Courtney M. Blowers, 29, of South Windsor, Ct., died Aug. 27 in South
Windsor. Born June 23, 1967 in New London, Ct., she was the daughter of
Janice M. and Willard G. Blowers.
Miss Blowers holds degrees from the Watkinson School in Hartford, a
paralegal certificate from the Hartford College for Women, Hartford; and
a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Hartford, West Hartford.
Survivors, including her parents, are her fiance, Brian Zawodniak of
South Windsor, formerly of Wethersfield; her sister, Robin L. Blowers,
of Hartford; her grandmothers, Ruth E. Frasier of Fultonville, and Mary
R. Blowers of Johnstown; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Courtney

Lewis Frederick
Lewis S. Frederick, 72, of Argersinger Road, Fultonville, died Monday
at home after a long illness.
Born in Tribes Hill, on Feb. 14, 1924, he was the son of Lewis S. Frederick
Sr., and Marion Albrecht. Mr. Frederick attended local schools.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Frederick was a truck driver for Randall Implement, retiring earlier
this year, due to the onset of illness.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Williams Frederick, whom he married
Aug. 1, 1970; three daughters, Cindy Monk of Fultonville, Rose Palmer of
Rochester and Kathy Thompson of Wichita, Kan.; four sons, Roger Frederick
of Amsterdam, Scott Frederick of Fultonville, Joseph and Lewis Paul Frederick,
both of Rochester; four sisters, Beverly Dutcher of Gloversville, Marie
Doyle of Johnstown, Susan Bailey of Hope, Hamilton County, and Shirley
Van Lone of Indiana; three brothers, Gene Frederick of Johnstown, Charles
Frederick of Gloversville and Richard Frederick of Fonda; seven grandchildren;
and several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home,
215 E. Main St., Johnstown, with the Rev. Williams officiating. Calling
hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Fern Dale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or to
the American Cancer Society.
Gladys Birdsong
Gladys E. Birdsong, 78, of the Palatine Nursing Home, died Tuesday at
the nursing home.
Born Nov. 19, 1917 in the Town of Canajoharie, she was the daughter
of Earl and Ethel Wessels Vosburgh. She was a graduate of Canajoharie High
School, Class of 1935.
For 46 years, Mrs. Birdsong lived in Perrine, Fla., before moving back
to Canajoharie.
She was married to Stephen Birdsong. He died in 1992.
Mrs. Birdsong was last employed at Burdine's Clothing Store in Miami,
Fla. At one time, she worked in the office at Beech Nut in Canajoharie.
Mrs. Birdsong was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include her brother, Earl W. Vosburgh of Canajoharie; four
sisters, Beatrice Voght and Marian Stevens, both of Canajoharie; Jean Peterson
of St. Johnsville, and Norma Wells of Canajoharie; her step-father, Hyman
Wasserman of Canajoharie; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Smith-Woody
and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, with the Rev. Wayne
Cole, officiating. Burial will be in Canajoharie Falls Cemetery, Canajoharie.
Calling hours are from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

John O'Connor
John F. O' Connor, 86, formerly of Willow Street, Gloversville, died
Tuesday at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, after a long illness.
Born in Gloversville, Mr. O' Connor was a1929 graduate of Gloversville
High School.
He was a clerk for the U.S. Post Office, retiring in 1976 after many
years of service.
During World War II, Mr. O'Connor was a sergeant with the U.S. Army's
871st Ordnance Maintenance Company, serving in the Persian Gulf, New Zealand
and Australia.
Many years ago, Mr. O'Connor worked at the Navy Depot in Scotia and
for the General Electric Company in Schenectady.
Mr. O'Connor was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic
Church.
He was a member of the American Postal Workers Union and the National
Association of Postal Clerks. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans
of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include a sister, Lucinda Olsinski of Jackson Heights; and
a brother, Emmett D. O'Connor of Johnstown.
A prayer service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at the John W. Finocan
Funeral Home, 13 Prospect Ave., followed at 9:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel
Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Burial will be in St. Cecilia's Cemetery in Fonda.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the
funeral home.

Joseph Czelusniak
Joseph P. Czelusniak, 93, of the Mount Loretto Nursing Home, Amsterdam,
formerly of Clark Avenue, died Tuesday at the home.
A lifelong Amsterdam resident, Mr. Czelusniak worked for the Bigelow-Sanford
Carpet Mills at one time.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and the former St. John's
Club.
His wife, Josephine Dlugolacki Czelusniak, whom he married June 8, 1929,
died in 1992.
Survivors include two sons, Edward Czelusniak of Schenectady and Richard
Czelusniak of Dove Canyon, Calif.; two daughters, Clara Kolacki of Amsterdam,
and Mary Ann Celmer of Dillon, S.C.; three brothers, Klemens and Thomas
Czelusniak, both of Amsterdam, and Leonard Czelusniak of Pine, Ariz.; two
sisters, Ada Wanda Dybas of Amsterdam and Sister Mary Eulogia of Schenectady;
10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Guzielek-Pomykaj Funeral
Home, 13 Belmont Place, Amsterdam, and at 9 a.m. at St. John the Baptist
Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral
home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the nursing home.
Clements Ostrowski
Clements 'Happy' Ostrowski, 74, of 2400 Seabring Drive, Lake Havasu
City, Ariz., died unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 3 in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.
Born in Amsterdam, he was the son of Szczepan and Aniela Wojnowska Ostrowski.
Mr. Ostrowski was a former resident of Amsterdam, until he moved to California
and for the past 10 years had resided in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. He was
educated in Amsterdam.
Mr. Ostrowski was a tool and die maker until retiring several years
ago.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Ostrowski; one daughter, Diane Manistra
of Yorba Linda, Calif.; one son, David Ostrowski of La Mirada, Calif.;
six grandchildren; and four nieces and several cousins. Mr. Ostrowski is
predeceased by a son, Stephen Ostrowski.
Funeral services and burial took place on Saturday Sept. 7, in Lake
Havasu.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Ostrowski's memory to the
Church of St. John the Baptist Church, 44 Vanderveer St., Amsterdam.
Dorothy Byard
Dorothy L. Byard, of State Highway 30, Delanson, died Monday at home
after a short illness.
Born in Scotch Plains, N.J., she wintered in Bradenton, Fla. She moved
to Delanson in 1965 from New Jersey.
Mrs. Byard worked at RCA in New Jersey and in the Hematology Lab at
Ellis Hospital in Schenectady for 11 years.
She was a member of Pine Hill Beagle Club in Guilderland, and the Mohawk
Valley Art and Wood Carving Association; and a volunteer for South Eastern
Guide Dogs and Pelican Mans Bird Sanctuary, both in Florida.
She was married to Everett W. Byard. He died Sept. 27, 1990.
Mrs. Byard is survived by two sons, William Byard of Salem, Mass.; and
Everett Byard Jr. of South Plainfield, N.J.; one daughter, Evelyn Hoops
of Montville, N.J.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Joseph LaRue
Joseph B. LaRue, 73, of Springfield Road, Wilmington, died Sunday at
the Adirondack Medical Center, Saranac Lake.
Born in Charlton, Mr. LaRue was a plant operator for the Cushing Stone
& Gravel Company in Amsterdam for 20 years before retiring.
He was the widower of his first wife, Geneva LaFountain LaRue.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Geppner LaRue, whom he married June
12, 1982; nine daughters, Carolyn Way of Wilmington, Donna Warren of Scotia,
Sandra Smith of Plattsburgh, Anna Payro of AuSable Forks, Victoria Macey
of Saranac Lake, Alma Getman of Lassellsville, Margaret Haskell of Ballston
Spa, Jo-Etta Butter of Schenectady, Susan Whitehead of Virginia; five sons,
George LaRue of Ballston Spa, Monty, Marty and Marcel Bruce, all of Wilmington,
and Michael LaRue of Virginia; eight sisters, Mary Perry of Ganesvoort,
Bessie Curry of Norfolk, Alma Bass and Margaret Farrell, both of Fort Lauderdale,
Fla.; June Petrey of Las Vegas, Anna Stewart of Schenectady, Doris Hoffman
of Bradenton, Fla., and Dorothy Broughton of Kissimmee, Fla., three brothers,
Russell LaRue of Aurora, Colo., Herman LaRue of Fort Plain, and George
LaRue of Ballston Spa.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Cremation will be at Whispering Maples Crematory, Ellenburg Depot.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Sweetman Cemetery,
Ballston Spa.

or to the American Lung Association.

Martha Baker
Martha LaMothe Baker, 79, of Greenfield., a former resident of Amsterdam,
died Monday afternoon at the home of her daughter, in Goffstown, N.H.,
following long illness.
Mrs. Baker was born June 25, 1917 in Amsterdam, the daughter of George
and Anna Severin Abraham. She resided in Amsterdam until 1942 when she
moved to Greenfield.
She was a 1935 graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam.
Mrs. Baker was first employed by the former Van Raalte Corporation in
Saratoga Springs. She was later employed as a staff attendant by the New
York State Department of Mental Health at the Mount McGregor facility in
Wilton. She retired several years ago.
Mrs. Baker was of the Lutheran faith.
She was first married in 1942 to Eugene R. LaMothe. He died in 1968.
In 1978 she was married to Bernard Baker. He died in 1993.
She is survived by three sons, Eugene G. LaMothe of Fort Worth, Texas,
and Gary J. LaMothe and Wayne E. LaMothe, both of Greenfield; three daughters,
Bonnie LaMothe of Goffstown, N.H., Doreen Emery of Greenfield, and Sandra
Cox of Manchester; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several
nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at the
Betz Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, with the Rev. Robert
Doxey, and Guy LaMothe officiating. The interment will be in St. Mary's
Cemetery, Fort Johnson.
Calling hours will be held today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Dolores Kilgore
Mrs. Dolores E. Kilgore, 61, of Wille Road, Johnstown, died Monday at
home after a long illness.
Born in Glen, Mrs. Kilgore attended local schools.
At one time, she worked for St. Thomas Inc. Recently, she was manager
of the Sunoco Station at Eighth and Kingsboro Avenue in Gloversville, retiring
in 1979.
She married Clarence Kilgore on Aug. 13, 1960.
In addition to her husband, survivors include four daughters, Linda
Hine, Melody Miller and Yvonne Peters, all of Gloversville and Brenda Van
Every of Mayfield; two sisters, Ernestine Hall of Amsterdam and Shirley
Case of Marshfield, N.C.; a brother, Ernest Guyette of Amsterdam; her mother,
Nettie Hazzard Guyette of Amsterdam; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the A.G. Cole
Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral
home.

Kenneth Shaw
Kenneth W. Shaw, 82, of Greenfield Avenue, Ballston Spa, died Tuesday
at Saratoga Hospital after a long illness.
Born Aug. 20, 1914 in Perth, he was the son of David and Minnie Shaw.
He lived in the Ballston Spa area for most of his life. Mr. Shaw was a
farmer and also worked for Ken's Trucking in Ballston Spa for 10 years,
retiring in 1978.
Survivors include one step-daughter, Sherry Chase of Ballston Spa; one
step-son, Paul Chase of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Anna Gray of Johnstown
and Margaret Herrick of Gloversville.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the Hagaman
Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.

John Civic
John Civic, 87, of Fish House Road, Broadalbin, died Tuesday evening
at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.
Born June 17, 1909 in Yonkers, he was the son of Michael and Anastasia
Mahorowicz Siwik and came to this area at the age of 9. He attended schools
in Broadalbin and was a resident for most of his life. He resided at the
Mount Loretto Nursing Home since February, 1996.
Mr. Civic was employed at the former Mohasco Industries of Amsterdam
for 39 years. He later worked at the General Electric Co. in Schenectady
for six years, retiring in 1974. He then worked with the Town of Providence
for three years as landfill supervisor.
Mr. Civic was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Broadalbin. He
was a charter member of the Providence Volunteer Fire Company, and of the
Providence Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
He married the former Mary Sokach on June 3, 1934.
In addition to he wife, survivors include a son, John Civic of Broadalbin;
a daughter, Betty J. Satterlee of Broadalbin; a sister, Katherine Kondrat
of Galway; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Robert
M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 38 W. Main St., Broadalbin followed by a Mass
of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 2 North St., Broadalbin.
Interment will be at St. Basil's Cemetery in Broadalbin.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral
home.
