Miss Elizabeth Caldwell, 84, of East State Street, Gloversville, died Sunday at Nathan Littauer Hospital.

Miss Caldwell was born and educated in New York City. She moved to Gloversville in 1988 resided at the Lexington Center and was employed at the Lexington Gloversville Day Treatment Center for several years.

There are no immediate survivors.

A service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., where calling hours will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Burial will be in the spring in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Charles Frasier
January 5, 1997

Charles L. Frasier, 79, of Northville Road, Northville, died Sunday, at Nathan Littauer Hospital Gloversville, following a long illness.

Born Feb. 10, 1917 in Indiana, he was the son of Fred and Bertha Mills Frasier. He attended schools in Indiana and came to the Northville area at the age of 13. He was a graduate of Northville Central School, and a graduate of New York State Diesel School, Schenectady. 

Survivors include his wife Pernie Hope Simpson, whom he married Dec. 28, 1940; one son, John H. Frasier of Mayfield, RD; one daughter, Joyce Marcellino of Amsterdam; a brother H. Frasier of Edinburg; six grandchildren; one great grandchild and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Northville Funeral Home on Bridge Street, Northville. Calling hours are Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Spring burial will be in Edinburg Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Edinburg Methodist Church or to the Edinburg Ambulance Corps.
 

Louise Morel
January 5, 1997

Mrs. Louise Trippodo Morel, 77, of Maple Street, Gloversville, died Sunday at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Gloversville Mrs. Morel was a lifetime city resident.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Morel was a communicant of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church. Her husband, Roger, Morel, died in 1989.

Survivors include two sons, Mario Trippodo of Gloversville and Louis Trippodo of Harrisburg, Pa.; a daughter, Judy Plaster of Amsterdam; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A memorial mass will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday Jan. 15, at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, South Main Street.

There will be no calling hours.

Cremation was at the Leatherstocking Crematory in Cherry Valley.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church building fund.

Angeline London
January 6, 1997

Mrs. Angeline London, 90, of Van Dyke Avenue, Amsterdam, died Monday at the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility.

Mrs. London was born May 17, 1906 in Rome, N.Y., a daughter of John and Maria Theresa Opedassano Perry. She was educated in Rome schools. Mrs. London had been employed as a buyer and a clerk by the former Spear's and Co. in Rome until moving to Amsterdam in 1936. She was a communicant of St. Michael The Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam, and a member of its Rosary Altar Society.

She married Jack A. London in 1936. He died in 1985.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. Anthony R. London of Amsterdam, and John L. London also of Amsterdam; one sister, Helen V. Perry of Amsterdam; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 8:15 a.m. on Thursday at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam followed at 9 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael's Church. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
 

Mary Pomilio
January 5, 1997

Mrs. Mary Petrella Pomilio, 87, a former resident of Amsterdam, died Sunday evening at the Maplewood Manor in Ballston Spa.

Born Oct. 2, 1909 in Drifton, N.J., she was the daughter of Peter and Josephine Romano Petrella. She moved to Amsterdam in 1916, and then to Ballston Spa in 1990. She had been a resident of Maplewood Manor for the past four years.

She was employed as a seamstress by the former Chalmers Knitting Mill and the White Stag Company, retiring in 1974.

Mrs. Pomilio was a member of the St. Sofia Society.

She was a communicant of the Church of St. Michael the Archangel.

She married Nicholas Pomilio on June 9, 1929. He died on March 6, 1992.

Mrs. Pomilio is survived by her daughter, Emily Adams of Hadley and Spring Hill, Fla., six grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:15 a.m. at the Betz Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Michael the Archangel. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Maplewood Manor in care of the funeral home.
 

Florence Hagadorn
January 6, 1997

Mrs. Florence E. Hagadorn, 88, of Sharon Springs, died Monday at the Sharon Springs Manor Adult Home.

Born in Dorloo, Mrs. Hagadorn lived most of her life there before moving to the adult home in 1984. 

Her husband, Harold Hagadorn Sr., died in 1971.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Prentice of East Worcester; five sons, Robert, Clarence and Keith Hagadorn all of Dorloo, Harold Hagadorn Jr. of Richmondville and Donald Hagadorn of Fort Plain; a sister, Mildred Olsen of Cobleskill; 23 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 68 Elm St., Cobleskill. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Spring burial will be in Seward Valley in Dorloo.

Clement Sherwood
January 6, 1997

Clement Standish Sherwood, 85, of Route 30A, Johnstown, died Monday at Wells Nursing Home after a long illness.

Born in Hartford, Conn., Mr. Sherwood attended Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., and received a degree in German.

He moved to Johnstown in 1939. 

Mr. Sherwood was a leather buyer for various area companies.

Also, from 1965 until his retirement in 1990, he owned and operated Tollgate Tractor Sales.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Allis Sherwood, whom he married in 1965; a daughter, Priscilla Positano of Iverness, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Sharon Jackson of Trophy Club, Texas; and six grandchildren.

A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Barter and Donnan Funeral Home, corner of Main and Melcher streets.

Calling hours are from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Harold Hanifin
January 6, 1997

Harold D. Hanifin, 90, of Batavia, died Monday at home.

Born in Medina, Mr. Hanifin worked for Endicott-Johnson Shoes for 35 years. He served as store manager and district manager. He later worked at Charles Men's Shop in Batavia for 10 years before retiring.

Mr. Hanifin was a member of St. Mary's Church in Batavia and was a former member of the Gloversville Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Alice Betty Hanifin; a son, Daniel J. Hanifin of Gloversville; two daughters, Betty Mattice of Hagaman and Mary Jo Docking of Florida; a brother, James Hanifin of Fulton; a sister, Katherine Kinnie of Fulton; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. this morning at the Gilmartin Funeral Home, 329 West Main St., and at 10 a.m. a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church.

There will be no calling hours.

Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
 

Harriet Jones
January 7, 1997

Harriet L. Jones, 85, of 137 Prospect Ave., Gloversville, died Tuesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after a long illness.

Born Oct. 13, 1911 in New Haven, CT., she was the daughter of Nelson Leroy and Emily Louisa Bruen Root. She resided in Gloversville since her marriage. She was a graduate of Pratt Institute of New York City.

Mrs. Jones was a member of Kingsboro Garden Club. She attended Christian Science Services.

She married Richard Jones on April 13, 1934. He died Oct. 31, 1992.

Survivors include two sons, Ernest R. Jones of Gloversville, and Nelson L. Jones of New Smryna Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Nancy DeForest of Amsterdam, Holland, Elaine J. Royer of Scotia, and Linda V. Kopek of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; three sisters, Marge Bain of Norwalk, CT., Shirley Reid of Stuart, Fla,; and Janice Gathman of Albeguerque, NM.; 10 grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours. Services will be conducted at the Walrath & Bushouer Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Spring burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
 

Marion Morrell
January 6, 1997

Marion S. Morrell, 81, of 140 Kingsboro Ave., Gloversville, died Monday at home where she was stricken. 

Born May 12, 1915 in Gloversville, she was the daughter of Clarence and Ruth Weber Stone. She was a lifelong Gloversville resident. Mrs. Morrell was a graduate of Gloversville High School and the former Gloversville Business School.

She assisted her husband with the F.R. Morrell Glove Co., in Gloversville.

Mrs. Morrell was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and its Semper Fidelis Class, and a former Sunday School Teacher. She was also a member of the Nathan Littauer Hospital Auxiliary.

She married Franklin R. Morrell on Oct. 3, 1942. He died March 13, 1983.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan R. Hanley of Troy; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one niece. She was pre-deceased by a son, John S. Morrell.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Walrath & Bushouer Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Edmund T. Freeborn III officiating. Burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville.
 

Mildred Leavitt
January 7, 1997

Mildred G. Leavitt, 93, of Getman Memorial Home, Gloversville, died Tuesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after a short illness.

Born Aug. 1, 1903 in Gloversville, she was a lifelong Gloversville resident. She graduated from Gloversville High School.

Mrs. Leavitt was a member of Fremont St. United Methodist Church and its Square Pegs Class; and a member of Cayadutta Chapter Order of the Eastern Star 166, and the Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens Club, all of Gloversville.

She married Harold Leavitt on June 27, 1923. He died July 13, 1968.

Survivors include a daughter, Lorraine Berner of Gloversville, two granddaughters, and three great-grandchildren. 

Calling hours are from 2 to 4 Saturday at the Walrath & Bushouer Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family with the Rev. Erik L. Smith officiating. Spring burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.

Ruth Black
January 7, 1997

Ruth Black, 90, of 18 Foster Road, Gloversville, died Tuesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, after a long illness.

Born Oct. 11, 1906 in Mayfield, she was the daughter of Percy and Rena Perkins Harvey. She was educated in Mayfield schools.

She was employed as forelady with the Perrella Glove Company, Gloversville, retiring in 1976.

Mrs. Black was a member of the Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens Club and its bowling league. She also bowled with the Bowling Belles and the Women's Merchants Leagues. Former Bumble Bee Card Club. First Baptist Church, Gloversville.

She married James R. Black Aug. 17, 1929. He died May 6, 1987.

Survivors include a sister, Hilda Blanchard of Gloversville; three nephews; several grand nephews; several grand nieces; and cousins. 

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Walrath & Bushouer Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville where services will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. Spring burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville.

John Dybas
January 7, 1997

John J. Dybas, 43, of Sandstone Drive, Burnt Hills, died late Tuesday at the Albany Medical Center after being stricken.

Born June 24, 1953 in Amsterdam, he was a son of Joseph A. and Wanda Jakszta Dybas. He was a graduate of St. Stanislaus School and Bishop Scully High School, Class of 1971. In 1982, he graduated from the Albany Medical Center School of Radiologic Technology. He was a licensed radiologic technologist. He was also certified in nuclear medical technology.

At the time of his death, he was manager of nuclear medicine at Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Mr. Dybas was a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Glenville. He was a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Society and the Sacred Heart Society of St. Stanislaus Church in Amsterdam. He was also a member of the Society of Nuclear Medicine.

He married the former Marian T. Ostrowski on Oct. 9, 1976.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his mother, Wanda Dybas of Amsterdam; aunts, uncles, a niece, a nephew and cousins.

Funeral servicess will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. 

Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Margaret Samek
January 8, 1997

Mrs. Margaret Samek, 79, formerly of South Perry Street, Johnstown, died Wednesday at Fulton County Infirmary after a long illness.

Born in Johnstown, Mrs. Samek attended school in Ephratah.

Mrs. Samek was a glovemaker for the former Crescendoe Glove Co.

She later worked in the kitchen at the Fulton County Infirmary.

She retired from the Tryon School, Perth, in the late 1970s.

Mrs. Samek attended the former St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

She was a member of the Fulton County Republican Club.

Survivors include a son, James Samek of Johnstown; two daughters, Margaret Diana of Gloversville and Shirley Staedeli of Cary, N.C.; two sisters, Dora Ford of Albany and Evelyn Haggerty of St. Johnsville; a brother, Harold Crouse of Johnstown; her companion, Nick Cooper of Johnstown; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Cremation will take place at Vale Crematory in Schenectady.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fulton County Infirmary.

Essie Leiser
January 8, 1997

Former Gloversville resident Mrs. Essie Markowitz Leiser, 88, died Wednesday at West Acres Nursing Home in Brockton, Mass., following a long illness.

Born in Brooklyn, Mrs. Leiser attended Brooklyn High School and received an associate's degree in business from Alpha Business School in New York City. She lived in Brooklyn until the mid-1950s then moved to Bridgeport, Conn., where she lived for two years before settling in Gloversville. She relocated to Brockton in 1974.

Mrs. Leiser was a member of Knesseth Israel Synagogue in Gloversville and Beth Emunah Synagogue in Brockton.

She married Max Leiser on Sept. 1, 1932. He died May 24, 1974.

Survivors include two daughters, Gail Rubin of Norcross, Ga., and Sari Kaplan of Whitman, Mass.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Knesseth Israel Synagogue, Fulton Street. Burial will be in Knesseth Israel Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gloversville Chapter of the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Robert Roche
January 7, 1997

Robert W. Roche, 84, of Morris Street, Amsterdam, died Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.

Mr. Roche was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and educated in Canada.

He came to the United States in 1968 and settled in Albany.

Mr. Roche was a meat cutter in Canada, and worked in the same capacity for 10 years for Grand Union in Albany, retiring in 1977.

He married Jennie Neadow Roche on April 26, 1969. She died in 1995.

Survivors include two sons, Robert S. Roche of Peterborough, Ont., and Douglas L. Roche of Kingston, Ont.; a daughter, Patricia Ann Schmidt of Las Vegas; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Glenmont.

Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the DeStefano Funeral Home.
