HELENA CLARK
NORWICH - Helena Clark, 89, of Hayward Ave., Norwich, passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 5, 2000 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital of Norwich.
Born in Sidney, Helena attended their local schools. During World War II, she had been employed by the former Scintilla of Sidney. A long-time resident of Norwich, Helena and her husband Charles owned and operated Norwich's first laundromat, which was located in the lower shopping plaza. Helena was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Norwich, and a former member of the Women of the Moose. Over the years, she was a strong supporter of the SPCA, and had been an active volunteer of that organization. Following their retirement, she and Charles wintered in Florida and enjoyed good times with their many friends.
Born Sept. 12, 1911, in Sidney, Helena was the daughter of Patrick and Jessie (Burdick) Hamilton. She is survived by her sister, Irene Howard, of Kirkwood, and by two half-brothers, along with several nieces and nephews. Helena was blessed with several good friends and neighbors who helped her in her declining years. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles A. Clark, who passed away Aug. 11, 1982; by her infant son, Benjamin Stevens; by her sisters, Virginia Mirabito and Bernice Annesi; and by her brother, Paul G. Hamilton.
Memorial services and interment will be at the convenience of the family in the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Norwich. Memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA. Arrangements are by the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home of Norwich.

AUDLEY UNDERWOOD
NORWICH - Audley J. Underwood, 73, long-time resident of Bryant Road, Norwich, passed away early Monday morning, Oct. 10, 2000 at his Bryant Road home.
Audley grew up on his parents farm on Underwood Road in Norwich, and was a graduate of Norwich High School. He was a farmer all of his life. He and his wife Marion ran a farm on Rt. 12, north of Norwich, prior to moving to their present home and farm on Bryant Road, where they have lived and worked for 30 years.
Born March 20, 1927, in Norwich, Audley was the son of Joseph and Ceta (Stanton) Underwood. On June 7, 1959, he married Marion Jackson, who survives. Besides his wife Marion, of Bryant Road, Audley is survived by his son, Craig Underwood, also of Bryant Road, Norwich; by his sister, Alberta Oralls and her husband Ralph of Oxford; and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services for Audley will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Rebekah Sweet, pastor of the Broad Street United Methodist Church of Norwich, will officiate. Interment will be in the North Norwich Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

EUGENE WILLIAMS
EARLVILLE - Eugene W. Williams, 55, of West Main St., passed away Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000 at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, as the result of a battle with cancer.
Born Oct. 31, 1944 in Syracuse, he was the son of Lewis and Jennie Tooley Williams, and attended local schools. He served in the U.S. Army during the Berlin crisis. Mr. Williams was a truck driver for several trucking firms, and for John Kowalski of Earlville for over 10 years. He formerly owned and operated the Riverside Hotel in Earlville. On Sept. 24, 2000, Gene was married to the former Patsy Baker Day in Earlville.
Mr. Williams was a member of the American Legion Post 876 of Sherburne. He was a member of the county-wide shuffleboard traveling league, and bowled in the Sunday Couples League at the Hi-Skor Lanes in Earlville.
Surviving is his wife, Pat Williams of Earlville; his parents, Lewis and Jenny Williams of Georgetown; three step daughters, Dawn Mazzole of Norwich, Sharon Migonis of Hamilton and Doris Excell of East Hamilton; two stepsons, Eugene Day of Earlville and Michael Golden of Germantown, MD; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Wesley Palmer of South Otselic, Betty and Volney Marshall of Georgetown; a brother and sister-in-law, Lewis (Ron) and Nettie Williams of Erieville; seven step-grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, in the Earlville Cemetery, with full military honors.
Friends are invited to call at the family home, 51 West Main St., Earlville, today from 6 to 8 p.m.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Burgess Funeral Home, 3 Preston St., Earlville, NY.

ELLA WALKER
GREENE - Ella R. Walker, 103, passed away Saturday morning, Sept. 30, 2000.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Smithville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Lynn Shephard Dildine officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Presbyterian Church in Smithville.
Arrangements are by the Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango St., Greene.

ROBERT FREDENBURG
NORWICH - Robert D. Fredenburg, 75, of 70 Rexford St., Norwich, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday morning, Oct. 11, 2000 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital of Norwich.
Born in Norwich, Bob grew up in the Long Island area, where he attended schools in Long Island and New York City. Following his schooling, he entered the military, serving his country in the Navy from April, 1943, until his honorable discharge in February 1946. Returning to Norwich, Bob, and his wife Jennie, decided to make their home here. Bob had the ability to sell anybody anything, so he used his expertise by working as a salesman for many area firms. In his early years, he had worked for Vantine Studios, and in later years had been a bartender for the American Legion Post 189. Musically inclined, Bob could play the piano, sax, and clarinet, having had his own band in his younger days. He also enjoyed playing golf, and found contentment in woodworking. He was a life member of the VFW Post 2782, and a member of American Legion Post 189.
Bob was born Jan. 30, 1925, the son of Robert C. and Mary (McNulty) Fredenburg. On June 22, 1945, in Oxford, he married Jennie M. (Trudy) Westover. Besides his wife of 55 years, Bob is survived by his children and their spouses: Kathy and August Noldan of Fayetteville; Dawn and Ken Bartlett of Ft. Myers, Fla.; Robin and Laurence Felldin of Afton; and Scott Fredenburg of Norwich. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Nancy Poore of Manlius, Tracy Eichler of Plymouth, Jeff Smith of Orlando, Fla.; Denise Thompson of Norwich, Tonya Conroy of Ft. Myers, Fla.; Breanna Felldin of Afton, Heather Fredenburg of Oxford, Kelli Fredenburg of Norwich, Kaci Fredenburg of Norwich, and Joshua Fredenburg, Norwich; by seven great grandchildren; and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services for Bob will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. from the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Douglas Cunningham, Pastor of St. Paul's Catholic Church, will officiate. Interment with full military rites will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery of Norwich. Friends are invited to call at the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m.

ELLA MONDAY
NORWICH - Ella Harvey Case Monday ( "Blondie"), 79, of Tanner Hill, Norwich, passed away early Thursday morning, Oct. 12, 2000 at her home, following an extended illness.
Born in Bismark, North Dakota, Ella came to Chenango County at an early age, attending school in South New Berlin. Over the years, Ella was employed by several area firms, including the former TACO in Sherburne for 10 years and the Norwich Shoe Factory for 20 years. In 1937, Ella married Irving Franklin Case. From 1945 through 1962, they lived in South Otselic, operating a farm there until his death on Sept. 9, 1962. Following Irving's death, Ella lived in South Plymouth and in Norwich. In 1966, she married Charles P. Monday, who passed away Feb. 21, 1990.
Born Sept. 7, 1921, in Bismark, N.D., Ella was the daughter of Floyd and Rosena (Graham) Harvey. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Edward and Jean Case of Rochester, Wayne and Juanita Case of Norwich, and Sharen and William Appleton of Richmond, Va.; by her close friend and companion, Allen Denney of Norwich; and by five step-children: Mary Barnes, Shirley Golden, Linn Monday, Velma Lee Diamond, and Thomas Monday. Eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. In addition to her first and second husbands, Ella was predeceased by her three sisters: Edith Kulikoski, Almira Brenden, and Ethel Hinman; and by her eight brothers: Raymond, George, Clarence, Harold, Kenneth, Wilbur, Romain, and Chancey Harvey.
Funeral services for Ella will be held on Sunday at 11 a.m. from the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home. Pastor Timothy Case, of Poland, Ella's grandson, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Valley View Cemetery of South Otselic. Friends are invited to call at the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY, 13815.

EMILY DAVIS
OXFORD - Emily M. Davis, 76, of West State Road, Oxford, passed away Wednesday evening, Oct. 11, 2000 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital of Norwich.
Born in East McDonough, Emily had lived all her life in the Norwich/Oxford/McDonough areas. In the early 1950's, Emily and her husband Don moved to Oxford, where they made their home until their deaths. Choosing to stay at home, Emily enjoyed being a wife, mother, and homemaker, and raising her family. In later years, she enjoyed her cats, who were her constant companions.
Born May 22, 1924, in East McDonough, Emily was the daughter of Walter and Minnie (Benton) Dungey. On Nov. 9, 1941, she married Donald M. Davis, who passed away April 16, 1996. Emily is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Douglas and Gloria Davis of Oxford, and Richard and Ivy Davis, also of Oxford; by her sister, Grace Osborne of Norwich; and her brother, Hugh Spencer and his wife, Helen, of Norwich. She is also survived by four sisters-in-law and two brothers-in law: Verda Spencer of Oxford and Amy Davis of Sidney; Barb and Charles Roberts of Oxford; and Jean and Raymond Davis of Oxford; by four grandchildren: Wendy Chrisbacher of Norwich, Christine Hinman and husband Mark, of Oxford, Rory Davis of Amsterdam, and Melissa Smith and husband Shawn, of Easton, Mass; and by eight great grandchildren: Kesha Chrisbacher, Colby Chrisbacher, Ryan Hinman, Justin Hinman, Nicole Hinman, Kathryn Hinman, Zachary Smith, and Emily Smith, plus several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Graveside services for Emily will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. from Mt. Hope Cemetery of Norwich. The Rev. Noreen Mooney, Interim Rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Oxford, will officiate. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815. Arrangements are by the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home.
