Ovideo Tasciotti

Ovideo Tasciotti, 74, of DeGiorgi Lane, Fonda died Saturday from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
His wife, Yolanda, and grandson, Matthew Smith, also died in the accident.
He was born on March 3, 1927 in Sezze, Italy, the son of Francesco and Adelia LaPenna Tasciotti.
He was a lifelong area resident and moved to Fonda, as a young child in 1930.
He was a graduate of Fonda High School.
Mr. Tasciotti worked for many years for various mills and glove factories, lastly working for Mario Papa & Sons glove factory until his retirement.
He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Johnstown.
Mr. Tasciotti was married on Oct. 26, 1947 to Yolanda Caraco.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Adele Tasciotti of Columbia, Mo., Linda Amrhein of Bloomfield, Conn., and Gloria Tasciotti of Hagaman; three grandchildren, Kristen Amrhein, Brian and Scott Kneeskern; two great-grandchildren, Kristen Sweet and Brett Kneeskern; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive relatives and friends 4 to 7 p.m. today at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.

Yolanda Tasciotti, 76, of DeGiorgi Lane, Fonda, died Saturday from injures sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Her husband Ovideo and grandson Matthew Smith also died in the accident.
She was born on Oct. 6, 1924 in Johnstown, the daughter of Joseph and Rosalie Greco Caraco.
She was a lifelong area resident and attended Johnstown schools.
Mrs. Tasciotti worked for Crescendo Gloves in Johnstown for many years.
She then went to work for Mario Papa & Sons glove factory for a short time until her retirement.
She was married on Oct. 26, 1947 to Ovideo Tasciotti.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Adele Tasciotti of Columbia, Mo., Linda Amrhein of Bloomfield, Conn. and Gloria Tasciotti of Hagaman; two brothers, Emilio Caraco of Newfane, N.Y. and John Caraco of Utica; two sisters, Josephine Riley of Barstow, Calif. and Frances Lauria of Gloversville; three grandchildren, Kristen Amrhein, Brian and Scott Kneeskern; two great-grandchildren, Kristen Sweet and Brett Kneeskern; and several nieces and nephews.

Stanley P. Tybor

Mr. Stanley P. Tybor, 78, of Route 67, Johnstown, died Monday, April 23, at home after a long illness.
He was born on March 30, 1922 in Amsterdam, the son of Anthony and Madeline Mierzwa Tybor.
Mr. Tybor attended Amsterdam schools and was of the Catholic faith.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
Mr. Tybor was employed as a leather worker at the former Risedorph Tannery, Gloversville, until his retirement in 1984.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Hazzard Tybor, whom he married on March 16, 1957; four sons, Philip A. Tybor of Johnstown, Barry Tybor of Gloversville, Chester Fasani of Johnstown and Louis Fasani of Texas; one daughter, Barbara Cary of Johnstown; two sisters, Lillian Renzo and Isabelle Palilunas, both of Amsterdam; 23 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Tybor was predeceased by a sister, Bernadine D. Tybor, who died Feb. 26, 2001.
The Rev. James Fitzmaurice will officiate.
Burial will take place at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.

Barbara A. Heaton

Barbara A. Heaton, 67, of Amsterdam, died Thursday evening at Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility following a brief illness.
She was born on Nov. 16, 1933 in Amsterdam, the daughter of George and Sarah Norris Stangle.
Mrs. Heaton was a 1950 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School and a lifelong area resident.
She was a homemaker for many years before becoming a certified nursing assistant.
Mrs. Heaton was employed as such at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital and Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility.
She retired in 1995 after 20 years of service.
Mrs. Heaton was a former member of the Lions Club in Amsterdam.
She was predeceased by two brothers, George R. Stangle, who died in 1990, and Clifford Stangle, who died in 1989.
Survivors include four children, Donald Heaton of Saratoga Springs, Jeffrey Heaton of Amsterdam, Laurie Lawton and her husband, Paul of Broadalbin and Mary Jo Schrader and her husband, Alan of Broadalbin; three brothers, Robert Stangle of Broadalbin, Richard Stangle of Selkirk and Edward Stangle of Glens Falls; five sisters, Jeannette Stangle of Broadalbin, Gertrude Natale and Elizabeth Grajewski, both of Fort Myers, Fla., Doris Karchesky of Amsterdam, Mary Ester Nicholas of Lockport, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Laci Lawton-Ratzer of Latham, Paul Lawton, Jr. of Broadalbin, Heather and Ashleigh Heaton of Schenectady, Sarah, Joseph and Alexandria Schrader of Broadalbin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation will be performed at Parkview Crematorium, Schenectady.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc., 38 W. Main St., Broadalbin, with the Rev. Dan Wheeler officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Amsterdam or to Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, both in care of the funeral home.
Elizabeth V. Wheeler

Elizabeth V. Wheeler, 93, of Glenville, died Jan. 30, at Glendale Home after a long illness.
She was born in Rockingham, N.C., and was a lifelong area resident.
At one time, she lived on Academy Street, Amsterdam.
She was a homemaker.
She was past president and a former member of the First Reformed Church Neighborhood Club, a member of the Scotia-Glenville Gold and Silver Club, a member of the Leisure Club, a member of the Happy Travelers of the Gold and Silver Club, a member of the AARP, and a member of the First Reformed Church of Scotia.
Her husband of 43 years, Charles D. Wheeler, died in 1972.
Survivors include a son, James V. Wheeler of Broadalbin; a daughter, Caroline W. Snyder of Schaghticoke; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the White Funeral Home, 264 N. Ballston Ave. (Route 50), Scotia.
Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Scotia.
There will be one calling hour before services.
Memorial contributions may go to the Leukemia Society.
Mary A. Cranker

Mrs. Mary A. Cranker, 88, of Fonda, died unexpectedly Thursday morning at home.
She was born on Nov. 11, 1912 in Fonda, the daughter of Michael and Mary Mannion Sexton.
She was a lifelong resident of Fonda and a graduate of Fonda High School.
She was employed as a telephone operator in Johnstown for a number of years.
She was also a homemaker.
Mrs. Cranker was a communicant of St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church in Fonda.
On Nov. 29, 1947, she married William G. Cranker, who died on Jan. 20.
She is survived by a son, William M. Cranker of Amsterdam; four grandchildren, and cousins.
The funeral service will be held at 9:15 a.m. Monday at Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, Inc., 15 Main St., Fultonville, followed by a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church, Fonda.
Burial will take place in spring in St. Cecilia's Cemetery, Fonda.
The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert Valachovic

Robert Valachovic, 76, died Friday at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, where he had been a patient since Jan. 25.
He was born Nov. 24, 1924, in Johnstown, the son of Stephen and Agnes Smrtic Valachovic.
Valachovic was a 1942 graduate of Johnstown High School and was vice-president of his class.
He was a 1943 graduate of the New York State Maritime Academy of Fort Schuyler.
He graduated from Hartwick College in 1950 and received an advanced degree from Syracuse University in 1951.
He received a master's degree from SUNY-Albany in 1952 and a doctorate degree from SUNY-Albany in 1966.
He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II from 1943 to 1946 and was discharged in 1961 with the rank of lieutenant commander.
Mr. Valachovic began his career teaching English in Marlboro, then at Gloversville Middle School.
He then became school psychologist for the Fulton-Hamilton-Herkimer-Montgomery counties Board of Cooperative Educational Services for 12 years.
He was school psychologist for the Saugerties schools for four years and was a psychologist for SUNY-Fredonia for four years.
He served as director of pupil personnel at Pittsfield, Ma., and was then director of career education for St. Lawrence County.
He served as superintendent of Stratford Schools, retiring in 1986.
After his retirement from public education, he had an active private practice in psychology.
Mr. Valachovic was a member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church and was presently serving as the chairman of the building and grounds and long-range planning committees.
He was a member and former treasurer of the Johnstown Council of Churches.
He was one of the original organizers of the free holiday meals program in Johnstown, and an active member of the First Night committee since its inception.
Mr. Valachovic was a 54-year member and past master of St. Patrick's Lodge No. 4 F & AM, past grand representative to Colorado for the Grand Lodge of New York State, member of Cyprus Shrine, past president of the Adirondack Shrine Club, member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, member and past patron and present associate patron of St. Monica Chapter No. 486 O.E.S., former member and past royal patron and assistant grand lecturer of the Order of the Amaranth, member and assistant chaplain of the Johnstown V.F.W. Post, and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose No. 1185.
He was a committeeman of Johnstown and served as city chairman before becoming mayor from 1994-98.
He is survived by his wife, the former L. Marie Kitchen of Johnstown, whom he married Aug. 14, 1948; one son, Glenn R. Valachovic of Johnstown; one daughter, Alison Apple of Charlotte, N.C.; two grandsons and two granddaughters; two nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a brother, George Valachovic, who died in 1995.
Calling hours are 7-9 p.m. Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Ehle Funeral Home, 15 North William St., Johnstown. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, Johnstown.
Burial is in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.
