Earl D. Davis, 90, of Robinson Street, Canajoharie, died Tuesday at
Columbia Blake Medical Center, Bradenton, Fla., after a long illness.
Born Dec. 11, 1906 in Herkimer, he was the son of John Davis and Minnie
Baldwin. He was a graduate of Herkimer High School.
Mr. Davis was owner and operator of the Davis Shoe Store in Canajoharie.
He lived in Canajoharie for more than 50 years. He formerly lived in
Herkimer.
Mr. Davis was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Military
Police. He served with the 524 Military Police Batallion in Holland, Belgium
and Germany.
He was a member of St. John's & St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Canajoharie.
He was a member of the VFW Post 3275 of Fort Plain and a member and
past commander of the American Legion Smith Schultz Post 222 of Canajoharie;
member of the Hamilton Lodge No. 79 F&AM of Canajoharie; former president
and member of the Canajoharie Central School District Board of Education
for 10 years; former president and member of the Canajoharie Volunteer
Fire Department and a member of the Exempt Firemen, past president of the
Canajoharie/Palatine Chamber of Commerce; and former member of the Canajoharie
Town Council.
He married his first wife, Edna Gray, on Oct. 24, 1935 in Herkimer.
She died Nov. 26, 1980. He married his second wife, Roberta Bedrosian,
on March 25, 1984.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Ann Harris of
Utica; a son, James Lee Davis of Trenton Falls; two step-sons, Steven Burgess
of Conway, N.H.; and James Burgess of Gilmanton, N.H.; a sister, Lura Maranville
of Ilion; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's
& St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Church Street, Canajoharie, with pastor
John Omans officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Herkimer.
There will be no calling hours.
The VFW Memorial Squad will conduct graveside military honors.

Anna Stoutner
Mrs. Anna Grimm Stoutner, 89, of Gloversville, died Sunday at her home.
Born and educated in Gloversville, Mrs. Stoutner was a lifelong city
resident. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Stoutner was a communicant of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church.
She married Andrew J. Stoutner on June 30, 1934. He died in 1976.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice S. Esse of Rochester and Phyllis
A. Wright of Gloversville; a sister, Lorraine Hale of Gloversville; eight
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at
Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Meals for Senior Citizens in care
of Fulton County Office For The Aging, 19 N. William St., Johnstown, 12095;
or the Lions Club of Gloversville.

Mary Quinn
Miss Mary E. Quinn, 82, formerly of Evelyn Avenue, Amsterdam, died Monday
at Mount Loretto Nursing Home, where she resided since February.
Born Jan. 23, 1915 in Amsterdam,she was the daughter of Bernard Quinn
and Mildred Yell Quinn Sheley.
Miss Quinn was a 1932 graduate of St. Mary's Institute and a 1936 graduate
of The College of St. Rose. She also pursued graduate work at Smith College
School for Social Work and Syracuse University.
She worked for the Montgomery County Department of Public Welfare and
the New York state Department of Social Services until retiring in 1976.
Miss Quinn was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, where she served
as a Eucharistic minister. She also was a member of the church's Rosary
Society and St. Mary's Seniors Group.
She was a member of St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary, the Amsterdam Chapter
of The College of St. Rose Alumni, and the Social Services Retirees Group.
Survivors include a stepsister, Addie Connor of Salem, and several cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at
St. Mary's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson.
Calling hours are from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Riley Mortuary,
110 Division St., Amsterdam.

Barton Luvera
Barton W. Luvera, 47, of Court Street, Fonda, died Monday morning at
St. Mary's Hospital after being stricken while driving on his way to work.
Born in Roslyn, L.I., April 1, 1950, he was the son of William and Florence
Cooke Luvera. He was educated there and moved to Fonda in 1989.
Mr. Luvera was employed as a contractor for Laborers Union Local No.
66 while in Long Island.
Following his move to Foinda, he was a custodian at the Fonda-Fultonville
Central School. For the past year, he was employed at Liberty Enterprises
in Amsterdam.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and a member of the Johnstown Lodge
of the Loyal Order of the Moose. He was a member of Trinity Evengelical
Lutheran Church, Amsterdam.
He married the former Kathleeen Beyer on Nov. 25, 1978.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Laura and
Natalie Luvera, both at home; his mother, Florence Luvera; of Holbrook;
a brother, Robert Luvera of Tomball, Texas; a sister, Margaret Luezze of
Mastick; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Rossi Funeral
Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam, with the Rev. William E. Siiss officiating.
Cremation will be at Vale Crematory in Schenectady.
Calling hours are Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

for his children, in care of the funeral home.
Gary Howland
Gary B. Howland, 50, of 89 W. State St., Gloversville, died Monday at
Nathan Littauer Hospital.
Born May 23, 1946 in Gloversville, he was the son of Clarence W. and
Marion Eglin Howland. Mr. Howland was a lifelong Gloversville resident
and a 1964 graduate of Gloversville High School.
Mr. Howland served in the U.S. Navy in 1965. He served in Vietnam from
December 1966 to July of 1968, receiving the Meritorious Unit Commendation
Ribbon, National Defense Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and
the Vietnam Service Medal.
He was employed as a diesel mechanic from 1969 to 1975 at Byer Trucking
in Guilderland, then he was a service representative for Coca-Cola Co.
for 10 years until 1984. He was a supervisor/manager of King Cole Laundromats
for 12 years until last year, and in warehouse/delivery with Livingstons
Inc., in Gloversville the past year until his death.
Mr. Howland attended the Johnstown Reformed Church. He was a member
of the VFW Post 2077 of Gloversville, Tri-County Vietnam Veterans Association
where he held many offices and was a member of its board of directors.
He was a former Webelos leader with the Boy Scouts.
He married Joan P. Fraker on Dec. 30, 1967.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, William J. Howland
of Gloversville; a daughter, Kristine M. Howland of Gloversville; his sister,
Janet Lusso of Glen; his stepson, Richard Shreeve of Baton Rouge, La.,
one grandson, one aunt and one uncle, and several cousins.
There will be no funeral services. Cremation took place at Parkview
Crematory in Schenectady.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Walrath and Bushour

George Serdinsky
George Serdinsky, 79, of Lighthall Road, Fort Plain, died Monday at
Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown after a short illness.
Born March 12, 1918 in Yonkers, he was the son of Michael and Nellie
Serdinsky. He graduated from Commerce High School in Yonkers.
Mr. Serdinsky was employed at Ingersoll-Rand Co., in New York City and
also New Jersey, retiring in 1981 after 41 years of service.
He lived in Fort Plain since 1981. Mr. Serdinsky previously lived in
the New York area for many years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving
in the U.S. Army.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He was married to Mildred Paprocki. She died June 15, 1965.
Survivors include three sons, James and Robert Serdinsky, both of Fort
Plain, and George Serdinsky of Nyack; and a grandson.
Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematory in Schenectady with
a private burial.
Arrangements are by the Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home.
Janeth Rivenburgh
Mrs. Janeth E. Rivenburgh, 76, of Grosvenor Corners, died Sunday at
Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown after a short illness.
Born in Schenectady, Mrs. Rivenburgh was a 1940 graduate of Sharon Springs
High School.
She was a sales clerk for the Jamesway store in Cobleskill, retiring
in 1981.
Mrs. Rivenburgh was a member of the Grosvenor Corners United Methodist
Church.
Her husband, Louis A. Rivenburgh, died in 1981.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis L. Rivenburgh of Endicott and Paul
L. Rivenburgh of Guilderland; a sister, Joyce Yerdon of Palatine Bridge;
and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Robert
A. Guffin Funeral Home, 1 Chapel St., Cobleskill. Burial will be in Fort
Plin Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.

Ralph Nilsen
Ralph Nilsen, 82, of Extension West Main Street, Johnstown, died Monday
at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.
Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Nilsen lived most of his life in Johnstown, where
he was a 1934 graduate of Johnstown High School. He was also a graduate
of a technical school in Plattsburgh.
Mr. Nilsen was a foreman at the Glen L. Martin Aircraft Co. in Baltimore
from 1939 to 1945. He returned to Johnstown in 1946 and founded the former
Trent and Nilsen and Mill Supply store with George Trentleman. Mr. Nilsen
retired from the business in 1986.
Mr. Nilsen was a Baptist.
He married Edith Elmendorf Nilsen on Oct. 4, 1941.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Deborah N. MacVean
of Johnstown; three sons, Gerald R. Nilsen of Sturdivant, Mo., Ronald J.
Nilsen of Johnstown and H. Gregory Nilsen of Rochester Hills, Mich.; a
brother, Henry Nilsen of Prescott, Ariz.; and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Ehle Funeral
Home, 15 N. William St. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral
home.

Richard DiScioscia
Richard DiScioscia, 58, of Meadow Street, Johnstown, died Monday at
home.
Born in Gloversville, Mr. DiScioscia was educated in Gloversville.
In the late 1950s, he served with the Army Medical Corps in Germany.
Mr. DiScioscia worked for Carville-National Leather Corp. and Karg Brothers.
He also was a roofer.
Survivors include four brothers, Sam DiScioscia of Ohio, Joseph DeScioscia
of Caroga Lake, and Danny and John DiScioscia, both of Gloversville; a
half-brother, Rudy Viola of California; and four sisters, Joanne DiScioscia
of Puerto Rico, and Sophie Ottuso, Jane Sleezer and Jean Farrara, all of
Gloversville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hollenbeck
Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, during which Mr. DiScioscia's
brother, John DiScioscia of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints,
will officiate. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville.
