Stella Sikora Cichy
Mrs. Stella Sikora Cichy, 83, of Amsterdam and Port St. Lucie, Fla., died Saturday (February 12, 2000) at Holy Cross Hospital, Fort Lauderdale, Fla,. unexpectedly after surgery.
She was born on June 17, 1916 in Alvoca, Pa., the daughter of Anthony and Julia Kuna Dziewit. Mrs. Cichy attended Perth schools and was a graduate of Perth Central School.
She moved from Pennsylvania to Perth as a young child and later moved to Amsterdam.
She owned and operated Stella's Beauty Parlor, Amsterdam, until she retired.
Mrs. Cichy was a former member of the Amsterdam Hairdressers Association and served as treasurer for several years. She was also a member of the Hagaman Senior Citizens; Church of St. John the Baptist and St. Stanislaus Church, both of Amsterdam, and Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville.
On June 6, 1948, she married Joseph F. Sikora, who died on Dec. 6, 1991.
Survivors include her husband, Benjamin A. Cichy, whom she married on Nov. 19, 1994; three brothers, John Jevitt and Walter Jevitt, both of Amsterdam, and Raymond Jevitt of Chicago, Ill; one sister, Helen Krygowski of Rexford, Saratoga County; two stepsons, Raymond B. Cichy of Amsterdam and Thomas F. Cichy of Mayfield; five step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place. A service will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. At 9 a.m., a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Church of St. John the Baptist. Burial will take place in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam.
William J. Collins
William J. Collins, 82, of Gloversville, died Tuesday (February 1, 2000) .
Mr. Collins was born on Sept. 22, 1917 in Fonda, the son of William and Lillian Vollmer Collins. Mr. Collins graduated from Fonda schools.
He was a World War II veteran and served in the first organized unit of the Navy Seabees.
He worked as a dock foreman at Glen Mohawk of Fultonville for 20 years. He was subsequently employed as a lock tender for the New York State Barge Canal and retired in 1989.
He was a member and a past commander of the Fonda Veterans of Foreign Wars; a member of the Fonda Snell Hose Company of the Volunteer Fire Department; Johnstown Moose Lodge, and a charter member of the Navy Seabees of America.
Survivors include a brother, Henry Volmer of Painnals Park, Fla.; three half-brothers Robert Collins of Missouri; Charles Collins of Florida and James Collins of Fultonville; a half-sister, Betty Zeno of Amsterdam; nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Barter and Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher Ave., Johnstown. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Jack Millard, pastor of Johnstown Reform Church, will officiate. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
William L. Conrad Sr.
Mr. William L. Conrad Sr., 93, of Amsterdam died Wednesday morning (February 23, 2000) at his home after a brief illness.
He was born in Amsterdam on Jan. 7, 1907, a son of William F. and Lavina Benjamin Conrad. He attended local schools.
Mr. Conrad was a certified master electrician employed by the Crane & Nevins Co. and later Clarence Swart & Son Electricians. He joined the Amsterdam City Fire Department and retired in 1957 with the rank of Superintendent of Alarms after 22 years with the department.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, a past member of Elks Lodge 101 and the Permanent Firefighters Association.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Nellie Gedraitis; two sons, William L. Conrad Jr. of Amsterdam and Arthur C. Conrad of Broadalbin; a daughter, Carol Gizara of Amsterdam; one brother, John B. Conrad of Amsterdam; three sisters, Beatrice Boyle, Jane Lysohir and Ruth LeRoy, all of Amsterdam; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be private. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 9:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Church with the Rev. James Gulley as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Arrangements are by Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.
Gertrude P. Haverly
Mrs. Gertrude P. Haverly, 91, of Gloversville, died Wednesday (February 23, 2000) at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, Amsterdam.
She was born on Sept. 19, 1908 in Amsterdam, the daughter of William and Emmaline Sylvester Peck. Mrs. Haverly was a 1926 graduate of Amsterdam High School and later completed a course in library science from Columbia University, New York City. She resided in the Amsterdam and Fort Johnson area most of her life. She later moved to Gloversville in 1972.
She was employed for more than 15 years as assistant librarian at Amsterdam Free Library.
Mrs. Haverly was a life member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Amsterdam, and a member of its Daughters of Kings class. She also was a member of the Lutheran Church Women's group and the Montgomery County Historical Society.
On Oct. 22, 1927, she married Roy A. Haverly, who died on Nov. 12, 1977. She also was predeceased by three brothers, William Peck, Douglas Peck and Herbert Peck.
She is survived by one daughter, Susan Haverly Frascatore of Fort Johnson; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville. A service will be conducted at the funeral home at a time to be announced. Spring burial will take place in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
Juliet Minet Iannotti
Mrs. Juliet Minet Iannotti, 79, formerly of Hagaman, died Tuesday afternoon (February 22, 2000) at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home, where she had resided for one year.
She was born on July 20, 1920, in Newark, N.J., the daughter of Louis and Julia Zito Minet. Mrs. Iannotti moved from New York City to the Hagaman area in 1940. She had been a resident of Park Hill Adult Home, Amsterdam for three years prior to her residence at the nursing home.
She was a homemaker. Mrs. Iannotti was a member of the Art League of Amsterdam.
On July 20,1940, she married Ralph J. Iannotti, who died on June 15,1986. She was also predeceased by one daughter, Karen Iannotti George, who died in 1983.
She is survived by three nephews, Ralph Marcucio, Robert Marcucio and Glen Marcucio, all of Hagaman.
Calling hours will be 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam. A service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Brad Broyles, pastor of Northampton United Methodist Church, Fishhouse, will officiate. Spring burial will take place in Hagaman Cemetery.
John Vdoviak
John Vdoviak, 76, of County Highway 107, Amsterdam, died early today at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
He was born on Aug. 21, 1924 in Utica, a son of Samuel and Elizabeth Vdoviak. John was a 1943 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Amsterdam. Following graduation he entered the Marine Corps and was stationed in Japan during World War II. He also served during the Korean War.
He was employed for 28 years as an insurance inspector for Equifax Services of Albany. Following his retirement, he worked as a security guard at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital. He was very active in Perth community affairs, served as town constable at one time and was a former part-time sheriff's deputy of Fulton County. He was a charter member of the Perth Youth Commission, where he served as president. John also coached Little League. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and cooking. He was a member of the Equity Club and St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Amsterdam.
Surviving are his beloved wife, the former Josephine Korona, whom he married on Sept. 30, 1950; two loving sons, Gary and his wife, Mary Vdoviak of Perth, and John S. and his wife, Cynthia Vdoviak of the town of Johnstown; his dear sister, Eleanor Mathewson of Amsterdam. He was proud of his grandchildren, Jason, Shannon, Karly and Mitchell. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Janice Caiazzo will officiate. Interment will take place at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam with military honors. Anna M. Ruberti
Anna M. Ruberti, 77, of Gloversville, died Monday, June 30, after being stricken at home.
She was born on Feb. 14, 1924 in Gloversville and was a lifelong area resident. She attended Gloversville schools.
Mrs. Ruberti was employed for several years at the former C.J. Bachner Glover Co. as a glove sewer.
Mrs. Ruberti was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church of Gloversville
She is survived by one brother, Albert P. Ruberti of Gloversville; three sisters, Concetta Scoville and Ida T. Ruberti, both of Gloversville and Jane Eaton of Johnstown; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Ruberti was predeceased by her parents, Oscar and Raffaela Albini Ruberti; three brothers, Ernest Ruberti of Gloversville, Anthony Ruberti of Broadalbin and Oscar Ruberti of Johnstown.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the John W. Finocan Funeral Home, 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville. A prayer service will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville.
