Miss Constance S. Holsinger, 46, of South Main Street, Northville, died Wednesday evening at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a long illness.

Born and educated in Indianapolis Inc., Miss Holsinger was a homemaker, and a resident of Northville for the past two years.

Previously, she lived in Georgia.

Survivors include her father, Kenneth Holsinger of Pensacola, Fla.; a son, Charles White of Pensacola, Fla.; three daughters, Stephanie A. Kinard of Danville, Ga., and Patti Jensen and Dawn White, both of Northville; a brother, Kenneth Holsinger Jr. of Connecticut; and five grandchildren.

A service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at the Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge St.

Burial will be in Danville, Ga.

Dorothy Gardenier
January 8, 1997

Mrs. Dorothy Dean Gardenier, 95, of Amsterdam, formerly of Sun City, Ariz., and Montvale, N.J., died Wednesday.

Mrs. Gardenier was the widow of Dr. Harold C. Gardenier.

She was a member of the Pascack Reformed Church, Park Ridge, N.J., and the Montvale Bridge and French clubs.

Mrs. Gardenier was also a member of the Ridge Wood Country Club, where she played golf and won several tournaments.

Survivors include four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Robert Spearing Funeral Home, 155 Kinderkamack Road, Park Ridge, N.J.

Burial will be in Pascack Reformed Church Cemetery, Park Ridge.

Eugene Cunningham
January 9, 1997

Eugene E. Cunningham, 65, of Whitmore Avenue, Johnstown, died Thursday at Albany Medical Center after a long illness.

Born in Long Island City, Mr. Cunningham was a graduate of Bayside High School.

He served in the Marine Corps from 1949 to 1952.

Mr. Cunningham worked for the Stanley Elevator Company in Long Island before moving to Johnstown in 1968. He then became the owner of Dunkin Donuts in Gloversville until 1986. He also owned The Manor House Restaurant. He retired in 1986.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Long Island and was a 25-year member of the Antlers Country Club in Fort Johnson. He volunteered his time fund-raising to help keep Bishop Burke and Mt. Carmel Catholic schools open.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Hatton Cunningham, whom he married June 9, 1956; two sons, Michael Cunningham of Milwaukee and John Cunningham of Branson, Mo.; three sisters, Delores Schnyak of Long Island, Margaret Hicks of Englishtown, N.J., and Mary Zotta of Cleveland, Ohio; and four grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at St. Luke's Church in Whitestone.

Calling hours will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, Main and Melcher streets, Johnstown. They will also be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hatton Funeral Home in Bayside.

Burial will take place in Long Island National Cemetery.

Felix Matuk
January 8, 1997

Felix A. Matuk, 70, of Maple Avenue, Hagaman, died Wednesday evening at his home following a long illness.

Born in Hagaman on May 14, 1926, he was a son of Joseph and Viola Drozinski Matuk. He was educated there and lived in the same house all his life.

Mr. Matuk was employed for many years as a leather worker for Wood & Hyde of Hagaman until retiring in 1987. During the Korean Conflict, he served with the U.S. Army as a tank mechanic.

Mr. Matuk was a communicant of St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church in Hagaman.

Survivors include his wife, the former Pauline Slater; two sons, Felix A. Matuk Jr. of Gloversville, and Daniel R. Matuk of Broadalbin; two daughters, Donna Bell and Christine Dufresne, both of Amsterdam; 10 grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Stephen's Church, with the Rev. Ronald Matulewicz officiating. Interment will take place in the spring in Hagaman Cemetery.

Calling hours are today from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam.

Jeanette Brenno
January 8, 1997

Jeanette M. Brenno, 69, of North Hornell, died Wednesday afternoon at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, following a long illness.

Born in Waddington, on May 16, 1927, she was a daughter of George and Grace Kellam Vice. She married Herbert T. Brenno on Jan. 28, 1946 in Ogdensburg.

Mrs. Brenno was a former resident of Ogdensburg and Pearl River and resided in Hornell from 1975 to 1979. Since 1979 she had resided in Amsterdam and Morristown prior to returning to Hornell in 1995.

She was employed for 38 years by New York Telephone, retiring in 1983 as manager of Operator Services.

Mrs. Brenno was a communicant of St. Ann's Church in Hornell and was an avid sewer and gardener.

Survivors, include her husband, are her four children, John Brenno of San Antonio, Texas; Michael (Jeanne) Brenno of Gloversville; Lori (Bob) Blades of North Hornell and Jeff (Mila) Brenno of Amsterdam; her brother, George Vice of Freehold; four sisters, Dorothy Nevins of New York City, Geraldine (Charles) Black of Gloucester, Va., Mildred (David) Dunn of San Antonio, Texas, and Margaret (Paul) Schubert of Summerville, S.C.; six grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Massena.

Margaret Seymour
January 9, 1997

Margaret Seymour, 75, of D&R Village, Clifton Park, died Thursday at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, after a short illness.

Mrs. Seymour was born in Tampa, Fla., and was a graduate of its Hillsborough High School.

She worked for the state department of Education and Taxation and Finance for about 15 years, retiring as a data processor in 1976.

Survivors include her husband, Lewis A. Seymour; two daughters, Nancy Emerick of Cohoes and Sandra Hugo of Amsterdam; a son, Robert Hedberg of Idaho; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9.

There are no calling hours.

Burial will be in Niskayuna Reformed Church Cemetery, Niskayuna.

Marion "Sis" Ireland
January 8, 1997

Mrs. Marion M. Ireland, 79, formerly of Johnstown, died Wednesday at Fulton County Infirmary after a long illness.

Born in Troy, Mrs. Ireland came to Johnstown as a child and was a 1936 graduate of Johnstown High School.

She was a bookkeeper for various firms including the former S.H. Ireland Chemical Company; Associated Grocers of Upstate New York; George Mosher CPA; and Floyd Hare CPA.

Most recently, Mrs. Ireland worked for Gates-Mills, retiring in 1973.

She was of the Protestant faith.

Mrs. Ireland was a member of the Windjammer Bowling League for more than 25 years. 

She is survived by a son, Robert S. Ireland Jr. of Peck Lake, Gloversville; a daughter, Susan I. Stock of Caroga Lake; a brother, Bertrand W. Morse of Fort Myers, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. John's Episcopal Church followed by a gathering at the church.

Cremation will take place at the Leatherstocking Crematory, Cherry Valley.

Spring burial will be in Johnstown Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Ehle Funeral Home.

Simon Saez
January 9, 1997

Simon Saez, 70, of Sharon Springs, died Thursday at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown after a short illness.

Born in Naranjito, Puerto Rico, Mr. Saez lived in the Bronx before moving to Sharon Springs in 1989.

He was a self-employed real estate agent in the metropolitan New York City area, retiring in 1989.

His wife, Mary Moll Saez died in 1990.

Survivors include a son, Fernando Saez of New York City, Rockland County; and two grandchildren.

The service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Route 20.

Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Spring burial will be in Sharon Cemetery.

Stephen Demarest
January 10, 1997

Stephen C. Demarest, 75, of Johnstown, died today at home after a long illness.

Mr. Demarest was born and educated in Broadalbin.

He was a self-employed truck driver, operating the Demarest Trucking Company until retiring in 1991.

He was of the the Catholic Faith.

Mr. Demarest was a member of the Bleecker Fish and Game Club and the Gloversville Moose Lodge.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Lee Demarest of Gloversville; a sister, Rose Spencer of Broadalbin; two brothers, Richard Demarest of Broadalbin and William Demarest of Johnstown; and a granddaughter.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St. A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
 

Susan Lasher
January 9, 1997

Susan Lasher, 90, of Montgomery Meadows, Amsterdam, formerly of Nelliston, died Thursday at the facility after a long illness.

Born in East Port Chester, on Sept. 30, 1906, she was the daughter of Paul Jakups and Sophie Gari. She was educated in Cobleskill.

Mrs. Lasher was a resident at Montgomery Meadows since 1994. She also lived at the Dawncrest Adult Home in Fultonville before entering the facility.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Stone Arabia, a member of the Fort Plain-Nelliston Senior Citizens and a member of the Nelliston Community Group.

She married Carlton H. Lasher on Nov. 6, 1926 in Fort Plain. He died May 9, 1974.

Mrs. Lasher is survived by one son, Richard C. Lasher Sr. of Nelliston; one sister, Marie Schuyler of New York City; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and three nieces.

Graveside services will be held in the spring at the Fort Plain Cemetery. The Rev. John Omans will officiate.

There will be no calling hours.

Christopher Damico
January 10, 1997

Christopher Damico, 80, of 1089 Carlisle Road, Canajoharie, died Friday at Albany Medical Center after a short illness.

He was born March 4, 1916, in New York City, the son of Vito and Angelina Rappa Damico. He moved to the Canajoharie area in 1916, where he since lived.

He attended Canajoharie High School and owned and operated Damico dairy farm on Carlisle Road for 63 years, retiring in 1993.

He was a member of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau, the Northeastern Milk Producers Association, a past member of the Loyal Order of the Moose 987 in Canajoharie, a past member of the Boiling Pot Eagles 3846, and was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Canajoharie.

He was married to Bernice Bassett Damico Sept. 3, 1949. She died Feb. 29, 1992.

Survivors include a son, Vito Damico of Canajoharie, two daughters, Angie Robinson of Amsterdam and Patricia Mabie of Canajoharie; six sisters, Margaret Vianese of Big Ben, Wis., Anna Stearns, Mary Thomassen, Angie Damico and Marion Vianese, all of Canajoharie, and Vitta Davis of Sprakers; eight grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie, followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Sts. Peter and Paul's Roman Catholic Church. 

Spring burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul's Cemetery, Canajoharie.

John McNerney Sr.
January 10, 1997

John P. McNerney Sr., 64, of Rosedale Way, Guilderland, died Friday morning at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, after being stricken.

He was born in Buffalo, Sept. 1, 1932, the son of Joseph and Marion Prell McNerney. He came to this area in 1981 from West Seneca.

Mr. McNerney was educated at St. Bridgettes Parochial School and was a graduate of Bishop Timon Catholic High School in Buffalo. He also was a graduate of the Buffalo Police Academy.

He was a police officer for many years, retiring in 1977. He later was a director for the New York State Lottery, retiring in 1983. He was the former criminal justice teacher for Buffalo area colleges.

Mr. McNerney was a member of the St. Madeline & Sophie Roman Catholic Church in Guilderland. He was a member of the Police Benevolent Association in Buffalo and also a life member of the International Police Association.

He was a Democratic Committeeman in the Town of Guilderland, district 21. He was inaugurated Jan. 1 as chairman of the Guilderland Planning Board. He also was president of the Rosedale Homeowners Association.

His wife, Rose M. Marchello McNerney, whom he married Sept. 2, 1966, survives.

Other survivors include his mother, Marion Prell of Buffalo; three sons, Joseph P. McNerney and Richard C. McNerney, both of Baltimore, and John P. McNerney Jr. of Guilderland; three daughters, Margaret Sinkand of Baltimore, Mary Rose Helion and Ann-Marie Kirwan, both of Rotterdam; two brothers, Charles McNerney of Greely, Colo., and Thomas O'Connell of Silvercreek; three sisters, Mary Jane Norris of Buffalo, Margaret Walder of Orchard Park and Donna Zannet of Angola; five grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Guilderland.

Funeral services are 9 a.m. Tuesday at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Guilderland, with the Rev. Patrick Butler officiating.

Entombment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the American Heart Association.
