Henry "Hank" T. Verra, 44, of Glenville Street, Rotterdam, died Wednesday
at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady from injuries suffered from a beating
on Nov. 14.
Born in Schenectady, Mr. Verra was a graduate of Bishop Gibbons High
School.
He was co-owner of the former Shamus Tavern and the former Red Lion
Restaurant and Lounge.
Mr. Verra was a self-employed travel agent for Casino Flings.
He was married to Denise "Dee-Dee" Towns Verra.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his parents, John M. and
Nadine Potter Verra of Rotterdam; three brothers, Michael J. Verra off
Westbury, Jeffrey A. Verra of Rotterdam and Ronald D. Verra of Niskayuna;
and three sisters, Diana M. Seymour of Hillsdale, N.J., Maureen A. Vera
of Rotterdam and Marilyn Therrien of Scotia.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Daly Funeral
Home, 242 McClellan St., and at 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church,
where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in
St. Cyril's Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Henry Young
Henry Young, 57, formerly of Charles Street, Amsterdam, died Wednesday
at Willowood Nursing Home in North Adams, Mass., after a long illness.
Born Oct. 25, 1939 in Johnstown, he was the son of Harold B. and Edna
Schubert Young. He was educated in Johnstown schools.
He was employed as a short order cook at the Auriesville Shrine until
retiring due to illness.
At one time, he served with the Air Force.
He attended Christ Lutheran Church in Johnstown.
He married Lita Carpenter Young on Oct. 31, 1965.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Nancy Kazala
and Kathy Young, both of Amsterdam; three sons, Henry Young Jr. of Gloversville
and Floyd and Harold Young, both of Amsterdam; a sister, Barbara Cooper
of Florida; a brother, Floyd Young of Connecticut; nine grandchildren and
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the A.G. Cole
Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown, with the Rev. Wayne D. Morlitz
officiating.
Burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery in Johnstown.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Edward Kaczor
Edward J. Kaczor, 77, of Fairmount Avenue, Amsterdam, died Thursday
at the Samuel Stratton Veteran's Medical Center in Albany after a long
illness.
Born Dec. 28, 1918 in Amsterdam, he was a son of Julian and Mary Frydlo
Kaczor, he was a lifelong resident and attended local schools. Mr. Kaczor
was an auto mechanic for many years and was the co-owner of the former
A-B-C Motors in Amsterdam. He was later employed for Millbrook Bakeries
in Albany before retiring in 1982.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941 and served in the Philippines.
He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star before being discharged
in 1945.
Mr. Kaczor was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.
His wife, the former Josephine Rossi, died Jan. 31, 1985.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Kaczor of Amsterdam; four daughters,
Elizabeth Spiewak of Pensacola, Fla.; Patricia Mather of Huntsville, Ala.;
Rosanne Rusnica of Pattersonville and Judy Kaczor of Buffalo; two brothers,
Leonard Kaczor and Stanley Kaczor, both of Amsterdam; three sisters, Emily
Casabonne and Kate Delliveneri of Mayfield, and Josephine Caldaroni of
Gloversville; and seven grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:15 a.m. Monday at
St. Mary's Church, 156 E. Main St., Amsterdam. Interment is in Our Lady
of Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Rossi Funeral
Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam.

Eric Knoll
Eric Michael Knoll, 19, of 156 Riceville Road, Mayfield, died suddenly
Thursday at home.
Born Nov. 20, 1977, in Gloversville, he was the son of Michael D. and
Mildred Rhodes Knoll. He lived with his grandparents in Mayfield and was
a 1996 graduate of Mayfield Central School.
He would have begun his enlistment with the U.S. Marines in December.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville.
He is survived by his father, Michael D. Knoll of Gloversville; his
mother, Mildred Barringer of Johnstown; his paternal grandfather, Ronald
G. Knoll of Mayfield; his brother, Jason D. Knoll of Gloversville; a sister,
Jennifer M. Knoll of Johnstown; a half-brother, Ryan Barringer of Johnstown;
his maternal grandmother, Emma Rhodes of Johnstown; his step-mother, Virginia
Knoll of Gloversville; step-sisters Carrie Edick of Gloversville, Rickell
Robbins of Fort Plain and Angel Foster of Gloversville; a step-brother,
Joseph Rote of Johnstown; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
His paternal grandmother, Gloria M. Knoll, died Nov. 7.
Calling hours are Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Walrath & Bushouer
Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday at
Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Thomas J. Boyle, administrator, as celebrant.
Burial will be in Union Rural Cemetery of Mayfield.

Edward Zyzes
Edward A. "Hookey" Zyzes, 72, of New Street, Amsterdam, died Friday
noon at the Hallmark Nursing Center in Schenectady after a long illness.
Born in Amsterdam July 29, 1924, he was the son of Walter and Helen
Rukstikas Zyzes. He was a lifelong area resident and attended Wilbur H.
Lynch High School. Mr. Zyzes also attended the Fork Union Military Academy
in Virginia.
For more than 36 years he was employed by the General Electric Co. in
Schenectady, retiring in 1986.
During World War II, he was a Private 1st Class in the U.S. Army stationed
in Europe. He received the Bronze Service Star.
Mr. Zyzes was a communicant of St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church and
was a member of the American Lithuanian Club, the John J. Wyszomirski American
Legion Post 701, and the G.E. Quarter Century Club.
He married the former Margaret M. Meade Feb. 26, 1949.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Kenneth E. Zyzes
of Tribes Hill and Robert E. Zyzes of Amsterdam; three daughters, Ellen
LeGere of Glendale, Ariz., Carol Lott of Northville and Monica Ravreby
of Cambridge; a brother, Walter Kristie of Liberty, S.C.; nine grandchildren;
nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services are Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the Rossi Funeral Home,
11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Joseph Grabys officiating.
Interment is in St. Casimir's Cemetery.
Calling hours are Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

James Quinn
James E. Quinn, 84, of the Wesley Health Care Center, Saratoga Springs,
died Thursday at the home.
He was born in Rutland, Vt., the son of James and Florence Tennion Quinn
and lived most of his life in the Galway area.
He worked for the Ballston Spa Central School District before retiring.
His wife, Norma Mae Quinn, died in 1961.
Survivors include a son, James O. Quinn of Galway; three daughters,
Jean Tilley of Greenfield Center and Priscilla Harrington and Susan Weaver,
both of Ballston Spa; a brother, Thomas Quinn of Lindenhurst; two sisters,
Margaret Braim of Ballston Spa and Ruth Lord of Santa Clara, Calif.; five
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St.
Mary's Roman Catholic Church, East Street, Galway.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. today at the Richard J. Ryan Funeral Home,
Sacandaga Road, Galway.
Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Saratoga Springs.

Sophie Vaicunas
Sophie Vaicunas, 84, formerly of the Stratton Apartments, Division Street,
Amsterdam, died early Sunday morning at the Montgomery Meadows after a
brief illness.
Born Nov. 4, 1912 in Lithuania, she was a daughter of Frank and Josephine
Butvilas Zilinskas. She came to Amsterdam as a child with her family and
was educated here.
She was employed by Mohawk Carpets and the White Stag Co. and lastly
for the Greater Amsterdam School District as a cafeteria aide until retirement.
Mrs. Vaicunas was a communicant of St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Parish.
Her husband, Anthony Vaicunas, died in 1973.
Survivors include a daughter, Eleanor Juozitis of Endicott; two sisters,
Lillian Slaveikis and Ann Kiselis, both of Amsterdam; a brother, Ben Zilinskas
of Albany; three grandsons, Robert, Paul and Michael Juozitis; five great-grandchildren
and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Rossi
Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian
Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Casimir's Church. Interment is in St. Casimir's
Cemetery.
A calling hour will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Garfield Porter Burnham
Garfield Porter Burnham, 84, of Stone House Road in Fly Creek, died
Sunday morning at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
Born March 8, 1912 in Seneca Falls, he was the son of James Garfield
and Alice Porter Burnham.
Mr. Burnham spent his boyhood in Amsterdam and graduated from Amsterdam
High School. He then went on to graduate from Oswego State University in
1941 and received his master's degree in industrial education from Cornell
University in 1952. For 29 1/2 years he taught industrial arts in Liberty,
retiring in 1970. He had also worked in construction for the New York Power
and Light Corp.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Burnham served with the U.S. Army Air
Corps in Italy from 1942 until 1945.
Mr. Burnham was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association,
the New York State Historical Association, the Fly Creek Area Historical
Association, Friends of Bassett and Friends of the Library.
He married Katherine Miller on July 26, 1942, in Amsterdam.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Nancy Burnham
Favin of Rockville; a son, Commander Robert Miller Burnham, U.S. Navy Retired,
of Marietta, Ga.; a sister, Mary Lucille Burnham of Amsterdam; and five
grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Connell,
Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home, 82 Chestnut St., Cooperstown, with the
Rev. Dr. Horace Brown King, pastor of the Fly Creek United Methodist Church,
officiating. Arthur Henry of Goodyear Lake will offer the eulogy.
Graveside committal prayers will be offered at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the
family plot in Fairview Cemetery in Amsterdam.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral
home.

Frederick Ostrander
Frederick W. Ostrander, 80, of Best Road, Rensselaer, died Saturday
at St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady after a long illness.
Mr. Ostrander was born in North Greenbush. He was the owner of Ferry
Street Welding in Albany for 50 years.
He was a deacon at the Bloomingrove Reformed Church in Defreestville
and a member of the church's Sunday Night Club.
Mr. Ostrander was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was married to Jennie Harris Ostrander.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Dean F. Ostrander
of Delanson; a daughter, Jean M. Somma of San Dimas, Calif.; a brother,
Edward Ostrander of Rensselaer; a sister, Vera Gardner of Roselle Park,
N.J.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bloomingrove
Reformed Church. Burial will be in Bloomingrove Cemetery, Defreestville.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the W.J. Lyons
Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave.

Angelina Buttino
Miss Angelina Buttino, 71, of William Street, Gloversville, died Sunday
at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Gloversville, Miss Buttino was educated in Gloversville schools.
She was a beautician for many years at various shops in Gloversville,
retiring in 1968.
Miss Buttino was a member of the Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens, the National
Hairdressers Association and St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church.
Survivors include two brothers, Cosimo Buttino and Luigi Buttino, both
of Gloversville, and a sister, Pippina D'Errico of Gloversville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Kobuskie-Konik
Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker St., and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel
Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in the spring.

Marion VanEtten
Marion B. VanEtten, 85 of Amsterdam, formerly of Heuvelton, died Sunday
at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
Born March 27, 1911 in Watertown, she was the daughter of William and
Flossie Van Winkle Burmingham. She was a graduate of New Hartford School
and the Utica School of Commerce.
She married Gordon T. VanEtten on Aug. 23, 1931. He died Oct. 19, 1983.
Mrs. VanEtten was of the Methodist faith.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Roberts of Amsterdam and Arlene
Bower of Utica; a son, Gordon E. VanEtten of Vermont; 12 grandchildren;
21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces,
nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Jay W. Dimbleby
Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Whitesboro. Burial will take place in Grand
View Cemetery in Whitesboro.
Calling hours will be from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Josephine Partyka
Josephine B. Partyka, 71, of Crane Street, Amsterdam, died this morning
at St. Mary's Hospital following a long illness.
Born Aug. 31, 1925 in Amsterdam, she was a daughter of Albert and Mary
Przybylo Partyka. She was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School and
was a lifelong city resident.
Miss Partyka was employed by the General Electric Co. in Schenectady
before retiring.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church and its Rosary Society. Mrs.
Partyka was a member of the American Polonaise Society.
Survivors include a sister Genevieve (Jean) Wojcicki of Amsterdam, a
brother, Raymond Partyka of Amsterdam; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Jendrzejczak
Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian
Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus
Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Recitation of
the Rosary will begin at 2:15 p.m.
