Rufus Muscato
Rufus "Muzzy" Muscato, 78, of Amsterdam, died Wednesday evening at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Muscato was born on April 24, 1923 in Gloversville, the son of John and Antoinette Migliaccio Muscato. He attended Gloversville schools and later moved to Amsterdam where he has resided for over 50 years.
Mr. Muscato was an Army veteran of World War II in the 548th Field Artillery Battalion. He served in the European Theater including Normandy. He received the European-African-Middle East Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was employed by several area leather companies and later the Grand Union super market, Amsterdam. He was the produce supervisor for the P&C markets of Amsterdam and Schenectady and retired from Golub Corp. in 1987 as the produce manager.
He was a former member of the Johnstown Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Crandall, whom he married on May 4, 1976. He is also survived by two sons, Sylvester Muscato of Hagaman and Ralph Muscato of Amsterdam; two daughters, Linda Martin and Sandra Raco, both of Amsterdam; three stepchildren, Laurell LaBanowski of Watervliet, James Tyler of Amsterdam and Kenneth Tyler of Broadalbin; one sister, Patricia Gordon of Johnstown; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by four brothers, Pat, Joseph, John and Tommie Muscato and four sisters, Theresa Mole, Rose Simek, Josephine Wheaton and Carmella Maurice.
The family will be receiving friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where a prayer service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, 157 S. Main St., Gloversville. Interment will take place at Hagaman Cemetery. James A. Brady
Mr. James A. Brady, of Fishhouse, died late Wednesday at home following a long illness.
He was born on May 29, 1923 in Staten Island, N.Y., the son of James A. and Mary Brady. He served in the Navy during World War II where he met his wife of 57 years, the former Dorothy Rasmussen.
He was of the Catholic faith and a member of St. Joseph's Church of Broadalbin.
He retired from Sears Roebuck Co. after 25 years. He and his family moved to Broadalbin from Chicago in 1970. He was the curator of the Fulton County Museum for several years. He then was employed by the Gloversville school district until his retirement in 1985.
Mr. Brady is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and their seven children, Irene Thomas of Alameda, Calif., Kathleen Berquist of Duluth, Minn., Celeste Brady of Los Angeles, Calif., Mark Brady of Gloversville, Laura Brady of Albany, Paul Brady of Johnstown, and Ellen Nedo of Broadalbin. He is also survived by his sister, Irene Cavanaugh of New Jersey. Mr. Brady has 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or the Auriesville Shrine. A private service will be held for family members at a later date.
Patricia L. Hart
Patricia L. Hart, 68, of Elizabeth Lane, Saratoga Springs, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born on Oct. 24, 1932 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Richard and Lulu (Honeywell) Kane. She was a graduate of Johnstown High School in 1950 and SUNY Albany in 1954, majoring in English. She later continued her studies at SUNY Oneonta, earning her master's degree in education.
A teacher in New York state for 32 years, she had worked for Saratoga Springs City School District for 20 years.
She was a member of Saratoga Vicariate Ladies of Charity; Delta Kappa Gamma; Saratoga Springs Senior Citizens Center; New York State Retired Teachers Association, and St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church. She was a former member of Court McLaughlin 422, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and American Association of University Women.
Following her retirement in 1990 from the Caroline Street School, she combined her love of teaching with the love of her life, her husband, Jim. Together, they volunteered as cross-country ski coaches for the New York State Special Olympics. An avid reader and nature lover, she enjoyed leisurely hikes, camping in the rain, cross-country skiing, and many other outdoor activities with her family and friends. She also looked forward to her yearly trip to the ocean, enjoying the salt air and shellfish.
Survivors include her husband of 37 years, James R. Hart; two daughters, Melissa Thomas and her husband, Steven Thomas of Saratoga Springs, and Kimberly Basinger and her husband, Michael Basinger of Middleburg, Va.; three beloved grandsons, Zachary Thomas, Jacob Thomas and Ryan Basinger; her brother, John Kane of Johnstown; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Lillian Wilt.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at William J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, in St. Clement's Church, 231 Lake Ave., where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Burial will take place in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Avenue. Amy M. Kruger Ingersoll
Mrs. Amy M. Kruger Ingersoll, 87, of Trackside Apartments, Johnstown, died Wednesday morning at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam.
She was born on May 22, 1914 in Dalton, Mass., the daughter of Gertrude H. Defal. She was a graduate of Dalton schools and went on to graduate from Berkshire Business College, Pittsfield, Mass.
Amy went to work for General Electric Co., Pittsfield, Mass. and then in Schenectady, where she lived for over 20 years until her retirement. She then moved to Fultonville, where she lived until she moved to Johnstown in 1984.
She was a member of Glen Mohawk Seniors; VFW Auxiliary and Order of the Eastern Star, Fultonville. Amy was also a member of Fultonville Reformed Church and its women's organization.
Survivors include her brother-in-law, Enders Ingersoll of Glen; six nieces, Doris Yurgans of Fultonville, Betty Woznak of Albany, Willie Lanfear of Fultonville, Doris Ingersoll of Fultonville, Nancy Ingersoll of New York City and Grace Halladay of West Seneca; six nephews, Harold and Donald Kruger of Tribes Hill, Kenneth Kruger of Amsterdam, Elmer Kruger of Fultonville, Richard Ingersoll of Syracuse and Alex Ingersoll of San Francisco, Calif.; several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was married to Karl W. Kruger on May 3, 1950 and he died in 1980. She then married J. Albert Ingersoll on June 23, 1984 and he died in 1990.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Adrian Gray will officiate. Burial will take place at Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fonda. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to a charity of one's choice.
Millicent B. Walrath
Mrs. Millicent B. Walrath, 70, of Woodside Avenue, Gloversville, died Thursday, Sept. 6, at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home after a short illness.
She was born on Feb. 7, 1931 in Schenectady, the daughter of Stanley and Mary Lewandowski Bartosiewicz.
Mrs. Walrath was employed with the former Shepard Pontiac and Rose Buick, both of Gloversville, and Fulton-Montgomery Community College until her retirement.
Survivors include three daughters, Rosemary Manzer of Johnstown, Sharon Garbos of Richmondville and Lorrie Voelkers of Albany; two sons, Richard C. Walrath of Amsterdam and John E. Walrath of Johnstown; one sister, Lorraine Hladik of Schenectady; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces; nephews; great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard C. Walrath Sr., whom she married on June 30, 1951 and he died March 14, 1987; and one sister, Ester Frank.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Jack Millard will officiate. Burial will take place at Johnstown Cemetery.
