Mrs. Agnes E. Harris, 73, of Dunedin, Fla., died Saturday at the Morton Plant Hospital.

Born in Providence, R.I., Mrs. Harris lived in Fultonville for many years.

She was a former member of the Antlers Country Club and the Ladies Parliamentary Club of Fultonville until she moved to Dunedin, Fla., in 1975.

Survivors include a son, Fred William Harris III; two daughters, Nancy Harris Emmanuel of Palm Harbor, Fla.; and Kim Lizbeth Harris of Altamont; and a grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Fund.

Jeanette Parlapiano
February 4, 1997

Mrs. Jeanette Parlapiano, 73, of Bellflower, Calif., died Feb. 4 at her home. 

Born Sept. 10, 1923 in Sharon Springs, she was the daughter of Ralph and Inez Countryman Karker. She was a graduate of Sharon Springs High School.

Mrs. Parlapiano moved to Amsterdam for several years and was employed by the former Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Mills. She bowled in various leagues while living in Amsterdam. Mrs. Parlapiano moved to California 40 years ago where she had since resided. 

She was of the Lutheran faith.

Survivors include two sons, Darrel Parlapiano of Ontario, Calif., and David Parlapiano of Torrance, Calif.; a daughter, Dale Hoff of Oregon; three sisters, Dorothy Corey of Perth, Irma Howard of Saratoga, and Myrna Wilday of Sharon Springs; a brother, Francis Karker of Fort Pierce, Fla.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A gradeside funeral service will be conducted at the convenience of the family in the spring at Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam.

Richard Parks
February 9, 1997

Richard E. Parks, 34, of Elmer Avenue, Schenectady, died Sunday at St. Clare's Hospital after a short illness.

Born in Niskayuna, Mr. Parks was a lifelong area resident and graduate of Scotia-Glenville High School. He attended the State University of New York College at Cobleskill.

Mr. Parks was a maintenance worker for a local contractor for seven years.

Survivors include four sisters, Darlene Bigelow of Esperance, Melissa Kinnally and Renee Parks, both of Scotia, and Noalle Parks of Schenectady.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Reynolds Street at Glen Avenue, Scotia. Burial will take place in Park Cemetery at a later date.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church memorial fund or the Diabetes Association in Albany.

Rosario Facci
February 10, 1997

Rossario Facci, of Schenectady, died Monday at Ellis Hospital after a long illness.

Mr. Facci was born in Calabria, Italy, and was a resident of Schenectady for more than 65 years.

He was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy.

Mr. Facci was an electrical engineer and worked for General Electric and ESPEY-Saratoga Industries, until he retired in 1973.

He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church.

He was married to Rosaria Facci for 44 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, John Facci of Webster, Mario R. Facci of Charlton and Giulio P. Facci of Schenectady; his stepmother, Josephine Facci of Schenectady; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Leukemia Society of America.
 

Esther Miller
February 11, 1997

Mrs. Esther Miller, 74, of Route 67, Amsterdam, died Tuesday at her home.

Born April 13, 1922 in Gloversville, she was the daughter of Morris and Anna Sack Myzal. She was a graduate of Gloversville High School. 

Mrs. Miller was a member of the Congregation Sons of Israel Synogogue. She was also a member of Hadassah and the Daughters of Jacob. 

She married William Miller on June 17, 1951. He died June 30, 1974. 

Survivors include three sons, Steven Miller of Galway, Jerrold Miller of Virginia Beach, Va., and James Miller of Clifton Park; two daughters, Reina Benoit of Stoughton, Mass., and Deena Miller of Amsterdam; a brother, Mitchell Myzal of Gloversville; 13 grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at the Congregation Sons of Israel Synogogue, 355 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, with the Rabbi Harry Levin officiating. Interment is in Congregation Sons of Israel Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Sons of Israel Synogogue and the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

John "Jack" Kane
February 10, 1997

Canajoharie fire chief John Kane, 64, of Otsego Street, Canajoharie, died Monday evening at his home following a long illness.

Born Jan. 2, 1933 in Amsterdam, he was the son of John P. and Lillian Suits Kane, and resided in the Canajoharie area all of his life.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Kane was employed as a systems technician for 28 years by Honeywell Inc., of Albany, retiring in 1994.

He was the current chief of the Canajoharie Volunteer Fire Department, of which he was a member for the past 37 years. He also served on the Montgomery County Fire Advisory Board for a number of years. He was also a member of the Smith-Schults Post 222 of the American Legion in Canajoharie, the Canajoharie-Fort Plain Elks Lodge No. 2621, and the Canajoharie Country Club.

Mr. Kane was of the Roman Catholic faith.

He married the former Yvonne Geweye on Aug. 18, 1956. She died Jan. 3, 1995.

Survivors include five sons, John Kane of Hinsdale, Ill., Kevin Kane and Michael Kane, both of Palatine Bridge, and James Kane and Daniel Kane, both of Canajoharie; a daughter, Kathleen Dopp of Palatine Bridge; a sister, Mary Frances Kane of Palatine Bridge; seven grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, St. Johnsville. The interment will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Canajoharie, in the spring. 

Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie.

Edward Roddy
February 11, 1997

Edward R. Roddy, 88, of Madison Avenue, Johnstown, died Tuesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a short illness.

Born and educated in Johnstown, Mr. Roddy served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart.

Mr. Roddy was a glove cutter for various area glove companies. He was later a custodian for the Johnstown school system, retiring in 1976 as head custodian.

Mr. Roddy was a 64-year member of the Johnstown Eagles Aerie.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Church.

He married the former Elizabeth Burr on June 17, 1936.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, June M. Manfredi of Hyde Park; two sons, James E. Roddy of Johnstown and John J. Roddy of Rotterdam Junction; two sisters, Elizabeth Condon of Albany and Catherine Moynehan of Johnstown; a brother, Clarence Roddy of Pinehurst, N.C.; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher St. Spring burial will take place in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Mrs. Sophie Kaczor Collins, 82, of Schuyler Street, Schenectady, died Tuesday at home after a short illness.

Mrs. Collins was a lifelong city resident.

She was a communicant of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church.

She was married to Albert R. Collins for 56 years.

In addition to her husband, survivors include five daughters, Barbara Czech of Delanson, Margaret Williams of Custer, S.D., Alberta Collins of Northbridge, Mass., Grace Collins of Schenectady and Cecilia Morelli of Largo, Fla.; two sons, Arthur Collins of Schenectady and Paul Collins of Valdosta, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Friday at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Luke's Church. Burial will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.

February 11, 1997

Mrs. Valera Ferguson Ireland, 81, of Frank Street, Schenectady, died Tuesday at Ellis Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Brooklyn, Mrs. Ireland lived at her current address for the past 50 years.

She was a licensed practical nurse for Dr. Karp for 25 years, retiring in 1980. Previously, she worked for the American Locomotive Co.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence E. Ireland; a daughter, Lynn Nardi of Charlton; a son, Stuart G. Ferguson of Cohoes; a brother, Arthur Proser of Savannah, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road at Route 146A, Ballston Lake. Burial will be in Ballston Village Cemetery, Ballston Spa.

John Palmer
February 10, 1997

John E. Palmer, 82, of Middle Fort Road, Middleburgh, died Monday at Valley Lutheran Hospital, Mesa, Ariz., after a short illness.

Born in Richmondville, Mr. Palmer was a graduate of the former Renouard Embalming School, New York City.

He was a former partner and owner of the Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home.

Mr. Palmer was a charter member of the Middleburgh Rotary Club and the Middleburgh Rod and GunClub; and a 50-year member of the Schoharie Valley Lodge 491 of the Free and Accepted Masons.

He served two terms on the Middleburgh Central School District Board of Education and was the first treasurer of the area BOCES.

Mr. Palmer was the widower of Barbara Moot Palmer, who died in 1982.

Survivors include his wife, Araxi Dutton Palmer; two daughters, Jane P. McPhee of Pattersonville and Chris Polak of Middleburgh; a son, John Palmer of Greensboro, S.C.; two granddaughters; two grandsons; two great-grandsons; a stepdaughter, Joyce Cooper of Punxsutawney, Pa.; and three step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at a later date and time to be announced by the Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home.

Sarah Tallmadge
February 10, 1997

Mrs. Sarah M. Tallmadge, 88, of Route 20, Sloansville, died Monday at the Ellis Nursing Home in Schenectady after a long illness.

Born in West Berne, Mrs. Tallmadge lived in Sloansville since 1932 and was educated at the Sloansville School House.

She was a homemaker and a volunteer with the former Community Hospital Auxiliary in Cobleskill.

She married Ralph W. Tallmadge on Sept. 8, 1924. He died in 1995.

Survivors include a daughter, Alice M. Stalker of Central Bridge; three brothers, Leland "Whitey" Hayes of Sloansville, Stanley Hayes of Delanson and Ernest Hayes of Ocala, Fla.; three sisters, Elizabeth Sperber of Corona Delmar, Calif., Mary Florio of Largo, Fla., and Katherine Young of Esperance; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral and burial services will be conducted at 11a.m. Friday at the Langan Funeral Home, 21 N. Main St., Central Bridge. Spring burial will be in Sloansville Valley Cemetery.

A calling hour will precede the service at the funeral home.

Laura Douglass
February 12, 1997

Mrs. Laura C. Douglass, 95, a resident of the Montgomery Meadows in Amsterdam, died Wednesday at the Mount Loretto Nursing Home, where she had been a patient for several weeks.

Born Oct. 25, 1901 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Bushouer Swart. She attended local schools and was a resident of Mill Point from 1936 until 1985. She moved to the Stratton Apartments in Amsterdam in 1985 and lived there until 1990.

Mrs. Douglass was a homemaker and was a member of the Port Jackson Senior Citizens.

She was a member of the Glen Reformed Church.

She married Samuel W. Douglass on Oct. 29, 1924. He died April 3, 1975. She was also predeceased by a son, Thomas E. Douglass, in 1995.

Survivors include four sons, Samuel R. Douglass of Amsterdam, James S. Douglass of Mill Point, Richard J. Douglass of Richmondville and David A. Douglass of Boonville; a daughter, Ruth E. Burke of Fultonville; a brother, Clarence Swart of Amsterdam; 24 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, with the Rev. Karen Patterson officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill.

John Bien
February 12, 1997

Former Montgomery County Supervisor John P. Bien, 80, of Clizbe Avenue, Amsterdam, died Wednesday at St. Mary's hospital.

Born Oct. 3, 1916 in Little Falls, he was the son of John and Josephine Wnuk Bien. He lived in Little Falls until moving to Gloversville in 1933. He moved to Amsterdam in 1953 and was a city resident since that time. He was educated in Little Falls schools and was also a graduate of the Roosevelt Aviation School on Long Island.

Mr. Bien served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a flight mechanic and engineer achieving the rank of technical sergeant.

For more than 30 years, he was employed as a crane and elevator repairman by the General Electric Co. in Schenectady, retiring in 1979. He was also a shop steward for IUE Local 301.

He was a member of the Church of St. John the Baptist, where he served on the Parish Council, as a Eucharistic minister and Lector. He was also a member of the St. John's Seniors, serving as treasurer.

Mr. Bien was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Amsterdam Council 209, and was a past Grand Knight. He was also a member of the Msgr. William A. Browne 4th Degree and the Color Corps. He held many offices in the organization, including past District Deputy, Chairman of the Home Association and several others. In addition, Mr. Bien was a past member of several local fraternal organizations.

He married Winifred Koryzma Bien on Nov. 21, 1943.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Thomas J. Bien of Saratoga Springs and Richard M. Bien of North Reading, Mass.; two sisters, Helen Insognia of Gloversville and Stella Crocetta of South Daytona Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Church of St. John the Baptist. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Mrs. Duane Ellen Seeley
February 11, 1997

Mrs. Duane Ellen Seeley, 62, of 142 Ostrum Road, Ephratah, died Tuesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a long illness.

Born Oct. 6, 1934 in Tuscumbia, Ala., she was the daughter of Charles B. and Evelyn Hina Carson. She was a graduate of Tuscumbia High School and lived in Alabama and Nebraska before moving to Ephratah 20 years ago.

She was employed as a sewer at the Johnstown Knitting Mill Co. until retiring 11 years ago because of disability.

Mrs. Seeley attended the Ephratah Reformed Church.

Survivors include a son, Edward C. Seeley of Ephratah, a sister, Mildred Lentz of Florence, Ala.; a brother, Joseph Carson of Sanford, N.C.; and two nephews, a niece and several cousins.

A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday at the Walrath & Bushour Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. Cremation will be at Parkview Crematory, Schenectady.

There will be no calling hours.

Raymond Maloney
February 12, 1997

Raymond John Maloney, 72, of 133 Sixth Ave., Gloversville, died Wednesday at his home after a long illness.

Born Dec. 26, 1924 in Gloversville, he was the son of Raymond Stephen and Gertrude L. Schrum Maloney. He was a Gloversville resident for most of his life, living in Guilderland for 15 years before returning to Gloversville in 1983. He was a 1942 graduate of Gloversville High School and attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

He was employed for 13 years as a partner in Maloney and Chetwynd Plumbing and Heating in Gloversville, for 25 years at the state Department of Labor's Bureau of Public Works. 

Mr. Maloney was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of the North Main Street United Methodist Church of Gloversville.

Mr. Maloney was a member of the Fulton County Historical Society; a 45-year member of the Gloversville Masonic Lodge No. 429; vice president of the former New York State Parents of Hearing Impaired Children. At the time of his death, he was president of the Board of Directors at the Fern Dale Cemetery Association of Johnstown and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Fulton County Historical Society.

He married Ruth V. VanDellon on Dec. 12, 1949.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Timothy J. Maloney of Rochester; a daughter, Susan J. Doak of Gloversville; three grandchildren and several cousins.

A private memorial service will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Parkview Crematory, Schenectady.

There will be no calling hours.

Edna Pitcher
February 12, 1997

Mrs. Edna M. Pitcher, 82, of Route 163, Fort Plain, died Wednesday at her home following a long illness.

Born Nov. 20, 1914 in Springfield, she was the daughter of Addison and Zora Eckler Van Alstine. She was a graduate of East Springfield High School and was a lifelong are resident.

Mrs. Pitcher was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Methodist faith.

She married Cecil C. Pitcher on April 11, 1936, in East Springfield. He died Jan. 14, 1980.

Survivors include a son, Gordon C. Pitcher of Canajoharie; a sister, Marjorie Richards of East Springfield; two grandchildren, Sandy Pitcher and Rodney Pitcher, both of Canajoharie and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain. Burial will be in Freysbush Cemetery in the spring.

Ophelia Quackenbush
February 12, 1997

Mrs. Ophelia Quackenbush, 98, formerly of Forest Hill Towers, Gloversville, died Wednesday at the Fulton County Infirmary in Johnstown after a long illness.

Born and educated in Hope Falls, she lived most of her life in Gloversville.

She was a glovemaker at several local glove companies for more than 30 years before her retirement.

She was a member of the Fremont Street United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Quackenbush was also a member of the Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens Center, the 55 Plus Senior Citizens and the Rebekah Lodge.

She married Hiram Pete Quackenbush on March 13, 1920. He died in 1984.

Survivors include a son, Everett Ed Quackenbush of Gloversville; a brother, Lloyd Burgess of Gloversville; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville. Burial will be in Fern Dale Cemetery.
