NORWICH - Memorial services for Rose Scott, who passed away Dec. 15, 2001, were held on at 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2002 from Our Lady of Sorrows Chapel at St. Paul’s Cemetery. The Rev. Douglas Cunningham officiated.
Interment followed in St. Paul’s Cemetery with Rev. Cunningham offering the committal prayers.
JAMES HALL
NORWICH - Committal services for James Hall, who passed away Feb. 22, 2002, were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 17 from the Mt. Hope Cemetery. The Rev. Rebekah Sweet offered the committal prayers with the Rev. Douglas Cunningham also offering a committal prayer.

GERMAN - Committal services for Cecile Campbell, who passed away March 17, 2002, were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 18 from the West View Cemetery of German. The Rev. Palmer Neumiester officiated.

CARL ROBERTS
SHERBURNE - Carl Martin Roberts, 90, formerly of Sherburne and Oneonta, and most recently a resident of the Residential Health Care Facility of Chenango Memorial Hospital, passed away Monday morning, May 20, 2002 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Cooperstown, Carl grew up in the Milford area and attended the Milford schools. In his early years in Milford, he picked hops for a hop farmer in Middlefield Center. For over 40 years, Carl made his home in Oneonta, where he was employed by the Enders Furniture Store and it's successor, Style Wright Furniture Store, working as a floor salesman and retiring in 1976. In 1980, Carl and his wife moved to Sherburne, where they lived until entering the Residential Health Care Facility. Over the years, and in his retirement, Carl enjoyed fishing.
Carl was born Jan. 27, 1912, in Cooperstown, the son of William and Emma (McAvany) Roberts. He married Mary Taite in Great Bend, Pa. Carl is survived by his wife, Mary Roberts; by his daughter, Audrey Bramer of Norwich; his granddaughter, Debra Zampetti and her husband Victor of Norwich; and by his great grandson, Shaun Zampetti of Norwich. Carl was predeceased by his sisters: Edna Cooper, Flora Kirby, and Bertha Frazier; and his brothers, Harvey and Elton Roberts.
Funeral services for Carl will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday from the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Glenn Mahaffey, rector of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Maryland Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the service at 11.
DANIEL BARTLETT
NORWICH - Daniel Bartlett, 41, of Rome, died May 21, 2002 at the Rome Nursing Home, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was courageous, optimistic and never lost his sense of humor.
He was born Aug. 1, 1960, in Norwich, a son of John Bartlett of Hamilton and Marilyn Anderson of Hyattsville Hills, Md. He graduated from Hamilton Central School in 1979 and the New York Institute of Photography. Daniel was united in marriage to the former JoAnn Smith of Oxford, on Sept. 19, 1993, at the Beaver Meadow Christian Church, Beaver Meadow. He was employed as a nursing assistant at the Lutheran Social Services Retirement Home, Gettysburg, Pa., and formerly worked at Brightman’s One Hour Photo Lab, Norwich, The Evening Sun, Norwich and the Vantine Studios, Hamilton. He was an honorary member of the South Otselic Fire Department, a member of Civil War Re-enacting Groups and the Norwich Civil War Roundtable.
Daniel is survived by his wife, JoAnn; his mother, Marilyn Anderson, of Hyattsville Hills, Md.; his father and stepmother, John and Barbara Bartlett of Hamilton; his maternal grandmother, Mary Anderson of Plymouth; two stepdaughters, Holly Davis and her fiancŽ Ray Brownwell of Rome, and Rebecca Davis of Rome; a step-son and daughter-in-law, Alfred Jr. and Rhonda Davis of Rome; a sister and brother-in-law, Michelle and Robert Dye of Hamilton; a brother, David Bartlett of Hamilton; an uncle and aunt, Jon and Dawn Anderson of Smyrna; six grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Beaver Meadow Christian Church. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery, Sherrill. There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the National Military Parks at Gettysburg, Pa., or the South Otselic Fire Department.

SCOTT FREDENBURG
NORWICH - Scott C. Fredenburg, 38, of Ashcraft Road, Norwich, well-known area softball enthusiast, passed away late Monday afternoon in the Binghamton General Hospital.
Born and raised in Norwich, Scott lived his entire life in the Norwich area. Following his graduation from Norwich High School, he furthered his education by attending Morrisville College, where he received his business degree, and continued on at Oneonta State in their computer science programs. Scott was employed as a bartender for 13 years by the Blue Bird Restaurant, and had also worked for The Evening Sun. Due to health problems, he was forced to stop working. A true and die-hard softball enthusiast, Scott was a past League Commissioner of the Norwich Men’s Slow Pitch Softball League, and was team captain for several years for the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home team.
Born May 31, 1963, in Norwich, Scott was the son of Robert and Jennie "Tootie" (Westover) Fredenburg. He is survived by his mother, Jennie "Tootie" Fredenburg of Norwich; by his children: Heather, Kelly, Kaci, Joshua, and Logan Fredenburg, all of Norwich; and by his companion, Robin Potter, and her children, T. J. and Tyler, all of Norwich. Scott is also survived by his sisters: Kathy Noldan and her husband, August, of Fayetteville; Dawn Bartlett and husband Ken of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and Robin Felldin and husband Laurence of Afton; and by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Scott was predeceased by his father, Robert Fredenburg, on Oct. 11, 2000.
Funeral services for Scott will be held on Saturday morning at 9:30 from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Douglas Cunningham will officiate.

NORWICH - Leone Wickham, 85, of Route 12 South, Norwich, passed away early this morning, Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at her home.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be published in a later edition of The Evening Sun.

GORDON BROWN
GREENE - Gordon Clarence Brown, 81, of Abbotswood Retirement Center, and formerly of Greene, died Monday, May 20, 2002, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital, N.C.
Mr. Brown is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mrs. Frances Boyce Brown; five children: Marcia Francis Collins, Edison, N.J., Linda Roseva Schick, Charlotte, N.C., Wayne Gordon Brown, Greensboro, N.C., Gary Newton Brown, Summerfield, N.C., and Ivan Clarence Brown, Holmdel, N.J.; his sister, Eunice Edberg, Phoenix, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Brown was of Baptist faith and a member of Central Baptist Church in Greene. He attended Cornell University and was a member of the Cornell University Band; president and charter member of Greene Lions Club; active in 4-H Clubs; member of Plastics Engineers Association and director of GLA Credit Union. Mr. Brown also was retired from Simmons Precision, Inc., as an aeronautical engineer.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 23 at the Root Funeral Home, 23 North Chenango St., Greene. Burial will follow in Sylvan Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Thursday at the Root Funeral Home.

CHER’E DUNN
EARLVILE - Cher’e A. Dunn, 30, of Earlville, NY, passed away early Sunday morning, May 19, 2002 from injuries sustained in a car accident.
Born in Norfolk, Va., Cher’e grew up in Florida and moved to the Norwich area in l990. While living in Norwich, she had been employed by the CWS of Norwich. Cher’e had made her home in Earlville for the past several years and had worked for the Earlville Pizzeria and the Norwich Pennysaver.
Born Nov. 28, 1971, in Norfolk, Va.,, Cher’e was the daughter of James and Pauline (Nobis) Dunn. Cher’e is survived by her children: Vernon Ray Dunn of Bridgeport; James Michael Bennett of Smyrna; and Taylor Dunn and Destiny Dunn, both of Bridgeport; her mother Paulin Dunn of Ionia, Michigan; her sister, Susan Reason of Highpoint, N.C.; and her brother, Christopher Dunn of Ashville, N.C. Also surviving are her best friends, Vicky Law and her family of Norwich. Besides her father, James, Cher’e was predeceased by her son, Terry Post, and her sister, Mary Dunn.
Funeral services for Cher’e will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the R J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Mario Ciazzilli, pastor of the Earlville Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Sherburne West Hill Cemetery.
