Mrs. Gertrude S. Ruck, 80, of Highland Gardens Apartments, Amsterdam,
died Sunday at her home.
Born Sept. 30, 1916 in Amsterdam, she was a daughter of Frank and Gertrude
Brewer Sewfzer. She graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1935,
and was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam. Mrs. Ruck was employed by F.W.
Woolworth Co., formerly of Amsterdam for several years. During World War
II, she worked at General Electric Co., in Schenectady. She was later employed
by Montgomery County Nursing Service for several years.
She was a member of The United Presbyterian Church in Amsterdam.
Mrs. Ruck had been an avid bowler and golfer in the Amsterdam area.
She married Louis Ruck on May 4, 1940. He died Jan. 11, 1977.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Jeri Ruck and Eric Ruck, both of
Gloversville. She was preceded in death by her son, Gary L. Ruck, on Dec.
22, 1985, and her granddaughter, Michelle Ruck, on June 8, 1983.
Private funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of the
family. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam.

Charles Filkins Jr.
Charles Abram Filkins Jr., 65, of Tennessee Avenue, Lynn Haven, Fla.,
died Monday at his home.
Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Filkins lived in Warrensburg before moving to
Lynn Haven.
He worked for the Shenendehowa Central School District in Clifton Park
before retiring.
Mr. Filkins was a Methodist.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Ruth A. Filkins; two sons, Walter
J. Holloway of Panama City, Fla., and Frank Holloway of Mechanicville;
three daughters, Cheryl Parker and Gail Brooks, both of Panama City, and
Kathleen Epting of Fultonville; his father, Charles Abrams Filkins Sr.
of Round Lake; three brothers, Herbert Filkins of Gloversville, Douglas
Filkins of Schenectady and Robert Filkins of Round Lake; two sisters, Eunice
Scheff of Round Lake and Barbara Woodcock of Argyle; 13 grandchildren and
five great-grandchildren.

Clarence Glindmyer
Clarence Glindmyer, 74, of Erie Street, Rotterdam Junction, died Saturday
at Doctors Hospital in Sarasota, Fla., after a short illness.
Born in Charlton, Mr. Glindmyer lived in the Schenectady area since
1971.
During World War II, he served with the U.S. Coast Guard.
Mr. Glindmyer was a foreman for the General Electric Co. in Schenectady
for about 14 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a member and a past chief of the Rotterdam Junction Volunteer
Fire Department.
Mr. Glindmyer was also a member of the Rotterdam Junction United Methodist
Church.
His wife, Doris Glindmyer, died in 1988.
Survivors include a son, Glen Glindmyer of Rotterdam Junction; five
daughters, Gail Beall of Austin, Texas, Donna Mikus of Esperance, Peggy
Proulx of Florida, Leslie Glindmyer of Abiline, Texas, and Shawn Glindmyer
of Rotterdam Junction; a brother, Mitchell Glindmyer of Williston, Vt.;
and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Griswold Funeral
Home, 1867 State St. Burial will be in Woestina Cemetery at a later date.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mildred Russo
Mildred Dwyer Russo, 80, formerly of Gloversville, died Saturday at
Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown after a long illness.
Born June 1, 1916 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Francis and
Amille Styker Dwyer. She was educated in local schools.
Mrs. Russo worked as a glove worker for Bachner Glove Co., and other
glove manufacturers.
She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gloversville and a
member of the Ancient Order of Foresters.
She was married to the late Matthew Russo.
Mrs. Russo is survived by three brothers, Melvin Dwyer of Esperance,
Charles Dwyer of Johnstown and Paul Dwyer of Gloversville; three sisters,
Genevieve Pileggi of New Smyra Beach, Fla., Marion Hanson of Tribes Hill
and Elizabeth Tyrell of Gloversville and several nieces and nephews.
A private funeral service will be conducted at the convenience of the
family. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Johnstown.

Linda Giovannone
Linda Giovannone, 89, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Sunday at National
Health Care in Port Charlotte, Fla., after a long illness.
Born May 21, 1907 in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was the daughter of C. Augusto
DePaolis and Rosangela Verdoni Fogliettas. She was a Canajoharie resident
for 60 years before moving to Florida in 1985.
She was employed by Arkell and Smith for 30 years, and then in the payroll
department of Beech-Nut Inc. for nine years, retiring in 1969.
Mrs. Giovannone was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of America
and the Court Catherine Esther 1264.
Her husband, Anselmo Giovannone, died in 1980.
Survivors include two daughters, Esther Canja of Port Charlotte, Fla.,
and Rosa Lee Bain of DePew; a brother, Bessell Evangelisti of Altamont;
eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Lenz
& Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie, followed by a Mass
of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church
in Canajoharie. Burial will take place at a later date in Sts. Peter and
Paul Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m Thursday at the funeral home, where
the Catholic Daughters will conduct a service at 7 p.m.

Agnes May Surnear
Mrs. Agnes May Surnear, 70, of Bunker Hill Road, Mayfield, died Sunday
at her home.
Born Dec. 29, 1926 in Richfield Springs, she was the daughter of Bolesas
Stefanski and Frances Kurkowski. She was educated in the Richfield Springs
schools.
Mrs. Surnear was employed at the former Canajoharie Manufacturing Co.
and also at Coleco Industries in Amsterdam.
She lived in Mayfield since 1973 and previously lived in Canajoharie.
She married William H. Surnear Sr. on April 18, 1943 in Canajoharie.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, William H. Surnear
Jr. of Amsterdam; a niece, a nephew and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the Houghtaling
& Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie. The Rev. Kenneth
Dingman will officiate. Burial will be in Canajoharie Falls Cemetery.

Alfred Lindley
Alfred D. Lindley, 84, of Darrow Road, Currytown, died Monday at Amsterdam
Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Born March 8, 1913 in Darien, he was the son of George Lindley and Jessie
Graham. He graduated from Alexander High School in Genesee County in 1931.
Mr. Lindley was a dairy farmer in Darien for many years, retiring in
1972. He lived in Currytown since 1977.
Mr. Lindley was a member of the North Darien Baptist Church. He attended
the Currytown Reformed Church.
He married Evelyn Becker Simpson on Dec. 10, 1977.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a sister, Ellen Smithgall
of Fairfield, Calif., two nieces and two nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Maple
Hill Cemetery in Darien. The Rev. James Foster will officiate.
There are no calling hours.

Leon Dingman
Leon C. Dingman, 49, of Hamilton Street, Albany, died Monday at his
home after being stricken.
Born March 5, 1948 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Silas L. Dingman
and Thelma Smith. He was educated in the Fort Plain schools.
Mr. Dingman was employed at Albany Recycling.
He lived in Albany for 18 months. He previously lived in Sharon Springs.
Mr. Dingman was of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include five sons, Mark Bailey of Dolgeville; Daniel Dingman,
Shane Singman, and Timothy Dingman, all of Canajoharie; and Leon C. Dingman
Jr., of Elmira; two daughters, Neesha Bateholds of Nelliston and Valine
Dingman of Canajoharie; a brother, Larry Dingman of Fort Plain; a sister,
Diane Tompkins of St. Johnsville; five grandchildren and several nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.
There are no calling hours. Burial is private.

Christine Parente
Mrs. Christine LaVigne Parente, 89, of William Street, Mechanicville,
died Monday at the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs after
a long illness.
Born in Mechanicville, Mrs. Parente was a lifelong area resident.
She was a seamstress at the Lions of Troy Shirt Manufacturing Co. for
many years, retiring in 1972.
Mrs. Parente was a member of the Mechanicville Area Senior Citizens
and a former member of the Senior Dante Club.
She was a communicant of Assumption-St. Paul Church and a life member
of its Rosary Altar Society and Sacred Heart Society.
Her husband of 47 years, Dominick Parente, died in 1973.
Survivors include three daughters, Angeline Roy and Mary Baker, both
of Mechanicville, and Catherine Friello of Johnstown; two brothers, Peter
LaVagne of Hollywood, Fla., and Patrick LaVigne of Stillwater; three sisters,
Margaret Gemmiti and Mary Canonica, both of Mechanicville, and Connie Guidarelli
of Schenectady; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Assumption-St.
Paul Church, William Street. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the DeVito-Salvadore
Funeral Home, 39 S. Main St., Mechanicville.

Antoinette Nielsen
Mrs. Antionette D. Nielsen, 82, of Swaggertown Road, Charlton, died
Tuesday at Saratoga Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Duanesburg, Mrs. Nielsen was a lifelong area resident.
She was a member of the Charlton Grange.
Mrs. Nielsen was also a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in
Glenville.
Her husband, Ernest J. Nielsen, died in 1981.
Survivors include a son, Thomas J. Nielsen of Burlington, Mass.; five
sisters, Nancy Tucker of Charlton, Anna Bell of Burnt Hills, Mary DeLuke
of East Hartford, Conn., Margaret Gilday of Saratoga, and Ethel Agresta
of Schenectady; two brothers, Frank DeLuke of Northville and John DeLuke
of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:15 a.m. Friday at the Daly Funeral
Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, and at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate
Conception Church, Route 50, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Burial will take place in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Glenville.

Mary Filkins
Mary Filkins, 88, of Jay Street, Amsterdam, died Thursday afternoon
at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
Born April 22, 1908 in Amsterdam, she was a daughter of Andrew and Sophie
Wolska Gomula. She attended St. Stanislaus School and was a lifelong resident.
For 20 years, she was a setter at the former Bigelow-Sanford Carpet
Co. Later, she worked for Brookshire Shirt Co. for 10 years. She also worked
for other apparel manufacturing firms such as Mohawk Sportswear and White
Stag before retiring.
Mrs. Filkins was a member of St. Stanislaus Church.
She was married to Irvin A. Filkins. He died May 7, 1993.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Filkins of Amsterdam; a sister, Adeline
Rafalik, of Amsterdam; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and
two great-great grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Jendrzejczak
Funeral Home, 200 Church St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at
9 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Raymond Dufel
Raymond F. Dufel, 78, of Parry Boulevard, Tribes Hill, died Thursday
at St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.
Born April 16, 1918 in Tribes Hill, he was the son of Henry and Josephine
Sleasman Dufel. Mr. Dufel was a lifelong resident of Tribes Hill and a
graduate of St. Mary's Institute in Amsterdam.
During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in Australia and the
South Pacific.
After the war, he worked for the New York State Department of Transportation
and later for Adirondack Power and Light Co. He retired in 1980 as a supervisor
after 30 years with the Niagara Mohawk Power Corp.
Mr. Dufel was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church.
He was also a former chief of the Tribes Hill Volunteer Fire Department,
a member of the Iroquois Senior Citizens, the Niagara Mohawk Pension Club
and the Fort Hunter Canal Society.
He married Juanita "Joan" Vernon Dufel on Sept. 1, 1945.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Neal Dufel of Tribes
Hill and Vernon Dufel of Fonda; five daughters, Coral Bowe of Ballston
Spa, Dawn Geddis and Delphine Bramer, both of Hagaman, Linda Yelich of
Malone, and Vivian Kellogg of Amsterdam; two brothers, Earl Dufel of Tribes
Hill and Robert Dufel of Amsterdam; two sisters, Henriette Brownell of
Tribes Hill and Jean Rohde of Paradise, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and a
great-grandchild. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:15 a.m. Saturday at the Betz
Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, and at 9 a.m. at the Sacred
Heart Church, Tribes Hill, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Jean Killeen
Mrs. Jean L. Killeen, 86, of Alexander Road, Galway, died Wednesday
at Saratoga Hospital after a short illness.
Born in North Adams, Mass., Mrs. Killeen was raised in Rotterdam Junction
and resided in Schenectady before moving to Galway in 1979.
In 1982, she won a prize at the New York State Fair for her quilting
entry.
Her husband, Tracy R. Killeen Sr., died in 1992.
Survivors include a son, Tracy Killeen of Galway; a brother, Hollis
Bascom of Dolgeville, and a sister, Pauline Bascom of Ballston Spa.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Woestina
Reformed Cemetery, Rotterdam Junction. Cremation will be in Vale Crematorium,
Schenectady.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Killeen residence
following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.

Richard Mochrie
Richard H. Mochrie, 55, of 40 E. Main St., Nelliston, formerly of Grove
Street, Amsterdam, died Thursday at his home.
Born Oct. 30, 1941 in Amsterdam, he was the son Everett D. and Gloria
Ann Mochrie. He was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School.
Mr. Mochrie served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was employed as a machine operator for 25 years at Longview Fibre,
retiring in 1995 due to illness.
He was of the Catholic faith.
Mr. Mochrie was a member of Post 701 and the AARP.
Survivors include a daughter, Holly-Lynn Mochrie of Amsterdam; two brothers,
John Mochrie of San Antonio, Texas, and Everett Mochrie of Amsterdam; a
sister, Linda Mochrie of Amsterdam; two grandchildren and several nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday at the Betz Funeral
Home Inc. , 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam. Burial will be in Pine Grove
Cemetery, Tribes Hill, at the convenience of the family.
Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday before the services.
