Roy A. Ward

Roy A. "Huck" Ward, 86, formerly of Franklin Street, Gloversville, died Sunday, Feb. 3, at Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility in Gloversville after a long illness. Mr. Ward was born on Oct. 31, 1915 in Gloversville, the son of Alfred A. and Florence Hill Ward. Mr. Ward was educated in Gloversville schools. He was supervisor for the Gloversville school system for over 40 years. He was a veteran of the Navy during WWII, serving in the European Theater. Roy was very active in city and county politics. He was instrumental in the planning of the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility. He was the 5th Ward alderman and Fulton County supervisor until the early 90's. Mr. Ward was also chairman of Fish and Wildlife Management, being appointed in 1965. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, a charter member of Camp Chuck A. Muck Gang in Speculator, N.Y. Roy married Marguerite B. Bell Ward in June 1939. He is survived by two daughters, Sally Risner and her husband Bob of Plymouth, Mass., Patricia Sadlier and her companion, Bernard Malone of Mansfield, Mass.; one brother, Jack E. Ward of Gloversville; one sister, Frances Bell of Newport, N.H.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Ward was predeceased by two sisters, Marian Smolik of Gloversville and Dorothy Johannes. Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at John W. Finocan Funeral Home Inc., 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Bishop Norman F. Strauss will officiate. Spring interment will take place at Algonquin Cemetery in Wells. Contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Thomas James Bulger Sr.

Mr. Thomas James Bulger Sr., 67, of Midline Road, Broadalbin, N.Y., died Sunday, Feb. 3, at home. He was born on Feb. 9, 1934 in Broadalbin, N.Y., the son of Thomas and Ruth Peck Bulger. He served in the Air Force. Mr. Bulger was a self-employed logger and operated Bulger & Sons Logging Co. in Broadalbin for 30 years. He was married to Frances Kalil for 43 years. She survives as well as his sons, Ernie Bulger of Ballston Spa, N.Y., Thomas Bulger Jr. and Bruce Bulger, both of Broadalbin, N.Y., and Charlie Bulger of Amsterdam, N.Y.; daughter, Jennifer Christopher of Broadalbin, N.Y.; sister, Margaret King of Gloversville, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers, Bob Bulger and John Bulger; and sister, Annie Williams. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main St., Broadalbin, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. R.W. Williams will officiate. Interment will take place in the spring at Broadalbin Mayfield Rural Cemetery, Broadalbin. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078.

Helen Lucina Lockwood

Helen Lucina Lockwood, 82, died Saturday, Feb. 2, at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a long illness. She was born on Sept. 12, 1919 in Oneida County, the daughter of Leslie and Bracie Fredenburg. She lived in the area most of her life and was employed at the Acme supermarkets for many years until retirement. She is survived by her brother, Frank Fredenburg of Gloversville; and sister, Betty Lou Leonardi of Mayfield, N.Y.; daughters, Beverly Vose and Dawn Blood, and son, Robert Lockwood, all of the area, and daughter, Carol Coleman of Jacksonville, Fla.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by sisters, Beverly Bassler and Pauline Fredenburg; brothers, Robert and John Fredenburg; son, Norman Lockwood; and one grandson, Clifford Jr. She resided with her granddaughter, Roberta Dwyer of Gloversville. The family will be receiving friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will take place at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to the Make A Wish Children's Foundation.

Mrs. Rosanne H. Neznek

Mrs. Rosanne H. Neznek, 81, of Apache Junction, Ariz., a native of Amsterdam, died Feb. 7 at home. She was born on May 18, 1918 in Amsterdam, the daughter of Henry and Mary Gahen Hartmann. Mrs. Neznek spent her childhood days in Scotch Bush and Amsterdam, near the Hartmann Farm. She moved to the Mariaville Lake area after World War II. She moved to Colorado in 1983 and travelled heavily throughout the Rocky Mountain region and the Southwest. She moved to Arizona in 1995. She retired from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. She previously worked as a clerk for the Mariaville School and at General Electric Co., Schenectady, during World War II. On June 6, 1943, she married William A. Neznek, who predeceased her. She is survived by two sons, David Neznek of Longmont, Colo. and Mark Neznek of Arizona; and one daughter, Diane Corrigan of Lafayette, Colo. Services were conducted in Arizona. Local arrangements were by Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Amsterdam.

Gloria I. Bleyl

Mrs. Gloria I. Bleyl, 75, of Gloversville, died Wednesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home. She was born on Dec. 23, 1924 in Union City, N.J., the daughter of George and Edna Meehan Rocker. Mrs. Bleyl was a graduate of Weehawken High School in New Jersey. She was employed by Guarantee Trust Co, New York City, from 1943 to 1947; and for 17 years as a cafeteria worker for the Gloversville School District. She retired in 1986. Mrs. Bleyl was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Gloversville, and its Lutheran Church Women's group. She was a former Sunday School teacher and was a junior choir director. She was on the worship and music committee and other church organizations. Mrs. Bleyl was a charter member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary; and a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, presently with the Cayadutta Chapter. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, Johnstown; the Sacandaga Women's Golf League; and the Fulton County Handy Dandy Club. Survivors include her husband, Robert C. Bleyl, whom she married on June 14, 1947; one son, Douglas Bleyl of Broadalbin; one sister, Arlene Benson of Fayetteville, Ga.; four grandchildren; two nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by one son, Russell Bleyl, who died in 1995. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Lutheran Church, 521 N. Main St., Gloversville. The Rev. Lauretta J. Dietrich, pastor, will officiate. Burial will take place in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.

Donald A. Foster

Mr. Donald A. Foster, 76, of Johnstown, died Tuesday at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home, where he had been a patient since Oct. 1, 1999. He was born on Nov. 5, 1923 in Johnstown, the son of Clarence A. and Emily Burton Foster. Mr. Foster was a 1941 graduate of Johnstown High School. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a founding partner of Silk Screen Art, Johnstown, where he was employed from 1942 until he retired in 1991. Mr. Foster was a member of First United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 472 the Johnstown Historical Society and the Association for the Blind, and a charter member and former president of JAVAC. Survivors include his wife, the former Helen L. Ashcroft; one daughter, Lyn Redfern of Duluth, Ga.; three brothers, Milton Foster of Miami, Fla., Everett Foster of Hampton, Va. and Burton Foster of Merritt Island, Fla.; one sister, Lois Sammons of St Johnsville; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Emmett Foster. A calling hour will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Ehle Funeral Home, 15 N. William St., Johnstown. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Cremation will take place at Leatherstocking Crematory, Cherry Valley, Otsego County.

Frank A. Looker

Mr. Frank A. Looker, 78, of Niskayuna, the stepfather of a Northville resident, died Wednesday at Alterra at Clare Bridge, where he had been a patient for two weeks. He was born in Glens Falls. Mr. Looker was a graduate of Glens Falls High School and received a degree in civil engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy. He moved to Schenectady in 1947. He served in the Army during World War II. He was employed for 27 years as a bridge engineer for the New York State Department of Transportation, retiring in 1984. Mr. Looker was a member of Niskayuna Reformed Church and its Men Of Retirement Age and Pairs and Spares. He was a member of the Schenectady Racquet Club and the Society of Civil Engineers. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, the former Jeanne Searles; three sons, Timothy Looker of Albany, Peter Looker of Ballston Lake, Saratoga County, and Andrew Looker of Clifton Park; three stepdaughters, Penny Gleaves of Northville, Susan Beers of Rensselaer and Sally Beers of New Jersey; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Dorothy Fransen, who died in 1964; and one brother, Charles B. Looker Jr., who died in August. Calling hours will be 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St., Schenectady. A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Niskayuna Reformed Church. Burial will take place in Niskayuna Reformed Church Cemetery.
