Rosemary Bell
Mrs. Rosemary Bell, 51, of West Galway, Saratoga County, died Monday (February 18, 2000) at Glens Falls Hospital, Warren County.
She was born on Dec. 1. 1948 in Amsterdam, the daughter of William and M. Rose Di Pinto Bordak.
Mrs. Bell was a 1966 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Amsterdam, and Fulton-Montgomery Community College. She was a lifelong area resident.
She was employed for several years as a registered lab technician at Nathan Littauer Hospital and most recently was a nurse at Riverfront Medical, Albany.
Mrs. Bell was a member of St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church, Hagaman, where she was president of its Rosary Society, an eucharistic minister and a religious education instructor. She was also actively involved in various soccer leagues in the Capital District.
Survivors include her husband, Douglas Bell, whom she married on Oct. 2, 1976; two daughters, Stacy Marie Bell and Sara Jean Bell, both of West Galway; her parents, of Amsterdam; one brother, John Bordak of Seymour, Conn.; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews and cousins.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Stephen's Church, Hagaman. Spring burial will take place in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Hagaman. Arrangements are by Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, Amsterdam.
Margaret A. Berecka
Mrs. Margaret A. Berecka, 78, of Gloversville, died Tuesday (February 8, 2000) at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, after a short illness.
She was born on June 26, 1921 in Amsterdam, the daughter of Charles F. and Edna Hogle Dolan. Mrs. Berecka was a graduate of St. Mary's Institute and the St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing, Amsterdam.
She served in the Army during World War II as a psychiatric nurse in hospitals in Ogden, Utah; Oakland, Calif.; and Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
She then returned to Gloversville and was a private nurse.
She was employed for 42 years at the former Johnstown Hospital, retiring in 1982.
Mrs. Berecka was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville, and a member of its Rosary Society. She was a member of the St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association.
She was a former member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars 2077 auxiliaries, Gloversville.
On Oct. 23, 1946, she married Casimir J. Berecka, who died in 1987.
Survivors include three sons, C. James Berecka of Grapevine, Texas, Michael Berecka of Huntington, Long Island, and Andrew Berecka of Johnstown; two daughters, Marley Ann Berecka of Gloversville and Nancy Berecka of Pusan, Korea; one sister, Mary Jane Roddy of Fort Myers, Fla.; one brother, John Dolan of Oakview, Calif.; four grandchildren; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and one great-great-grandniece.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker St., Gloversville. A prayer service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. At 11 a.m., a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville. Spring burial will take place in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
Carol Bever
Mrs. Carol Bever, 48, of Clifton Park, a native of Amsterdam, died Thursday (February 10, 2000) at Samaritan Hospital, Troy, after a long illness.
She was born on Dec. 26, 1951 in Amsterdam, the daughter of Everett and Allison Ambridge Horning Sr. Mrs. Bever was raised in Fort Plain and was a graduate of Fort Plain High School. She resided in Fort Plain until she moved to Clifton Park in 1983.
She was employed for 10 years at Beech-Nut Nutrition Corp., Canajoharie. She then worked for 10 years at Fleet Bank, Schenectady, and Northwest Bank, Albany, for a few years. She then worked as a loan administrator for Century Health Capital Inc., Clifton Park.
Mrs. Bever was active in antique car clubs and van clubs throughout the area.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne D. Bever, whom she married on Nov. 12, 1983; two brothers, John O. Horning of Palatine Bridge and David R. Horning of Nelliston; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Kenneth Dingman, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fort Plain, will officiate. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
Ann Bowers
Mrs. Ann Bowers, formerly of Gloversville, died Thursday (February 17, 2000) at the Masonic Home, Utica after a long illness.
She was born in Utica, the daughter of Felix and Mary Gacek Niznik. Mrs. Bowers moved to Gloversville in 1926.
She was employed as a kitchen aide at Nathan Littauer Hospital and in the shipping department at Grandoe Gloves, Gloversville. She retired in 1974.
Mrs. Bowers was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville and its Altar Rosary Society; the Charismatic Prayer Group of St. Cecilia's Church, Fonda and Kateri of Auriesville.
On June 12, 1935 she married George P. Bowers, who died in 1973. She also was predeceased by two brothers, John Niznik and Stephen Neznik; and one sister, Stephanie "Sadie" Haligowski.
Survivors include one sister, Genevieve "Jenny" Biernat of Utica; five brothers, Stanley Niznik of Gloversville, Joseph Niznik, Chester Niznik, Walter Niznik and Matthew Niznik, all of Utica; several nieces and nephews.

Eve L. Bryce
Mrs. Eve L. Bryce, 78, of Amsterdam, died Monday (February 21, 2000) at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
She was born on Nov. 6, 1921 in the town of Florida, the daughter of Paul and Marjorie Vunck Kreitlow. She was a lifelong area resident and graduated from the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1939.
Mrs. Bryce was employed by Collette Manufacturing Co. in Amsterdam for a number of years and later worked for Bayshore Industries in Amsterdam before retiring in 1978.
She was a life member of the Amsterdam YMCA, former member and organist of Hemlock Gospel Church in North Broadalbin and a member of Broadalbin Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Fred R. Bryce, whom she married on Feb. 20, 1942; a son, Blain Bryce of Plattsburgh; a daughter, Shirley Bryce of Amsterdam; a sister, Mildred Morgan of Castleton; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Avenue, Amsterdam. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Douglas Blanc officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Broadalbin Cemetery.
Carl F. Bubela
Mr. Carl F. Bubela, 85, of Gloversville, died Thursday (February 3, 2000) at home after a short illness.
He was born on Nov. 4, 1914 in the town of Providence, Saratoga County, the son of Roman and Mary Ben Bubela. Mr. Bubela was educated in Providence schools.
He served in a tank battalion in the Army during World War II from June 25, 1941 to Oct. 10, 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart for the Battle of Normandy and also received several battle stars and three bronze stars.
He was a lumberjack for various lumber mills in the Providence area. He was employed at the former Mohawk Carpet Mills, Amsterdam after the war. He retired in 1976 from Gloversville Enlarged School District as head custodian at Boulevard School.
He enjoyed playing golf.
Mr. Bubela was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Fulton County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 122, both of Gloversville.
Survivors include his wife, the former Joan T. Giblin, whom he married on April 8, 1946; one son, Carl J. Bubela of San Diego, Calif.; four daughters, Joanne Dillon of Friendville, Pa., Marion Bubela of Del Mar, Calif., Karen Hoose of Mayfield and Eileen Fontanella of Galway; two sisters, Sophia Sleezer and Ann Bubela, both of Baltimore, Md.; and six grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one daughter, Gail Malagisi, who died in 1982.

Gale J. Case
Mrs. Gale J. Case, 52, of Gloversville, died Monday (February 14, 2000) at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a long illness.
She was born on Oct. 30, 1947 in Gloversville, the daughter of Elmer and Martha Scribner Knapp.
She was last employed at Safety Leather Co., Inc., Johnstown, until she retired in 1998 due to illness.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Case, whom she married on April 12, 1975; two sons, Todd Case of Johnstown and Toby Case of Gloversville; one sister, Linda Knapp of Gloversville; two brothers, Douglas Knapp of Dolgeville and Steven Knapp of Summit, Ark.; four grandchildren; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown. A service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Edwin Meyers, retired pastor of New Covenant Community Church, Johnstown, will officiate. Spring burial will take place in Johnstown Cemetery.
