THOMAS BUTCHER

GUILFORD - Thomas "Joe" Butcher, formerly of Guilford and Sidney, passed away at his home in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 10 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Bainbridge. The Rev. Linda King Watkins, vicar, will officiate.

Arrangements are by the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney.

IVAN TEFFT

SOUTH OTSELIC - Ivan Frederick Tefft, (Short), 77, long-time resident of George White Road on Tefft Hill, South Otselic, passed away early Monday evening, Feb. 5, 2001 at his home.

Born in Upper Lisle, Short grew up in the Otselic Valley and attended the Cincinnatus schools. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in North Africa, Sicily, southern France, and Germany. During the course of his adult life, Short made his home in several different areas - the Catskills, out West, and in the Cortland area. In the 1940's, he was employed by Red-D-Pack Kraut Factory in North Norwich. It was while living in Cortland and Chenango counties that he became involved in farm work, logging, and well drilling. He worked on several area farms, was a partner in Yale and Tefft Well Drilling, and, most recently, had cut pulp wood for Ward Monroe.

Born Sept. 9, 1923, Short was the son of Charles Henry and Lena LoVina (Maynard) Tefft. Short's first wife, Myrtle Hicks Tefft, passed away in 1964. On Jan. 22, 1982, he married Vivian Monroe Tefft, who passed away June 12, 1994. Short is survived by his children: Juanita Tefft Burdick and husband Gordon of Lake Wales, Fla.; Arletta Tefft Mease and husband DeWayne of Mountain Home, N.C.; Laurena Tefft Helms of Hendersonville, N.C.; Marcene Tefft and wife Barbara Brewster Tefft of South Otselic; Marlow Tefft and wife Joanne Funkhauser Tefft of Cortland; and Martin Tefft and wife Kristi Adams Tefft of South Otselic. Also surviving are many, many grandchildren and great, great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and two sisters-in-law: Lydia Bowers Tefft of Rome, and Grace Slater Tefft of Catskill. Besides his parents and both wives, Short was predeceased by his sisters Lela, Julia, Lillian, Mildred, Irene, and Wanda, and by his brothers, Henry, Howard, Bernard, Spencer, Clinton, Frank, and Franklyn.

Funeral services for Short will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Carl Brandon, pastor of the North Pharsalia Bible Church, will officiate. Interment with full military rites will be at a later date in the Wayside Rest Cemetery of Pharsalia Hook. Friends may call at the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Otselic Valley Family Health Center at P. O. Box 90, South Otselic, NY, 13155, Attn: Medication Fund.

ROBERT MORLEY

OXFORD - Robert S. Morley, 77, of State Highway 220, Oxford, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001 at Rivermede Manor, Binghamton. He was born on Sept. 15, 1923 in Hancock, the son of Walter and Carlotta (Hulbert) Morley. On Aug. 8, 1948 in North Fenton, he married Gladys Camp, who survives.

Besides his wife, Gladys, Bob is survived by his children: Brenda and Vinnie Manucci of Oxford; Barbara Parks of Smithville Flats; Ronald and Laureen Morley of McDonough; Kenneth Morley of McDonough; William and Anita Morley of Deposit; and Vernon and Becky Morley of Elgin, S.C.; his brothers: George Morley of Oregon; Ralph Morley of Oneonta; and Alston Morley of Endwell. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.

Bob was a veteran of World War II and a life member of the Fort Hill Post 376 American Legion of Oxford. He was also a member of the Oxford Lions Club. He retired from the Community Work Shop in Norwich, where he was a transportation coordinator. He enjoyed playing music for many banquets, weddings and especially at The Silo Restaurant for over 20 years. He enjoyed woodworking.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford, with Rev. Philip Thorick, pastor of the Oxford United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.

Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford, on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

JUNE BONNELL

NORWICH - June S. Bonnell, 66, of 8 Brown St., Norwich, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001 at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City.

Born in Salona, Pa. on June 17, 1934, she was the daughter of Paul M. and Ida (Rachau) Schaeffer. She spent her early years in Bellefonte, Pa. and graduated from Bellefonte High School with the class of 1952. She began her career as an operator with the Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania and continued in that career with the Chenango & Unadilla Telephone Company after moving to Norwich in 1961. Later, she was a secretary for Edwin C. Parkhill in his interior decorating business.

She was a member of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Norwich. She was also a member of Canasawacta Country Club where she enjoyed many rounds of golf with her friends.

On May 15, 1953, in Bellefonte, she married Robert L. Bonnell. He died on June 3, 1991. She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Mason and her husband Phillip and a son, Dewey Bonnell and his wife Patricia, all of Norwich; four grandchildren, Brian, Rick and Sarah Bonnell and Bonnie Mason, also of Norwich; three sisters and two brothers, all living in Bellefonte: Ruth Tice, Myrabelle Spearly and Rosaline Corl, Donald and Robert Schaeffer. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by three brothers, Victor, Paul and Ned Schaeffer.

A memorial service for Mrs. Bonnell will be held on Monday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m. at the Devine-Wilson Memorial Home. There will be no calling hours. Burial will take place in the spring in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Contributions in memory of June may be made to the charity of one's choice.

MOLLY BIVIANO NORWICH - Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 6, 2002 for Molly Biviano at St. Bartholomew’s Church. Rev. Douglas Cunningham, pastor, celebrated a Mass of Resurrection.

Mass began with Mrs. Biviano’s husband, Angelo, her sons Edward Biviano and Robert Garito, and his wife Barbara placing the baptismal pall upon the casket. The readings for the Mass were proclaimed by Molly’s niece, Kathy Welch and grand nephew, Johny Huhtala. Niece Marie Galton read the General Intercessions. Edward Biviano and Robert and Barbara Garito presented the offertory gifts, and Kathy Welch served as Eucharistic Minister. Barbara Garito read a poem on behalf of Molly.

George Zieno was the altar server. Offering musical tribute were organist Susan Ticknor and vocalist Bertha DeFonzo.

On Thursday evening at the Wilson Funeral Home, Mary Ann Bodiot led the family in praying the Rosary.

LYNN MOWERS NORWICH - Funeral services for Lynn Mowers were held on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002 at 11 a.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Rebekah Sweet, pastor of the Broad Street United Methodist Church, officiated.

Interment will take place at a later date in the Union Cemetery of McDonough.

EDITH ERICKSON NORWICH - Edith C. Erickson, age 73, of Tawas City, Mich., and formerly of the Norwich area, died on Friday, Nov. 29, 2002. She was born in Jenison Station, N.Y. near Bainbridge, on Aug. 6, 1929, to Roy J. and Ora (Pinney) Cullen. She graduated from Sidney High School in 1947, and married Donald E. Erickson in July of 1950.

After settling in South Plymouth, Mrs. Erickson was active in the Girl Scouts, the Boy Scouts, the Perry Browne P.T.A., the Eta Epsilon Sorority, and was a founding member of the Town and Country Garden Club. She worked for years in the business office of the Chenango Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Erickson is survived by her children, Edward (Melanie) Erickson of Norwich; Ann (Robert) Griffin of Waterbury Center, Vt.; David (Anne) Erickson of Long Beach, Calif.; Gordon (Dolly) Erickson of Cartersville, Ga.; and Elizabeth (Bruce) Clarisse of Tawas City, Mich. She had 11 grandchildren.

Her parents, her brothers Charlie and Howard Cullen, and her sister Marion predeceased her.

Internment will take place in the spring/summer of 2003 at the Riverside Cemetery in Oxford, with a graveside service planned at that time.

The family requests memorials in her name be made to the American Lung Association.
