Born in Fort Johnson, she was the daughter of Renni and Jenny Gage.
She was a lifelong resident and attended local schools. Mrs. Paquin was
first employed for the Navy Depot in Scotia during World War II.
Mrs. Paquin and her husband opened Paquin's Grocery Store in 1962, where
she worked until becoming ill.
She was a seasonal recreational aid for the Fort Johnson Youth Commission.
Mrs. Paquin was also a member of the former Methodist Church in Fort Johnson.
She married Marcele Paquin on May 7, 1948. He died on Jan. 14, 1975.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia A. Kelly of Scotch Bush; her
companion, Patrick Ranali; a son, Dennis Paquin of Schenectady; three grandchildren,
one great-granddaughter and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First
Reformed Church, corner of Arch and Center streets, Amsterdam, with the
Rev. Scott L. Crane officiating. Interment will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery,
Tribes Hill in the spring.
There will be no calling hours.

Sabrina Darrach
March 6, 1997
Born April 27, 1969 in Gloversville, she was the daughter of John and
Joyce Sweet Mento. She was educated in Canajoharie schools and lived most
of her life in the St. Johnsville area.
She married Timothy Darrach on Aug. 12, 1995, in Canajoharie.
Mrs. Darrach was lastly employed as a home health aid for Community
Health Center in Johnstown. She also worked at one time for the Edward
L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Darrach was of the Catholic faith.
In addition to her husband and parents. survivors include her grandmother,
Lucille Fontaine of Utica; her grandfather, Joseph Mento of Canajoharie;
two sons, Darren Kretser of St. Johnsville and Andrew Kretser of Canajoharie;
two daughters, Danyell and Stephanie Darrach, both of St. Johnsville; a
brother, Rusty Mento of Fort Plain; a sister, Tammy Jump of St. Johnsville;
and several nieces, nephews and cousins and a father-in-law, Nelson Darrach
Jr. of Ephratah.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Smith-Woody
and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, with the Rev. Mark
Lata, pastor of Fort Plain Assembly of God Church, officiating. Cremation
will take place at the Leatherstocking Crematory in Cherry Valley.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Herman Brower
March 6, 1997
Born May 9, 1907 in Eden, he was the son of the late Herman and Florence
Brower. He was educated in Whitesboro schools and lived most of his life
in the St. Johnsville area.
Mr. Brower was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, enlisting on
Nov. 27, 1942 and honorably discharged with the rank of Private First Class
on Oct. 9, 1945.
For 25 years, until his retirement, in 1973 he was employed at Remington
Arms in Ilion.
Mr. Browers was of the Protestant faith.
He married Ethel Gray on June 21, 1941 in Canajoharie.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Sandra Kerzic
of St. Johnsville; a brother, Robert (Fred) Brower of St. Johnsville; a
grandson, a great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Smith-Woody
and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, with the Rev. Michael
Yezierski, pastor of St. Johnsville United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in West St. Johnsville cemetery in the spring.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Clyde Oberist
March 4, 1997
A lifelong resident of Amsterdam, Mr. Oberist moved to Millersville,
Md. in October of 1996 to be closer to his daughter.
Born Aug. 11, 1909 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Peter and Louvica
Oberist.
He was employed for 46 years for Mohasco Industries. His position when
he retired was general foreman.
Mr. Oberist served as an Elder, Deacon and Sunday School superintendent
at the First Reformed Church of Amsterdam (was a 50-year member); Masonic
member for 50 years; member of the Welcome Lodge No. 829; member of the
Holy Cross Commandery No. 51; member of No. 81 R.A.M.; member of the Oriental
Temple of the Shrine and the Shrine Club of Amsterdam.
He married the former Elizabeth Armstrong on Gloversville on Jan. 25,
1947.
In addition to his wife survivors include two daughters, Susan Gallanther
of Denver, Co., and Judith Rittman of Millersville, Md.; three grandchildren,
two sisters, Martha Oberist of Amsterdam and Reba Marcucci also of Amsterdam;
and several nieces and one nephew.
A memorial service will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's
Hospital for Crippled Children, Unit No. 516, Carew Street, Springfield,
Mass., 01104 or to the charity of one's choice.

Mary Kennah
March 5, 1997
Born in Manhattan, Mrs. Kennah lived most of her life in the Capital
District.
For 15 years, she was a dietary aide at the Kingsway Arms Nursing Home
before retiring in 1991.
She was a longtime communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church.
Survivors include a son, Walter P. Mansfield Jr. of Colonie; two daughters,
Victoria A. Sinkora of Pattersonville and Nancy S. Mach of Colonie; her
mother, Kathleen Streeter of Scotia; a brother, Thomas M. Smith of Scotia;
and a grandson.
A service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Griswold Funeral
Home, 1867 State St. Burial will be private.
Calling hours will be after 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or
Ellis Hospital Oncology Department.
Sophie Reno

Albert Gugenberger
March 6, 1997
Born in Johnstown, Mr. Gugenberger was educated in Gloversville and
was a lifelong area resident.
During World War I, he served with the Navy in the South Pacific and
later during World War II in the Philippines.
For more than 30 years, he was a roofer and sheetmetal worker for Gugenberger
Inc. Later, for 10 years, he worked in the maintenance department for Beech-Nut,
retiring in 1965.
Mr. Gugenberger was a former member of St. Francis de Sales Church.
He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
His wife, Margaret Lieberman Gugenberger, died in 1960.
Survivors include a son, Albert R. Gugenberger of Gloversville; 10 grandchildren;
23 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hollenbeck Funeral
Home 4 Second Ave. Spring burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. today and 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral
home.

Robert Hohs
Robert G. Hohs, 68, formerly of Amsterdam, died Thursday at Thompson
Hospital in Canandaigua.
Born in Amsterdam March 13, 1928, Mr. Hohs was the son of Raymond and
Ruth Goodman Hohs.
He was a graduate of Amsterdam High School.
Mr. Hohs served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-55, serving on the SEAL's
underwater demolition team.
After the service, he was employed as a product control specialist for
the Burroughs Corp. in Rochester for 21 years, retiring in 1988.
Mr. Hohs was a member of the Artisan Lodge 84, Free & Accepted Masons.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, June C. Hohs, whom he married
in 1954.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Pamela Peck of
Canadaigua; a son-in-law, John Peck, also of Canandaigua; two sisters,
Islay Townsend of Johnstown, and Adura Mihan of Baldwin; and four nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the First United
Methodist Church of located at 108 N. Main St.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canadaigua, at the convenience
of the family.

or the Canandaigua Emergency Squad at P.O. Box 385, Canandaigua, 14424.

James Tesiero
James Thomas Tesiero of Richmond, Va., former owner of Carol Home Furnishings,
died Friday.
Survivors include his wife, Anne W. Tesiero of Richmond; a daughter,
Carol Anne Tesiero of Richmond; a sister, Doris T. Cowsert of Worcester,
Mass.; two brothers, LeRoy A. Tesiero and Donald E. Tesiero, both of Amsterdam.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Woody Funeral
Home, 1771 Parham Road, Richmond, Va.
Services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Entombment will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Anna Niemietz
Anna Minna Klee Niemietz, 98, formerly of Wilson Avenue, and Scotch
Church, Pattersonville, died Saturday at the Wilkinson Residential Health
Care Facility in Amsterdam. She had previously resided at the New Amsterdam
High Rise and the Park Hill Adult Home.
Born June 30, 1898 in Germany, Mrs. Niemietz came to this country at
the age of 12 and settled in Schenectady. She and her husband were engaged
in farming for many years in the Scotch church area. She was also employed
as a winder at Mohawk Carpet Mills in Amsterdam for many years.
Mrs. Niemietz was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Amsterdam.
She married Albert Niemietz in 1919. He died Aug. 13, 1976. She was
also predeceased by her daughter, Alice Niemietz Flansburgh.
Survivors include two sons, H. Ralph Niemietz of Amsterdam and Charles
A. Niemietz of Lehigh Acres, Fla. and Watervliet; six grandchildren; and
seven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted in the spring at Van Vechten Cemetery
in Scotch Church.
There will be no calling hours.

Susan Berger
Susan Mae Berger, 50, of Gloversville, died Saturday evening at Nathan
Littauer Hospital.
Born Dec. 14, 1946 in Port Chester, she was the daughter of Elwood and
Evelyn Polcek.
Mrs. Berger was a 1964 graduate of Rye Neck High School. She also received
a degree from Geneseo State College and later attended the Manhattan Medical
Attends School.
For several years she was employed at the hematology department of New
Rochelle Hospital and later by the Wanpole Research and Diagnostic Center
in Port Chester. She was presently employed as a teachers aide at Gloversville
High School.
Mrs. Berger was a member of the Knesseth Israel Synagogue and was past
president of the Board of Directors. She was the masghiach for the synagogue
and was a Hebrew school teacher.
She was a member of the Jewish Community Center, the Gloversville Chapter
of Hadassah, the Gloversville Parent Teacher Association, past president
of the Boulevard School PTA, a former Girl Scout and Brownie leader, and
served on the Fulton County Big Brothers/Big Sisters Board of Directors.
She married David Berger in 1968.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Seth Eric Berger
of Hilton Head, S.C.; a daughter, Alexis Caren Berger of Gloversville;
a brother, Marc Polcek of Bedford Hills, and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at the Knesseth
Israel Synagogue, with Monte and Anna Sugerman officiating.
Arrangements are by the Hollenbeck Funeral Home Inc., 4 Second Ave.,
Gloversville.
Mary Attendorn
Mrs. Mary Breyo Attendorn, 82, of 12th Street, Schenectady, died Sunday
at Ellis Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Galeton, Pa., Mrs. Attendorn had lived in this area since 1931.
She was a microfilm developer for more than 10 years, retiring from
the Financial Computer Center in 1979.
Mrs. Attendorn was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
Her husband of 32 years, Charles J. Attendorn, died in 1990.
Survivors include three sisters, Ann Hughes of Pattersonville, Sophie
Bell of Saratoga Springs and Elizabeth Liska of Southington, Conn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bond Funeral
Home, Broadway and Guilderland Avenue, followed by a Mass of Christian
Burial at 10:30 at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will take place
in the spring in Viewland Cemetery, Rotterdam.
A calling hour will precede the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Church or
to the Second Reformed Church of Rotterdam.
Teresa Ortung
Mrs. Teresa M. Ortung, 59, of 506 S. William St., Johnstown, died Saturday
at home.
Mrs. Ortung was born in Fitchburg, Mass., and graduated from high school
there. She lived in Poughkeepsie from 1958 to 1996, when she came to Johnstown
to reside with her son.
Mrs. Ortung was employed for 18 years as a supervisor for Byrne's Message
Bureau in Poughkeepsie until her retirement in 1996.
Survivors include a son, Thomas E. Ortung of Johnstown; a sister, Antoinette
M. Reid of Lunenburg, Mass., and two grandchildren.
Services will be private. There will be no calling hours.

Herbert Neverman
Herbert E. Neverman, 93, of Guilderland, died Saturday at the Ellis
Center for Long Term Care in Schenectady.
Mr. Neverman was born in Schenectady. He was employed by Alex Montanarelli
in Scotia as a service attendant until he retired in 1980.
Survivors include three nephews, Herbert Dudley of Edinburg and Harold
Gilch and Roy Gilch, both of Guilderland.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Bond Funeral
Home, Broadway and Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady. Burial will be in Vale
Cemetery, Schenectady.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Florence Chase
Mrs. Florence Kennedy Chase, 93, of East Main Street, Cobleskill, died
Sunday at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County after a long illness.
Mrs. Chase was a lifelong Cobleskill resident and a graduate of Cobleskill
High School and the Oneonta Normal School. She did graduate work in music
at New York University.
Mrs. Chase taught elementary school in Cobleskill, Endicott and Amsterdam
until her retirement in 1942 and was also a private instructor in voice
and piano.
For many years, she was a soloist and organist for the Zion Lutheran
Church and many area organizations, as well as at many local concerts.
Mrs. Chase was a 70-year member and a past matron of Rising Star Chapter
295, Order of the Eastern Star, and a past district deputy grand matron
of the E.O.S. She was a member of the Century Club and the Capt. Christian
Brown Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
A member of the Schoharie County Historical Society, she researched,
wrote and published numerous papers on local history.
Mrs. Chase was a lifelong member of the Zion Lutheran Church.
She married H. Irving Chase on Aug. 2, 1930.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Jeanette Fagone
of Arlington, Mass.; two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the at the
Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the spring in Cobleskill Rural
Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Robert A. Guffin
Funeral Home, 1 Chapel St.

Alice Hunt
Mrs. Alice McGivern Hunt, 85, of James Street, Green Island, died Saturday
at the Hallmark Nursing Home in Troy.
Mrs. Hunt was born in Green Island and lived there all her life.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a member of its Altar
Rosary Society and the former Mothers Club of St. Joseph's School.
A member and board member of the Green Island Senior Citizens, Mrs.
Hunt also served as the group's treasurer, assistant treasurer and historian.
She also was a member of the former auxiliary of the Troy Typographical
Union.
She was married to Joseph Q. Hunt until his death.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph J. Hunt of Wynantskill and Frank
J. Hunt of Canajoharie; a sister, Ida Rohloff of Green Island; five grandchildren;
and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the McNulty
Funeral Home, 147 Hudson Ave., and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Waterford.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral
home.
