Born July 13, 1914 in Bleecker, she was the daughter of Frank D. and
Bertha Ernst Peters. She was a graduate of Gloversville High School and
Albany Business School.
Mrs. Petraske was employed at the former Trust Co. of Fulton County,
J.C. Bleyl Co., and for 28 years in the business office as internal auditor
and payroll clerk with the Gloversville Enlarged School District.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gloversville
where she had served on the administrative board and also as church financial
secretary for many years. The Gloversville Business and Professional Women's
Association; the Fulton County Museum, and the Retired Teachers Association.
She married Frederic E. Petraske on Oct. 3, 1936. He died July 19, 1993.
Survivors include a sister, June P. Wiley of Johnstown, a brother, Donald
F. Peters of Gloversville, three nephews, three grand-nephews and several
cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the Walrath
& Bushouer Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, with the
Rev. Richard Sears officiating. Spring interment will be at Prospect Hill
Cemetery, Gloversville.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral
home.

Florence Foster
February 3, 1997
Born Nov. 10, 1920 in Oswego, she was the daughter of William and Edna
Tullar Godden. Mrs. Foster was educated in the Amsterdam school system.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Foster was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church.
Her husband, Russell W. Foster, whom she married Sept. 24, 1941, died
in 1993.
Surviving are two sons, William Foster of Fort Hunter, and Donald Foster
of North Carolina; four sisters, Barbara Hayes, Helena Hartig, and Edna
Bend all of Amsterdam, and Harriet Thackrah of Sprakers; five grandchildren;
one great-grandchild, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Riley
Mortuary Inc., 110 Division St., Amsterdam, with the Rev. Dan J. Wheeler,
pastor of the United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in
Green Hill Cemetery, Amsterdam.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral
home.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Kenneth La Mere
February 2, 1997
Born Nov. 13, 1926 in Poultney, Vt., he was the son of Walter and Lucy
Parker Le Mere. He resided in Hudson Falls for many years, in Philmont
from 1960 until 1975, when he moved to Amsterdam.
Mr. La Mere was educated in Hudson Falls schools. He served in the Navy
during World War II, Signalman First Class, serving in the Philippines.
He was employed as a foreman for several knitting mills, last for 19
years with the Adirondack Knitting Co. in Amsterdam, retiring in 1994.
Mr. La Mere was a member of St. John the Baptist Church of Amsterdam,
and the New Country Fan Club of Hudson Falls.
He married Betty Tripp on April 14, 1951. She died Feb. 5, 1988.
Survivors include two sons, Neil W. La Mere of Gloversville and Steven
M. La Mere of Amsterdam; two daughters, Deborah J. Robinson of Hudson Falls,
and Lori L. LaMere of Gloversville; two sisters, Evelyn Brown of Hudson
Falls, and Margaret Maynard of Hudson Falls; three grandchildren, and several
nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A prayer service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Walrath
& Bushouer Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, with the
Rev. Stan Swiezowski, pastor of St. John the Baptist, officiating. Spring
burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, in Hudson Falls.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral
home.

Antonina "Edna" Padowicz
February 3, 1997
Born Aug. 27, 1897 in Glogow, Poland she was the daughter of Gregory
and Mary Kubas Pikor. She came to this area at the age of 13.
Mrs. Padowicz was employed by Mohasco Industries.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church and a former member of the
Ladies Rosary Society.
She married Walenty Padowicz on May 2, 1916. He died Aug. 9, 1965.
Survivors include two sons, Adolf Padowicz of Schenectady, and Bronislaus
Padowicz of Amsterdam; three daughters, Olga Bochniewicz of Amsterdam,
Sadie Rourke of Ballston Spa, and Isabel Twardzik of Bradenton, Fla.; nine
grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and
nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Amsterdam
Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place, followed at 9:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian
Burial at St. Stanislaus Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 8 to 9 a.m. prior to the service.

or to St. Stanislaus Church.
Dorothy Mercer
February 2, 1997
Mrs. Mercer was born in Gloversville and was a graduate of its schools.
She lived in St. Johnsville for several years before returning to Gloversville.
Mrs. Mercer was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church.
She was a member of the Better Breathers Club of Fulton County and a
volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program.
Her husband, Raymond J. Mercer, whom she married in 1967, died in 1974.
Survivors include two brothers, Gordon Seeley of Stratford and Bernard
Seeley of St. Johnsville; two sisters, Idella Benson of Little Falls and
Lucille Bowers of St. Johnsville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Hollenbeck
Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave. Spring burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 this afternoon and 7 to 9 tonight
at the funeral home.

Pauline Steinmann
February 3, 1997
Born and educated in Slovakia, Mrs. Steinmann moved to New York City,
and then to Morristown, N.J., in 1965. Mrs. Steinmann came to this area
in 1988 to live with her son.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Her husband, William Steinmann, whom she married in 1926, died in 1967.
Survivors include her son, Ernest Steinmann of Gloversville; three grandchildren;
and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First
Presbyterian Church, 16 W. Fulton St. Spring burial will be in Prospect
Hill Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 this afternoon and 7 to 9 tonight at the
Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave.

Charles Myers
February 3, 1997
Born Aug. 7, 1917 in Scotia, he was the son of Charles and Annabelle
Martin Myers. He attended Scotia schools.
Mr. Myers was the deputy police chief in the Village of Scotia for many
years until his retirement in 1974. He then moved to Wells, until moving
to Amsterdam 10 years ago.
He was a communicant of St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Parish and a member
of the Northeastern Chiefs of Police Society.
He married the former Genevieve E. Pacunas on Sept. 2, 1940.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, David Myers of
Hayes, Va., and Edmund Myers of Scotia; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Rossi
Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at
10 a.m. at the Church of St. John the Baptist, Vanderveer Street. The Rev.
Joseph J. Grabys will officiate. Interment is in St. Casimir's Cemetery.
A calling hour will begin at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Marion Steuer
February 3, 1997
Born in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Elroy and Mary Perkins Palmer.
She was a graduate of Amsterdam High School.
She was first employed as a secretary for Bigelow Sanford Carpet Mills,
and lastly, a secretary for the former New York State Veterinarian Agency
in Amsterdam.
Mrs. Steuer lived in Lantana, Fla.; from 1971 until she returned to
Amsterdam in 1989.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She was married to Ernest Steuer. He died Aug. 11, 1986.
Mrs. Steuer is survived by nieces, nephews, and great -nieces and great-
nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Robert Steuer.
There will be no calling hours. Services will be announced.
Arrangements are by the Ehle Funeral Home, 15 N.William St.., Johnstown.
Interment is at the Leatherstocking Crematory, Cherry Valley.
Kathleen Andrews
February 1, 1997
Born Jan. 11, 1927, she was the daughter of William Kelly and Mary Riddell
Kelly Harbour. She was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam.
She was an operator for New York Telephone Co. and was later a professional
organ player at The Barnes Hotel Lounge. Subsequently, she was a portrait
photographer and manager of Elmer Epner Photography in Amsterdam. She was
also a part-time manager and vault keeper at Off-Track Betting in Amsterdam.
Survivors include her husband, William Andrews; a son, Daniel Andrews
of Amsterdam; a brother, Charles Harbour of Amsterdam; a sister, Carol
Harbour Barnes of Albany; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren,
and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:15 a.m. Thursday at the Betz
Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, and at 9 a.m. a Mass of Christian
Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Burial will
be in Fairview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral
home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association
or American Diabetes Association.
Alice Holloway
Alice G. Holloway, 93, formerly of Early Woodland Apartments, Cobleskill,
died Sunday at the Eden Park Nursing Home.
Mrs. Holloway was born in Worcester and attended a one-room schoolhouse
there. Later, she taught school in the Worcester area.
For most of her life, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Holloway resided in the Early Woodland Apartments from 1980 to
1995. Prior to that, she lived in Howes Cave for many years and wintered
in Tampa, Fla.
Many years ago, she was a waitress at the former White Restaurant on
Division Street. During World War II, Mrs. Holloway was a crane operator
at the General Electric Company, Schenectady.
She was a member of the former Community Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Holloway
was a member of the Barnerville United Methodist Church; the Women's Christian
Temperance Union; and the Ruskin United Methodist Church in Ruskin, Fla.
Her husband, Earl L. Holloway, whom she married in 1924, died in 1980.
Survivors include two sons, Roger E. Holloway of Central Bridge and
Frank J. Holloway of Advance, Calif.; a sister, Myrtle Putman of Green
Island; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Ruskin Memorial
Park, Ruskin, Fla.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Barnerville United Methodist
Church, Box 274, Central Bridge 12035.

Dr. John Kiselis
Dr. John P. Kiselis, 87, of Quincy, Ill., a native of Amsterdam, died
Monday morning at the Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Born in Amsterdam Sept. 28, 1909, he was a son of Anthony and Edna Kiselis
and a graduate of the University of Arkansas and Loyola University-Stritch
School of Medicine. He was a pathologist at St. Mary's Hospital in Quincy
and West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, Ill.
Dr. Kiselis was a member of the American Medical Association, Illinois
and Adams County Medical Society, College of American Pathologists, Illinois
Pathological Society, American & Illinois Societies of Blood Banks.
While in Amsterdam, he was a communicant of St. Casimir's Roman Catholic
Parish and more recently, of St. Peter's Church in Quincy.
Survivors include his wife, Helen D. Kiselis, whom he married Oct. 20,
1937; two sons, John A. Kiselis of San Antonio, Texas, and Mark M. Kiselis
of Dallas; three daughters, Jeanne K. McCurry of Chicago, Rita K. Bruns
of St. Louis, and Mary K. Syc of Lake Forest, Ill.; 15 grandchildren and
a nephew.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at St. Ann's Chapel in St. Casimir's
Cemetery. Father Joseph J. Grabys will officiate. Interment will follow
in the cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Casimir's Parish, 260 E. Main
St.

Place, Amsterdam.
Lois Bachman
Lois Bachman, 71, of Sacandaga Road, Galway, died Tuesday at Albany
Medical Center after being stricken at home.
Born in Hawley, Pa., Mrs. Bachman moved to the Galway area in 1979.
She was of the Presbyterian faith.
Mrs. Bachman was a member of the Lioness Club of Galway, Order of the
Eastern Star of Hawley, Pa., and the Galway Senior Citizens.
She was the widower of Wilmer "Cy" Backman.
Survivors include her mother, Lillian Roloson Plum of Hawley; two daughters,
Kathryn L. Burnett and Patricia A. Bartleson, both of Hawley; her companion,
Neal J. McCane of Galway; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
The service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Richard J. Ryan
Funeral Home, Sacandaga Road, Galway.
Calling hours are 7 p.m. until the service, at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Green Gates Cemetery, Hawley.

Walter Kopper
Private services will be held for Walter A. Kopper, 86, of Western Avenue,
West Charlton, who died Sunday at home after a short illness.
Born in Niskayuna, Mr. Kopper was a lifelong area resident.
He worked for the General Electric Company for 43 years, beginning at
Building 37 and retiring as a supervisor from the Research and Development
Laboratory in Niskayuna.
Mr. Kopper was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Adele Dreves Kopper; a daughter,
Gail Blackmore of Surrey, England; and two grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours.
Burial will take place in Parkview Cemetery in Schenectady.
Arrangements are by Baxter Funeral Home, Schenectady.
Joyce Wallin
H. Joyce Barkley Wallin of Greene Mountain Lake died Monday at the University
of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va.
Born in Amsterdam Sept. 6, 1923, she was the daughter of Danforth C.
Barkley and Mary Maker Barkley. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Institute,
and Miss Bennett's in Springfield, Mass.
Mrs. Wallin was a former resident of Springfield, Mo.; Scotia; Charlotte,
N.C.; Endicott; Chesapeake, Va.; and Phoenix.
She was a member of the American Red Cross, St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary,
Oais Charities, Girl Scouts, Head Start and the United Way.
She was a member of Shepherd of The Hills Catholic Church in Quinque,
Va.
Mrs. Wallin is survived by her husband, Joseph L. Wallin of Greene Mountain
Lake, Stanardsville, Va.; a daughter, Margaret Wallin Dowling; a daughter,
Debra Wallin LaMori of Charlottesville; a son, Jay B. Wallin of Williamsburg,
Va., a son, Timothy J. Wallin of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Eleanor Barkley
Land of Amsterdam; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Ryan Funeral Chapel,
Quinque.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Francis Phillips Sr.
Francis J. Phillips Sr., 58, of Reed Street, Canajoharie, died suddenly
Monday at his home.
Born in Herkimer Nov. 21, 1938, he was the son of Stanley Phillips and
Elizabeth Sands. He was educated in the Herkimer schools.
Mr. Phillips was employed at Life Savers and then at Conusa and at the
time of his death, he was employed as a foreman at Richardson Brands in
Canajoharie.
He lived in Canajoharie for the last 27 years.
Mr. Phillips was of the Methodist faith.
He married Doris Borst Dec. 6, 1969, in Freysbush.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Francis J. Phillips Jr., of Frederick,
Md.; and Robert A. Phillips of Canajoharie; two brothers, Stanley Phillips
of Herkimer and William Phillips of Rome; one grandson; and several nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Houghtaling
& Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie.
The Rev. Kenneth Dingman will officiate.
Spring burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.

Zofia Zaliskiewicz
Zofia Zaliskiewicz, 76, of Chesapeake, Va., died Monday. She resided
in Amsterdam until 1980 and moved to Chesapeake, where she resided until
the present time.
She was the widow of Michael Zaliskiewicz.
She is survived by her son, John Zaliskiewicz of Chesapeake, Va.; her
daughter, Christine Cooley; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Hollomon-Brown
Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, Norfolk, Va.
Emily Malacynski
Emily H. Malacynski, 80, of Broadalbin, died Tuesday evening at the
Eden Park Nursing Home in Albany.

Winifred Mockry
Winifred V. Ratajczak Mockry, 92, of Woodrow Road, died this morning
at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness.
