Born Oct. 26. 1917, in Little Falls, she was the daughter of Anna M. and Stephen Pavlus. She was a graduate of Fort Plain High School and the Syracuse School of Nursing. She practiced her profession in North Carolina, California and Tulsa until becoming disabled.
She was the widow of James O. Hartgraves.
Survivors include a sister, Betty Becker of Palatine Bridge; a step-brother, Paul Krutz of Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted in Tulsa.
Graveside services will be conducted in the spring at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Little Falls, under the direction of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie.
