Adolph Jasper of Gay Lane, Amsterdam, died Thursday morning at the Mount
Loretto Nursing Home following a long illness.
Born in Amsterdam, Mr. Jasper moved to Lodi, N.J., as a young boy and
was a graduate of the Immaculate Conception School.
He had lived in Amsterdam since he returned at age 18.
During World War II, Mr. Jasper served in the U.S. Army and attained
the rank of sergeant. He served with the 85th Infantry Division in the
North African and Italian campaigns. He participated in the liberation
of Rome and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds incurred in that action.
For many years, he was a production controller at the Watervliet Arsenal
before retiring in 1973.
Mr. Jasper was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and its
Holy Name Society and the St. Mary's Seniors group. He was also a member
of St. Matthew's Church of Lake Worth, Fla.
He was also a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus Amsterdam Council
209, the Msgr. William A. Browne Assembly 4th Degree and the Color Corps.
Mr. Jasper was also a member of the Elks Lodge 101, FVW Post 55, and a
lifelong member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 118,
Disabled American Veterans Chapter 100, a member of Club 60 of St. Mary's
Hospital, the General Electric Athletic Association, AARP, the Polish-American
Veterans, the United States Infantry Association and the Polar Bear Association
of World War II.
He married Eleanor Ceil Jasper on Oct. 6, 1946.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one nephew.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Jendrzejczak
Funeral Home, 200 Church St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at
11:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral
home.
Alfred Pastalaniec
Alfred J. Pastalaniec, 73, of Mathias Avenue, Amsterdam, died Wednesday
at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born May 17, 1923, he was the son of Andrew and Nellie Muciek Pastalaniec.
He was a lifelong area resident and was educated in local schools.
Mr. Pastalaniec was employed by the Watervliet Arsenal as a quality
control inspector until retiring in 1983.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 701 and also a member of
the General Electric Athletic Association. He served with the U.S. Coast
Guard during World War II.
He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church.
He married Dorothy W. Pottynski on April 10, 1944.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Daniel D. Pastalaniec
of Houston, Texas; a sister, Isabel F. Pastalaniec of Amsterdam; two grandsons,
David Pastalaniec of Galveston, Texas, and Joseph Pastalaniec of Austin,
Texas; a granddaughter, Joanne Pastalaniec of Houston, Texas, and several
nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at
St. Stanislaus Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Calling hours will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus
School Foundation, St. Stanislaus Church Foundation, or to the Sisters
of St. Joseph Carondelet Retirement Fund, 386 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham,

Preston O'Dell
Preston O'Dell, 71, of 170 South Road, Germantown, died Wednesday at
Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck.
Born Sept. 12, 1925, in Gloversville, he was the son of Preston and
Helen McClary O'Dell Sr.
He resided in Gloversville most of his life and lived for seven years
at the FDR Montrose Veterans Hospital in Montrose, and the last three years,
in Germantown.
Mr. O'Dell was educated in Gloversville schools.
He served in the Army from 1942 to 1945 when he was injured in Germany.
Mr. O'Dell was employed as a laborer with the Winig Slipper Co. in Gloversville
for several years. He was also a dispatcher at several area trucking firms.
He retired several years ago.
Mr. O'Dell is survived by his aunts, Esther Arminio of Fultonville and
Lillian Randall of Gloversville; two uncles, Charles McClary Sr., of Amsterdam
and Charles "Gus" Vozekas of Gloversville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Walrath
& Bushouer Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, with the
Rev. Donald Czelusniak, pastor of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, officiating.
Calling hours will be from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville.
Henry Szurek
Henry R. Szurek, 59, of Watt Street, Schenectady, died Sept. 25 at St.
Clare's Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Amsterdam, Mr. Szurek lived in Schenectady since 1990.
From 1959 to 1972, he served in the U.S. Air Force.
For the past six years, Mr. Szurek was a Capital Region sales representative
for Consolidated Cigar Co. of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
There are no known survivors.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:15 a.m. Saturday at Most
Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are by the Gleason Funeral Home.
Mary Colasanti
Mrs. Mary Concetta Colasanti, 86, formerly of Johnstown, died Wednesday
at the Shoop Adult Home after a long illness.
Born in Graniti, Sicily, Mrs. Colasanti was a coat maker for the Tryon
Sportswear Co.
Mrs. Colasanti was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile
Workers Union.
She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.
She married James I. Colasanti on Aug. 15, 1948. He died in 1983.
Survivors include a son, James Colasanti Jr. of Greensboro, N.C.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday
at the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mary Coons
Miss Mary E. Coons, 72, of the Glendale Home, Glenville, died Thursday
after a long illness.
Born and educated in Schenectady, Miss Coons was a lifelong area resident.
She was a cleaning technician in the area for several years.
Survivors include a sister, Leona Matthews of Scotia; and a brother,
Leonard Sikorski of Amsterdam.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lasak
Funeral Home, 176 Sacandaga Road, Scotia. Burial will be in Park View Cemetery,
Schenectady.
Calling hours will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of
Schenectady.
Mary Soltys
Mary H. Soltys, 87, of 69 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, died this morning
at St. Mary's Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Johnson-Lindsay
Home 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam.
Anthony Picciocca
Anthony Picciocca, 77, of Division Street, Amsterdam, died Thursday
afternoon at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility following
a long illness.
Born Dec. 21, 1918, in Amsterdam, he was the son of Stephen and Angelina
Colucci Picciocca. He was a lifelong resident.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Picciocca was first employed as a weaver and supervisor by Mohasco
Industries in Amsterdam for 32 years. He was later employed as a sheetmetal
worker in the Large Generator Motors Division of the General Electric Co.
in Schenectady, retiring in 1980.
He was a member and past commander of the Frank J. Sirchia Post 32,
Amvets.
Mr. Picciocca was of the Roman Catholic faith.
He married Catherine Sirchia on Nov. 14, 1943.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Stephen Picciocca
and Richard Picciocca, both of Amsterdam; a daughter, Cathy C. Picciocca
of Amsterdam; two brothers, Sam Picciocca and John Picciocca, both of Amsterdam;
four sisters, Julia Martuscello, Stephanie Masto, and Theresa Bilinski,
all of Amsterdam, and Mary DeMeo of Schenectady; five grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mr. Picciocca was pre-deceased by his sister, Jenny Agresta.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Betz Funeral
Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian
Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be
in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Martha Hart
Mrs. Martha Lorraine Hart, 65, of Front Street, Ballston Spa, died Tuesday
at home.
Born in Brooklyn, Mrs. Hart lived in Schenectady for most of her life
before recently moving to Ballston Spa.
She was a stock clerk at the Kmart in Glenville for five years. Previously,
she worked at the Coleco Corp. for six years.
Mrs. Hart attended First Presbyterian Church of Schenectady.
She was the widow of Melvin Arthur Hart Jr.
Survivors include four sons, Melvin A. Hart III of Amsterdam, Robert
E. and Joseph C. Hart, both of Ballston Spa, and Michael Hart of Middlegrove;
two daughters, Mary I. Hart and Barbara J. Wright, both of Ballston Spa;
13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Baxter
Funeral Home, 40 N. Brandywine Ave. Burial will be in Vale Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Ada Mason
Mrs. Ada Parr Mason, 93, of Henrietta Street, Amsterdam, died Thursday
at the Mount Loretto Nursing Home.
Born in Amsterdam, Mrs. Mason was a lifelong area resident.
She attended St. Stanislaus School and the city public school system.
Mrs. Mason worked for Yund-Kennedy-Yund and Bigelow Sanford Carpet Co.,
retiring in 1955.
She also worked at one time as a police matron for the Amsterdam Police
Department.
She was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Church.
Her husband, James Mason, died in 1969.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara J. Mason of Amsterdam, and nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Monday at the Riley Mortuary,
110 Division St. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the nursing home.
William Brooks
William Howard Brooks, 82, of Bisbee, Ariz., died unexpectedly Sept.
28.
He was born in Hagaman July 1, 1914, the son of William Henry and Daisy
Brown Brooks. While in the area he owned and operated a dairy farm.
In 1957, Mr. Brooks and his family moved to Arizona, where he worked
for the Fuller Brush Co., Shamrock Milk Co., Greyhound Bus Co. and Singer
sales and repair.
He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel Brooks; a son, Bill Brooks of Bisbee,
Ariz.; four daughters, Jean Brooks, Caryl Petty, Cathy Acuna and Cindi
Shamp, all of Bisbee; three sisters, Ona Anderson of Bisbee, Winifred Philbrook
of Gloversville and Bessie Mole of Avon Park, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Alma Fudger of Bisbee, in 1995.
Funeral services were Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church
in Bisbee, with the Rev. Mary Flanigan-Croteau officiating.
Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mary Soltys
Mary H. Soltys, 87, of 69 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, formerly of Rockton
Street, died early Friday morning at St. Mary's Hospital.
Miss Soltys was born Oct. 2, 1909, in Amsterdam, the daughter of Andrew
and Tekla Bogdan Soltys. She was educated in Amsterdam schools and was
a lifelong resident of Amsterdam.
She was employed by Fownes Brothers & Co. Inc. for 47 years, retiring
in 1972. She was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church.
Survivors include five nephews, Richard Liszewski of Amsterdam, Edward
Liszewski of Syracuse, Robert Liszewski of Syracuse, Walter Liszewski of
Tully and Frank Ryder of Madison, Conn.; a niece, Lorraine Friderici of
Rockville, Conn.; several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Funeral services are 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Johnson-Lindsay Funeral
Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian
Burial at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church.
Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Home for Elderly Women or
to Hospice of Amsterdam.
Elnora Crozier
Elnora Rapp Crozier, 61, formerly of Rotterdam Junction, died Thursday
at the Montgomery County Infirmary after a long illness.
She was born in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Charles and Mary Rapp,
and lived in the capital region for many years.
She was of the protestant faith.
Her husband, Harry B. Crozier, died in 1982. There are no known survivors.
Funeral services are 1:30 a.m. Monday at the Montgomery County Infirmary,
100 Sandy Drive, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Bill Siiss officiating.
Calling hours are 1 to 1:30 p.m., prior to the service.
Interment will be in Woestina Cemetery, Rotterdam Junction.
Arrangements are by the Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady.
Julia Abucewicz
Julia Abucewicz of Frederick Street, Amsterdam, died Friday afternoon
at St. Mary's Hospital.
She was born in Lipinki, Poland, the daughter of Albert and Mary Ceterski
Wozniak. She came to Amsterdam in 1926 and lived here since.
She was employed by Mohawk Carpet Co. Later, she worked at St. Mary's
Hospital before retiring in 1971.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church and its Rosary Society, and
a member of the Polish Union of America Lodge 369.
She was married to Stanley Abucewicz June 20, 1931. He died June 23,
1988.
Survivors include two nephews, Aloysius Sum of Hallandale, Fla., and
Stanley Sum of Amsterdam; two nieces, Florence Grabicki of Schenectady
and Bernadine Syzdek of Scotia; several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Funeral services are 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home,
200 Church St., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9
a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church.
Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, during which
the Rosary will be recited at 5:15 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Church or school
or to the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Hazel Kraft
Hazel Kraft, 95, of the St. Johnsville Nursing Home, died there Thursday.
She was born Aug. 12, 1901, in St. Johnsville, the daughter of Milton
and Dorn Barker Bolster. She was educated in St. Johnsville schools and
was a lifelong resident of the St. Johnsville area.
She was married to Wesley Kraft in St. Johnsville. He died in 1970.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and its organizations.
Survivors include two sons, Herbert Kraft of St. Johnsville and Leland
Kraft of Florida; a daughter, Janet Johnson of Clinton; a brother, Raymond
Bolster of Johnstown; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four
great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services are Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church,
St. Johnsville, with the Rev. Dennis Fonkert officiating.
Burial will be in West St. Johnsville Cemetery.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral
Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville.
