Dominic A. "Chic" D'Alesandro, 80, of 211 Cleveland Ave., Amsterdam, died Thursday evening at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson, after a long illness.

Born July 1, 1916 in Raven Run, Pa., he was the son of Joseph and Josephine Disabella D'Alesandro.

Mr. D'Alesandro was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. 

Mr. D'Alesandro worked as a foreman for the Department of Public Works for the City of Amsterdam for more than 20 years retiring in 1975.

Mr. D'Alesandro was a Communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Greco D'Alesandro, whom he married Nov. 12, 1944; a son, Dr. Dominic D'Alesandro Jr. of Tybee Island, Ga.; a daughter, Judith Duemler of Perth; a brother, Neil D'Alesandro of Amsterdam; a sister, Frances Magliocca of Amsterdam; three grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church.

Burial will take place in Mount Carmel Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made in "Chic's" memory to the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
 

Raymond White
April 17, 1997

Raymond A. White, 35, of 3613 Edinburgh Drive, Virginia Beach, died Thursday at Virginia Beach General Hospital from surgical complications following a six-year battle with cancer.

Mr. White was born Nov. 27, 1961 in Little Falls, the son of Janet (Flanders) Brown and the late William R. White. He was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School, Herkimer County Community College and Air Crewman school. He lived in Virginia Beach for the past three years and also lived in the St. Johnsville area.

He was married to the former Marianne Reaume on Jan. 5, 1985 in Virginia Beach.

Mr. White was a U.S. Navy veteran who enlisted on May 18, 1982 and was honorably discharged Dec. 17, 1987. For three years, he was an aviation electrician for Grumman Corp. in St. Augustine, Fla.

He was of the Protestant faith.

Mr. White is survived by his wife and three children, Eddie, Ryan, and Jessica Anne White, all at home; a brother, Gary White of San Antonio, Texas, two sisters, Julie Becker of St. Johnsville and Dawn Swarz of Sebring, Fla.; four step-sisters, Janice Marino of Lyons, Colo., Judith Ressler of Stillwater, Minn., Barbara Crump of Williamstown and Elizabeth Jones of St. Johnsville; his in-laws Richard and Mary McCrea of Florida; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and in laws; and a special friend, Matt LaCoppola of St. Johnsville.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, George and Irene Flanders; and his paternal grandparents, Raymond and Florence White.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Robert Deivendorf, pastor of Grace Congregational Church of Christ, will be officiating. Burial will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Raymond A. White Scholarship fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
 

Della Rogers
April 5, 1997

Della Barbara Rogers died April 5 at Ojai Valley Hospital in Ojai, Calif. following a brief illness.

She was born in Amsterdam, the daughter of Caroline and Mark Wojnas.

Mrs. Rogers was a secretary for the Navy Depot in Scotia and a former employee of the Mohawk Carpet Mills, also known as Mohasco, in Amsterdam. She moved to Ojai in 1957.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, John C. Rogers of Ojai; a son, John G. Rogers of Ventura, Calif.; two sisters, Edna and Nell Wojnas of Ojai; and several nieces. 

She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Wojnas and Genevieve DuPont; and a brother, Joseph Wojnas.

The Rosary was recited on April 9 at the Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai, with the Rev. James P. Retzner, OSA, officiating.

Internment was at Ivy lawn Cemetery in Ventura. Arrangements were under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home. 
 

Richard T. Eckert
April 18, 1997

Richard T. Eckert, 56, of Grove Street, died suddenly Friday after being stricken.

Born May 25, 1940 in Buffalo, he was the son of Elmer and Rita Vunk Eckert.

Mr. Eckert moved to Amsterdam at an early age. He was a graduate of St. Mary's Institute class of 1958. He received his bachelor's of science and his master's degrees from Potsdam University.

He was first employed as a teacher at Colonie-Shaker Junior High School and then with the Greater Amsterdam School District. He was later employed with Carpetland as the assistant manager of the Saratoga Springs store.

Mr. Eckert was a member of the Bigelow Weaver's Club for many years and served as secretary.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.

He married the former Mary Morrell Sept. 2, 1962.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael Eckert of Amsterdam; a daughter, Michelle Gardinier of Fort Johnson; his mother, Rita Eckert of Amsterdam; his mother-in-law, Nettie Morrell; four brothers, John Eckert of Liverpool, Tom Eckert of Clifton Park, Mickey Eckert of Northville, and Robert Eckert of Hagaman; a sister, Judy Marrotta of Clifton Park; three grandchildren, Jaymi and Joseph Eckert of Amsterdam, and Rebecca Gardinier of Fort Johnson; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

He was predeceased by a brother, James Eckert.

Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m today at the DeStefano Funeral Home, Route 5S, Amsterdam.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, followed at 10:15 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.

Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Rebecca Wagoner
April 19, 1997

Rebecca "Becky" Wagoner, 35, of 13 Matthew St., Johnstown, died Saturday at Albany Medical Center Hospital after being stricken Friday.

Born April 11, 1962 in Utica, she was the daughter of James and Patricia Mazza Sperbeck. She lived most of her life in Johnstown and was a 1981 graduate of Johnstown High School.

Mrs. Wagoner was employed for the past 15 years at the Johnstown Knitting Mill where she was a supervisor at the time of her death.

She was of the Catholic faith.

Mrs. Wagoner was a Tiger Scout leader of Pack #69 of Johnstown.

Survivors include her husband, George D. Wagoner, whom she married April 26, 1981; two sons, Joseph Wagoner and Jason Wagoner, both of Johnstown; four sisters, Denise Ward of Johnstown, Leah Sperbeck of Rochester, Lucretia Ferry of Mayfield and Melinda Rafuse of Jacksonville, Fla; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Walrath & Bushouer Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville.

A prayer service will be conducted 1 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Francis W. Dunbar, pastor of St. Anthony's Church, Johnstown, officiating.

Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Johnstown.

Esther Smith
April 18, 1997

Mrs. Esther W. Smith, 94, of LaFayette Street, Palatine Bridge, formerly of Stoner Lake, died Friday at the Palatine Bridge Nursing Home after a long illness.

Born Feb. 12, 1903 in Frankfort, she was the daughter of John D. and Leta Ebens Perger Whipple. She was a graduate of Frankfort High School. She had lived in Palatine Bridge for two years. Previously, she had lived at Stoner Lake and Barefoot Bay, Fla.

Mrs. Smith was employed as a legal secretary to various law firms in Utica.

She was of the Protestant Faith.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Ida L. Maginnis Senior Citizen Club of Gloversville. She also was a member of Colonel Marinus Willett, Daughters of the American Revolution of Frankfort. She was a former member of the Eastern Star, Sauquoit.

Alvord B. Smith, whom she married in August 1942, died May 2, 1982.

Survivors include a sister, Thelma Bailey of Gloversville.

There will be no calling hours.

A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Dingman at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Fort Plain Cemetery where burial will follow.

Mary Campbell
April 20, 1997

Mary L. Campbell, 79, of 54 Lincoln Ave., Amsterdam, died Sunday afternoon at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Born Sept. 1, 1917, in Haines Falls, she was the daughter of William H. and Mary Eva Lord Whitaker.

Mrs. Campbell moved from Haines Falls to Amsterdam in 1952, where she had since resided. She was a 1936 graduate of Tannersville High School.

Mrs. Campbell was a homemaker and also assisted her husband in Campbell's Television Repair Service in Amsterdam.

She was a member of Sterling Care of Amsterdam Memorial Hospital, Club 60, WOW, AARP Chapter 2188, Women's Christian Service Circle of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Amsterdam, and was a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital. She was also a member of the Amsterdam United Methodist Church.

She was married May 28, 1937, to Claude W. Campbell Jr., who died Feb. 16, 1987. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Marcella Rush, who died in 1992. Mrs. Campbell is survived by two sons, Gerald Campbell of Haines Falls and Claude W. Campbell of Herkimer; a daughter, Penny Davis of Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral is 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, with the Rev. Susan Crane officiating.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

A church service will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Haines Falls United Methodist Church in Haines Falls. Burial will follow at the Haines Falls Cemetery.

Velma Clemente
April 20, 1997

Velma A. Clemente, 87, of Nathan Littauer Nursing Home, Gloversville, died Sunday at the nursing home after a short illness.

Born Sept. 13, 1909, in Gloversville, she was the daughter of Karol and Justina Riska Antalek.

She lived in Johnstown and Gloversville most of her life.

Mrs. Clemente was educated in Johnstown schools. She was employed as a glove worker for several years, and later assisted her husband with the operation of the former Carmen's Market on South Main Street in Gloversville, until retiring in 1974.

She was a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church in Gloversville.

She married Carmen Clemente Dec. 7, 1959. He died July 2, 1990.

Survivors include one son, Robert A. Waite of Gloversville; one sister, Anna Huptick of Gloversville; a brother, Charles Antalek of Fort Plain; 11 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren; several nieces, and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Ronald E. Waite.

Calling hours are 2:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Walrath & Bushouer Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a prayer service will follow at 1:30 with the Rev. Donald Czelusniak, pastor of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.

Emma Fletcher
April 19, 1997

Emma A. Fletcher, 81, of 1702 State Highway 29, Gloversville, died Saturday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

Born Nov. 6, 1915, in the Town of Northampton, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Anna Proctor King.

She lived in the Route 29 area most of her life.

Mrs. Moore worked at several glove shops including Crescendo Glove Co., Fownes Brothers Glove Co., Premier Glove Co., and Allegro Shoe Company, all of Gloversville; and last worked with the Argotsinger Poultry Farm in Gloversville.

She was a member of the Broadalbin Baptist Church.

She married Harold F. Fletcher May 6, 1938. He died March 31, 1973.

Survivors include four daughters, Loretta A. Baurle of Johnstown, Patricia E. Stoutner of Perth, Glorida J. Cheney and Kathleen Elmore, both of Broadalbin; a son, Howard J. Fletcher of Gloversville; four sisters, Addie Ruberti of Broadalbin, Dorothy Esposito of Gloversville, Naomi Blowers of Buffalo, and Shirley Chipi of Wichita Falls; a brother, Charles Wilson of Northville; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Jeffords Chapel, 85 W. Main St., Broadalbin. A funeral service will be conducted at the Broadalbin Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Matthew Collins officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville.

Thelma Moore
April 20, 1997

Thelma E. Moore, 76, of School Street, Gloversville, died Sunday morning at Nathan Littauer Hospital after being stricken at home.

Born in Mayfield Nov. 3, 1920, she was the daughter of Edward and Addie Frank Zimmerman and was a lifelong area resident. She was a 1940 graduate of Mayfield High School.

Mrs. Moore was involved in the operation of a family dairy farm in the Town of Mayfield as a child. Later, she operated a dairy farm with her husband.

She was a 50-year member of the United Methodist Church in Mayfield.

Mrs. Moore was a member of Mayfield Grange No. 683.

Survivors include her husband, Clyde W. Moore, whom she married June 15, 1946; two sons, Jerry E. Moore and Clyde C. Moore, both of Gloversville; two daughters, Susan Moore of San Antonio, Texas, and Ruth E. Dyer of Las Vegas; two brothers, Raymond Zimmerman and Calvin Zimmerman, both of Gloversville; two sisters, Frances Hollenbeck and Patricia Ford, both of Gloversville; eight grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will are 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 38 W. Main St., Broadalbin, with the Rev. David Newkirk officiating. 

Burial will be in Mayfield Cemetery.

Alexander Ricci
April 19, 1997

Alexander P. Ricci, 81, of 4 N. Water St., Gloversville, died Saturday at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after a short illness.

Born May 5, 1915, in Gloversville, he was the son of Pasquale and Rose Puski Ricci. He lived in Gloversville most of his life.

He was a graduate of Gloversville High School.

Mr. Ricci served in the Army during World War II.

He was employed as assistant manager at the Fultonville Truck Stop for many years.

Mr. Ricci was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Johnstown.

Survivors include four daughters, Roseann Roy of Charlotte, N.C., Donna Roach and Tina Oathour, both of Gloversville, and Christina Marvo of Selkirk; two sons, Joseph A. Ricci of Fort Johnson and Randy Ricci of Gloversville; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian Dean Quackenbush.
