Edith C. Snyder, 85, formerly of 69 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, died Thursday
at Montgomery Meadows.
Born Sept. 2, 1911, in Rifton, she was the daughter of Harvey and Viola
Tappan Hollister.
She was a manager for Brier's Leather in Amsterdam for many years. Mrs.
Snyder was a member of the Hagaman Senior Citizens.
Her husband, Frank Snyder, died in 1979.
Survivors include her sister, Mildred Surento of Amsterdam; and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Monday at the Richard J. Ryan Funeral Home,
Sacandaga Road, (Route 147), Galway.
Calling hours are noon to 2 p.m. on Monday prior to the service.
Spring interment will take place in Greenhill Cemetery, Amsterdam.

Vencenza Giovannone
Vincenza "Jennie" Iacovangelo Giovannone, 97, of the St. Johnsville
Nursing Home, formerly of Division Street, Fort Plain, died Friday at the
nursing home after a long illness.
Born Feb. 26, 1899 in Rodi Gargano, Italy, she was the daughter of Antonio
Iacovangelo and Michelina DeMeo. She was educated in Italy and the United
States after she arrived in 1911.
Mrs. Giovannone was employed as a machine operator at the Luxuray Knitting
Mill in Fort Plain for 50 years before retiring in 1965. She also worked
part-time at the former Freebold Nursing Home in Fort Plain. She also performed
private duty home care.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Fort Plain. She was
a member of the Fort Plain-Nelliston Senior Citizens and the Altar Rosary
Society.
Survivors include a son, Emerson Giovannone of Palatine Bridge; three
daughters, Gilda Mucha of Hendersonville, N.C., Gloria Friello of Danbury,
Conn., and Doris Dutcher of Fort Plain; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren;
and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Giovannone was predeceased by two stepsons, Anselmo Giovannone
and John Giovannone.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial mass will be conducted 2 p.m. March 7 at St. James Catholic
Church, Fort Plain, with the Rev. Kenneth Swain officiating.
Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery in the spring.

Florence Michalski
Florence V. Michalski, 75, of Amsterdam, died Friday at Amsterdam Memorial
Hospital.
Born Feb. 22, 1921 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Joseph and
Nellie Barszcz Bik. She was educated in local schools and was a 1937 graduate
of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School.
Mrs. Michalski worked at one time for Mohasco Industries. Later, she
was a homemaker. She then was employed by St. Mary's Hospital as a keypunch
operator until retiring in February 1983.
She was a member of the Church of St. John the Baptist.
Her husband, Joseph M. Michalski, whom she married May 17, 1953, died
Dec. 31, 1991.
Survivors include two sons, David Michalski of Galway and Robert Michalski
of Amsterdam; a sister, Ernestine Krawczyk of Amsterdam; two aunts, Bernice
Barszcz and Adeline Barszcz, both of Amsterdam; and several nieces, nephews
and cousins.
She was predeceased by a brother, Leonard Bik, who died in 1983.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Guzielek-Pomykaj
Funeral Home, 13 Belmont Place, Amsterdam.
Services will be conducted 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Joseph Foltman
Mr. Joseph Foltman, 84, of San Pedro, Calif, formerly of Amsterdam,
died Friday.
Born Feb. 26, 1912 in Amsterdam, he was a son of Bronislaus and Anna
Raczkowaka Foltman.
Mr. Foltman served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Segeant Machinist and
was discharged in 1946.
He was employed as a civil servant for the federal government for 35
years before retiring in 1979.
Survivors include three sons, Jeff Foltman of San Pedro, Calif., Paul
Foltman of Jacksonville, Ore., and Steve Foltman of Olympia, Wash.; three
sisters, Cecelia Wiatrowski of Angola, Marion Wasileski of Auburn, and
Harriet Thackrah of Amsterdam; five brothers, Sylvester Foltman of Amsterdam,
Dennis Foltman of Escanaba, Mich. and Arizona, William Foltman of Schenectady,
Barney Foltman of Rye, and Anthony Foltman of Bradenton, Fla.; and several
nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a sister, Helen Foltman and a brother, Felecian
Foltman.
There will be a funeral service at Mary Star of the Sea Church in San
Pedro, Calif. A private, graveside service will be conducted at the convenience
of the family at St. John's Cemetery, Amsterdam.
Arrangements are by the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam.
Gladys Martin
Gladys M. Martin, 95, of Amsterdam, died Saturday evening at Montgomery
Meadows where she lived since 1988.
Born in Amsterdam Feb. 10, 1902, she was the daughter of Lyle and William
Waite Burtt.
Mrs. Martin was educated in the Amsterdam school system and was employed
by Johnstown Knitting Mills for more than 40 years until her retirement
in 1973.
She was of the Roman Catholic faith.
Her husband, Bernard T. Martin, whom she married on June 19, 1918, died
in 1954.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret E. Davis of Johnstown; three
sisters, Marion Van Duesen and Florence Clairmont, both of Amsterdam, and
Catherine Golding, of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
nieces and nephews also survive.
Mrs. Martin was predeceased by a son, James Martin, and a daughter,
Dorothy L. Hurley.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Riley Mortuary Inc., 110
Division St., Amsterdam, with the Rev. James Gulley, officiating.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Fort Johnson.
Calling hours are 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.

John Favorita Sr.
John V. Favorita Sr., 84, of 315 Tree Haven Blvd., Hendersonville, N.C.,
died Thursday at Pardee Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
He was a native of Brooklyn and a prior resident of Garden City, Long
Island, and had lived in Henderson County for the last 15 years.
He was married to Josephine Favorita, who died in 1996.
Mr. Favorita was a retired federal employee and a member of Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II and Korea; a member
of the Air Force Association, and a member of the Marconi Lodge.
He is survived by his son, John V. Favorita Jr. of Canton, Ill.; three
grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at Immaculate Conception
Catholic Church by Father Alfonso D. Pagliara.
Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the Western Carolina State Veterans
Cemetery in Black Mountain, N.C.
Calling hours were Sunday at the Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Home,
Hendersonville, N.C., with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.

Leonina Cochi
Leonina Cochi, 99, of the St. Johnsville Nursing Home, formerly of 88
E. Main St., St. Johnsville, died Saturday at the nursing home.
She was born May 29, 1897, in Maenza, Italy, the daughter of Guy and
Louisa Forcincila. She was educated in her native land, and moved to the
St. Johnsville area in 1913.
She married Carlo Cochi on Sept. 2, 1917, in St. Johnsville. He died
in June 1940.
For more than 30 years, Mrs. Cochi was owner and operator of Cochi's
Gas and Grocery Store in St. Johnsville
Mrs. Cochi was a member of St. Patrick's Church and its Rosary Society.
She was also a member of St. Johnsville Senior Citizens.
Survivors include two sons, Oscar Cochi of Rochester and Carlo Cochi
of New Hartford; a daughter, Laura Fontana of St. Johnsville; 11 grandchildren,
seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by a grandson, Robbie Cochi.
Funeral services are 8:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral
Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, and at 9:15 a.m. from St. Patrick's
Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev.
Pascal Iannotti, pastor.
Burial will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery in the spring.

William Fennhahn
William P. Fennhahn, 73, of Amsterdam, died Sunday morning at home following
a long illness.
Born in Manheim, Germany, Jan. 31, 1924, he was the son of Wilhelm and
Anna Hessman Fennhahn.
Mr. Fennhahn was educated in Hillsdale, Columbia County, and graduated
from the State University of New York at Oswego with a bachelor of science
degree.
He was employed as a teacher in the Amsterdam School District for 14
years at the Theodore Roosevelt Junior High School and for 15 years with
the St. Johnsville School District.
Mr. Fennhahn was an army Veteran of World War II, and served as a Platoon
Sergeant with the 5th Ranger Batallion. He participated in the Normandy
Invasion and was twice the recipient of a Purple Heart Medal. He was also
awarded the Bronze and Silver Star medals.
He was a member of the John J. Wyszomirski American Legion Post 701,
secretary of the Amsterdam Bowling Association, a member of the Amsterdam
Bowling Hall of Fame, and the Amsterdam Dart League.
Mr. Fennhahn played professional baseball with the New York Giants organization.
He married Theresa E. Gonyea in 1950.
Along with his wife, survivors include two sons, Michael Fennhahn and
Thomas Fennhahn, both of Amsterdam; four daughters, Patricia Dunn of Canal
Fulton, Ohio, Kathleen Penrosa of St. Cloud, Fla., Mary Lou Brooker of
Amsterdam and Roseanne Santana of Bath; a brother, Arthur Fennhahn of Rock
Tavern; a sister, Gene Weid of Stuyvesant; and 10 grandchildren.
Mr. Fennhahn was predeceased by a son, Joseph Fennhahn.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Riley Mortuary Inc.,
110 Division Street, Amsterdam, with the Rev. James Gulley officiating.
Spring interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill.

Paul Velicky
Paul V. Velicky, 90, formerly of Blanchard Road, Johnstown, died Sunday
at the Montgomery Meadows Infirmary.
Born and educated in Johnstown, Mr. Velicky was a lifelong area resident.
An Army Veteran of World War II, he served in Europe from October 1943
to November 1945.
Mr. Velicky retired in 1971 from the Twin City Leather Company of Gloversville,
where he was employed as a slocum staker. Later, he worked part time at
several area leather companies until 1984.
He was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union
and a former member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2077 in Gloversville
and the Pine Tree Rifle Club.
His wife, Marion Manzer Velicky, whom he married in 1927, died July
9, 1990.
Survivors include a son, Paul A. Velicky of Johnstown; a brother, George
Velicky of Johnstown; a sister, Mary Gunsel of Schenectady; and four grandchildren.
Services will be private. There will be no public calling hours.
Spring burial will take place in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Genevieve "Jean" H. Serylo
Mrs. Genevieve H. Serylo, 83, formerly of 19 Milton Ave., Amsterdam,
died Monday morning at the Mount Loretto Nursing Home.
Born May 21, 1913 in Dynow, Poland, she was the daughter of Stanislaus
and Veronica Sikorowicz Decowski. She came to Amsterdam in 1923 and resided
here since.
She was employed by the former Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Co., M. Brier
& Sons and lastly by Consolidated Novelty Co. before retiring.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church. She was also a member of
St. John's Ladies Bowling League and the Mount Loretto Ladies Auxiliary.
She married William J. Serylo on May 27, 1933. He died Jan. 8, 1987.
Survivors include three daughters, Winifred "Billie" Gallagher of Perth
and Lakeland, Fla., Christine Califano of Naperville, Ill., and Veronica
"Ronnie" Urba of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren;
one niece and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Jendrzejczak
Funeral Home, 200 Church St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at
9 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Harriet E. Crews
Mrs. Harriet E. Crews, 59, of Crews Drive, Fort Plain,died Sunday at
Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Born Oct. 24, 1937 in Lexington, she was the daughter of Oscar Hogan
and Hattie VanValkenburgh. She was a 1956 graduate of Fort Plain High School.
Mrs. Crews was employed by Beech-Nut Co. in the Gum Department for 10
years. She was also a homemaker.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Freysbush and a member
of the Ladies Aid Society of the church.
She married Roger R. Crews Sr. on Sept. 28, 1957.
Mrs. Crews was predeceased by a son, Roger R. (Fred) Crews Jr. on Nov.
22, 1991.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her mother, Hattie Hogan
of Fort Plain; three daughters, Brenda Dawson of Minden; Tammy Konik of
Manheim; Ellen Riddle of Fordsbush; three brothers, George Hogan and Richard
Hogan Sr., both of Fort Plain and Charlie Hogan of Canajoharie; five sisters,
Donna Bunker of Fort Plain; Diane Hogan of Canajoharie, Doris Handy of
Nelliston, Ruth Triumpho and Elsie Buccalo, both of Canajoharie; eight
grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Gray-Houghtaling
& Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain, with the Rev. Kenneth
Dingman, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, Fort Plain, officiating.

Mildred Marler
Mildred P. Marler, 73, of Trackside Ill, Johnstown, died Saturday at
Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a brief illness.
Born March 22, 1923 in Ossining, she was the daughter of Charles Henry
and Hermina Tietzen Pape. She resided in the Ossining area most of her
life, and lived in Bleecker from 1976 until moving to Johnstown in 1993.
She was a graduate of Ossining High School.
Mrs. Marler was employed as a bank teller with the Bank for Savings,
Ossining, and for many years worked on the family-owned and operated Pape
Dairy Farm in Ossining.
She was past matron of Callabergh Chapter Order of the Eastern Star
No. 424 in Ossining and a member of First Baptist Church of Ossining.
She married William R. Marler on Oct. 31, 1942. He died Dec. 11, 1993.
Survivors include two sons, William R. Marler Jr. of Manchester, Conn.,
and Jeffrey L. Marler of Caroga Lake; a sister, Evelyn James of New London,
N.H.; a brother, Douglas Pape of Bedford Hills, two grandsons, several
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kensico
Cemetery, Valhalla, where burial will take place.

Gladys Martin
In Monday's obituary for Gladys M. Martin, it should have read she was
the daughter of Lyle and Lillian Waite Burtt.
Robert "Beetles" Bielawa
Robert A. Bielawa, 67, formerly of Main Street, Fort Johnson, died Monday
morning at his home at the High Rise Apartments.
Born March 7, 1929 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Walenty and Mary
Szczygiel Bielawa, he was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School and
attended the State University of New York at Farmingdale. For more than
30 years, Mr. Bielawa was employed as a welder for the General Electric
Co. in Schenectady, retiring in 1985 due to disability.
During the Korean Conflict, he served with the U.S. Air Force.
He was a member and past commander of the John J. Wyszomirski Post 701
American Legion, The Irish American Club and the G.E. Quarter Century Club.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.
He married the former Margaret M. Clary on Aug. 26, 1956.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Mary Beth
Knowles and Diane Bielawa, both of Rochester; two sons, Robert A. and David
L. Bielawa, both of Amsterdam; two sisters, Lottie Slottka of Fort Johnson
and Clara Janas of Schenectady; a brother, Roman "Ron" Bielawa of Stratford,
Conn.; three grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Rossi
Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at
9:15 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Interment is in St. John's Cemetery,
with military honors.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where
the American Legion Post 701 will conduct a service at 7:30 p.m. for their
late past commander.
Ernest Kosinski
Ernest A. Kosinski, 76, of Myers Court, Colonie, died Sunday at St.
Peter's Hospital in Albany.
Mr. Kosinski was born in Schenectady and had lived in Colonie for many
years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II.
He had been employed as an auto repairman at the former Capital Buick in
Albany.
He was a member of the H B Kuhn Senior Citizens and had been a member
of the Colonie Elks Lodge No. 2192.
Mr. Kosinski was the widower of the late Eleanor Washburn Kisinski.
He is survived by a sister, Esther Aspirion of Albany and several nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:15 a.m. Thursday from the Reilly
& Son Funeral Home, 1200 Central Ave., Colonie, and at 9 a.m. at the
Church of St. Clare, 1947 Central Ave., Colonie. Interment will be in Our
Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mary Rose Oare
Mary Rise Oare, 91, of 10 1/2 James St., Gloversville, died Monday at
Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a short illness.
Born July 28, 1905 in Canastota, she was the daughter of Michael and
Bridgette Bush Pitchanau. She resided in Gloversville most of her life.
Mrs. Oare was employed as a glove worker with the Elwood Andrist Glove
Co., and also with Aris Glove Co., both of Gloversville.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Oare was a former member of Gloversville Ladies of the Moose.
She married Robert Oare in December, 1954. He died June 25, 1989.
Survivors include two sons, Robert H. Morey and Harold John Morey, both
of Gloversville; two stepsons, Robert Oare Jr. of Hagaman, and Gerald Oare
of Gloversville; a stepdaughter, Katherine Kucel of Meco; a brother, John
Pitchanau of Vestal, a sister, Marguerite Leibl of Gloversville; and many
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Walrath
& Bushouer Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. Spring
burial will be at Broadalbin Union Rural Cemetery in Broadalbin.
