Mr. Morris A. Hyman, 85, of Sacandaga Park, Northville, died Saturday at his winter residence in Boca Raton, Fla.

Born Jan. 1, 1912 in Troy, he was the son of Louis and Rose Abramson Hyman. He was a graduate of Troy High School and attended New York University.

Mr. Hyman moved to Amsterdam where he owned and operated the former Kings Drug Store. Shortly after opening that store, he opened another in Binghamton. In the early 1950s, he founded Almor Co., which he owned and operated until his retirement 15 years ago.

He was a member of Temple of Israel, Congregation Sons of Israel Synagogue, and the Welcome Lodge No. 829 F&AM, all of Amsterdam. He was a former member of the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Board of Directors and the former Montgomery County Trust Co.

Survivors include his wife, the former Bertha Berkman, whom he married Jan. 21, 1938; two sons, Dr. Larry Hyman of Ellicott City, Md., and Jeffrey Hyman of Denver, Colo.; two brothers, Al Hyman of Amsterdam and Joseph Hyman of Pomona; a sister, Ceil Kay of Palm Beach, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

Calling hours will be 12 to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson-Lindsay Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rabbi Milton Feierstein officiating.

Burial will be in Temple of Israel Cemetery, Cranesville.

Dolly Russo
March 29, 1997

Dolly Russo, 65, of 13 Pleasant View Drive, Gloversville, died Saturday at home after a long illness.

Born Jan. 28, 1932 in New York City, she was the daughter of Joseph and Caroline Fama Mulone. She moved to Gloversville at age 9 and lived there ever since.

Mrs. Russo was a 1949 graduate of Gloversville High School.

She was the founder and operator of five family-owned stores. First in 1972, she founded the Junior Shop, then the Jack and Jill Shop, both in Gloversville. Then she started the Ms. Jill Shop, in two locations in Johnstown and Saratoga Springs. Finally, she operated the Belles 'N Beaues bridal shop on Route 30, starting in 1985. She retired in 1995, but the store remains family-operated.

Mrs. Russo was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville, and the New York State Retail Council

Her husband, William E. Russo, whom she married June 16, 1951, died Feb. 10, 1992.

Survivors include two sons, William J. Russo of Gloversville and Robert A. Russo of Gahanna, Ohio; a daughter, Carolyn Teetz of Irmo, S.C.; two sisters, Nina Peccia, of Flushing, and Mary Sciabarasi of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, Louis Mulone of Gloversville; nine grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Walrath & Bushouer Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville.

A prayer service will be conducted 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home followed at 9:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Thomas J. Boyle, administrator, as celebrant.

Spring burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.

Wayne Osinski
March 28, 1997

W. Wayne Osinski, 50, of Ballston Lake, died Friday as a result of an accident.

Born in Albany, he was the son of Dr. Walter A. and Marie Mantica Osinski of Loudonville, and husband of Mary Jo Martuscello Osinski.

Mr. Osinski was a graduate of Albany Academy Class of 1963. He attended Hartwick College and was a graduate of Parson's College in Iowa, where he received his bachelors degree.

He had worked for Penn Mutual Life Insurance in Albany, Mass., Mutual Life Insurance in Albany, and the Hugh Johnson Brokerage Firm in Albany for a few years. He then started the Way Mar Chemical and Supply Co. in Ballston Lake, which he owned and operated for 20 years.

Mr. Osinski was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, Schenectady Chapter, and was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church in Ushers.

Survivors include his wife and parents as well as two sons, Joel S. Osinski and Ryan P. Osinski, both of Ballston Lake; a daughter, Alyssa M. Osinski of Ballston Lake; a nieces; and several nephews.

Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9 Clifton Park.

Services will be conducted 8:15 a.m. at the funeral home and at 9 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Amsterdam.

Doris Litchfield
March 29, 1997

Mrs. Doris Miller Litchfield, 69, of Grand Street, Amsterdam, died Saturday morning at her home after a long illness.

Born April 19, 1927 in North Adams, Mass., she was the daughter of Robert and Amanda Bombardier Miller. She lived in Amsterdam since 1930.

Mrs. Litchfield was a homemaker.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.

Her husband, Ralph E. Litchfield, whom she married July 27, 1947, died july 13, 1992.

Survivors include five sons, Ralph Litchfield, Gary Litchfield, David Litchfield and Richard Litchfield, all of Amsterdam, and Robert Litchfield of Boston; four daughters, Joan Squires of Texas, and Gayle DeMatteo, Elizabeth Leonard and Rebecca Litchfield, all of Amsterdam; two sisters, Eleanor Landry and Roberta Kaczor of Amsterdam; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Betz Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.

Services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Gulley officiating.

Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Contributions may be made in her memory to Hospice of Amsterdam or the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps., care of the funeral home.
 

Martha Cordone
March 31, 1997

Martha Cordone, 79, of Mayfield, died at her home Monday morning. 

Born Feb. 3, 1918, in Gloversville, she was the daughter of Albert and Adelia Denmark Rocklin. She was educated in local schools and moved to Mayfield in 1958.

Mrs. Cordone held various jobs in the local leather industry.

She married Paul R. Cordone in 1944.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Lynn Kaiser of Amsterdam; a stepdaughter, Barbara Ann Albanese of Clifton Park; and a stepson, Paul R. Cordone Jr. of Gloversville; a sister, Lorena Kratky of Venice, Fla.; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two nieces.

A prayer service will be conducted at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home Inc., Second Avenue, Gloversville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville. Intombment will take place in the family mausoleum in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.

Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Laura Bower
March 29, 1997

Laura Bower, 87, formerly of Broadalbin, died Saturday in Tallahassee, Fla.

Born Nov. 26, 1909 in Union Mills, she was the daughter of Louis and Carie Luthye Ballweber and was a graduate of Broadalbin High School. She later graduated from the Oneonta Teacher's Training Class.

Mrs. Bower taught school in Broadalbin and Perth, and later taught first grade at Boulevard School in Gloversville for more than 40 years, retiring in the late 1960s.

She was active in local and county Republican Clubs. Mrs. Bower was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Broadalbin and served as matron.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Broadalbin.

She married John J. Bower on Oct. 30, 1931. He died March 22, 1991.

Survivors include a son, Phil Bower of Tallahassee; a brother, Louis Ballweber of Mayfield; a sister, Rebecca Gorthy of Glens Falls; three grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services were conducted in Tallahassee. Burial will take place at the Broadalbin Cemetery at a later date. A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced at the First Presbyterian Church in Broadalbin.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Robert Giaquinto
March 31, 1997

Robert A. Giaquinto, 68, of The Mall, Amsterdam, died Monday at Saratoga hospital after a brief illness.

Born July 19, 1928 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Peter and Theresa Audi Giaquinto. He was a 1945 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School, and a lifelong city resident.

Mr. Giaquinto was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was employed as a truck driver with the Boss-Linco Trucking Firm for many years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Teamster's Union Local 279 of Albany.

He was also a member of the South Side Veterans Association, and the Armory Grill and Port Jackson Bocce leagues.

He married Rosalie Natale on Nov. 9, 1952. 

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Peter Giaquinto of Ballston Spa; a daughter, Donna Rose Krawczyk of Ballston Spa; three sisters, Olympia Vottis of Schenectady, Lena Scarofile and Celia Stoddard, both of Amsterdam; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the De Stefano Funeral Home, Route 5S, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery. 

A calling hour will be conducted from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Donna McLain
March 30, 1997

Mrs. Donna L. McLain, 54, of Prospect Avenue, Gloversville, died Sunday at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after a long illness.

Born in Gloversville, Mrs. McLain was a graduate of Gloversville High School and was a lifelong area resident.

Mrs. McLain was a specialist fourth class in the U.S. Army and served in Alabama.

She was a housekeeper at Nathan Littauer Hospital.

Mrs. McLain was a member of St. James Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Christy Alvarez of Amsterdam; a brother, Thomas Townsend of Gloversville, and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the John W. Finocan Funeral Home, 13 Prospect Ave. Burial will take place at a later date in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Francis Baurle Jr.
March 31, 1997

Francis J. Baurle Jr., 68, of Caroga Lake, died Monday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a long illness.

Born and educated in Gloversville, Mr. Baurle was a lifelong area resident.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and served in the Army Reserve.

Mr. Baurle was employed as a truck driver for 35 years at Korkay Co. in Broadalbin and later worked for Coleco Industries in Mayfield, retiring in 1988 due to the onset of illness.

He was an assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 14 and a member of the Caroga Lake Volunteer Fire Department and Adirondack CB Club.

Mr. Baurle was a member of the North Bush United Methodist Church.

He married Alma Wadsworth Baurle on Jan. 10, 1970.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Paula F. Baurle of Caroga Lake, Susan Farhart and Roxanne Watson, both of Mayfield; two stepdaughters, Barbara Williams and Terri Lyon, both of Gloversville; four brothers, Gardner and Allen Baurle, both of Gloversville, Emmett Baurle of Johnstown and Donald Baurle of Queensbury; a sister, Donna Wyllie of Mayfield; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville. Burial will take place at a later date in Wadsworth Cemetery, Hope.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pearl Halvey
March 31, 1997

Pearl Halvey, 88, of Pine Street Extension, Broadalbin, died Monday at the Mariner Hospital in Port Orange, Fla.

Born June 10, 1908 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of David and Emma Johnson. She was educated in Amsterdam schools and was a glovemaker before retiring. She was a former member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and a member of the American Legion Post No. 8690 Auxiliary.

Her husband, James P. Halvey, died in 1957.

Survivors include two sons, James P. Halvey Jr. and Richard W. Halvey, both of Amsterdam; and several grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Riley Mortuary Inc., 110 Division St., Amsterdam, with the Rev. Robert Doxey officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Fort Johnson.

Calling hours are Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary.
