EVELYN COLE
SHERBURNE - Evelyn E. Cole, 99, formerly of Sherburne, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2003 in Boulder, Colo.
Born Oct. 9, 1903 in Bloomville, she was the daughter of Arthur A. and Barbara Jane (Thomson) Dibble. Evelyn had been an elementary school teacher in Sherburne for 22 years, moving to Colorado in 1994. She loved gardening, both indoor and outdoor plants. She will be remembered as an accomplished seamstress, Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible school teacher and especially as a devoted mother. She was a member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church in Norwich.
On June 21, 1925, in Bloomville, she married John A. Cole who died on May 22, 1990. She is survived by a son, Gerry Cole and his wife, Sharon, of Longmont, Colo.; a grandson, Ronald D. Cole and his wife Kristen; a great grandson, Ronald J. Cole and two sisters, Ada Outwater and Marjorie Dibble. She was predeceased by three brothers, Ralph, Herman and Arthur Dibble.
A prayer service for Evelyn was held on Sunday evening at the Wilson Funeral Home. Rev. James Vargo, parish minister at the Broad Street United Methodist Church, officiated. Burial took place today in Riverside Cemetery in Bloomville.

NORWICH - A prayer service for Evelyn Cole was held on Sunday evening at the Wilson Funeral Home. Rev. James Vargo, parish minister for the Broad Street United Methodist Church, officiated.
Burial took place in Riverside Cemetery in Bloomville, NY on Monday. Mrs. Cole’s daughter-in-law, Sharon Cole, led the committal prayers.
ROBERT WANSOR
NORWICH - Robert J. Wansor, 77, of Norwich, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 3, 2003 at his home.
Bob was born Nov. l, l 925, in Sea Cliff, Long Island, the son of George and Teresa (Cotter) Wansor. He grew up in Sea Cliff and Glen Cove, and attended the Glen Cove High School. Eventually settling in Levittown, he was employed by the Long Island Lighting Co. in Hicksville in their Customer Relations Dept., from which he retired. Bob moved to Norwich in 1999 to be closer to his son Robert and his family. A lover of the outdoors, he could be seen on his lawn tractor at any given time, and enjoyed caring for his son’s lawn as well as his own. He certainly became a familiar face to all who went by or visited.
Bob is survived by his sons, Dr. Robert E. Wansor and his wife, Dr. Johanna Moses, of Norwich and Patrick J. Wansor and his wife Kathryn of Center Conway, N.H.; and his grandchildren, Jacob, Patrick, Katherine, Alexa Lee, and Margaret Mary. Also surviving are his sister, Joan Seaman; his brothers, William Wansor, George Wansor, and Frank Wansor, along with nieces and nephews.
Bob was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Ann Wansor, and his sister, Gertrude Wansor.
Services and Interment will be private.
Arrangements are by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
LESLIE TAYLOR
NORWICH - Funeral services with full military rites for Leslie Taylor were held on Thursday, July 3, 2003 at 11 a.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Beverly Butler, chaplain of the Gilmour Health Care Facility of Norwich, officiated. Interment followed in the Mt. Hope Cemetery with Rev. Butler offering the committal prayers. Pall bearers were Tom Taylor, Jeff Taylor, Dan Irvin, Roger Marango, Milton “Pete” Benedict and Brandon Vidler.
Full military rites were provided by members of local veterans organizations all under the direction of Commander Harold Funke. Color Guard members were Dick Pratt and Mark Caldwell. Firing Squad members were John Greeley, Ron Palmer and Harold Funke. The flag was folded by John Greeley, Ron Palmer and Harold Funke with Mr. Greeley presenting the flag to Leslie’s son, Lawrence Taylor. Bugler for the service was Nick Natoli.
RONALD YOUNG
SHERBURNE - Ronald Young, 48, of North Main St., Sherburne, passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening , July 3, 2003 at his home.
Ron was born July 3, 1955, in Hamilton, the son of Clyde and Lena (Riggall) Young. On March 20, 1976, in Preston, he married Barbara Cane who survives. Ron grew up in the Sherburne area and was a graduate of the Sherburne-Earlville High School class of 1974. He worked for the Dromgoole Farms for seven years, and drove truck for Rea-D-Pack Foods, Inc. of North Norwich for a period of 15 years. An avid sportsman, Ron enjoyed hunting and shooting and was a former member of the Smyrna Rod & Gun Club as well as a former member of the Iroquois Rod & Gun Club of Norwich.
Ron is survived by his wife Barbara, and his children, Brian Young and his wife Tracy and Rebecca Young, all of Sherburne; his father and step-mother, Clyde and Jenette Young of North Norwich; his sister, Frenda Papelino of Norwich; and his brothers, Richard Young of Oxford, Paul Young of New Berlin, Jerald Young of Maryland, James Young and William Young, both of South Plymouth, and David Young of Oneonta. Also surviving are his granddaughter, Cheyenne Young, and many nieces and nephews.
Ron was predeceased by his mother, Lena Young, in June of 1974.
Funeral services for Ron will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. James Vargo of Norwich will officiate. Interment will be private.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from moon until the time of the service at 2 p.m.
BEVERLY PRITCHARD
NORWICH - Beverly Ann Pritchard, 63, of Masonville, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2003, at home.
Born on Jan. 28, 1940 in Norwich, she was the daughter of the late Graydon and Freda (Seifert) Gibson.
She married Robert Courtemanche, who predeceased her. She later married Calvin Pritchard.
Beverly was a past member of the Masonville Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are her son, Martin Pritchard of Sidney; two daughters, Christina and David Pritchard of Masonville, and Karen Pritchard of Charlottesville; two step-daughters, Lisa and Phil Devine of Cornith, and Lynette Pritchard of Cornith; two brothers, Stewart and Gail Foster of Cheektowaga, and Arthur Foster of Buffalo; two sisters, Annie Foster and Mary Foster, both of Buffalo; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one stepson, Stephen Pritchard.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. from the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. Robert Howard, pastor of the Masonville Federated Church, officiating.
Burial will be in the Masonville Cemetery at a later date.
Friends may call on Wednesday, as the family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta.

GLADYS ROWE
MORRIS - Gladys A. Rowe, 83, of Morris, died on Saturday, July 5, 2003, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, with her six children and grandchildren at her side.
Born on Feb. 19, 1920 in Andes, she was the daughter of Demmon BerNooy and Gladys (Condon) VerNooy.
She was first married to Frederick Wilhelm Wagner in March 1939. He died on Aug. 30, 1953.
She then married Alvin Rowe, who died several years ago.
She was a loving mother and grandmother.
During World War II she worked in a machine shop in support of her country.
Gladys was a well known and loved bartender at the Morris Inn, the Brookside Tavern and the Corner House, several years ago and was well known for her delicious homemade rolls.
Surviving are her six children, Martha Benjamin and husband Adrian of Burlington Flats, Lois Jones and husband Robert of New Berlin, Frederick Wagner and wife Diana of Pittsfield, Helen Hoag of New Berlin, Amy L. Gage of Morris and Sophie Liberatore of North Norwich; two sisters, Erma Martin of South Kortright and Helen Walker of Fullerton, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Joseph Ranker of Cooperstown; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by a son, Dennis Rowe; a sister, Margaret Rankers; and a grandson, Scott Hoag.
It was her request that she be cremated and private memorial services be held at the convenience of the family.
There were no calling hours.
Friends are asked to make donations to the Morris Emergency Squad in her memory. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

NORWICH - Memorial services for William Hunter were held on Monday at 11 a.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. James Vargo officiated. Interment was in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery of Ashland.

NORWICH - Funeral services for Michael Quattrocchi were held on Monday at 1:30 p.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. H. Patrick Isaac officiated. Interment followed in St. Paul’s Cemetery with Rev. Isaac offering the committal prayers.
Harold Funke, Don Dibble, Dick Pratt, Ron Palmer and Joe Benenati all representing local veterans organizations folded the flag and Joe Benenati presented the flag to Michael’s son Michael Quattrocchi.
PAUL LAWRENCE
SHERBURNE - Paul G. Lawrence, 86, of Sherburne, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2003, at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich.
Paul was born in Fern Glen, Pa.
He was a lineman, and was employed for 33 years by the Public Service Electric and Gas of Clifton, N.J. He retired in 1980.
In 1980 he moved to Sherburne from Pompton Lakes.
He married Margaret, who predeceased him in 1998.
He is survived by his two sons, Timothy of Hewitt and Thomas of Pompton Lakes; two daughter, Carol Milano of Lake Hopatcong and Mary Ann Lawrence of Andover; and six grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret; and a son, Paul in 1993.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday at 8:30 from the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, 781 Newark Pompton Turnpike, Route 23, Pompton Plains.
A mass was celebrated at 9:30 from St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Pompton Lakes.
Interment followed at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes.
Visiting hours were held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

ARRIETTA LENT
GILBERTSVILLE - Arrietta Cornelia Lent, 77, of Otego, died on Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.
Born on Feb. 11, 1926 in Roscoe, she was the daughter of Earl Herman and Tillie Arrietta Weiss Teed.
On Oct. 12, 1944 she was united in marriage to Verner J. Lent at Columbus, and enjoyed 52 years of marriage before he predeceased her on may 15, 1997.
While raising her family, Arrietta was a working dairy farm wife and did custom sewing at home.
After her children were grown, she went to SUNY Oneonta and received her bachelor’s degree in education. She taught fourth grade at South New Berlin Central School and retired in 1996 after 20 years teaching.
Not one to sit idle, she loved going on tours wit Eastern Tours of Oneonta to many different destinations.
She was very active in her church, the Baptist Church of Gilbertsville, as a member of ABW Group, the Board of Christian Education, the church Governing Board and the Otsego County Council of Churches.
She was also active in the Butternut Valley Grange, Tianderah Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Chenango County Retired Teachers Association and the New York State Teachers Association, the Quilt Group of Gilbertsville and the Pinochle Club of Gilbertsville.
Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Keith Lilley of Otego, Janet and Doug Tobey of Gilbertsville, and Christena and Len Reynolds of Otego; grandchildren and their spouses, Mark and Andrea Tobey, Tammy Tobey, Timothy and Tricia Lilley, Sandra and Greg Bonczkowski, and Lisa and William Kuehnle Jr.; six great-grandchildren, Chris, Glen, Darren, Aleah and Alysah Tobey, and Gavin Bonczkowski; brothers and sisters-in-law, Christoph Teed of Venice, Fla., Truman and Darlene Teed of Columbia, S.C., Nelson and Betty Teed of Morris, and Joyce Teed of White Sulphur Springs; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband and brother, Leon Teed.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Gilbertsville Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Palada, pastor of the church, officiating.
Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Otego.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 34 River St., Otego. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.

WAYNE WILSON
OXFORD - Wayne Wilson, 46, of Toms River, N.J., passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 8, 2003.
Born in Weehakwen, N.J. on July 30, 1956, Wayne was the son of Joseph and the late Laura Wilson. The family moved to Oxford in 1992, where they lived for several years. While in Oxford, Wayne was employed at the Community Workshop in Norwich. Wayne returned to New Jersey in 1997.
Wayne is survived by his father, Joe of Whiting, N.J. and two brothers, Scott and his wife Sharon of North Norwich and Gary of Florida. His mother, Laura, passed way in 1994.
Services for Wayne will be held at the Behe Funeral Home in Oxford on Saturday at noon. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery of Oxford.
ISABELLE COSENS
SHERBURNE - Isabelle Baker Cosens, 85, formerly of Sherburne, died on Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at Chenango Memorial Hospital Residential Healthcare Facility, Norwich, where she had resided since 1997.
Born on July 16, 1917 in Norwich, she was a daughter of Chester and Gertrude Penner Baker, and attended local schools.
She was married to Henry “Hank” Cosens, who died in 1968.
A life-long area resident, Isabelle worked at Morton-Norwich (now Procter & Gamble) in Norwich for many years until her retirement.
Surviving are three grandchildren, Bruce H. Cosens of Sherburne, Chad L. Cosens of Pikeville, Tenn., and Adrianne G. Cosens of Plymouth; and several great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by an infant son, Gary Cosens, and a son, Bruce W. Cosens in 2001.
Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in the Sherburne Quarter Cemetery, Sherburne.

BETTY DEISS
NORWICH - Betty F. Deiss, 76, of Peacock Park Apts., Norwich, passed away Tuesday evening, July 8, 2003 in the Wilson Hospital of Johnson City.
Betty was born July 15, 1926, in Redfield, the daughter of Frank and Frances (Lagoe) LaRock. While growing up, Betty lived in the East Pharsalia and South Otselic areas and attended the South Otselic School. While growing up with her sisters, she was always good to her sisters, Neva and Genevieve, and was like a mother to them. Betty was a long-time Norwich resident and one of the first residents of Peacock Park Apts., having made her home there for 27 years. She will be remembered as a strong-willed, determined, tough-nut-to-crack type of person. She had worked for 25 years as a waitress at Scarcella’s Diner in Norwich, until her disability curtailed her activities.
Betty is survived by her children: Floyd Deiss Jr., (Skip) and wife Sandy of Norwich, Douglas Martin Deiss and wife Kathy of Delaware, Melanie Krucher of Biddeford, Me., Robin Gross and husband Billy of Norwich, and Jim Wearne and wife Karen of Afton; and her sisters, Neva Holdredge of Cooperstown and Genevieve M. Cummings of Norwich. Also surviving are her 11 grandchildren: Tricia, Holly, Doug Jr., Nicholas, BetteJo, Joshua, Kelly, Breanne, Melissa, Seth, and Meghan; her six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Betty was predeceased by her son, Terry Lee Deiss; her sister, Leila LaRock; and her brothers, Carl and Earl E. LaRock.
Funeral services for Betty will be private with interment in the J. D. Lewis Cemetery of Preston. The Rev. Rebekah Sweet, pastor of the Broad St. United Methodist Church of Norwich, will officiate.

WILLIAM LUDLOW
SHERBURNE - William F. Ludlow, 72, of No. Main St., Sherburne, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 8, 2003 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital of Norwich.
Bill was born March 8, 1931, in Clayville, the son of Frank and Mabel (Welder) Ludlow. He grew up in the Clayville area and was a graduate of the Clayville School. Following his education, Bill entered the United States Army, to serve his country from May of 1951 until his honorable discharge in May of 1953. Upon his return from the military, he made his home in the Utica area for many years and moved to the Norwich area in the 1970’s. He had lived in Sherburne for the past four years. Throughout his working life, Bill had been a self-employed used car dealer.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Roxanne Ludlow of Jensen Beach, Fla., and his grandchildren, Amanda and Joseph Creighton. He was predeceased by his sister, Norma Mahoney.
Funeral services for Bill will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Rev. Rebekah Sweet, pastor of the Broad St. United Methodist Church of Norwich, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery of Clayville.
There will be no calling hours.
