Luke R. Corbett

Mr. Luke R. Corbett, 91, of Trackside, Johnstown, passed away Friday at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 28, 1909, in Amsterdam, the son of Thomas and Bridget Ward Corbett. He graduated from Johnstown High School in 1930, having been a four-year sports letterman. He attended Eastern University in Boston, where he also played basketball and baseball. Mr. Corbett played professional basketball for Company H in Gloversville. For 38 years, he was an agent for the Metropolitan Insurance Co., retiring in 1971. He served in the Army Air Force from 1943 to 1945 and was discharged with the rank of sergeant. Mr. Corbett was a member of St. Patrick's Church and the Knights of Columbus and its service committee. He was a member of the Nick Stoner Golf Club for 50 years. Mr. Corbett is survived by his wife, the former Catherine Smith of Johnstown, whom he married July 14, 1932. He is also survived by a son, William T. Corbett of Westerlo; and a daughter, Patricia Martin of Trenton, N.J.; a grandson; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; and nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no visiting hours. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Cremation will take place at Leatherstocking Crematory, Cherry Valley. Arrangements are by the Ehle Funeral Home.

Howard A. Sprung

Mr. Howard A. Sprung, 80, of North Perry Street in Johnstown, passed away Saturday, April 21, at Nathan Littauer Hospital after being stricken at home. He had been in failing health. He was born July 6, 1920, in Gloversville, the son of Timothy and Frances Hammersmith Sprung. He attended Gloversville High School. He was first employed from 1948 to 1968 at Liberty Dressing. He was employed from 1968 until his retirement in 1983 as a measurer for Crown Finishing in Johnstown. During World War II, he served in the Coast Guard from 1942 until his discharge in 1945. He was a member of the former Foresters' Club of Gloversville. On June 1, 1946, he was united in marriage to the former Helen O'Bryan, who survives. Other survivors include three sons, Robert F. Sprung of Caroga Lake, Gary M. Sprung of Gloversville and James H. Sprung of Johnstown; four granddaugters, four grandsons and a great-granddaughter, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Ehle Funeral Home, 15 N. William St., Johnstown, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment will be in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.

Anita Lynn MacPhail

Anita Lynn MacPhail, 81, of Portsmouth, N.H., and formerly of Johnstown, died Saturday, April 21, at Sunbridge of Portsmouth Nursing Home after a long illness. She was born Oct. 6, 1919, in Johnstown, the daughter of Salvatore and Cecile Causse DePhillips. She attended Gloversville schools. She worked as a licensed practical nurse for Portsmouth Hospital, retiring in 1987. She had been a member of St. Patrick's Church. Mrs. MacPhail is survived by a daughter, Susan Villone of Johnstown, a son, Kevin Kline of Portsmouth, and two grandchildren, Cheri and Christopher Bruse of Johnstown. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday from St. Patrick's Church with the Rev. James Fitzmaurice, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Barter and Donnan Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or the charity of one's choice.

Anna M. Nicolella

Mrs. Anna M. Nicolella, 82, of Gloversville, died Saturday at Nathan Littauer Hospital, where she had been a patient since Dec. 23, after a short illness. She was born on May 9, 1918 in Gloversville, the daughter of James H. and Julia Park Cayea. Mrs. Nicolella attended Gloversville schools. She was employed as an inspector for MCA Record Co., Gloversville, retiring on May 30, 1980. Mrs. Nicolella was a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Gloversville. She was an avid bingo player. Survivors include two sons, Vincent "Nick" Nicolella of Gloversville and Michael J. Nicolella of Malta; one daughter, Christina Ogren of Darien, Conn.; two sisters, Lee Poulsen of Gloversville and Virginia Isolda of Johnstown; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. On Aug. 9, 1940, she married Joseph D. Nicolella, who died in 1988. She was also predeceased by one daughter, Theresa Nicolella, who died on Aug. 22, 1998; and two brothers, James Cayea and Paul Cayea. Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Finocan Funeral Home, 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville. A service will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Donald Czelusniak, pastor of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, will officiate. Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematory, Schenectady. Burial will take place in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown in the spring.

Paul C. Querbes

Mr. Paul C. Querbes, 80, of Gloversville, died Sunday at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, Gloversville. He was born on March 4, 1920 in Montreal Canada, the son of Joseph and Pauline Gilbert Querbes. Mr. Querbes moved to Gloversville as a small child. He graduated from Gloversville High School where he played basketball. He served in the Army during World War II. He began his career as an apprentice glove cutter at the former Myers Glove Co., Gloversville. He then was a bookkeeper in the freight department at the former FG & J Railroad. He retired in 1990 after 30 years as a building superintendent of the Gloversville YMCA. Survivors include his wife, the former Ila Jean Graff, whom he married on July 5, 1976; one son, James Querbes of Greenfield Center, Saratoga County; one daughter, Paulette Lizotte of Liverpool, Onondaga County; one sister, Madeliene Dunham of Gloversville; one stepson, Dale Klock of Gloversville; two stepdaughters, Linda Howland of Gloversville and Charlene Milniekiewecz of Fly Creek, Otsego County; six step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker St., Gloversville. A prayer service will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville. The Rev. David Tressic, pastor, will be celebrant. Burial will take place in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Johnstown, in the spring.

Doris H. Schoner Rochler

Mrs. Doris H. Schoner Rochler, 73, of Gloversville, died Jan. 2 at home. She was born on July 27, 1927, in Hawthorne, Westchester County, the daughter of Robert and Harriet Baker. She was a railroad worker. Survivors include three sons, Joseph Schoner of Mayfield, Frank Rochler of Huntington, Suffolk County and George Rochler of Connecticut; one daughter, Lorraine Albrecht of Hicksville, Nassau County; one brother, Robert Baker of Pine Plains, Dutchess County; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Rochler. Burial took place at Pinelawn Memorial Park. Arrangements were by Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, 47 Jerusalem Ave., Hicksville.

Rose Donahue

Mrs. Rose Donahue, 81, a former resident in Schenectady, mother of an Amsterdam resident, died Monday at Hallmark Nursing Center, Schenectady, after a long illness. She was born in Schenectady. Mrs. Donahue was a lifelong resident. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Donahue was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Schenectady. Survivors include four sons, Arthur Donahue of East Greenbush, Paul Donahue and James Donahue, both of Schenectady, and Thomas Donahue of Amsterdam; one sister, Mary Blaauboer of Albany; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, Emery Donahue, who died in 1959. Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at DeLegge Funeral Home, 1346 Chrisler Ave., Schenectady. A service will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Schenectady. Burial will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady.
