JOSEPH COLLETTI
SHERBURNE - Joseph A. Colletti, 79, of West Hill, Sherburne, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002 after a long illness.
He was born in New York City and moved to Sherburne with his family in 1963. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School, an engineering preparatory school and then received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1945 from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. He received a teaching fellowship in engineering physics from the University of Idaho, and received his professional engineering license in 1952. Joe joined the US Army Corps of Engineers as chief draftsman of the European Theatre of Occupations in Frankfurt, Germany.
His varied engineering experience included: designing airfields for JFK Airport in New York and the Aleutian Islands; designing the structural supports for the first submarine nuclear reactor; planning the construction of the floating Texas Tower oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico; and designing the structural supports for the nuclear missile silos during the Cold War.
Subsequently, he began his own engineering business and consulted on many various projects throughout the state of New York and New Jersey many of which focused on historical preservation and hazardous waste cleanups. He bought and renovated the former Sherburne High School, which brought new employment opportunities to the area.
He is survived by his wife, Fran and children Maria and Louis Guzzetta, Adolph Colletti and Luisa and Chris Hawkins; and five grandchildren: Alexander and Francesca Guzzetta, Joseph, Marc and Taber Colletti and two step grandchildren, Amanda and Chivon Hawkins.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday. Funeral services will be held at St. Malachy’s Church at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at West Hill Cemetery at a later date.

CHARLES WALTZ SR.
WILLOW, ALASKA - Longtime Chenango County resident Charles E. Waltz, Sr., 95, passed away Feb. 15, 2002.
Born in Danbury, Conn. on April 8, 1906. he was the youngest son of George and Ida Kratzer Waltz. He moved to Afton in 1944, later moving to the Otselic Valley region. Always an adventurer, he moved with his oldest son to Alaska in 1987.
Charles was a true entrepreneur. His first real job was that of a milkman; he delivered milk door to door with a horse and buggy. Next, He became a "railroad man." Over the years, he owned farms, a grocery, a fuel distributorship and a logging business. An avid sportsman, he was a member of numerous hunting organizations.
In his retirement, Charles enjoyed a full and active life, hunting, fishing, and trapping. Rarely a day went by that he didn’t take a walk or bicycle ride. Known as Gramps to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was active and involved in their lives. They knew they had come into their own when they beat him at checkers!
Charles was preceded in death by his wife Marie in 1967 and his oldest son, George. He is survived by his sons, Charles E. Waltz Jr. of Willow, Alaska and William F. Waltz of South Otselic, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is dearly missed.
A private family service will be held.
MILDRED COSTISICK
NORWICH - Mildred E. Costisick, 94, life-long resident of Norwich, passed away Monday morning, Feb. 25, 2002 at the home of her nieces in South Cairo.
Funeral service for Mildred will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Glenn Mahaffrey, rector of Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Norwich, will officiate.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2.

CHERYLE BRAMMER
EAST PHARSALIA - Cheryle Joann (Frankllin) Brammer, 59, formerly of East Pharsalia and a 1960 NHS graduate, died Sunday. Feb. 24, 2002 in Roanoke, Va.
She was the daughter of the late Wallace D. and Christina A. Franklin, also now residing in Roanoke, Va.. On April 7, 1962 Cheryle married Elwood Brammer of Tennessee, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Laurie Brammer of Raleigh, N.C. and a son, Timothy Brammer of Marietta, Ga.; her brothers, Norman W. Franklin and wife, Lorraine of Sumter, S.C. and Gary R. Franklin and wife, Kathleen, of Chenango Forks; three aunts, Mrs. Edna Jaquay, Mildred Law and Frances Franklin; and an uncle, Elbridge Franklin, all of Norwich. Several neices, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral arrangements are being made in Roanoke. Details will be available at a later date.
MICHAEL VERES
GILBERTSVILLE - Michael M. Veres, 61, passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002 in Dade City, Fla.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; two daughters, Lynne and Mark Talbot of Gilbertsville and Sheri Gould of DeRuyter; four sons: Richard and Amy Veres of Ludlow, Mass., Shawn Veres of Durham, N.C., Eric Harris of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Larry G. Harris of Baldswinville; a brother, Dean and Helen Veres of Endicott and several grandchildren.
Mr. Veres was a member of the Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association, the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion Post 189.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11 at the Gilbertsville Presbyterian Church.

MILDRED COSTISICK
NORWICH - Mildred E. Costisick, 94, formerly of Norwich and most recently of South Cairo, passed away Monday morning, Feb. 25, 2002 at the home of her niece, Mildred Wolfe, with whom she had lived for the past several years.
Mildred was born in Oxford on Sept. 24, 1907, the daughter of William and Coral (Cummings) Babcock. A graduate of the Del Kader Beauty School of Elmira, she was well-known in the Norwich area as a beautician. For over 25 years, she operated her own beauty shop on Pleasant Street, and was a Norwich resident for all of her adult life. She was also a long-time member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Norwich.
Mildred is survived by many nieces and nephews, including Mildred Wolfe and her husband Fred of South Cairo, where she had made her home for the last several years. She was predeceased by her husbands: Howard Manning, Leo Hynes, and Michael Costisick; by her sisters: Gladys Elwyn, Pearl Richards, and Hazel Keach; and her brothers, William and Kenneth Babcock.
Funeral services for Mildred will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Glenn Mahaffey, rector of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Norwich, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

NORWICH - Funeral services for Marion Norris, who passed away Feb. 15, 2002, were held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Rebekah Sweet, pastor of the Broad St. United Methodist Church, officiated.
Interment followed in the Riverview Cemetery of Oxford, with Rev. Sweet offering the committal prayers. Pallbearers were Marion’s grandsons: Charles Beckwith, Richard Brigham, Richard Davis, Wayne Eldred, and Robert Eldred; and her great grandson, Jessie Murphy.

NORWICH - Funeral services for Margaret Leonard, who passed away Feb. 17, 2002, were held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 21 from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Thomas Taylor, former pastor of the Broad Street United Methodist Church, officiated.
Interment will be at a later date in the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Norwich.
