Gladys Ackerknecht

Mrs. Gladys Ackerknecht, 88, formerly of Temple Street, Gloversville, died today at Green Mountain Nursing Facility in Colchester, Vt. She was born on March 5, 1913 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Herbert and Mary Tyler Thompson. She graduated from Gloversville High School. She worked for the FJ&G Railroad in the freight office as a clerk and typist and for 20 years was a secretary at the former N.A. Taylor Co. of Gloversville. She retired in 1975. She is survived by one daughter, Linda Connelly of Bend, Ore.; one son, John C. Ackerknecht of Williston, Vt.; one sister, Eva Banovic of Gloversville; two grandchildren, David and Alison Ackerknecht; and several nieces and nephews. She was married on Oct. 18, 1939 to Donald P. Ackerknecht, who died in 1980. She was also predeceased by one brother, Herbert Thompson; and one sister, May Keaveney. Calling hours will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.

Clifford R. Klaiber

Mr. Clifford R. Klaiber, 78, of 8 Spruce Lane, Gloversville, died Thursday, Oct. 18, at home. He was born on April 1, 1923 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Klaiber. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II from 1942 to 1945 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was a building supervisor, employed by Heritage House of East Rockaway, L.I., until his retirement in 1990. Mr. Klaiber was of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed fishing and owned carrier pigeons, which he entered in competition races. On July 11, 1964, he was married to Marion J. Maloy, who survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Kelly M. Klaiber of Johnstown; his son, Clifford Mahan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Robert Klaiber in 1973. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main St., Broadalbin, where a prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Timothy Mangan, pastor of St. Joseph's Church, will officiate. Interment will take place at Broadalbin Mayfield Rural Cemetery, Broadalbin.

Robert H. Parslow

Robert H. Parslow, 85, of Route 8, Lake Pleasant, died Wednesday evening at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for one month. He was born on July 24, 1916 in Lake Pleasant, the son of Henry and Bertha Morrison Parslow. He was a graduate of Wells High School. He worked for New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the town of Lake Pleasant at one time. He owned and operated a boat livery in Lake Pleasant for many years. He was a World War II Army veteran and served in the Rhineland. Survivors include six cousins, Josephine O'Connell and Dora Harrison, both of Lake Pleasant, John Parker of Florida, Roy Parker of Wells, and Calvin and Clarence Morrison, both of Speculator. His wife, June Parslow, died in 1988. A graveside service will be held at a later date at South Shore Cemetery, Lake Pleasant. Memorial contributions may be made to the Speculator Ambulance Corps. Arrangements are by Northville Funeral Home.

Norma Elizabeth Parsons

Norma Elizabeth Parsons, 84, of Parsons Farm, Norboro Road, Gloversville, died early the morning of Oct. 19 at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a short illness. She was born on June 5, 1917 on the family farm in the town of Johnstown, the daughter of Duncan MacGregor and Helene Cohen Parsons. She graduated from Gloversville High School in 1935, and from Middlebury College, Vermont, in 1939. She worked from the New York State Employment Office in Gloversville, Nathan Littauer Hospital, and operated her own business called Rita Products, along with the late Dorothy Wells. She was a charter member of 1790 Club of the former Kingsborough Presbyterian Church; a supporter, advocate, board member, officer and volunteer of Gloversville YWCA for 50 years, a 49-year member of Johnstown Business and Professional Women's Club, where she was president from 1962 to 1964, Woman of the Year in 1980, chairman of many committees and served as parliamentarian and mentor for many years. She was also a member of the Audubon Bird Club; Sierra Club, and Bernese Mountain Dog Club of New York. She was known for her wonderful, friendly, huge dogs, who loved to visit the local banks and businesses. She was also a member of the Pleasant Square Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She is survived by a sister, Jean Parsons Ross of Winter Park, Fla.; two nephews; one niece; one grandnephew; and one grandniece. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Bonnie Orth will officiate. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Thelma E. Deming

Thelma E. Deming, 79, of Forest Hill Towers, Gloversville, died Sunday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam following a long illness. She was born on Nov. 9, 1921 in Batchellerville, the daughter of Warren and Alethia Millington Deming. She was a lifetime resident of the area. She was employed by Amsterdam Print & Litho for many years. Survivors include one son, Charles Cornell of Arkansas; one brother, C. Jack Deming of Edinburg; three sisters, Freda Vandenburg, Ruth Simpson and Lula La Port, all of Edinburg; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Robert Deming. Burial will take place at Edinburg Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department or Edinburg Methodist Church.

Ambrose Michael Eastwood

Ambrose Michael Eastwood, 88, beloved husband of Elsie (Schlote) Eastwood for 55 years, passed away on Oct. 14, in St. Cloud, Fla. A native of Johnstown, N.Y., he is also survived by his daughter, Amy Eastwood; son-in-law, Mark Hulliung; grandchildren, Maxwell and Meg Hulliung; and several nieces and nephews. He was a veteran of World War II and a longtime employee of Gifford Motor Sales and Kentris Motors. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at St. Patrick's Church in Johnstown. Betty Margaret Grimm

Betty Margaret Grimm, 79, of Pinewood Drive, Guilderland, N.Y., died Oct. 21, at St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady after a short illness. She was born in Schenectady and was a lifelong area resident. She was educated in Schenectady schools. She was a homemaker in her own home. She was of Reformed faith. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Robert A. Grimm; one son, Robert A. Grimm Jr. of Schenectady, N.Y.; two daughters, Pamela J. Persse of Broadalbin, N.Y. and Jan E. Chesnut of Delanson, N.Y.; one brother, Donald Collins of Burnt Hills, N.Y.; one sister, Doris Murtaugh of Rotterdam, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Harold E. Harrington

Harold E. Harrington, 77, of Maple Avenue, Gloversville, died Saturday evening at Nathan Littauer Hospital. He was born on Aug. 19, 1924 in Wells, the son of Edward and Elsie Stuart Harrington. He was an Army veteran of WWII and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was employed as a lumberman by Great Eastern Lumber Co. of North Creek, N.Y. He was a former member of Wells Fire Department and Wells Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include four sons, Eugene Harrington of Wells, Paul Harrington of Nantucket, Mass., Norman Harrington of Gloversville and Mark Harrington of San Manuell, Ariz.; one brother, Donald Harrington of Wells; two sisters, Betty Whitman and Ruth Bartholf, both of Hope; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge St., where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will take place at Wells Cemetery. Macel A. Warren

Mrs. Macel A. Warren, 91, of West Montgomery Street, Johnstown, died Saturday at home after being stricken. She was born on April 23, 1910 in Johnstown, the daughter of Daniel and Mabel Stewart Allen. Mrs. Warren was a member of the Lions Auxiliary, Johnstown; VFW Auxiliary, and Johnstown 50 Plus Senior Citizens. She was employed with Delco in New Jersey, the former Johnstown Knit and Diana Knit and worked as a waitress for the former Sir William Grill in Johnstown. Survivors include two sons, Robert Muhlberger of Schenectady and Donald Muhlberger of Chatham, N.J.; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Warren was predeceased by her husband, Clyde K. Warren, whom she married on Nov. 23, 1949. He died June 1, 1975. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main St., Johnstown. The Rev. Don English will officiate.
