Clark from the Lake Placid Club called on Mrs. James Stewart
fast Friday...Leonard Gay, who has been discharged from the
Navy, is spending a few days here with relatives ... Miss
Jane Stanton of Pittsburgh spent a few days with her grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Sanders.
KEENE VALLEY - Mrs. Joseph Isham and daughter, Christine, of
Oyster Bay are visiting relatives here. Mrs. Isham's uncle and aunt
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Davis, also of Oyster Bay, spent a short time
here ... Mrs. Knox Mitchell, daughter Gay, and son Marquand
spent the weekend at Whitefield N. H. ... Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Estes
left on Sunday for Ossining, N.Y., where they have employment.
UPPER JAY: Staff Sgt. Russell Havens arrived home on Saturday
from Eglin Field, Fla., after being overseas for several months.
He went to Fort Dix Tuesday, where he will receive his discharge.
Rev. Homer Titus of Moriah and Mr. and Mrs. McKenzie
and daughter called on Mrs. E. W. Keith during the week.
Mrs. Anna Richardson of Schenectady is spending a week with
her sisters, Mrs. Ella Wilson & Miss Marge Kerr.
JAY: Mr. and Mrs. Edward LaValley, Miss Ann Stickney and
James McDonald enjoyed a trip up Whiteface Mt. last week ...
Mrs. E. Bowden, Mrs. Kenyon B. Conger, Jr., and the Misses Anne
and Mabel Conger of Lake Clear, Mrs. K. B. Smith, Jr., and Mrs.
Donald Stevens of Wilmington were guests Tuesday of Mrs. Phil
Smith at a bridge luncheon given for Mrs. Joseph Ubriaco ...
Mr. and Mrs. N. S. Pinney visited relatives in Brandon, Vt., a couple
of days last week.
WILMINGTON: Marvin Barber is building a camp of a Greyhound
bus he purchased, locating it next to Mrs. Stickney's on the
Black Brook Road ... Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kerston of Westerville,
Ohio, and Mr. and Mrs. Dean R. Hardy of Quincy, Mass.,
spent a few days at Sand Hill Camp in Kaseiton. Mrs. Clara
Hazelton spent a few days there with her daughters.
ELIZABETHTOWN: Dr. Henry Partridge expects to return to
New York City the rest of the week, after enjoying a vacation
of seven weeks. He reports that his sister, Sgt. Margaret Walker,
WAC, sailed with 700 WAC's on the S. S. George Washington
last Saturday. She is reported to be headed for duty in Germany ...
Elizabethtown and Lewis entertained thirteen Fresh Air children for two
weeks. They apparently had a happy time while here, and so did the
entertainers ... Mrs. Otto Kruger and Miss Ottilie Kruger were guests of
Mrs. Ed Lee Campe last week to be present for the Brewster-Lee
wedding.
WADAMS: Mrs. Nora Surprise, who visited Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Dunning the past two weeks, returned to Vergennes, Vt., Sunday ...
Peggy and Richard Shambo of Willsboro are visiting their
brother, Roger, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lewis ...
Grant Dickerson of New York city spent some time here with his sister
Mrs. Mary Miller Wednesday of last week, they visited relatives in Vermont.
AUSABLE FORKS: Mrs. Edward Dennett and daughters, Florence
and Donna returned Tuesday night from Tupper Lake, where they
spent a few days visiting relatives and friends ... Mrs. Fred
Carnes and son Wilfred, attended the Deerwood Adirondack Music
Concert at Saranac Lake last Friday night ... Mrs. Francis Wisher
and son Jeffrey and Mrs. James Roushia left Tuesday to
pass a week in Valleyfield, Quebec ... Mrs. Roger O. Egeberg and four
children were guests of Mr. & Mrs. James Rogers for several
days last week, en route to join Col. Egeberg in Santa Monica,
Calif., where he is chief of medicine at the veteran's facility. He
was formerly aide to Gen. Douglas MacArthur ... John MacDonald returned
to his home in Valleyfield, P.O., having visited his brother Alex here for the
past six weeks ... Mr. and Mrs. Chester Moore of Saratoga
Springs were weekend guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William
Call ... Mrs. Walter Sorren and son Jimmy and Mrs. Nelllie
Smith were guests of Eugene Bailey for several days at Berkshire Industrial
School, Canaan, N.Y., Mrs. Stella Wilson of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Nellie
Elliott of Clintonville, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald
Nolette a few days last week. Mrs. Wilson is the guest of her
cousin, Mrs. Elliott, for a month. Hollis Merrifield, Jr., Dennis Miner,
Halsey Payro, James Yando, Harry Blaise and Michael Changelo
became third-degree members of the Au Sable Forks Council,
Knights of Columbus, Sunday at an initiation of a class of
candidates at the Lyceum Theater in Champlain. There was a
large number of candidates from other towns, including Dannamora,
Champlain, Rouses Point and Port Henry. The aforementioned
received the second degree at an initiation held Thursday night in the
rooms of the Pittsburgh Council. Among those attending were Grand Knight,
L. P. Meconi of the local council, Warden Vic Seguin and Thomas
Nugent ... Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Frenyea have moved into the apartment
on Palmer Street formerly occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Davern, who have
moved to their home on Palmer Hill ... Mr. and Mrs. G. A. DaSilva of
Huntington, L. I., are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Mace and
are accompanied by their son Neil ... Miss Loretta Scott left
recently for Washington D. C. where she has accepted a position in
the Egyptian Legation ... Herman Shepard, Jr., who has
been spending the summer in camp with Mrs. H. A. Shepard of
Silver Lake, has returned to New York City.
